Pasta Louise has been fantastic since they first opened their doors on 8th & 8th, and I'm happy they've been able to expand to a bigger location. Their seasonal salads are always unbelievable, especially the summer tomato salad. How do they get such perfect tomatoes every time?! Update- they have added a nice vegan mushroom pasta dish, and an outstanding vegan chocolate cake dessert. They added a note to ask your server about their vegan options, which isn't quite as good as labeling which dishes can be prepared vegan, or which toppings are or are not, but is a good step in the right direction. I really don't get it. I ate at the original location once, and it was fine - but just fine, not great. Now they've occupied the old Johnny Mac's space (and they've decorated it nicely), so I went back. The pasta was mediocre. Of the four of us at the table, only one ate more than half of the dish. I guess I don't mind that they serve only one type of pasta each night - it's kind of brilliant, really, since it means they can serve it on a rolling basis all night, and really maximize the turnover/profits. But the pasta had better be good (if the word is in the name of your restaurant), and it wasn't. There are lines every night Thursday-Sunday, so apparently, I'm the outlier (along with my dining party). But I don't get it. It's really not very good. read more

It's not often you find yourself rooting for a business. Pasta Louise won its fans the hard way, by making terrific food, and treating its customers well. Because of that it quickly became a beloved part of the neighborhood. For the new location they took what worked about the cafe, and grew it, in what feels to me, like thoughtful smart ways. It's bigger, it's a nice place to spend time in, and you can tell the staff care about your experience there, and at the heart of it: they still have terrific food (and some new favorites). In short : great food, warm staff. Maybe that's why the new location has been able to pull off a sort of magic trick...it feels like it's always been here, and I'm guessing they will be for a long time. read more

Pasta Louise - Italian Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I spend my summers in Italy. I am not sure why this restaurant is so popular. The last time I came lasagna was cooked to oblivion, pasta dish so over salted it was hard to eat. The previous time noodles were rubbery and too Al dente . I like Al dente but you needed a hacksaw to cut though it. nice service and atmosphere, now they need to match the level of cooking. read more

I have dined at Pasta Louise numerous times - with my kids, with friends, on my birthday, and most recently had a great experience there just last week. My only small gripe until now had been that cocktails are pricey (but delicious, boo hoo, right?). I'm crushed that my experience last night for New Years Eve has now soured me on it for a while (and I was excited for the cocktail bar being opened too). I know judging a restaurant for a night like NYE which the service industry probably hates is perhaps unfair. But I made a reservation, via resy, for 6pm. When we arrived, my dad (an older gentleman who also left a review that I'm just elaborating on) and I were taken about 2 steps to a high top table with stools directly behind the host stand, I believe it was 1 of only 2 tables like it. We asked to be seated at a regular table but was told I booked a high top. The only time I've ever been asked to make a choice of tables has been when the outdoor area is an option. I shared my confirmation which doesn't say high-top and was shown the seating chart (which only proves that's where they put us...). I don't know whether or not this was a Resy mistake or if another party before us put up a bigger argument and got their way, but we were offered 1 stool with a back as a consolation as a party of 3, and sort of left hanging while they studied the tables. I was a little surprised that the owner / manager didn't come talk to us, that they didn't offer a drink....No option to wait a bit and then get seated at a different table? We left. And then yes, I got a notification that Resy charged me $60. How the hostess could have considered our reservation "cancelled" is really mind boggling. That table had a taker before we were even out the door, and come on, no hospitality at all? Yes, this was a special night being a holiday, but stick to the way you usually operate! Skip the tasting menu and booking tables within an inch of your life and just do your thing. Given the popularity of the restaurant, I know one sad customer isn't a game changer to any restaurant but needed to share. **Editing to add that Pasta Louise did refund the canceled reservation fee. read more

Main reason I always came to this restaurant, aside from the friendly service, was the value proposition. Was heartbroken to discover prices went up significantly, and quality was disappointing. My pasta with shrimp, unlike the previous times when it came with abundant shrimp, had 3 shrimp. read more

I'll start by saying that the pasta is good. So no problem there. But I walked away not feeling great about the experience when paired with the price. We paid the regular premium price that we would at a restaurant with waiters and decent tables and glassware. And obviously, we tipped since we do that no matter what, but when I think back there wasn't actually a wait staff. It's not that type of restaurant. It's counter service so we got our own food when our names were called and it came in disposable containers, even the wine. The tables were plastic. Which is a fine experience, if the price matched. I ate at a few restaurants that weekend with actual wait staff and this was still the biggest bill. read more

Truly excellent food. Everyone's dish was delicious, not at all your average Italian place. The sauces were really a cut above - maybe the best pesto I've had outside of Italy. We absolutely love Pasta Louise! I'm gluten free and have never been able to find a restaurant that puts as much energy into getting their gluten free noodle right as this place does - it is *the best*. My non-gluten free husband even loves the GF noodle (as well as their regular noodles!!). Everything on the menu is fantastic. We especially love the ricotta and tomato appetizer, and the cacio e pepe. The overall vibe of the new location is amazing - we have already been there more times than I'm willing to admit, and it has been great food and great service every time. read more

Pasta Louise is one of my favorite sit down places in Park Slope, so when my friend came to visit from California, I knew I had to take her. I'm sensing a trend. The neighborhood haters are coming out. I didn't think I would have to review this place, but 3.5 stars and falling is not fair. Pasta Louise opened early pandemic a few blocks away in a very small location. By running a tight ship and making pasta daily they had a full house every day. Then the bar that was in this location, through poor management went out of business. So this family friendly place took over. They updated the decor, fixed the place up, added a coffee stand, and attempted to offer the neighborhood something different. Because it's new, on weekend nights it gets busy. Breakfast and lunch are easy to get a seat. Menu is limited, but offers fresh, inspired, family friendly italian food. We split for tasty dishes. Pasta and meatballs, mushroom pasta, cacio e pepe, and a seafood pasta. Dishes were not too big (reminded me of pasta in Rome) salad was fresh and tasty. Dessert was lovely and so was coffee. If you have to wait it's annoying. They need reservations. Maybe they should add a few entrees to the menu. But staff is friendly. Everyone loved the pasta. I will take this place over Johnny mac's any day! read more

I would rate 1 star for the food, but the service was very friendly, and the ambiance is beautiful. We tried the regular tomato sauce pasta and the butternut squash and sage pasta. Both tasted like they came out of a can. The pasta noodles were very overcooked. The butternut squash pasta had a slimy grayish green base, and the tomato sauce pasta was at once bland and dry, and at the same time careened me through flavors I've never tasted in pasta sauce. I felt a little insulted that someone served these to us and expected us to eat them. When we sent back a full plate without asking for a to-go box, the waitress didn't seem phased, nor did she ask if there was a problem. My family had the pleasure of eating at Pasta Louise for the third time and each time was a delight! We began with the starters of burrata with persimmons and whipped ricotta with fennel oil, which were both delicious. The pasta dishes we had were so fresh and amazing. We finished off dinner with roasted banana bread with ice cream and salted caramel, which was divine. They had a great drink selection. This is a pricey spot for pasta but the service and ambiance make up for the price...somewhat. Overall the food is good - don't get me wrong. And the handmade pasta does shine. But is it that much better than what I can make at home for 1/4 the price? Probably not. My biggest complaint is that there is only one type of pasta per day. Every experienced home cook knows that the choice of pasta matters; some sauces are better suited to a long thin noodle, others better for something like a farfalle or orichette. I'd be happier being told what pasta to order with what sauce than being forced to have one kind of pasta no matter what sauce. They should make at least three kinds of pasta a day, and recommend which pasta goes best with each sauce. Long overdue visit back to Park Slope and my first stop was Pasta Louise. An elevated experience: service and staff were collectively some of the best I've seen. The warm welcome at the door, thoughtful attention at the bar. The beautiful (and from what I understand an endearingly and personally inspired) decor. The highly attentive table service. And then, there was of course the food. Enjoyed a skillfully prepared martini to start the night followed by a spritz. Warmed up with Grandma's Meatballs (savory and bathing in delicious red sauce and ricotta), Whipped Ricotta (like eating a cloud with a hit a fennel), and Sunshine Citrus Salad (devoured this one, tasted like summer with a hit of spice). Then came the pasta! While acknowledging tastes are subjective - I absolutely loved the pasta and sauces. The Limone was refreshingly zesty and just lit up my taste buds. The Braised Short Ribs had a hearty flavor with numerous, delicious surprise elements (pesto, pickled radish, hit of citrus). The special Jumbo Lump Crab with Roasted Corn, Cherry Tomatoes - YUM! The Cacio E Pepe, my personal favorite, was peppery, cheesy, and sprinkled with some prosciutto. Needless to say I ate well above my weight class and had no room for dessert, but I will manage myself better next time and leave some room. Would definitely recommend! read more

I keep trying to give this spot a chance - it's so lovely inside but really the ambience is really all that I got out of it. I tried another pasta - not sure why cold ricotta is on a hot pasta ? The pasta sauce was room temperature really bland. Tried the cannellini beans hoping that there would be a change - but the beans aren't cooked and are dry and hard. Not roasted! The waitstaff was nice but chaotic. I had no idea who to ask for help or another item. I think maybe five people came to ask for my order or check in. The Cesar salad is so small and flavorless. No way you can taste the anchovies and I had several brown lettuce leaves! There are some really basic things that aren't working. When you let the waitstaff know they just say "ok" - not "I'm sorry to hear that". Brown lettuce leaves? Uncooked beans? This was my third attempt. I just LOVE the interior design - it's really transporting. But I will go next time and just not order the food. Maybe a cocktail only. Unfortunately I think this place is riding on hype but when you actually ask people if they liked their meal enough to go back, almost no one I have met says yes and many others have the same issues - the sauces aren't that deeply flavored, or warm when served, brown lettuce, small salad portions, hard beans. Let's start with the good news. The staff was engaging, from the bartender Kate to our waiter Logan and everyone we encountered was courteous . That's all folks! The pasta was thick and gummy. The cacio e pepe was swimming ( in the deep end ) in oil. The pepper sauce was as thick as a mac and cheese sauce, not what I would have expected. Thick, overly salted and unpleasant. Dessert, oh my. The fudgy brownie was a cookie like consistency, the banana bread was dry and the chocolate pudding made jello look like a refined mousse. I'm sorry, NOT WORTH THE WAIT. PS, I cannot leave without mentioning the Caesar salad. It was advertised, parenthically, to have anchovy. Nope, not a hint of anchovy. This undoubtedly will please some. These are very nice people with a below average product. There are so many restaurants in Park Slope serving terrific Pasta, unfortunately Pasta Louise isn't one of them. read more
