There's nothing I love more than coming across an only-in-NYC gem of a place, found on a non-descript block in the heart of Midtown. The first thing that caught my eye was the somewhat....er....'dated' window display. I thought 'wow, this looks like a very authentic, old-school NYC pharmacy'. So I popped in. Wow, is this place massive...in fact, I'd say it's the largest old-school pharmacy I think I've ever come across, in NYC. From what I've read, elsewhere, apparently this place is most noted for men who are into 'wet shaving', or traditional shaving with a brush, shaving creme, etc. They had tons of shaving brushes, blades, etc I also saw an aisle with all kinds of high-end hair care products, as well as mid-range...think brands like Klorane, KMS, etc Another section had old-school 'Goody' hair products... elastics, barrettes, etc. High quality nail care tools (files, clippers, etc.) from Japan. Hair color.... hair brushes, nail brushes....soaps, etc. They even had an aisle with cereals, canned foods, etc. If you are in the area near to the Empire State Bldg., I HIGHLY recommend you check this place out! read more

Code does not work. I reach out to the company via CHAT & Email send photo of the offer they sent only to be told by person who is Customer Service the DEAL is only on $100.00 Minimum Order. Procede with caution with online sales, I had an incomplete delivery, and received no response or credit. I ordered several items, one item was not in the delivery package. But my rave is for Telly and the Pharmacist in the back. They have such integrity about seeing that you get what you need, even it gets complicated as it did for me today. Fast forward to seven months later, I return to New York City for a brief visit to buy some items. Things have changed noticeably, but there are still a wide array of choice to choose from like I'm a child in a candy shop. I proceed to buy Pedro Fiasco Barbershop Shave Cream and some more rice water serum by Ariana and Evans, along with two goat milk and cupuaçu butter body soaps by Barrister & Mann, a pack of cough drops by Fisherman's Friend that I use when I have a sore throat at work. I also bought a value sized face wash by CeraVe that contain niacinamide and salicylic acid. Then, I proceed to pay the cashier for the items and left for lunch afterwards. Known for the huge shaving product varieties, Pasteurs also have a whole lot of items from deodorants and hair products to bath products and dental products, etc. (some national, some imported, and some artisan). Back at home, I realized that the shave soap I bought works best by lathering in a bowl before applying on the face as opposed to directly face lather alone and paired with a DE blade, works well. read more

They have just about everything and you can take your time choosing what you want, because there are a lot of choices to got through. It's not a big space but I like the neighborhood vibe. If you can't find a health and beauty aid product here, you don't need it. The place specializes in shaving products, some of which are found only in this store in the whole country. You can literally get all nail products here, all kinds of brands, even ones you've never heard of. The shaving cream selection, as aforementioned, is the word "wowzers." The shampoo, conditioner and hair product selection are the word "super." Every other product you could ever need is found in surplus in the store. The store is very, very narrow, and this location is organized in the exact way that the other location is organized. The pharmacy is located in the back, the cashier is located at the front, and everything else is organized by product type in between. I have an Rx that is a special compound & last time I needed to have it filled, on a Saturday, they couldn't fill it because the compounding pharmacist does not work on the weekends (kind of a bummer for a pharmacy that I come to specifically for custom compounded Rxs) but today (also a Saturday, the only day I seem to have time to run these errands!) the regular pharmacist did me a huge favor (& I didn't ask; I just assumed I'd have to wait until Monday so was surprised to get the text my Rx was ready for pick up!) & she called to get the "recipe" for my Rx & made sure I got it! I've shopped at and loved both stores when visiting NY City for years, but don't believe their online product reviews. Bought my first DE razor (Merkur) and second (Jagger) there, brushes, and a lot of blades and jars and tubes of shaving cream. With travel not part of my immediate plan was happy to see I could order on line, and decided to try the RazoRock Baby Smooth aluminum razor and Big Bruce artificial fiber brush. Those Spanish women in the back are so ghetto, and it's a huge turn off shopping in the store lately. They are so loud, you can hear them at the front register. They yell, curse, fight, and gossip. Today, I heard them paging for Selena to answer the phone and that she had a call waiting "for the third time" with such a hateful attitude. Then they commented how smoothly or nice everything runs in the back of the store vs the front. You should know that it's really the other way around as far as the customers are concerned. Bottom line is, Leon, I hope you are reading this. You have a great business, but those ghetto hood rats in the back counter are ruining it. You should have Selena train them on how to treat customers, and to save their personal conversations for the stoops in East Harlem, and not force customers to hear their trash talk. read more

This is perhaps the best kept secret for shaving. Unlike branded retailers this pharmacy has an excellent collection of beard oils, beard soaps, razor blades and shavers. My area is Brooklyn was hard to find safety razors blades but I was blessed to find this spot on 34th St. I highly recommend it if you're a man in love with your beard. read more

This place has a variety of everything: beard products, shaving materials, barber paraphernalia, men's soaps. Seriously, you can get your fix here if you are a man who is into his grooming (as you should be). I've never seen a place with this variety of quality men's products. This place smells really good due to the large selection of fragrant milled soap they have on display especially in the huge men shaving products area. I was amazed and the soap and probably spent too much time browsing and sniffing many bars of soap - from the bay rum men's shaving and shampoo soap bars to floral and clean linen scents of soaps from Italy and France. My default shaving cream (as anyone who has read my review could tell you) is from Nancy Boy, a shop in San Francisco. When I run out of this, as I sometimes do, I freak out. Seeing as though the only way for me to get it here in NY is by ordering it online. I can do that, but I need something to tide me over in the meantime. I (as you can probably guess) am a shavegeek. I have a double-edged safety razor (no, not a cut-throat), a shaving brush (for developing that beautiful lather), and a nice bowl (the locale for the aforementioned lather development). All I need to add to this is a good shave cream. When I can't have my Nancy Boy Shave Cream, I reach for the Taylors of Old Bond Street - and the best (and cheapest) place to get that is here at Pasteur's. They have an AMAZING selection of shaving products from all over the place, both your standard commercial stuff, your high-end American stuff, and your high-end international stuff. Heck, they even sell brushes there! The place is tiny, but they PACK it in there. They have everything you could think of needing from a nice pharmacy - I think they even have toothbrushes from Italy if what I overheard one woman saying was true... Shavegeeks rejoice! This place is a shavers paradise. stopped by again on my lunch break. all the major products - aftershaves, soaps, creams, even ARKO!! and samples and test bottles of great colognes and aftershaves before you drop $40 on that bottle or $35 on that Trumpers soap. I buy all my bath & shaving products here and just like walking into a place and being able to smell what I buy as opposed to shopping online. Also, they sell top of the line shaving brushes and starter brushes and single packs of blades (5 or 10). Guys, Gents, all major products are sold here for mens personal care. British and German products and jack black as well. awesome place, superb service (I speak spanish and the mexican guys helped me immensely), great experience. They carry practically full lines of Geo. F. Trumper's, Truefitt & Hill and Taylor of Old Bond St. (the "TTT" of Shaving). They also carry D.R. Harris, Pinaud-Clubman, Brut, Neutrogena, Zirh, Nickel and various other quality shaving products. The store itself is very narrow, so be prepared to get pummeled over by people who run to the back of the store where the actual pharmacist is located. Otherwise, Pasteur has an extensive product line of beauty, shave, skin and haircare products. Its also nice to shop at an independently owned place like this instead of the Duane-Reade across the street! Some of the imported products from Western Europe are impressively marked up, and you could find most of them online for half the price...but they gotta pay the rent, people! read more

I was a patron of the UES location for many years ao when i realized there is one by my new job i got super excited. I needed to pick up some beard supplies for a friends bday last week. Everything i wanted to buy has been opened. I was told by an employee that men come in and smell everything and its not an issue to buy an open item. Maybe, but not when its a birthday gift. I struggled for almost an hour to pick out a complete set of 3 items where nothing would be open. They carry domestic as well as international items and the prices range from inexpensive to expensive depending upon what particular item you are buying. I am not one who complains about prices in Manhattan, but I do enjoy a good deal and they usually offer it on just about all they sell. This is the only place left in the United States to buy Coate's shaving cream. Sure the price is up $10 from the last you bought it (have you seen the exchange rate to the Pound Sterling recently?), and you can argue it is reformulated (it likely is), but you cannot argue that no one else has it.
