When I go see Sarah, I know I'm going to a true professional I can trust 100%. I usually bring a few pictures with me and Sarah knows exactly what to do to recreate the look on my hair. I've done my hair at Parlor twice with Ally and she does a great job in listening to what you want and giving you style advise. I can't gush enough about this place! Today was my first visit, and I got a cut and blow-dry from Autumn. She was patient, attentive, super friendly, and listened to exactly what I wanted. After noticing my scalp was in need of some love, she recommended a scalp treatment add-on (she wasn't pushy about it at all, and I desperately needed it!), which she squeezed in even though she had another appointment right after me. I received the worst haircut of my life from this salon and will never return to the stylist I regretably chose. I'm embarrassed to leave my house and have resorted to wearing a hat until my baby, shredded, crooked, uneven, too short bangs and Lord Fauntelroy hair grow out to a reasonable length that I can again look Like woman. I will be sure never to trust any expert stylist's talent or suggestion. I was very clear about what I didn't want, which was to look like a boy. I also told her what the last person did to my hair, and she agreed it was the wrong technique, but she did the exact same shredding thing with a razor, which you just do not do to thin, fine hair! To compensate for telling her what I thought, I then made the mistake of overly tipping because I actually felt bad for being honest and telling her that I hated the cut and would have no way of working with it. I swore I wasn't going to go on line to vent, but I think it's important to at least warn anyone considering this salon, and there is no way to fix this mess I am stuck with. It will be at least 3 months before I can go anywhere without a hat, so thank God it is winter, and I will have an excuse for wearing one all of the time. I'm not saying to stay away. Just be sure you know what you do want and what you don't want. Ask questions. Ask to see photos if you are looking for suggestions and guidance. Bring photos of what you like. Be specific. The front desk staff are friendly, and the salon is cozy and comfortable. There is nothing worse than getting a haircut that destroys your appearance and is not at all flattering or representative of who you are and how old you are. read more

This was my first time at Parlor and first time getting my hair coloured as well. And I am so glad I found Jenny to do it. During my initial consultation with her, she really listened to what I was looking for and gave me appropriate advice regarding it. I really liked her and went back within two days to get my hair coloured. I was a bit apprehensive because I wanted to colour my hair purple and I wasn't sure how it would look. But Jenny did a fabulous job with it and I am absolutely in love with it. She was friendly and awesome to work with. I first noticed this posh salon while walking down the Antic. Thank my lucky stars! I ultimately walked/ran in yesterday with a hair disaster and Melinda, my coloring angel, came to the rescue!! Long story short, I decided that in my former life, I was a colorist and attempted to 'touch up' my roots (which were dark brown) to match the rest of my (professionally) colored blonde hair. In a word, disaster. I ended up with an orange/ashy combo and what is worse, not only was I going to the Jay-Z concert that night, but am also headed out of town for a conference which I am running! Melinda did an AMAZING JOB!! And, I dug her! She guided me through the process like a champion, explaining each step along the way. I have to tell you, as a brown girl with naturally curly hair, I am always suspect of trying 'random' hairstylists. However, Melinda ROCKS THE HOUSE!! I started going to Parlor a little less than a year ago after having had many terrible color/cut experiences. A friend of mine suggested I give Melinda a call & get a consult. Needless to say, I've been going to her ever since. She's a Master Colorist who knows how to find just the perfect color for my skin tone & has been able to lighten my hair without frying it. On top of that she's helping me restore my curls after a particularly bad experience that I had a few years ago. She's just amazing & she and all the other stylists know their sh*t. I always come in with questions for Melinda & she's always willing to answer even the most random of questions. She even taught me how to replicate how to blow dry my hair to achieve the prettiest curls. Love her!!! Also, every time I've ever been there, I never see any product pushing or pressure to buy everything in the store. Instead, you're told what was used to style your hair or the lotion for the hand massage, etc. & if you're interested, you get but it, if not, there's no side eye, lol. All the staff is pleasant, attentive & just all around great. Even my husband who usually scolds me for my occasional overspending believes that ALL the money I spend there is 100% worth it to see the smile on my face every, single time I walk out of there. read more

Great first experience! It's a very cute salon, it's comfortable with enough space and a cozy feel. They go the extra mile- everything from a hand massage while your hair processes to a goodie bag for first time customers. The service was great too; the guy who greeted me at the front desk was very friendly and my stylist was super sweet and she did a great job (Sarah). My second time seeing Jenny was a complete disaster. She destroyed my curly hair in several misguided and uneducated snips of her scissors. It started out as a simple request to shape up my long curly hair, but I was left with short layers that were choppy, and dead spots in my hair. I called back a few days later hoping she could fix it, but she only made it worse by attempting to texturize my curls even more. Anyone that is knowledgeable of curly hair should have know this only thins the hair out more!!! I contacted her manager who informed me to visit Christina. Christina was a complete doll and tried her best to fix the damage that was done, however I am left with the only option of allowing my hair to grow out to try to fix this horrible cut Jenny left me with. Every time I look in the mirror, I'm completely emotional looking at the state of my hair and how a "trained stylist" could be so careless. My only recourse is I'm pregnant and I hope it grows out soon. It's amazing how a stylist can destroy hair you have spent years growing out in a matter of seconds. Jenny definitely needs more training in curly (multicultural hair). She will be the last person I would ever ask for cut, trim or advice on curly hair again!!!!! read more

Went to this salon expecting a great experience, given the price point and good yelp reviews but walked away very disappointed. The cut I received was nice, however, the color was not. I asked for a color slightly darker than my natural medium brown and walked out with hair that was essentially jet black. Very disappointed to have it dyed a color I didn't ask for, especially at the price point this salon demands. read more

Parlor is simply great. The salon itself is adorable and very comfortable. It's an easy place to go and just enjoy yourself (and your haircut) for a little time. All the people there are friendly and helpful. Of course, my reason for going to Parlor in Brooklyn all the way from Astoria is for Melinda. Suffice to say, I found her 5 years ago in Astoria, and I have followed her wherever she's gone all 5 years. I am a guy with long, curly and fine hair, so not just anyone can cut it well. She brings both the technique of an Aveda-trained stylist and the best basic barber skills all together to give one spectacular cut! Plus, she has to be one of the coolest people around. She's fun, unassuming, lovable and ridiculously caring. When you sit in her chair, you're it for her. The first time I met her 5 years ago, I walked in from a long, bad day, and the first thing she said to me was, "Now this day is all about you! I'll get you some wine, and you sit back and relax!" It's never been any different any other time I've ever gone to see her, and it's clear that she's brought that welcoming and beautiful spirit to Parlor. Parlor is a great fit for someone like Melinda because it's unassuming, welcoming and lovely. Take it from me, and go get your haircut there. No possible way you regret it. read more

Unfortunately due to the fact that I newly have a regular job with regular job hours (blech, i know), I can't make it to Bumble and Bumble model project for the graduated bob any more. So sad! You can't really beat getting an excellent haircut for free, but at least Parlor was way closer to my house and came highly recommended on Yelp and from a colleague. I was nervous to try a new place because isn't everyone nervous to try a new place? Well, I took the plunge yesterday. I called in the morning to see what they had for that day, and they had me come in in the afternoon. Everyone was really nice, the furniture in the waiting room was pretty sweet, and they use all Aveda products which smell so good! I brought some pictures of what my hair used to look like when it was adorably short and also some photos of pics I found online. Jesse was my guy. He looked at the pictures but also threw in some ideas of his own. I was totally game and told him I trusted him. Jesse jumped in, was too "in the zone" to make small talk, which I actually LOVED, and he would check in occasionally to make sure I was into what was going on. When it came time to blow dry, Jesse made sure I saw how he was doing it so that I could do it at home. The cut was $75 plus tax, which I am pretty okay with. And it looked amazing. I'm so happy with the haircut and feel confident I'll go back to Parlor next time I need a cut. I highly recommend this salon. read more

After years of surly hipster hairstylists, I've found my home. Melinda is fantastic. She really took the time to look at my hair and understand the way it grows before cutting it. I have very straight, very fine hair in a short cut. She instinctually understand that I wanted it to be chic and feminine without making me look like my 65 year old mother. I got my hair done a couple months and am only now getting around to leaving a review lol. I usually don't review but I've been thinking about my experience at Parlor and I really want to come back; it's the best salon I've ever been to. I usually only visit salons once or two times for a specific purpose and don't care for coming back, and I figured that I'd get my hair colored and move on to a different salon/colorist again, but I plan on keeping Parlor as my permanent salon. To start off, the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very welcoming. You get offered tea and as many refills as you want as long as you're there. By the way their tea is aveda mint I believe and it's delicious, if they don't sell it already they totally should. Which brings me to my next point: they sell Aveda products as well, and put everything they used on you in a basket so you can take home the products that were used. You have to wear their robes, which feel really nice and luxurious haha. The shampoo and scalp massage is amazing and relaxing. The scalp massage might just be the reason why I'm longing to come back lol. On to my hair color, the dye didn't quite pick up in some areas the first time because it had been bleached before, but Alissa told me to book another appointment to fix this, which would be complimentary. In addition when I came back she explained what might have gone wrong the first time and how she planned to avoid it the second time! I think I paid $175 for my dye job (my hair is very long and it was not an easy dye job, at least for myself who is not a hairdresser lol) so the pricing was definitely worth it for the carefulness that was taken with my hair and the treatment and experience that you get. I'm planning on making an appointment at some point for just a trim and some sort of hair treatment to keep my hair healthy. Autumn is fantastic! I first went to her last year (in the E Village location, although she is now at the Brooklyn one) after a disaster I referred to as the 'lady mullet.' It was bad. Autumn not only fixed it so it didnt even look like a fix (looked like great cut on its own) but developed a plan for growing out my hair so it didnt look like it was growing out. Shes like a scientist, studying your hair characteristics (mine being too much hair and weird waves) to figure out precisely how it will best respond to certain cuts and layers. She is able to explain what she's doing so it makes complete sense. I have never gotten as many compliments as I have since I started going to her - in fact, I never used to get any compliments on my hair before I started going to her. Really, none. Having Autumn as a stylist is a game-changer. Highly recommend! read more

Great experience getting my hair cut for the first time today! I've been buying Aveda products from here for 2 years but never had gotten my hair done. I have very curly hair, and when I asked for a recommendation, I was advised to book with Victoria. She did a wonderful job! She really listened to my hair concerns and gave me solid advice for styling. The reception is warm and friendly and everyone is generally just very nice. Until I found Chutney -- who for the past 9-12 months has been cutting my hair with the best hair cuts I have EVER gotten! Seriously -- random people have complimented me on the street. A friend of mine has been getting her haircut by Melinda for years and always has great cuts. I wanted a pretty radical short cut and needed a place I could trust, so I called Parlor in Brooklyn. Melinda wasn't available, but I made an appointment with Autumn. Everything was really great. The salon is pleasant, the cut comes with an oil scalp massage too! Autumn was great, really sweet and personable. We talked about what I wanted and we looked at photos to make sure we were on the same page. She was really open to feedback as we went along and she was great at explaining what she was going to do and why, which I really liked. In the end I got EXACTLY the cut that I wanted! I've had it for a few days now and it's the most edgy/fashionable hair cut I've ever had and on top of that it's the easiest haircut I've ever had! I just moved to Brooklyn and was desperate for a fresh haircut. I saw so many good reviews for Parlor that I decided to try it out. Everybody working there was so nice and helpful and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Chutney cut my hair and she was amazing!! All I told her was that my short cut had grown out and I wanted a slightly edgier, more modern look and she gave me what might be my favorite cut yet since going from long to short hair. I went to Sarah at Parlor Brooklyn based on its proximity to my house and Yelp reviews. I am so so so glad I found this place! Sarah gave me a full head of blonde highlights and I love how natural and soft it looks. The cut she gave me has proven easy to maintain when I wash and dry it myself. The actual experience inside the salon was lovely -- from the interiors, which are sun-filled and airy, to the other staffers I interacted with (the hair washer and cashier). Sarah herself was super nice and receptive to any requests. The only drawback is that it's a bit pricy -- around $400 for full highlights and cut combined, plus that 20% tip -- but that's pretty normal for talented stylists/colorists at New York salons, alas. Parlor (Brooklyn) is AMAZING!!! It's been a while since I've been able to find an Aveda salon that I can call my hair home, and today I may just have found it! From the first moment I stepped in, I was warmly greeted by the staff and my hairdresser, Melinda. I felt instantly welcome. The energy was relaxed and hip. Melinda was INCREDIBLE! I picked her because of her bio on the Parlor website, though everyone employed at the Parlor salons seem great and wonderful. The girl who washed my hair and massaged my head was great...very sweet and so friendly. Everyone there was unpretentious. Melinda was open and so warm! She listened to what I wanted and what I didn't want (rat tail!) and asked me about what I liked about the pictures I showed her. I felt like we were on the same page, and I felt a feeling of relief and excitement, knowing that what she would give me would be new and flattering. The conversation with her and the staff was easy and genuine. Before I knew it, Melinda was done. She was very confident and that made me feel great. I am soooo happy with how it turned out!! The price may have been the most I've ever paid for a haircut, but it was truly worth it. My next appointment is already made, and I look forward to returning to Parlor!
