So, since Kendra always insisted on walking my dogs in and out of her salon back grooming room with a slipknot leash instead of picking them up, as I requested, I want her to know that Sammy has a nearly collapsed trachea, the size of a straw, evidenced by xray today at the dr office (Care Animal Hospital). When we noticed him having a limp in his right leg. I had gone in to see if he has arthritis or injury (no) and found out my vet's and my suspicion that he had a compromised trachea all along (which I told Kendra) is very true. It's very sad that a groomer would rather see a dog lose their life than care about the dog's well-being and accommodate their special needs. I asked her staff to either put on his harness (did not do) or pick him up (no, would not do). Every single time, I brought him in, they insisted on pulling him in their backroom via slipknot leash, and each time I picked him up, he was back on the slip knot leash, no matter how many times I pled his case. So she should know that it's likely that she's contributed to his collasped trachea condition and he's now on lifetime meds (Cerenia). That's why Sammy was so sensitive re his neck area, and why I kept reiterating the concern re his neck. I think that Kendra does not cater to senior dogs, anxious dogs, special needs dogs, or dogs with partially collapsed (and now nearly collapsed) tracheas. Kendra only does exactly what she wants, not what an owner requests, and you can be sure she'll ignore your requests, even if they write them down. I've been bringing my Australian labradoodle here for about 2.5 years now since his first puppy cut and have always been happy with the cut and quality of care for our fur baby. They are so thorough with questions before the cut to make sure they cut as much or as little as I want on all areas and after the cut they have notes of how his behavior and comfort was as well as any findings and concerns. The pricing is comparable to other places and the only thing that I don't like is that they don't have someone covering the phones so to make an appointment I always have to call and leave a message then hope to be available when they return my call or it becomes a game of phone tag. You'll notice every negative review here has the owner making excuses and never an apology! I traveled far and wide to come here because of the good cuts they show online. The place was really pricey and at some point they shaved my dogs leg to the flesh. We didn't notice anything until way later because they didn't say a word about it when picking him up and the wound was on the inside of his hind leg. They also didn't attempt to treat the wound at all so now my dog had an open sore that has been infected. This is what $115 (plus tip) gets you here. Accidents happen, but not acknowledging it made the whole situation unprofessional and dangerous to my dog's health. I understand that grooming is difficult but at least own up to your mistakes so proper immediate care can be taken to open wounds. Avoid this place. read more

I'm not one to write reviews but this was an experience that I think Pet owners should be made aware of before they make the decision to take their dog to this business. We had brought our dog "Molly" to them on 3 other occasions and we were previously satisfied customers. All I can say is that we won't be back. Our gorgeous Bernedoodle came back to us looking like a toddler had there way with the clippers. To her credit "The Stylist " called us when they got Molly on the table and said that she would have to go a "little shorter than usual" because of "matting" I was OK with that because I was under the impression that they wouldn't absolutely ruin the likeness of a Bernedoodle haircut. We were told our appointment would take longer because of the amount of time their clients had been away and it would take longer to work through the matting and those sorts of things. Our appointment was the shortest appointment we have had to date. This place is a "pet groomer" part of that is (call me crazy) grooming the pet not just clipping all their hair off. When I picked Molly up the receptionist actually asked me if I liked the ridiculous looking ponytail that was on top of her head. Needless to say when I got home I wasn't the only one dissatisfied with the haircut my children were shocked they said "she looks ugly", "she looks sad". Ok, so on to the main reason I won't be bringing my dog back, I called back to work out getting the top of your hair cut off because the birds nest that was left up there was obnoxious and unacceptable , they agreed and I brought her back the next day. I also mentioned that I would like to speak to the owner to discuss my dissatisfaction. Of course I came on to Yelp to see if I was the only one that had this kind of trouble with the Upscale Tail, sure enough I wasn't and after reading the reviews and hearing the responses from the owner I should've expected the amount of excuses I got from her when I spoke to her. I won't bore you with all the grooming tips she tried to give me but let's just say not once but at least three times she told me" it's just hair it'll grow back" I was pretty clear with her that I was dissatisfied and I didn't receive a single apology, what happened to customer satisfaction being a priority? I wasn't looking for something for nothing I was looking to be a satisfied customer as a business owner it's in your interest and your responsibility to satisfy your customers and that is why I won't be back. It's highly likely that she'll come on here and try to defend herself and say her stylist did what was in the best interest of the pet. I think in all likelihood this place is overbooked and they just do their best to get through their clients by completely scalping off all her hair in the shortest amount of time possible. One last thing the owner said she could actually have gone a little shorter as you see in the last picture she almost looks scalped you can see the pink of her skin really? Shorter? Do yourself a favor and save the $110 extra services haircut and go somewhere else. I don't know what else to say, What an awful experience. read more

I was dog-watching a 13 year old toy poodle named Biscuit and decided to spoil him before his owners returned for him. Brought him here where he got the works - pawdicure, teeth brushing, wash and cut, and a green mohawk for some creativity! They did a wonderful job and cost was actually pretty similar to the deluxe packages at petsmart. All the stylists knew their regular customers and pets by name and it was a very welcoming atmosphere. Biscuit seemed to like it more than Petsmart. =) He came out looking fluffy with fabulous paws, and it was nice to find a place to be able to do some creative stuff like colored fur and mohawk. I dropped my dogs off an hour early and they said they were going to charge me $10 per dog per hour. I was pretty upset, but I really didn't know. I have tried many groomers for my 3 dogs, Daisy, Louie and Vienna. Some good, others not so good. They all seem to cost around the same. I read about the Upscale Tail and thought it would be expensive and focusing more on show dogs vs our everyday house pets. To my surprise, I was incorrect. It is located in a small strip center in the corner and can be easily missed. (Note. I went past it the other day and a new PET SALON sign was up and very prominent). When you first walk in, you can't help notice all the trophies. When I took the dogs in (A little crazy bringing 3 in at one time) they came out and greeted each dog like they are old friends. Right off the bat I could tell they were good with dogs. I received a phone call after 3 hours that the dogs were ready. They heard my voice as soon as I walked in and started barking. When they brought them out, I couldn't believe they were the same dogs. Daisy, who is just one big ball of hair and sheds non stop, (Yellow Lab) looked like she lost 20lbs. her coat was thinned out, soft and shiny. Getting all that hair off of her was worth every penny. The amount of hair coming off of her in the last 2 weeks have been minimal. I have never had Daisy look so good from any other salon before. Louey (Black Lab) was next to come out. Black as night and his coat was very shiny. They put a ribbon around his neck shaped like a tie. He looked adorable. Interesting fact I learned from them. A white dog will always shed more then a black dog every time. Even if it is half black and half white, more white hair will come off then black. The last was Vienna (Dachshund). She looked extremely good with her little purple bow. She smelled good (which is a miracle for her since she rolls in everything) and her nails were finally cut short enough where she won't be scratching up the wood floors. When it was time to pay the bill, I was pleasantly surprised that it cost the same as all the other salons. I would suggest highly that you try them out. I have been taking Mochi (a shih tzu) here since she was a puppy (4 months). I've had other dogs with bad grooming experiences, so I wanted to find a place that seemed reputable and did qualify cuts. I found Upscale Tail on Yelp and was impressed with the award-winning stylists and the photos. Even though it is about 30 minutes away, I decided to try it... And it has been perfect ever since! Mochi gets her hair cut with Liz, which I can't say enough nice things about. She loves mochi and mochi seems to love her right back! Liz always takes the time to come out when I drop Mochi off and talk about what style she should have, and always makes sure to make any changes if needed before I leave. Finally, I think the prices are reasonable for the quality, service and high quality products that are used. Mochi's cuts (with wash, style) have ranged from $30-50 (depending on cut), but think this is very reasonable. I know many other grooming salons that are $70+ for shih tzus and they aren't even as good! Give Upscale Tail a try... You won't regret it! read more

If it were possible to give this place six stars, I would probably write a review complaining that I can't give them ten stars. I will never go to any other pet salon for as long as I live in Naperville, Illinois. My poor children have had awful experiences at grooming salons (mainly petsmart) that leave them absolutely traumatized. We've had issues where they've come home with cuts on their skin, eye infections (from a cut near the eye), bloody paws from their nails being cut too short, and scratches on the inside of their ears. I've about killed at least three groomers and that's no joke. After multiple times of this occuring, I decided to groom them at home. What a nightmare. They certainly weren't the most stylish dogs, but at least they were comfortable with me and I knew they were safe. I saw the Upscale Tail as I was driving on Plainfield Naperville Road. The massive amounts of trophies in the window immediately caught my attention. So I went home, did some research, read some reviews, and found absolutely nothing wrong with this place. It seemed almost too good to be true in fact. I immediately called to schedule an appointment. The lady over the phone was just amazing; extremely polite, full of information, friendly and extremely concerned about the well-being of my boys. She assured me that they DO NOT have heated kennel dryers, which was my biggest concern. So many people have lost their pets to these things because they overheat. The kennels are air conditioned, they blow dry them by hand, AND they even put a head wrap around the dogs ears so they won't get scared by the sound of the blow dryer. It's also sprayed with a camomile perfume to calm the dogs! I dropped my boys off and they were so scared, literally pawing at the door to escape. Kendra, the owner, was just outstanding with them. She didn't force them into grooming right away, but worked with them for awhile to gain their trust by playing with them, letting them explore, and giving them lots of treats! When they were willing to go with her on their on, she bathed them and cut their hair. She also cleaned their ears and cut their nails. No cuts, no blood, no bruising! Everything was perfect. Surely this must cost a fortune right? I mean, they have all these trophies for grooming dogs, and they gave my dogs the ultimate salon service... ...$50 for the hair cut, bath, nails, and ear cleaning! THAT'S IT!! I couldn't believe it. I was paying $50 just for a bath and cut at Petsmart and nails were an extra $12! When I picked up my boys, they looked absolutely amazing and they had little ties on their collars so they looked all fancy and business-like!! So cute. What I loved most is the fact that they didn't want to leave. That's how I know Upscale Tail really did a great job and treated them like their own family pets. This place is amazing! I found out about Upscale Tail from my Aussies' good girl trainer. The one Aussie has no issues with grooming. My other one gets so scared Petsmart refused to touch her and said she needed to be tranquilized and a vet groom her. That was pretty bogus. Upscale Tail did some meet and greets so my scared Aussie could build trust. They gave her tons of love and treats. She let them groom her then!!! Now her paws no longer bother her and they brought out her cute little nub and Aussie wigglebutts. She was very happy leaving vs. at Petsmart where she was freaking out even in the car. I've been a client for over 7 years and I would never take my dog, Ranger, to another groomer. He was anxious as a puppy and to this day he still isn't a fan of most people. I know he can be difficult and the entire staff is just so accommodating and kind. They always explain why he needs to be trimmed a certain way when it's different from what I request. They alert me to any new bump or issue they see. Even if it's as minor as his ear being a little red. Kendra found the tiniest little lump and knew it was different than Ranger's other bumps. Turned out she found his cancer so early that Ranger only needed surgery. I will always be thankful that she caught that tiny detail and made sure I understood she really felt urgent it needed further examination. Ranger has had a few different surgeries and I'm always grateful for how well they treat his healing skin. His hair is trimmed so nicely that it makes the slow process of hair growth easier to watch. I love that I can book my appointments for the full year. They've always been very upfront about the length of his appointment and will let me know the days they might need longer due to staffing issues. I usually wait until they call me to give me an update on pick up times. The office is alway clean and their policies and procedures are easy to access. I appreciate the clear and precise rules. Knowing they are enforced makes me feel comfortable that Ranger will be safe during his time there. I highly recommend Kendra and the Upscale Tail. read more

This place is amazing. In fact, amazing doesn't feel like strong enough of a word. Everyone here cares about what they do, and the pets they see. I am a very nervous person, and leaving my pet at a groomer used to leave me worried for hours until I could pick them up. Not here. I am able to drop my dog off with ease knowing she's in good hands. My dog is also blind, and they do a great job of making her comfortable. As far as the price goes, they are giving my dog a haircut, manicure, pedicure and even expressing her anal glands. I know my haircut, manicure and pedicure is more than double what they charge...and I don't nip at my hairdresser or pee on her :) In all honestly, I feel happy to have found them. I trust them, and my dog is comfortable here. They are very nice, and the facility is modern and clean. Do not come. I have a 13 year old mini poodle. Ever since my last experience here with my dog, we stopped coming here. Last time we picked him up traumatized. He always follows me when we are home and after picking him up, for several days he behaved like he was abused and not following me at all. My Dog is older and has a alot of warts. They cut one of the warts and ever since then, has never healed and has grown bigger. When spoken with the manager, they didn't admit anything and blame it on my dog for not coming back to cut his hair sooner. My vet had personally told me not to groom my dog often as it causes extra stress to him due to his age but the managers here had always shift the blame on not coming often enough which causes my dog's hair to curl up (poodle hair), making the haircut more difficult. Because of this they always upcharge me more which I don't mind. But what I do mind is remembering how traumatized my dog was for several days after and i been to several groomers before and he had never acted like that. I made this post a year late because everytime I get my dog groomed now( not this place), the crust from his cut wart comes off and your left with this raw bloody wart. They fed our Beagle many treats during his visit for a nail file. $15 later I had a happy Beagle with the most beautiful, nicely filed nails I have ever seen. In the past, I would pay about $25 for a bath/brush/ears/nail trim at another place. But the last visit, $25 and several unpredictable hours later, was it for me. They had completely missed some of his nails and I went back the next day to get it fixed. I vowed to find a new place. I can't believe I have ever had my dog groomed anywhere else but here. I have had many negative experiences over the course of the last 3 years, but my experience with The Upscale Tail was nothing short of amazing. I have two furry children at home, one being a golden retriever. He is a very timid, shy guy with a ton of separation anxiety whenever he is away from his home, mom, or dad. Because of this, leaving him with a groomer has always been hard to begin with. But then to make it even more difficult on me, my poor guy has come home with cuts, scrapes, and even more anxious than when I dropped him off. The last time I picked him up this way, I promised that I would never again let that happen to him. To say the least, I have been an upset and terrified dog mom about getting him groomed at all-but it simply needs to be done. I was telling another pet owner about my many negative experiences when they had suggested The Upscale Tail. Although of course still nervous, I thought it would be worth a try and went home and did my research. Everything looked amazing at first glance, so I called and booked an appointment asap- which was a wonderful experience in itself. Their staff was friendly, very explanatory in their practices, and reassuring even just over the phone. Then the day finally came. I brought my big guy in for his appointment and was so nervous about how his day was going to go. He briefly fought when they went to take him back, but was no where near the struggle he had given everyone in the past. This made it much easier on me leaving him there, although I did worry throughout the day. He is scared of dryers (not sure why), so I knew it would take them longer than the estimated couple of hours, but I still could not wait just to go pick him up. When I arrived back, not only did he actually look happy for once leaving the groomer, but he looked like a completely different dog (not an exaggeration at all). He was perfectly trimmed down to where I would want him to be in the summer months and had the most adorable tie on. I was so proud of my handsome guy and his haircut, as was he. The price was more than reasonable for the job they did. They mentioned that they brushed out a bunch of dead hair it was noticeable instantly. I would have never known my buddy could look so amazing and "clean" (for lack of a better word, but in reference to his hair/coat). I have had special "shed control" services done at a few other grooming salons and he has NEVER looked the way he did picking him up from The Upscale Tail. Lilly, our chocolate lab, was sprayed by a skunk the last night. Despite my efforts and constant bathing, I could not get ride of the smell on our precious pup. She smelled horrible! I knew it was time to bring in the professionals on this one. Who did we call?? The Upscale Tail was to the rescue! This was our first time ever having our chocolate lab groomed, and this place did a fantastic job! My dog never looked so good! The staff and Sarah were great with us at all points of contact. From the initial phone call, drop off to pick up. The best part is my dog doesn't smell like a skunk anymore! Thanks for taking care of our dog on such short notice!! My first review for yelp. Want to say something for their nice work. I'm a little allergic with my cat's hair so thinking about taking him to haircut. I lived in Westmont, however nearby Petsmart & pet plus didn't have cat grooming. Feel sad and reserved for Upscale Tail which was 2 0 min driving from my house. I came at the right time and their are very nice to confirm all the information (pronunciation) for Qiuqiu. They told me will call me back in 4-5 hours and they finished grooming for only 3 hours. My cat looks "pretty" and clean with haircut, shower and nail cut. Much better than my expectation! Will be back and recommend to my friends! read more

We took our dog here for the first time yesterday. Let me start off by saying one of the best experiences I have had with my pup at a groomer. I loved that the groomer came out to discuss what I wanted done. Then when we came to pick him up it was apparent that he really loved the groomer. It's a great feeling to hear that the groomer loves your dog. I also loved that they let him run around and get belly rubs from everyone. It's comforting knowing when I bring my dog here he is being loved just as much at home. He also looks adorable! We will be bringing our other dog back on Friday! lol Update: second visit with our other dog! Another happy dog!
