Unfortunate experience here Friday morning. If you're stopping in before work looking for a quick treat, you may want consider somewhere else in the area. I stopped in for 2 doughnuts at 6:45am yesterday morning. It took 10 minutes to get my 2 doughnuts. The staff was slow to come from the back and take my order but still rushed by the time somebody got to me. They doughnuts were chalky and flavorless. But the primary reason for my review is the slow and unhelpful service.

    Interior - very clean!

I love Parlor Doughnuts! I first discovered them many years ago in West Florida and I was super excited to hear they were opening in Houston. I've frequented the Heights location in Houston and that one is great. Today I decided to give the West University location a try. Here's my assessment. I think I ordered the wrong thing. I decided to get a special/seasonal pistachio doughnut and it kinda fell flat. It was very dense, not crunchy in any way which is what I typically love about Parlor, and it was too cold for me. Sure I could have heated it up but I dined in to get the full experience. It was average - not good, not bad. I do need to mention that the ambiance, cleanliness, and welcoming atmosphere of the interior was great. The one thing that really didn't feel great was the parking situation. I came on a Friday around lunch time and the parking lot was completely packed. I literally circled the lot - from Kroger all the way down to Buffalo Speedway (where Buca di Beppo used to be) and not a single spot opened up. So I drove behind the complex with the beautiful view of the many dumpsters, squeezed by a Sysco 18 wheeler that happened to park in the middle of alleyway, and I finally nabbed an open spot, only to find that it's reserved for a business that's not Parlor. I was tempted knowing I would only take 10 minutes to order my doughnut and enjoy it, but alas, I did the right thing and spent another few minutes before I found a different open spot. That was just crazy. How can anyone shop at that Kroger nearby on a routine basis with that much of a parking shortage? So - definitely try Parlor because it's awesome, and I recommend the Heights location. But if West U is closer, check it out but good luck with the parking.

Parlor Doughnuts in Houston was a fun option for morning bites and coffee! Their iced coffee drinks were good and enjoyed their breakfast tacos (bacon and chorizo) and breakfast sandwiches. Decor was beautiful and a unique theme all around. Service was alright, was better on my second trip compared to the first.

Come on inside the loop Parlour! Now I learned of this locations existence 30 days post it's arrival. So I'm a lil late to the party. In my excitement of knowing there is one close to me. I logged on online and placed a order for pickup right after work! I ordered a French toast and honey glazed donut! As you can imagine I could not wait to get a taste of the donut. My scheduled pickup was 5:30pm I get there at 5:20pm. I walk to the counter and inform the cashier that I have an order for pickup. She checks the prepared orders then returns to the counter and ask me if I was sure I selected the right location as I'm staring at my confirmation email with the correct address plus I KNOW I am at the right location... She starts to say I'm sorry but we don't have your order and I inform her to look again. A colleague of hers walks over and they locate the ordered and they're talking amongst themselves saying I dont know why it didn't come up. Anyrate im staring at them still waiting for my order and im like do you have my donuts. They goto the back and make them, this was a 15 min ordeal.... Anyway 4 stars because the donuts are bomb and I've previously had good service at the other locations. Maybe don't order online.

Front to back: turtle, cookies and creme, French toast, and maple bourbon donuts.

We, group of 4, dropped by for their donuts. This is my favorite donut place in Houston and so happy they opened one in this area! Service was great, as the staff explained to us all the donuts available. Their layered donuts make it soft and airy. They have so many unique flavors to choose from. We tried the turtle ( my favorite), cookies and cream, French toast, and maple bourbon. I'm personally not a maple person, so it was my least favorite but still good and everyone else in my group loved it. These donuts were big so we cut them into chunks of four so everyone could take a bite and try. The tropical energizer drink was refreshing but I usually like a cappuccino to go with my donuts. I'll be back to try everything on the menu, including the mini donuts and a cold coffee. There's plenty of parking in this shopping center. They have cute merchandise for sale too, in case you need another tshirt after making a mess or to gift.

I always passed by this new spot and decided to drop in today. I am very happy I did. The staff were extremely friendly from the moment we entered and asked if if was our first time and if we needed help. They explained that the doughnuts were more pastry like, which was good to know. They also said they offered all day breakfast items and coffee. The interior was spacious and neat, with the items clearly displayed at the counter. The merchandise area was also nicely highlighted. I ordered the plan and double chocolate dougnuts and the chorizo breakfast taco. Man those donuts were great! The pastry was thick and fluffy and baked to perfection and nicely offset the sweet toppings. The breakfast taco was slightly crispy, with a heart amount of tasty fillings. A nice place to grab a few bites to eat!

One bite and I'm officially obsessed! These cronuts are crispy on the outside, buttery and airy on the inside but still has the soft slightly chewy core of a traditional donut. We tried the lemon bar, raspberry pistachio and apple pie filled layered donuts. While all three were excellent, my favorite was the raspberry pistachio. I'll definitely be back to try other flavors!

Parlor doughnuts just opened a new location in West U and they had a promotion for a free doughnut on their grand opening day. I downloaded the app to get the deal and came in the afternoon after volunteering. They had 6 donuts available for the free doughnut deal. I saw that their blueberry hill flavor only had one left so I decided to get that. My friend got their chocolate one. These doughnuts were absolutely fire. They were so soft, flaky, and layered. The blueberry icing was soo good and not overly sweet at all. These croissant doughnuts are definitely worth the hype and I can't wait to come back to try more flavors

    Trish N.

My friends raved about this place so I wanted to try it out. I got the mango passion refresher and a mini. The mini was a little larger than bite-sized but was so good. I definitely want to come back and try their other doughnuts because the outside was crispy and flakey while the inside was soft. It was the perfect sweetness for me and left me wanting more. The mango passion refresher was truly what it is called, refreshing. It was perfect for a hot day.

    Jason Z.

These are awesome. The croissant doughnuts are super tasty with great mouthfeel. Lots of flavors are available and the only downside is the price; roughly $4/ doughnut. Each of the flavors we got were delicious. The interior is clean and spacious!

    Nadia B.

I've only been here twice and it's really because their donuts are so good that if I went more often, I'd be bigger than a house lol the first time I went I had their strawberry and I think another flavor which I can't recall at the moment. But recently, I got their cinnamon roll and their strawberry. I went at a later time, so there was only a couple in front of me in the first time I went I think it was a few people in front of me,.. They are super efficient so you're not there waiting all day.

Vegan/Gluten friendly chocolate chocolate donut for $4.70. Next to it is a small lemon for size comparison.
    Reese D.

Stop by for a TGTG box. Their regular donuts are great. I decided to also get their vegan/gluten friendly donuts. It is very small for the price tag. Texture wise, it's a bit crumbly and a tad dry. I'll pass on that next time. Will return to get regular donuts for the family!

Top left is Holiday Cream. Avoid that one. Everything else is good.
    Allie S.

I liked everything but holiday cream. It tasted like air freshener. You're good with any variety of doughnut but that one. They have really neat flavors (except for holiday cream) and aren't overly sweet. The dough is more dense than Shipley's but they all have a nice crust.

Inside you will also find French pastries, coffees and teas, gelato, milkshakes, sandwiches and macaroons. I felt the most interesting items were the French pastries as they are cute and tasty as well. Also, they plate the pastries nicely when you dine in as an added bonus. I tried the Chocolate Royale and the Ruby. Chocolate Royale - a petit chocolate mouse slice with flat chocolate panels along the sides. It is delicate and tasty. If you're a chocolate lover, this is definitely up your alley. Ruby - visually this looks like a strawberry Hershey kiss, with red powder on the exterior and a top piece of foil to resemble foil on the wrapper of a hershey kiss. Inside, it's filled with a strawberry cream and has a chocolate base. I just wish there was more chocolate in this one. They have plenty of seating inside as well as along the sidewalk. Inside you have the more fancy tables, whereas outside, they're more weather resistant and not as upscale in appearance. The soft drinks to drink along with your sweets are in a cold case along the hotel side of the space and you just take them to the register as you order. One of the most surprising things when you come here are the relatively affordable prices as you might expect them to be more for being a coffee shop attached to a 5-star hotel with a helipad.

What's nudged this place up to 5 stars for me is they have really improved their coffee game, specifically their quality of cappuccino's. Previously it seemed more of latte, but now to me its a legit Capp. Their choice of pastries hasn't changed, which gives you a good assortment of choices and they have added an additional barista or server which also is a nice touch for service. The only niggling items, parking can be tough, so you'll have to either walk a block or be quick to find a place close by. Regardless, definitely give this place a go to come for a pastry and coffee.

Also note that if you pay with card it's a 2.5% charge so cash is better if you have it. We didn't but we know now for future. We had a great experience here and will definitely be back.
