I came by The Grove recently, saw this place, and immediately knew that I had to try it. I ordered the Black Ink Tagliatelle with additional chicken. My two friends who came along ordered a pasta with clams and a classic marinara pasta. We all enjoyed the experience very much. My black ink tagliatelle had a good amount of squid, and a delicious flavor. There was extra pasta sauce still at the bottom of my bowl after mixing everything together, so I dipped my squid into it, and the sauce tasted amazing. My friend who got the pasta with clams also really enjoyed it. She was overjoyed to find that there was a very generous amount of clams. Most places skimp on the seafood portions, but not here. They definitely give you what you paid for in clams and squid. Although my friends were initially hesitant to try this place due to the higher prices, they agreed afterwards that it was definitely worth the price due to the generous portion sizes. headed to this place for some pesto pasta. located in a outdoor food court. exterior and interior just a small booth with open kitchen. some counter seating and shared tables with other vendors. 1.5 hour validated parking. simple menu of freashly made italian style pastas like spaghetti and mearballs, lasgna, tagatelle in bolognse etc. ordered what i came for lumache in pesto with sliced procuiitto and dollop of freah mozza. they cook to order. waited 20 minutes and got the food. total damage $25. and the verdict? its good and bad. classic case of quality over taste. while quality was top notch like fresh pasta, cooked nicely al dente, good procuissto, and fresh mozza , i have to give a low grade on the taste. the dish was just too salty. so much that i could not taste the pesto. and add the salty procuitto they put in the top, its just salt on top of salt. could not eat anymore aftet a few bites. ending up taking it home and cooking extra pasta and adding it and that made it better as added pasta and liquied helped dilute the saltjness. so while quality is good and visually pleasing, end of the day taste is whats most important and just wasnt that good for me. so give 4 star for quality and 2 star for taste with my avg score of 3 star. read more

However, I will say that the caprese salad was good! Quality of the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese were on point. Though.. that is expected given the location of the restaurant being in a farmers market ! Phenomenal fresh hand made pasta and service. I was browsing all the vendors in the food market and found this little pasta shop tucked away in the back. There is a small seating with service at the countertop beside the vendor, many customers just ordered and picked up to eat at other tables. John, our server was extremely attentive, helpful, and friendly. I ordered the carbonara and gf ordered the bolognese, both were delightful. The pasta itself was delicious and chewy, definitely freshly hand made. We even saw them make pasta through out our lunch. Their sauce, portion size, and presentation was amazing as well. I personally also enjoyed their olive oil and balsamic vinegar with bread. I definitely cannot wait to go back and try their other pastas. read more

What I find unbelievable is the price for the portion. A cool $30 not including tips for one pink vodka pasta with chicken is pretty outrageous being this is not fine dining. I understand everything is convenient here but unless you can transport yourself to magically imagine you're in a fine dining area it could be hard to swallow a $30 meal!! I keep thinking when you're in LA you got to behave like LA person who have no care about money. Nonetheless the food is great but I don't think I'll be visiting again because there's so many other choices that will fill you up pretty well unless you are super craving Italian. Stars for flavor. SPAGHETTI A LA MEULE - Spaghetti cooked in a parmesan wheel flambé with Cognac - while I love the wheel, I don't like the cognac and after trying a couple of times now, I have decided the bitterness from the alcohol is just not for me. The cheese wheel did give that creaminess that I crave, but wish there was another flavor element. TAGLIATELLE BLACK TRUFFLE - Tagliatelle, black truffle sauce topped with urbani sliced black truffle - black truffle sauce was muted and maybe a little salt or something umami could bring out the flavor. Prices are on the higher side - both were upper $20s. There are options to buy the pasta uncooked as well as sauces. I'd completely forgotten we had dined here until Ken N liked my photograph earlier today. We came here after our visit to the nearby Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, my review of which, was removed by Yelp "because it is more representative of the extraordinary circumstances we are experiencing than an everyday experience at the business" whatever that means. We sure liked this Farmers Market even though it was pay to park, and we pottered about weighing up all the plentiful food choices in this delightful place and two of us settled on the clam linguine here. It wasn't easy but the clams did it. Once you place your order they call you when the food is ready and it didn't take long. The carpetbagger clams were sweet and tasty with wonderful scent of garlic - the portion was good. We call them carpetbagger in Europe. It wasn't just good food it was excellent. The light sauce too was a delight, just clinging to and coating the pasta which is just how it should be. They also gave us little plastic pots of dried red chilli flakes but I didn't need it. Although my photo doesn't show it, we were sat right beside a bar so we had local lagers to enjoy with the pasta. So it was perfect even though we sat at a cheap table and chairs. My wife opted for Chinese food adjacent to the pasta place as she's not a pasta fan, which she said was just ok. We bought other foodie goodies before we left and our next call was to a chain of cheese cake stores; I think called the Cheesecake Factory - which we had never heard of before that day. The spicy pink vodka sauce is mediocre and not worth its price considering the atmosphere and taste. It just tasted like plain tomato sauce pasta. Would not try again.. The Cacio E Pepe tastes like milk and is not worth it either. Truly don't know how you could mess up a simple pasta.. Both pastas were flavorless and definitely would not return back here. I ordered the Vincent's Favorite, which is lumache, pink sauce, vodka and red pepper flakes. The cost was $25. The noodles needed to be cooked a minute or two longer and stirred it seemed. They were not al dente and one noodle actually had a crunch to it. That said, the flavor of the sauce was delicious. It was not overly creamy or runny, but just right. The red pepper flakes added just the right amount of kick too. I also had an order of the meatballs, which were $15. This comes with three large sized meatballs covered in marinara sauce. The sauce was more on the acidic side, but still delicious. I would recommend asking for bread to dip into the remaining sauce after you finish the meatballs. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. It took about 15 minutes for the food to be served, which is very reasonable for how busy they were. All in all, this is a great place to eat and I would recommend it. The prices are far too high in my opinion for the portion sizes, but that is part of being in LA I guess. read more

I'm in love with this place. I love to sit at the counter and watch the fresh pasta get made! I recommend any pasta off their menu, everything is always fresh hot and delicious. Favorites of mine are the arribiata, cacio y pepe, and the bolognese. The folks who run this shop are so lovely and always make me smile. Yes, the pastas are pricey it's comparable to dining in at an Osteria joint with the price of the pasta, but just as delicious. Always eating here when I come to the grove service is excellent as always. The ambience is the Grove farmers market. If you're not familiar, sometimes it's busy and sometimes less. I recommend dining for here instead of to go and sit at their counter if it's open. :) read more
