We had high hopes for this restaurant. Service and atmosphere: The restaurant is located in a beautiful Pearl district and looks very elegant both outside and inside. Clean, organised and modern. Service was what ruined the experience for us. Unfortunately, our waiter wasn't attentive at all. We couldn't order additional drinks or food items because the waiter didn't come back to our table. We had to ask another waiter for a check. At the end our waiter apologised but the atmosphere was ruined. Food and drinks: Food we ordered was good except for a chicken breast which was dry. The collard greens were very well seasoned and tasted great. Gumbo was served on a hot plate, however, the food temperature was on a cooler side. Good flavour and addition of alligator meat was a surprise. Tuna tartare was pretty good. The chicharrón overpowered the overall taste in our options. The drink menu is excellent. Pricing: $$/$ - not overpriced for two year straight Michelin Bib Gourmand recognised restaurant.

Had the opportunity to have a meal in their Silo seating area. Awesome ambiance and very cool to sit in such a historic space. Family-style meal for our event, but this only made the interaction that much better. Their famous fried chicken was fab (probably that pickle brine) and the tenderloin melted in my mouth. Leave room for the bread pudding or take it to go. Finally, and most importantly to me, their beer offering is top notch. Their in house brews were delicious and paired well with the meal. Emily was a fantastic server and knowledgeable about the food, drinks, the restaurant, and the historic area of the Pearl. She made the meal even more enjoyable than it already was.

We had a fantastic birthday lunch at Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery. This ended up being the perfect final stop on my San Antonio birthday restaurant tour. Everything came out quickly, the service was smooth, and the whole menu felt approachable. I enjoyed the crawfish roll, which is a really nice alternative to the crab roll. Almost every time I see crawfish that's been peeled be someone else on a menu, I get pretty excited. Anyway, it served with the made-in-house hot sauce mixed with the drawn butter. Yummy. The fries were especially good, and dessert really surprised us. The carrot cake is very mild on the spice side, which actually let the textures shine, especially the brittle on top. It was incredibly light, crunchy, and honestly the best part of the dessert. We also appreciated how efficient everything was. We had a relaxed lunch, never felt rushed, and still managed to be in and out within about an hour and a half. Overall, a great experience and a great choice to eat here based on the efficiency and menu options for the pickier people in our group,

Walked in on Sunday for brunch and got really lucky with seating at the chefs table. I'm visiting from out of state so I was incredibly surprised by the variety on the menu and how flavorful everything seemed. The service was amazing- the ambience of this place is really cool. I love the way it's designed and just the vibe wasn't too loud or too quiet and it still felt personable, even though the place was quite packed. For the food, I wanted to order something that I couldn't usually find at other places, so we did the seafood Benedict (THIS WAS SO GOOD! the egg was made perfectly with the seafood mashup.. I would go back & get this every weekend if I could) I didn't get a photo of this because it was gone in .5 seconds We also ordered Bourbon butter chicken biscuit (the hot honey on here was a great touch), the 3 sister oysters and a side salad. Everything was AMAZING. I will definitely be coming back my next time visiting San Antonio. ** also a little side note.. their menu is constantly changing so what we ordered might not be available next time

Came here for drinks and dinner while visiting SA on a work trip. The atmosphere and decor is beautiful and historic. It's inside of a very old brewery. The Hotel Emma next door has a very similar vibe and the decor is just stunning. We had made a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. Our table had biscuits and deviled eggs as an appetizer which were both fabulous. The bacon jam on the eggs was so flavorful. I had the pressure fried chicken for my entree and it did not disappoint. It is probably the best fried chicken I've ever had. The sides are served family style; we had crab Mac n cheese, the carrots (SO UNDERRATED) and the whipped mash potatoes. I'm still thinking about this meal 3 days later. I will be back next time I'm in town!

We were really looking forward to our meal here, but unfortunately were pretty disappointed. First off it was full inside so we were seated outside (which was fairly busy as well), but they put us at the first table just outside the door. They had a cute patio with soft lighting and heaters (which granted, they hadn't turned on yet) and I was hoping they would seat us there, but instead our spot was far away and felt a little isolated. I was tempted to ask to move, but didn't want to start a fuss. It got so cold so fast, those heaters would have been nice! Food-wise we ordered the deviled eggs, I got the fried red snapper throats, and my bf and his friend each got the crab Mac and cheese. I really like fish, but something about the fried nature made me feel a little sick. I wouldn't order it again, but maybe somebody else would like it! I was surprised at how big it was, the pictures don't do it justice. My bf and I agreed the deviled eggs were just okay, and while he said the Mac and cheese was alright as well, I thought it was pretty good. We walked out with lots of leftovers, and the Mac and cheese was a great midnight snack we enjoyed later lol!

Let me preface with...it's New Years Eve, we know The Pearl is going to poppin off and I can imagine the team here was preparing for a crazy evening shift. We came at around 4pm and they only had one bartender working, but again this makes sense if you remember the context of NYE, the other bartenders are probably coming in later! I only mention this because it took a very long time for our drink order to come out which led our server to take our order after about 20 minutes of us being sat. And after that we hardly saw our server, again I'm not really pressed about the service because I know these guys are going to be slammed in the evening. We had the cornbread which was not very moist, we tried to spread the butter on the cornbread but the cornbread was breaking apart so much that it turned to crumbs. We had to use our fork and kind of mash things back together to take a bite. For entrees my husband had the chicken which he said was amazing! He kept saying "wow" as he bit into his food. The biscuits that came with it were also really good (he let me have one). I had the risotto which was pretty good but the skin on the squash was a bit unpleasant. We'd like to come again on a normal day and we'll order different things to see if our minds change about our overall "it was okay." experience.

We are from Houston area and only visiting SA for Memorial weekend. My husband and I had dinner at this restaurant last night. I found it through a Google search and was excited to try it since it's a Michelin Bib Gourmand. We enjoy dining at Michelin restaurants both locally and internationally. The ambiance is very nice. It's a repurposed old building with a brewery inside and an open kitchen. I really enjoyed the "Mom Jeans" cocktail, and my husband enjoyed his beer. For appetizers, my husband ordered the deviled eggs, which were delicious, and I ordered the cucumber salad with gochujang. The salad was refreshing but quite difficult to eat because of the long pieces of cucumber. For our entrées, I ordered the Gulf catch with amberjack served over jambalaya rice. My husband ordered the half fried chicken and biscuits. The presentation was good, but the fish was a tad salty, and the shrimp in the jambalaya still had the digestive tract. The chicken was well seasoned, but my husband had to pull out five feathers from the cooked pieces. Lastly, we were seated in a booth where an old pipe was leaking onto my husband's hair and shirt. We only ate half of our orders because the portions were huge. We didn't try any desserts. The prices were decent. This place has the potential to earn at least one Michelin star if they improve quality control in the kitchen (especially checking for feathers and deveining shrimp). A cleanup of the open kitchen would also help, I noticed plastic storage containers touching the ceiling. That said, we are still grateful for the service and the staff, who kindly accommodated us as walk-ins with a sleeping toddler in a stroller.

I was walking in the Pearl area with my boyfriend when I saw the Michelin sign on the building. I told him we have to go in! After checking out the menu we decided we would get lunch even though I wasn't that hungry. I was not going to pass up a chance to eat at a Bib Gourmand Restaurant that I'd stumbled upon. Service was impeccable, our waitress was super friendly and gave us recommendations. I got the carrot ginger soup and the deviled eggs, both were absolutely amazing. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich. I tried a few bites of the crust and it was addicting. Prices were really reasonable for the quality of the food. Their cocktail menu was fun too. I got the Botanica which was delicious. The interior of the restaurant itself was so well done. The renovations that they had done in the historic building where beautiful. A waitress gave us a bit of the history of the building in the hotel next door and encouraged us to walk around which we did. I would love to eat here again, so that means I might have to come back to San Antonio.

Our waiter was so wonderful! Very attentive and friendly. I enjoyed the lighting, it wasn't too dark at all. Everything was perfect. The food was great. We had some cocktails, snapper throat, oysters, the famous fried chicken & THE BISCUITS WERE SO GOOD. We also had the steak, asparagus, and confit fingerling potatoes. We finished off with the brown butter carrot cake which is AMAZING and I wish I ordered more to go We love coming here! Make sure you make a reservation though. This place is packed.

If you're not from the area really verify the location of the restaurant. We walked in literal circles as we were visiting but it was worth it for sure. We started off with the oysters which were yummy and fresh. Although there was no vinegar as an option there was fresh horseradish. The service was kind, humble and so welcoming. Our waiter gave us a few options as must and we went with the pressure fried chicken. We did not leave a single piece of skin and meat on the bones by the time we were done. The chicken has to be the most juiciest chicken I have ever had. Homemade or at a restaurant. The pressure frying really does do some magic. The biscuit was small but mighty. Soft, buttery and crisp at the same time. They were the right pair for the juicy chicken. There is sauce that accompanies this but honestly the chicken should be enjoyed as is. I get why Southerleigh has gotten the recognition it has and happy I got to experience it. I look forward to the next time we are in the area and stop by. I suggest you stop on by and take the time to enjoy every bite.

See how much cornbread was in the salad essentially?
    Christina J.

I questioned the waitress about what was in the salad. She said it was spinach, cornbread croutons, and a white wine vinaigrette dressing with the protein being a bolognese meat. The flavor was mild, and the greens were definitely not spinach but more of a green leaf lettuce. The protein was fried and tastes like bologna/ spam. Bot what i was expecting to say the least. Too much stale cornbread, wrong type of greens.

    Can I bring a stroller?

They are so friendly here, kid friendly too. I'm sure they can find a way to accommodate. I would say yes because I've seen children here.

What phone number works best to call to see wait time? Listed number just rings and rings, no answer and I've tried a few times :(

Save yourself the time and frustration of calling. Use a "table" app to make reservations.

Do you currently have dine in? Do you take reservations?

Yes to both! Online at SOUTHERLEIGH.com or OpenTable

    Is this place dog friendly?

    Yes we are!

Is the brunch menu served during the weekday?

No, generally it is not. Sometimes they will serve it on holidays if they fall on a weekday.

Do they have Happy hour? If so what's on the menu?

Actually yes they do! Wings and warm buttery biscuits. And they'll have cheaper beers too.

We arrived around 5pm on a Thursday and got in queue which was out the door and wrapping around the front porch. Their host/doorman was kind, he offered the line water on many occasions and made pleasantries with almost all guests as the line moved. It was a hot day so those waters were clutch. By the time we made it to the front of order line maybe 40 minutes had passed. But ladies and gents the wait is worth it. When we plated our trays on the table my family all had heart eyes, and had equally loved our first bites. Their brisket is extremely tender. It's beautifully sliced and made for an amazing welcome back to the South taste for me. I was in heaven. I particularly enjoyed having the fresh pickled red onion for fresh, zesty cuts through the abundance of other saltier elements on the plate. Their menu is slammin! Their sides, and sausages all had crafty ingredients. I enjoyed their spicy link options and their macaroni was delightful. Their BBQ sauce was a nice 4/5 but certainly did the job. As a native Texan who's had their fair share, this was easily some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Top 5 top 5 top 5. I'm of course coming back and looking forward for more banana cream pudding especially. They were small, slightly sweet, and had great balance with the vanilla wafer ratio. That whip cream on top too had me hooked. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome back meal for the bold Texas cuisine, hospitality, and novelty animal and cowboy decor.

My daughter ordered meatloaf, a pork chop plate, Mac & cheese, collard greens, cornbread muffin, a tropical punch beverage and banana pudding which I felt the pudding was watered down vs. being thick. She asked for medium cooked pork chops and one pork chop was medium and one pork chop was over cooked. She notified the cashier and he stated they both were cooked at temp the same time. The collard greens were spicy and the Mac & cheese were watered down. I had to go to the restroom. This was the worst restroom in any restaurant I have ever used. First, there was no light on, I had to ask for light and one of the employees turned on the light. Secondly, there was an awful hole in the top right corner ceiling, I was afraid to use the restroom for fear of some bug crawling in through the ceiling hole. Third, there was also a hole in the wall visible behind the toilet tank top, again I was afraid to set down on the toilet and the whole bathroom decor was unappealing. When other patrons described this establishment as as "HOLE IN THE WALL" they were absolutely correct. Don't forget about the hole in the ceiling! Entering into the building, the walls and ceiling were black, making the atmosphere sad. There was also a small bar to the left of the dining area. But the kicker for me was, our two meals, two beverages, and two desserts cost $61!!! As many Soul Food Restaurant I have eaten in with my daughter for two people, I have never been charged so much for two soulfood meals with two beverages and two desserts. RECOMMEDATION: Of course my palate is different from other customers, but I would never return to the establishment due to being over charged for two meals, two beverages, two desserts and the lady's restroom was the pits.

Great BBQ Before or After Sightseeing…read more Smoke Shack has become one of our go to spots whenever we have guests visiting. It is the perfect stop after showing friends and family the Alamo and the River Walk before heading back home. Just be prepared for a line because every time we have gone, there is usually one. It moves, but it is definitely part of the experience. Our go to items are always the lip smacking brisket. We order a pound of regular and a quarter pound of lean. Both are tender and flavorful. The ribs and sausage are also solid choices. For sides, we rotate between the well seasoned green beans, mac and cheese, beans and okra. All of them are excellent and you really cannot go wrong. Side note. I am not a fan of their corn. I prefer corn that leans sweet rather than spicy, so it is not my favorite. Next time I go, I already know what I want to try. Either the Brisket Sandy or the Brisket Grilled Cheese. Both look incredible. Smoke Shack is always a reliable stop for good Texas BBQ and a great place to bring visitors for an authentic taste of San Antonio.

I personally prefer brisket that's freshly sliced without being cooked again. I was also surprised that additional brisket slices cost $0.50 each. The potato salad had plenty of ingredients, but it wasn't my favorite. My biggest concern was that it was cool rather than cold, which made me question whether it was being kept chilled enough. A-List Verdict: Brisket had flavor. Extra charge for slices was unexpected. Potato salad temperature was disappointing. A-List Rating: (3/5) The BBQ had potential, but the reheated brisket and lukewarm potato salad kept this one from making my A-List. Until next bite... this is A-List, keeping it deliciously honest.
