In short, it was cold af last night but I would die for that lasagna. My friends and I dined at Pasta Louise on Saturday night for my birthday. It had just stormed and it was like 20 degrees outside with some hefty gusts. The heated outdoor dining situation leaves a lot to be desired, especially in the winter. It is very open and the heat lamps are not the best. I would have definitely gone with the "enclosed" option. They're moving locations soon, so I assume this will change. In any event, the service was spectacular and we made do. We ordered two rounds of the delicious mulled wine [$12]. The mug was warm. Honestly, that's all that really mattered. The wine was fruity [but not overly] and the spices were cozy, like a blanket in front of a fireplace on Christmas. We also shared two plates of the whipped ricotta on focaccia [$7.50]. SO TASTY. The focaccia was warm and crispy - maybe it had a tad too many flakes of salt, but that's really being nit picky. The whipped ricotta though, it looked like marshmallow. It was insane. We loved the fennel oil. It was so good. I could have eaten a whole serving by myself. BUT I'm glad I didn't because I ordered the lasagna [$17, add .75 for breadcrumbs] which I needed all the room for. This may be an exaggeration, but it may not be, when I say, this might be the best lasagna I've had in my life. It is huge [that's what she said]. All the layers, the oozing cheese, the crunch from the breadcrumbs, the pops of basil. It was just perfection. My favorite: some spots of cheese on the bottom got extra melty and baked on its own into a glob of cheese. *drool* Lastly, the dessert. I ordered the banana bread sundae [caramel drizzle!] [$7] and subbed out the vanilla ice cream for meyer lemon [a special of the night]. I was shivering at the end but it was bomb and totally worth it. The banana bread was crispy and the meyer lemon was just lemony enough without tasting like perfume. And well, caramel drizzle is the best. Good size too. I can't say how much I appreciated the service and everyone working outside in the freezing cold. The server added a candle to my sundae and brought me a brownie to go. This was truly an outstanding experience and I can't wait to come back when it's warm again [so maybe tomorrow...]. This was my first time at Pasta Louise but not my dinner companion's so I can't take credit for "finding" this place! I must begin by writing that I was very impressed with the food, atmosphere and service (thank you Jaden and the rest of the service team for your friendliness and efficiency)! The restaurant is small and the menu is limited but if you know that going in, you won't be disappointed. They only have one bathroom so depending on the size of your prostate be prepared! :-). One nice touch was the live music which I am sure is enjoyed more by the diners than the folks who live in the apartments above the restaurant. We began with their homemade sea salt and rosemary garlic focaccia. The sea salt was a bit strong for my liking and I'd have preferred garlic focaccia without rosemary but they were fresh and served as advertised! Garlic, olive oil and tomato pasta is a simple dish which makes it more challenging to be exceptional but here the kitchen succeeded by creating a wonderful blend where no flavor drowned out the others. We also ordered a tasty spicy red pesto pasta to which I added extra hot peppers (I know they overwhelm all the other flavors but that's me!). The homemade pasta by the way is delicious! For dessert we split a banana bread, caramel (homemade) ice cream sundae which was the perfect ending for a wonderful dinner. I've been here 3 times so far and it's always a great experience!! Something unique is that there is only one shape of pasta per day - fresh and handmade. But you get to choose your sauce and toppings. Most recently, I ordered the Cacio e Pepe topped additionally with burrata, and my boyfriend ordered the Cauliflower and Kale Pesto. So bomb!! I feel like good Italian pasta doesn't need extra garnishes and extraordinary flavors in order to be great. The Cacio e Pepe sauce combined with the fresh pasta is heaven in your mouth. I'm also a huge fan of cheese so I always opt for burrata on top of my pasta. My boyfriend raved about his pesto pasta I definitely agree with him - it was the best pesto sauce I've ever tasted. Service is always great as the staff is extremely friendly and always seems to have a smile on their faces. They've very attentive and will occasionally check up on your table to make sure everything is okay. One complaint I do have is that although they have outdoor dining space that is "enclosed," it's still pretty cold even with heat lamps. Do not sleep on Pasta Louise. When you want a bowl of warm comforting fresh pasta that does not break the bank, this is your spot. Their menu is simple, you pick which sauce you want and they add to their one freshly made shape of the day. The whipped ricotta toast is delicious. For pastas, my boyfriend and I ordered their special mushroom cream and one spicy red pesto. Normally the shrooms always win for me but I fell in love the with spicy red pesto. Add breadcrumbs and ask for extra Calabrian chili oil on the side if you want more of a kick. It's a creamy, spicy, dream. Uh just typing about it making me happy and hungry. Can't wait to come back and try some other sauces (and the red pesto again), some salads, and for lunch for their sandwiches. Come here for a casual date night or family dinner. After my previous 3 star review the owner very graciously reached out and encouraged me to make dinner reservations to give them another try. I had been planning on returning anyway, but after such a kind response from the owner, I was really looking forward to going back. After having dinner there last night, they definitely earned a 4th star. Extra credit for the spotless clean and toasty warm baby friendly bathroom with changing table. Once again they have amazing service! The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu items and made excellent suggestions like getting an extra side of sauce. The meatball appetizer was delicious! I wanted to swim in that sauce with the whipped ricotta cheese, my goodness!! We got the spicy tomato pesto which was very good, made even better with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. Of course I got Lasagna! lol It's made Caprese style which is not like the meat and saucy lasagna commonly seen. It was very good and surprisingly meat free! It's super hearty so you don't miss the meat at all. Although I still prefer the meat and sauce lasagna, I'm glad I tried this. My little one got pasta and tomato sauce which was ok; she added a ton of parm cheese and honestly I must agree that it needed it. The other standout was the roasted banana bread!! It was so damn delicious!! No caramel sauce or anything, just plain banana bread is the way to go. It would've been even better if they had warmed it up for us, we also got a brownie that would've benefited from being warmed, but I'll be sure to ask next time. My wife and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. They had a 40 minute wait, so we put our name on the list. The wait time was spot on. They don't have any indoor seating - only outdoors but it's all pretty much covered to protect guests from inclement weather. We started with whipped ricotta on focaccia. It's light dish and makes for a nice starter. The shtick here is that they make one style of fresh pasta every day and thar pasta is used in the dishes. For our main courses, my wife ordered the meatball sauce dish while I had one of their specials - crab with shishito peppers and corn. Both were delicious but I preferred the crab dish. I had it with some of their local burrata which made for a great pairing. For dessert, we shared vanilla and grape swirl ice cream. The grape was a subdued flavorful, but the ice cream was very rich and creamy. We paired it with some of the house made banana bread. Ice cream went very well with the banana bread. Also the outdoor space is dog friendly (I brought my dog there!). I would recommend the whipped ricotta - it was very nice and creamy and pairs really well with the toast they had. The pasta.. ugh.. I honestly need to go back and eat there again because I was lucky enough to experience the same fresh pasta shape 2 times in a row haha. Had the summer pasta salad with rigatoni, corn, squash, garlic croutons and tomatoes which we loved although a bit heavier than expected. I'm so obsessed with this place! To be fair I've only been a handful of times because the commute is quite a trek for me, but I don't care... They have the bounciest, freshest, most beautiful pasta and their sauces are incredible. They had this one special in the summer that had rock shrimp, shishito peppers, and corn and my partner and I couldn't stop thinking about it and still do to this day - it's THAT good. They can be light on flavor. Cacio e Pepe is not authentic and therefore not the best. Feels like they put flour in instead of using pasta water. Not sure about that though. The lasagna was also weird. It is sauceless which I usually like but seemed like they didn't use any ricotta and the mozzarella ended up just gluing all the pasta sheets together. Seeing as this is Park Slope's hottest new pandemic joint, I'd been wanting to try it out for quite some time. Finally, and just in time for restaurant week, I found myself in a financially stable enough place to spring for it. I am happy to report that Pasta Louise is a stand out and solid addition in a neighborhood that's already fairly saturated with Italian food. With the ability to order ala carte, in take-home DIY kits (just boil the pasta and add the sauce) or as individual homemade ingredients (you can buy fresh pasta or a tub of sauce), it's certainly a cool and uniquely flexible take on ordering dinner. With a couple of mouthes to feed, I ordered one of their take home meal kits, which included a pound of pasta, sauce, focaccia and a bottle of wine. I can happily report that the fresh pasta was lovely and the homemade sauce was surprisingly above average. We got the kale and cauliflower pesto which was brilliantly flavorful -- a nice nutty quality and a refreshingly basil-free (or at least less basil forward) take on your typical pesto. The wine was also surprisingly great, a memorable sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. I also sprung for a caesar salad, which was no-frills but fine (if nothing else, well priced at $11). Gotta admit though I felt a bit lackluster about the bread. There's enough pasta to feed four but only comes with two squares... its doable but a bit thin. (But then again this is the kinda place that charges 75¢ for extra cheese, so... set your expectations. Which like, I totally get -- rent is high, there's a pandemic, and good cheese is not free.) Excited to come back here and try the rest of the menu... and dine in one day when there's not a pandemic. We held a surprise engagement party for my brother and now future SIL here and could not have chosen a better place. Julie, the event coordinator at Pasta Louise knew every detail to ask and made sure I knew exactly what to expect ( her response time to emails is next level). Staff? Ordered dinner at Pasta Louise on Saturday night. Nothing about our visit would encourage a second visit. For a speciality shop all the ingredients, from pasta to sauce to extras, were disappointing. Quality: Pasta Louise is definitely more of a pasta supply shop than a restaurant, though they do offer some limited options for dine-in guests. We started with a Bread Plate, which were a few pieces of Rosemary Focaccia. It was okay but needed a side of sauce or cheese. The Pasta of the Day was Radiatori, which was too heavy for me. We ordered one bowl of it with Cacio E Pepe, Breadcrumbs, and Ricotta and another with Basil Pesto, Crispy Spicy Prosciutto, and Burrata. The first bowl was better, but neither impressed. The sauces were over-applied, leaving the bowls as almost a soup. The Burrata was missing the creamy stracciatella inside, a needed component to spread across the pasta. The flavors just weren't there, and they needed to be for the price tag. Quantity: Heavy pasta makes the bowls quite filling. Value: $4 for Lemonade. $5 for Bread Plate. $14-$19 for Pasta and Sauce. $1-$4 for Add-Ons. Ambiance: Pasta Louise is located in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn. They have a small storefront with two picnic tables out front and a covered outdoor structure on the side. We got the Brussel sprouts to start, I would say the balsamic is more of a vinaigrette over a glaze, a glaze would have been better. Their sauce has an interesting consistency...it is almost like cheese has been infused with the rest of the sauce, so every bite comes with a thick goo. They have a great selection of add-ins, but I feel like it really bumps the price to a point where it just isn't worth it. Their most popular add-on is the spicy prosciutto, which I found to be a bit too salty. We both felt that our last experience at the old space was different from the others. It tasted like they changed the recipe or ingredients on the caccio e pepe--and not for the better. Unfortunately, that change seems to have followed them to the new location, which we tried for the first time last night. The service, which has always been superlative, was a little rocky. Excellent fresh pasta + cool park slope ambiance -- this is a winner pasta dinner! We made a reserveration for 4 a couple days ahead for 8pm on a Wednesday night. It's good we did because this place was poppin. We each picked our sauce and eagerly awaited our dishes. We shared the whipped ricotta focaccia appetizer- delicious. Comes with 2 pieces fyi. I have no idea what the noodle shape was that night (they serve one type to everyone each night) but it was delicious and cooked to Al dente perfection. Three of us got the red pesto and we loved it. I added crispy cannelloni beans, which I loved; and m breadcrumbs, which I found a bit bland and I'd skip next time. One of us got the bolognese which he enjoyed too. We shared the banana bread crumbs with icee cream for dessert. Chunks of soft banana bread plus soft serve made an excellent combo. It also looked like they have a fridge inside the restaurant where they might sell pastas and sauces to take home- I definitely want to check that out next time. We were seated at the two-person counter, overlooking part of the enclosed outdoor seating area, where we were promptly served water and then greeted by our server. The restaurant only offers the chef's choice of the day pasta selection, which can then be paired to any one of its handful of sauce offerings. I sadly forget the name of the pasta that evening, but it was a short, twisted pasta which offered just the right amount of density and softness. We ordered whipped riccota on foccacia as an appetizer, which was light and delicious. For entrees, we ordered the meatball sauce, which consisted of 3 miniature meatballs in a red sauce with diced tomatoes, along with a cream sauce, to which spicy prosciutto was added. This sauce was a generous coating to the pasta and had just the right amount of spice without taking away from the dish. The beer menu only had 3 or 4 offerings, but thankfully one of them was a local offering by Other Half Brewing (Green City IPA). For dessert, chocolate mint soft serve ice cream with roasted peanuts was had. It was also very good. Service was attentive, informed, courteous, and polite. I have been ordering from Pasta Louise for 3+ years and my one major gripe is that they significantly cut down their portion sizes but kept the same high prices. The staff wow just wow what an amazing group of people that being the place all together! The energy was exactly what I needed ! I went twice in two days ! The hostess was the most friendly and each server was beyond. Whatever they are doing over there they have it right ! Super lgbtq safe and the cocktails and food was top notch and cozy! I wrote this review in May and wanted to sleep on it before posting, then forgot. I still think 3 stars is a generous and fair review... I'm going to be fair because I understand the overwhelming consensus is this place is THE spot right now. But it is SERIOUSLY overrated. Like, not bad, but 100% not worth the hype or price. We walked up 3 times over the past month and were not able to get a table so finally made a reservation. Positives were the service and quality of the pasta itself. It's fresh pasta, it's good. That's about where the positives end. The actual menu is baffling to me. Have you ever heard of Vapiano's? This is basically that. DIYpasta. You get the shape of the day plus 5 sauces to choose from. And then you choose...toppings? If I'm going out to dinner for pasta, which I cook often and very well at home, I want it to surpass what I can produce. I want a chef to construct a well balanced, delicious dish. I do not want to be asked to build my own at my own risk of disappointment. Lazy style of eatery for the price point. read more

We had a very unpleasant time here unfortunately. We stopped in to use the restroom after offering to buy an item from this establishment. As we stood in line to wait the manager (older white man) demanded we buy something before we use the restroom right before asking us to leave. His tone was completely unnecessary especially after we already offered to buy something from this restaurant and it was communicated to the staff. *I couldn't help but notice that this restaurant located in Brooklyn had no Black people other than myself so I would also encourage this restaurant to look into ways they can be inclusive and inviting to their surrounding community* read more

You know when you dine out, and days afterwards you can't stop thinking about that place? Pasta Louise is one of those for me. We first encountered Pasta Louise when we were apartment hunting last summer. I won't pretend that the storefront decor wasn't an eyesore in an otherwise quaint neighborhood. I mean, it's the type of decor that you would find in Little Italy, the kind that screams tourist trap. Oh, how misleading first impressions can be... After seeing it pop up on Google Maps as "top rated," we decided to give it a try. Once the waiter explained that the chef chooses a pasta shape each day and some of them are pretty funky, I immediately understood why there were all these different pasta shapes adorning the storefront sign. It's part of the unique charm of this place. That day, it was this rooster-shaped pasta called "Creste di Gallo" (literally "rooster's crest"). It's design-your-own bowl where you can choose a sauce (roasted tomato sauce, cacio e pepe, garlic and olive oil, and pesto) and any add-ons with the pasta of the day. And damn, do they know how to whip up a good pasta. It was probably one of the most satisfying bowls of hot carbs I had in a long while. On a subsequent visit, I split the focaccia with homemade whipped ricotta. It was SUPERB. Now whenever I come here, I'm going to be getting ricotta on everything. EVERYTHING.
