Fresh pasta to take home was quite good. Loved the chewy texture and easy too cook. Instruction says 2/3 mins but found it needed a 5 mins cook time. I make fresh pasta for large dinner parties but if cooking for two this is a very good substitute. I wish they had used pépitas for their green pesto instead of sunflower and put expiration or freeze by date. I bought three containers of pasta and one went bad a few days later. read more

Moved in on the block a few months ago and can't imagine our lives without it! While the full service restaurant is amazing, the cafe is definitely our favorite for quick take-out or eating outside. Small plates are a great size, sometimes I just get a order of meatballs and the whipped ricotta as a meal. The sandwiches are delicious- especially the prosciutto or when there's a special on the fresh focaccia. As far as pastas, we've tried: spicy mac n cheese, limon (special), red pesto, cacio e pepe, and garlic+oo+tomatoes (add beans like they suggest). They are all delicious. One day we'll try more options from the menu, but it's impossible for me to even think about one of those without ordering. Overall the pasta was great, but I wish the servicing size was a bit bigger. The Burrata with Sicilian Olive Oil and Focaccia was not anything special, but my friend said it was much better last time. For dessert I had the Snickers Sundae. I've been to Pasta Louise twice now with groups, and have left super happy both times. The food is simple, unpretentious, and delicious. I live two blocks away and it's always busy, so making a reservation, sometimes up to a week ahead for dinner, is a good idea. My favorites have been the Cacio e Pepe with prosciutto and bread crumbs added, the burrata with olive oil and focaccia bread, and the vodka sauce pasta special with burrata. The dishes aren't huge, so you don't feel stuffed afterwards, and it's fun to share. Order some wine, finish with some homemade ice cream, and then go for a walk in Prospect Park. Posted this review earlier in the week but realized folks are posting interchangeably about the cafe and restaurant so I thought I would add my perspective and share my review here.... Honestly, we want to like this place but it's just not worth it. With terre and piccoli in the area, there are just better pasta options and it's not even close. The only thing that's worth mentioning are the meatballs. They are better than anything else on the menu and that includes the pasta. Other than that, not sure there's much here. Cacio Pepe, listed as their most popular, is a soupy cheesy mess. In fact most of the pasta dishes are over sauced and pasta can at times be crunchy, and no, it's not Al Dente. We had the beans once as an add on and I don't even know how to explain the texture. Maybe Chewy but yet not quite tender. It was like chewing on a soggy popcorn kernel. It's just bad cooking. The focaccia is not focaccia. A good focaccia, to me, should have a crisp, salty crust and a light, but slightly chewy texture. This stuff is thick and crumbles when you eat it. Not sure what to call it but maybe you can say it's a bread product and leave it at that. Or maybe we can say it's cornbread without the corn. Whatever you want to call it, but please don't call it focaccia. I hate to say it but the folks that rave about this place have clearly not dined at anything resembling a quality Italian restaurant. We live in NYC where Italian restaurants are some of our greatest gifts to the culinary world and this is the place you're going to stand behind? This place is closer to the Olive Garden than a classic nyc Italian restaurant. Everything about this place screams chain restaurant from the logo, to the rotating pasta shapes and mix and match sauces, and the interior design. Pasta Louise is just an epic failure. The first time I went here, I had the cacio Pepe and it was so good - the pasta was fresh and flavorful, not too heavy. On par with pasta I've had in Italy. However I think with the rise in popularity and mass marketing (which I'm happy about! - it's well deserved) the food isn't exactly 100% what it used to be when it first opened but still really good, maybe 80-90%! Outrageously delicious, fun, cozy, comfortable! This is the GO-TO place my wife and I bring our family when they are visiting, and we order from them at least once-a-week. I know, I know, it's pasta--how impressive can it be? I PROMISE it will consistently knock your socks off. My wife likes the red sauce (organic roasted tomato sauce) with Calabrian Chilies, arugula, and (sometimes) burrata. I typically go for the meatballs with Calabrian chilies, breadcrumbs, and (sometimes) burrata. Their olives and their whipped ricotta with fennel oil on focaccia are also awesome. Came here on a Saturday evening with a friend and was truly blown away. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and the ricotta toast. Both were delicious, but I was especially into the awesome flavor of the salad and the delicious pickled red onions. Also, the ricotta on the toast just tastes so fresh and flawless. The pasta of the night was a "star-shaped ziti" (in honor of the Fourth of July, and tbh this is the only thing I've ever liked about the Fourth of July). It really is just GREAT PASTA. I got the summer special (pasta, corn, veggies) with added Calabrian chilis, ricotta, and prosciutto (I think I added too many things, the chilis are quite oily and sort of take away from the rest of the dish but I have no regrets); my friend got pasta with meatballs. Both were so stellar and had such incredible depth of flavor! The pasta was cooked to perfection. I was so obsessed with my dish and the amazing flavor of the corn/sauce/delicious tube pasta. The atmosphere & vibes of the restaurant were also just lovely and summery, and our waiter was so nice!! He was really friendly and made the whole dining experience super welcoming. This place will not make it another year. We asked the wait staff to make suggestions on the food and the portions were tiny. We had to order extra .. how does the staff bring two tiny appetizers for several people? They put burrata on every pasta .... they all taste the same. While I'm leaving this review now, I last ate here in 2022. Since then, they opened a second location, and I have to review the original spot because, frankly, I don't understand the hype. Looking at the other 1 and 2 star reviews, I'm not alone, which is reassuring! My partner and I ate here, expecting a nice regular pasta-eating time. Instead we got ok pasta, but it's confusing that they provide limited sauce options--don't they know that the shape is meant to change with the sauces? Do they know any person of Italian descent whatsoever (or sought to actually learn what they are doing), or are they just using pasta as a stupid prop? Portions were on the small side for pasta, and it's not like we were looking for huge amounts; just that they were a bit small. And expensive by far for what it is. This could have been made up for by a really delicious sauce, but it wasn't very well seasoned or put together. It tasted like it came from a grocery store commercial jar. They may have changed this by now, but on the menu they had gelato listed--I was excited to get lemon gelato, to find out that it was actually soft serve ice cream??? With lemon flavoring?? This is not gelato, folks. That is a specific thing. Then, at the cafe location, we were treated kind of rudely and ignored for a super long time, and the staff seemed really underprepared; possibly just very new to serving (my partner and I have both worked in service for a long time in the past). We get people can get busy and usually wouldn't be bothered, but it became a bit much. This was now in the past, so may not apply to the current waitstaff. The name is cute, and they know how to decorate. But this is not the only place in the area that makes pasta on site and there are so many options for great Italian food. Giovanni's down the road does fresh pasta, for one, and while it and some other places serving good pasta doesn't have a cutesy name and aesthetic, we'll take actually good Italian over whatever gross trendy hot mess this was. read more

Will never go back again. Went with my Mother in Law, ordered and paid. Im waiting for my change (which was .30 cents). The cashier looks up at me asked me if I wanted my receipt. In my whole 55 years of life never had an establishment not give me my change, even if it's .01. I get the receipt, we sit outside drinking our coffee, waiting for the food. Some man ( looks like a manager) who works there comes to us and asks if we're just having coffee.. I told him we're waiting on food and showed him my receipt. Five full stars! Quick story: I had an issue ordering delivery and ended up needing to cancel right after pressing submit on the order. DoorDash wasn't helpful in issuing my refund at all, and Pasta Louise not only refunded my meal but also the fees and tip that only DoorDash received. The manager, Dan, was so kind and helpful on the phone that I decided to go and pick up dinner from there myself the following night. They were projecting Ratatouille on the side of the building for the outdoor diners with speakers alongside the heaters, which I found very charming. I got to meet Dan in person briefly when I grabbed my food and he was just as kind - he even gave me a complimentary slice of "the best banana bread you will ever have" for my trouble (he was right honestly, I don't even like banana bread and I loved it). Okay, that leads me into to the food....incredible. I got the cacio e pepe with spicy prosciutto and my roommate got the spicy red pesto. We both could not stop raving about our dishes. The cacio e pepe would have been fine on its own but the prosciutto takes it to another level. It is genuinely spicy though, so beware. We will definitely be going back! Upon leaving Pasta Louise my boyfriend and I turned to each other and in unison declared "this is our new go-to!" We arrived for our first true date night since quarantine began and had high hopes for Pasta Louise having seen it in passing and hearing nothing but raves! They did not disappoint! The service was speedy + spot on. The servers and owner immediately greeted us warmly and were so attentive for our entire meal. For starters we ordered the fennel + arugula salad, along with the meatballs. Both dishes were the perfect warm up to our meal and made us very excited for what was to follow. We split the lasagna (beyond gorgeous - those layers!) and cacio e pepe with spicy prosciutto crisps! YUM, YUM, YUM! For desert we topped it all off with a mint affogato, we enjoyed the walk room full with such a delicious meal and BIG smiles.
