When I think of Parilla, the first thing I think about is the atmosphere. It's most remarkable in the spring/summertime when the windows are open, but it is also a great spot year round! This is the kind of place you envision yourself frequenting with your friends after a long day of work or for a quick drink/bite on the weekend. It's often pretty packed in here, so if you come with a group you might find yourself cramming 8 people into a booth intended for 4, but I think that's part of the charm of this place. :) The price point paired with the atmosphere is a college kids dream: A cool vibe with good quality food at an affordable price is a rare find! The price point is decent on any day of the week, but if you are looking for a steal, you'll want to drop in on Thursday for dollar tacos! (Beware: it will be busy. If you don't like waiting in line or being in a crowd, this will not be your jam.) I usually get chicken tacos with all of their fixin's and top it off with their fruity salsa! I'm a HUGE fan of the Parilla Grill in Bend, OR....so when I came to Boise, I figured I should check this place out. All the bad reviews on here made me even more curious -- could the staff really be THAT rude?!? In my experience, staff was just fine. The menu isn't as extensive/exotic as the one in Bend, but you can still get the Wrap of Khan and a few other funky gems...plus they have a full bar. My sis and I shared the Khan nachos and some kind of buffalo meat burrito, plus two house margaritas, and everything was great. Just like the one in Bend, the atmosphere is thick with bros -- but this location felt more college bro than outdoors bro. I would probably come here again, if in Boise! read more

Tired of restaurant servers acting like they're happy to see you? Love being blown off by the staff? Adore being treated like an annoyance by a bartender? You'll LOVE Parilla! I can't think of a restaurant with worse service in Boise. We all go here for the convenience and the price, not for the food or the service. Some of the burrito flavor combinations are tasty (especially the Asian ones), but often the rice and/or the meat are overcooked and dry. The $2 tacos are a good deal...until you remember that you can get a far better taco and be treated with courtesy at a taco truck downtown. But you're hungry and you're tired from your ride and you live nearby, so, in your delerium, you decide it's worth the abuse to support this mediocre business. This weekend I flagged down the bartender after being ignored for a few minutes and he said "I was having a conversation." I asked about the specials and he mumbled something about the house bloody mary being $6 and some other bloody being $3. Being a bit broke at the moment, I ordered two $3 bloodies and he pushed two glasses at me. They were filled with ice and some vodka in the bottom. "I'm sorry? Did I miss something?" I asked. He jerked a thumb around the corner, and I noticed a couple shelves with bloody mary mix, hot sauces and spices: a bloody mary bar! I save $3 by making my own, and I get the added benefit of not being treated like a mosquito. In case you doubt the surly non-service is not intentional, check out the rules they have posted in the bar. Apparently we customers have rules for our behavior, too. read more

Just had a great steak burrito loaded with rice, beans, cheese, cilantro, jalapeños, and salsa at Parrilla! My husband has been talking about this place and the time he would spend here ingesting beer and burritos back in his college days, so since we are visiting Boise for the week, we had to go! The staff was really friendly. Love that the bar area is open air and has a fun eclectic feel. The location could not be better, in the heart of Hyde Park. I really like that there are multiple rice options, several meat choices, and a ton of salsas! Their kid's menu options are fun and creative too :), including PB and honey "tacos". read more

Time and time again I've tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt. I remember visiting friends in town years before moving here and eating a wrap at Parrilla that was one of the best wraps I've ever had. Lightning has not struck twice here, as my experiences after moving here haven't been too successful. I think Dubya R. could be on to something when mentioning that the quality of the food went down when the bar was put in. No one I know thinks this place is as good as it used to be. It's a Steelers bar, and I'm a Steelers fan. But I have to remain objective about the food. Looking at their menu certainly makes eating there tempting. The fusion elements are intriguing. Combine that with its close proximity towards me, and it manages to keep me going back from time to time. But the whole never equals the sum of its parts. I can sum up the food in one word: bland. Fortunately for them some of their salsas are really good and can offset the blandness to a degree. But only to a degree. The meat is consistently overdone. If all of their beef is coming from Snake River Farms like I think it is, then it's being wasted in its preparation. The tacos are tolerable for a buck on Thursdays. I'd rather pay the same price or a quarter more and head to a taco truck though. The North End needs its own taco truck, dammit! Some of the breakfast options can rise above their lunch/dinner ones. Their large breakfast burrito, the O Boy, combined with their hot/sweet salsa ( With peaches? mangoes? Can't remember), can be fulfilling. And once in a blue moon I'll get a crepe, which are made with tortillas. The toppings bar has the potential to gross me out. Some of what's on there can look like it's been sitting there for a long long time. And when I've gone in the summertime, flies have managed to make their way in and fly around the bar and land on toppings, which has made me leave without ordering before. The first time I went to parilla was a few months ago,I had the chile verde burito and it was delicious! I went there again today (it was dollar taco Thursday and very bussy) and ordered the steak burito with cilantro-lime rice and pinto beans and it was awful...the cilantro-lime rice tasted nothing like cilantro or lime. The verde salsa was bland and I could barley taste it. Parilla is good and I would go there again (although not for awhile) its just very inconsistent. read more

I'm sorry, but the serving size is a joke. I understand $1 tacos is super cheap, but when it's literally just salsa and lettuce... That's a rip off. The server on 11/12 took the tongs with the meat, put it in the taco, and if it was chicken she only left 3 pieces and if it was chanco she took half back and used her finger to "spread" the meat. Taco Thursday is where it's at! Chicken, shredded pork, or rice and bean tacos for $1 each all day. The place was absolutely slammed with college kids (that's how you find the best deals, by following the broke college kids). I got 3 chicken and 3 pork. I was stuffed, next time I'll probably go with 4 total. Both were good, but the pork was superior: soft and fatty. I haven't found a salsa combo I'm crazy about just yet, but there are plenty of choices. read more

Parilla has a great funky Hyde Park neighborhood vibe that's perfect for a casual afternoon. There are great rotating drink specials for each day of the week and $1 tacos on Thursdays. Seating is limited and on a first come basis, so come early. And keep in mind, the place can get loud and rowdy in the evenings and during football season. As far as the food goes, while I enjoy the creative fusion burrito concept, I have some complaints about the meat portions. The burritos are large, but mostly consist of toppings with a rice filler and very little meat. Although the fillings and accompaniments are always tasty, if I order a chicken burrito, I want chicken in every bite. In addition, there is occasionally some inconsistency with the freshness of the meat. Parilla grills all their meat products in house, then puts them in a warmer at the service station, so the quality and freshness is hit or miss depending on how long it's been sitting in the warmer. Since it's impossible to know how fresh the meat is, it's a bit of a gamble going in and on more than one occasion I've had a burrito with dry, stale meat. The small portion of meat (fresh or not) remains consistent with each visit. The shining star of Parilla is their house made salsas--a variety of 8 or so, all with different heat levels and all delicious. However, this star is dimmed a bit because the tortilla chips are the bagged, generic store-bought variety that are quite stale. It's a real shame to accompany amazing fresh salsas with low quality tortilla chips. Lastly (and probably least important but still worth noting), the water cups are small (maybe 5-6 oz) and it's kind of inconvenient to get up multiple times to refill them when you're enjoying a spicy salsa. Overall, Parilla, with its funky Hyde Park setting, is a fun place to spend a chill afternoon at the bar. If they were more generous and consistent with their meat portions/quality, bagged the cheap tortilla chips, and gave real water cups, this place would be a 4 or 5 star joint. read more

Love the food but they lack in customer service. I've been there many times. The bartenders are very dismissive. This morning I stood at the bar for about 5 minutes to ask a question. The bartender never once looked up or acknowledged my existence. He was too busy working on the computer. A "Hi, I'll be with you shortly" would have been nice. Nope, I got nothing. Moist misters abound, Parilla grill offers fair dining options within a reasonable budget. While sparse with meats, the beans are aplenty. The TV in the bathrooms startled me, and is unnecessary. Was going to take a star off for roads being chipped, but quesadilla had excellent fresh cheeses. We could taste the freshness of the cheeses. Speaking of, dogs should be on leash at all times and not allowed to bark at oncoming dogs. Ice water had excessive scoops of ice. Limes were yellow and dry; are your limes actually lemons? Where are your citri from???? The napkins were rough on my dates face. She had nice skin until then, and now I have to take her to the pharmacy instead of finishing my spirits! Following the order of a blackened salmon burrito, I watched in horror as the line cook grabbed a raw salmon filet out of the refrigerated drawer with a gloved hand, and then continued to prepare the burrito - with the same glove and raw salmon juice - as the salmon cooked on the flat-top. The line cook grabbed lettuce, scooped rice out of the spoon, and spread sauce with contaminated gloves before I stopped my order. If you ate here on 11/16/17 and got sick, this might be why.
