Love taking risks and disappointed that after reading all the negative reviews of late the one we took tonight rang true. My steak burrito did in fact have multiple bites that tasted like mold (maybe the tortilla as my wife had virtually the same ingredients but in a bowl). The customer service on the food side was less than noteworthy, the person building our meals put the cilantro on the bottom of the bowl and seemed burdened when we asked what some of the soupy chafing dishes of meat were. Then when we sat at the bar to eat and grab a drink, the bartender seemed like working here was a major drag, or at least that was the demeanor he had when asking for our drink order. This place has seriously fallen from its time of glory back in the mid 2000's. I agree with another patrons response, mediocre service, moldy tasting food and a lack of really seeming to care will not be acceptable. Vote with your wallet. Flies! I get it, It's a big fly summer. And they've got fans on the ceiling which helps. but it's crazy to watch flies landing on the food they are about to make your taco with. Most of the workers point a desk fan at the food which seems to work. But twice I've come up and the same guy has it pointing at himself and the flies are free range on the food. I get that this is the happening spot over in Hyde Park area of Boise, and more so on $1 Taco Thursday, which is when we were there, but I'm not 20. I found it really loud and crowded, so it was difficult even hearing the instructions for ordering. I had a burrito bowl, which was less than fresh and definitely flavorless. The $1 taco was worse -- little to no meat and what meat WAS there was dry (assuming it sits in a warmer all day). Let's just say the taco consisted of sour cream and guac, and little else. In this case, you get what you pay for. I'm sure it's a great hangout for sports and beer, but the food seems like an afterthought. Growing up down the street I have watched Parilla from its start as a teenager and I've eaten here from year one. I haven't been here in a couple years til today and can confirm it's still as garbage as ever. Boise deserves better tacos than this in such a great location. Their produce and cheeses are straight out of Sysco foods bags, just like your high school cafeteria. Their meat is dry, cold and bland throughout, their portions are tiny, their salsas are stale, nor is there hot sauce available to spice it up- nothing about the food is redeemable. Do people know Parilla is a chain? the Bend location is leaps and bounds better quality, why does the food here suck? Much of the clientele is the sports bar middle aged drunk bro crowd & friends of the owner, who's done nothing to improve the food in a decade. Decent for a game & some really nice people work here. It all started when I started working near by and it was an easy lunch option. They started renovating the place into the den of wrapture that it is now just to make us all so comfy we could lie there on our silk pillows and stuff more corn salsa in. Parilla Grill is probably my favorite place in Hyde Park! I love the casual atmosphere and the open roof for summer weather. Between the misters and the fans they still get a frat flow going through so it's not too hot. There are also large tvs that provide great viewing of sports... We watched a tennis match while eating lunch. I would like to give them a 5 star rating; HOWEVER, the service in the bar wasn't great. We take most of our out of town guests here for a drink (or two) and a quick bite to eat. It's nice to have healthier options and they always have great drink specials. Everyone in our group ordered bowls of various kinds and I tried BUFFALO meat and didn't die haha. I actually thought it was delicious! Tacos, burritos/wrap, and salads is the majority of the menu. Review is for Blackened Salmon Wrap which is: Sun-dried tomato smear, wild salmon, spinach, cilantro-lime rice, balsamic vinaigrette. The attendant added pico de gallo, cheese, and I asked for guacamole ($1 more). My total was about $10.80. It was disappointing that they charged extra for salsa. The salmon, tortilla, and guacamole was delicious. I was not a big fan of the sun-dried tomato smear because it was a bit neutral/bland and the texture of the spread was like a hummus texture. I think they might have put too much of the spread because at times it felt that i was eating just spread. I'll definitely come here again and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to chill and eat. Ambiance: An airy, open store-front looking out onto Hyde Park's main drag, Parrilla offers plenty of bar seating under tall skylights, or at the front of the establishment, where tall tables and stools sit against the open, patio-like space of the establishment. Orders are placed at the counter, where food is assembled (prepared) in front of your eyes, and taken to seats of your choosing. Booth seating is also available for patrons desiring a more intimate dining experience. What I ordered: A combination Steak and Chicken Burrito ($7.95) with Double R steak marinated and grilled, and marinated and grilled chicken breast with black beans and my choice of cilantro-lime rice. For our experience, this was like a glorified Chipotle. To begin with, we entered the place and had no idea what to get, so we let the gentleman at the counter know we'd be a moment before deciding. After waiting a minute or so, he let us know we should shout for him, because he'd be in the back. After we decided, more customers got in line behind us. After about 15 seconds, those customers got anxious, asked if we'd been helped (we hadn't called for the buy because, you know, 15 seconds... and we felt a little rude yelling back into the kitchen). We said we were waiting, so the customer (these must be Hyde Park locals, I'm guessing) goes into the kitchen and kind of rudely lets a totally different customer know that we were waiting without service. Whatever, not Parilla's fault. A young lady comes out, takes our order, lets me know we can't have the specialty breakfast wraps (they end at noon; we were ordering around 12:07... oh, well, the hours were posted). After making both of our burritos, mine ripped in the center. She asked me if I wanted it remade, and I let her know I would, as it would be hard to eat a burrito that was falling apart. She asked me some question a little too quickly and quietly, something about double-wrapping, and I told her I'd default to her wisdom. So, instead of making a new one, I guess she just threw another tortilla around my old one. As far as the food goes, my burrito was far too tortilla-riffic and the flavor just wasn't there. I got salsa only in the bottom half and having paid extra for guacamole, I still couldn't taste or see it. The steak was decent, but overcooked and bland. Everything was fairly bland. My wife said she liked her shrimp burrito in the moment, but afterward felt it was overpriced and underwhelming. I GET that this a nice thing for locals, I suppose, especially if you're drinking beer. However, we felt kind of ripped off. When the employees are in the back it takes between 5 - 15 minutes to even get acknowledged. Come if you aren't impatient and don't have places to be.
