Beautiful store and a huge Patagonia fan. The customer service from the male employees was great and were extremely friendly and open. The women employees on the other hand seemed like I was just bothering them and not a paying customer. I also thought it was extremely cheap and disappointing that they only give customers one sticker knowing it's a tourist location. Only complaint was spending $400 at the store and not being able to get more than one cheap little sticker. The ladies in this store need to lighten up. I admit, I had never been a patron of Patagonia. I hardly even knew it existed. But I was headed down Newbury on my way to pick up a "B Strong" cap at 47, and I spotted the blackboard sign out front advertising that Patagonia was giving away a free Capilene "Run On Boston" (or "Boston Run On" depending on how you read it) t-shirt with each donation to the One Fund (minimum donation of $15). It has been wonderful seeing how businesses have been showing their heart and solidarity with what our city has been going through. And I loved the shirt! So I emailed them my donation receipt and stopped by one day to pick up my tee. Service was friendly. The Capilene tees run small as they are rather fitted, so I'm glad I decided to try them on - the one I took home was a size up from what I had initially asked for. I also took home the blue t-shirt, which was less see through than the yellow and white options that were dressing up the dummies in the store window. They seem to be a rather green company - a new bag would be available for 20 cents, or they could take a look to see what second hand bags they had in the cupboard. SoI ended up going home with a really nice Lululemon bag that a customer had left behind while making a return. Nice! read more

I was coming in as a repeat customer to this Patagonia Store and was looking for a ski coat for my son. My experience with the Patagonia Store staff was very disappointing. No one seemed to be around to help or answer questions. Then we realized that a guy standing in the ski coat section was actually an employee. He didn't offer to help us in any way including reaching very high up jackets that were out of reach for us. When we asked him questions about the product he had barely any knowledge about the product or cold weather conditions. Note to Patagonia retail management; If you want to sell a lot of $500 ski coats you should have a very knowledgeable person stationed in that area to expertly answer questions and assist customers that are in your store willing to spend that amount of money. Good luck with your retail model. I won't be back. read more

Came in today with my husband and baby daughter to do a bit of a spree for my husband and I. Between shopping bags, heavy coats and a squirming crazed child the sales associate (young man - very nice) who let us into the fitting room for my hubby didn't bat an eye (and automatically put us in a large room) when we all went in together. He clearly had kids/siblings and understood the madness that splitting us up with the kiddo at that moment would cause. A few minutes into my hubby trying to clothes we get a frantic knocking on the door and someone shrieks "we don't allow more than one person in the room!! We don't allow more than one person in the room!!" (Female sales associate - chartreuse sweater). First of all - what could we be doing wrong in there? All being crammed in the room was doing was keeping our kiddo under control. Secondly, we were allowed in. The rooms are locked. How could we have snuck in without another employees' permission? What if someone in that room needed assistance? Their system is literally that you can only go into a room with an employees permission - permission was granted. After a long day of shopping (btw Saks, Neiman, North Face, Polo, J Crew, Moncler & more had NO issue with letting us all in together) the idea of making my daughter "leave" my husband was beyond stressful and totally ruined my shopping trip. Daughter was a squirming angry mess after we went outside. I had a whole list of women's items I wanted to snag downstairs but after that, all I wanted to do was leave. Being "scolded" for something we were allowed to do, while having already spent hundreds and planning on spending thousands, was icky. Patagonia shipping is really fast and I don't ever have to go back to this location. Bonus star for the two lovely gentlemen working - cash register and the associate upstairs who graciously saw frazzled parents and wanted to make our day (and shopping) easier. Having kids isn't a pass to do whatever you want, but having compassion for people who have kiddos at the end of their rope goes a long way towards being a decent human. read more

Came here about a week and a half ago in search for a pair of shorts... I didn't pack enough shorts since I didn't think it was going to be that HOT while I was there... Anyway, long story short... I LOVE their product but I HATE paying for the full price! Thus, after walking around - the sale sign caught my eyes... the pair of flats that I've been meaning on getting were on sale (half price!) so of course I had to get it. Apparently... correct me if I get this wrong... I think there's a certain limit ($145+?) you don't get taxed! What?! Coming from the Bay Area... this was certainly good news for my boss and I (who bought the same pair of flats but in brown.) So far the best customer service I've received at any retail store in Boston. the staff it is always polite and helpful! the negative comments really impress me, as I've never witnessed something like that. in the 2nd floor section, men's clothing; the service was excellent and helpful. the entire staff team has knowledge of the product and its technical functions, if I couldn't find something at the store they automatically offers me other options or even shipping to my home the item. This was the first time I visited the Patagonia store in Boston. I'm sad to say I was very disappointed with the service. I walked in and asked an employee about a specific jacket I was looking for. She directed me right to it. Everything was fine up until I got in line for checkout. Once I got up to the checkout counter none of the employees even acknowledged I was standing there. No one greeted me at all, instead they decided to just ignore me and talk amongst themselves. I stood there for a good minute and still nothing. I noticed another register across the store and went there instead. What really got me angry was the fact that another blonde white lady who was behind me got immediate service after I moved to another register. I've worn Patagonia clothes for a while now, and I was pleased to find a store while in Boston. I can say for sure my experience was totally worth it. The store provided much more than shopping online would. When I stopped by on a rainy Friday afternoon, the store was semi-crowded. Unlike most Newberry Street stores, it was not filled with tourists, but rather, more locals seemed to be there. I think that really speaks to the classic, original styles of Patagonia's clothes. The service was excellent. The salesman went out of his way to help me select a new down jacket. The jacket is light, warm, and very high quality. Also, I learned that you can send anything Patagonia in to be repaired at any time, which is something most companies don't offer. All in all, I am very satisfied with my purchase. I recommend stopping by if you want to be prepared for New England's unpredictable weather. read more

It just feels that the staff/management don't want people in their store. And what might indicate that...maybe the fact that they keep their door roped off, the door locked, a sign saying to call and schedule an appointment if you would like to enter. And I assure you, even if you make an appointment, you will still arrive to a locked door and need to stand in the cold and hope they hear your call and open the door for you. If you are allowed entry, you will be sternly instructed to sanitize hands, stay 6 feet apart, try not to touch anything. I realize this is for "staff safety" as they said, but this isn't the first 6 months of the pandemic! We've all been in stores at this point. Walk to any other store on Newbury and see how they're safely doing it while still being welcoming to guests. read more

The checkout line was atrocious. They had 3 registers. One woman tied up the while line and hogged one register while 15 people waited in line. She had her daughter running all over the store shopping. In the other two registers a husband and wife each tied up a register. These 3 people were some sort of professional buyers. They used special codes and had all kinda of wonky receipts and forms. I had two items and it took me 25 mins to pay. The woman in front of me had one and her 2 yr old somehow managed. Management at the store has to do something. I mentioned what a disaster it was to two clerks but they just had stupid looks on their faces. read more

I have shopped at Patagonia for many years and bought clothing and outerwear there. Recently my husband and I went to Newbury St Patagonia store to purchase multiple items. We were met at the door by an officious and brusque individual who told us that we could not enter the store without an appointment. There was one other customer in the store at that time who visible to us. No further discussion was tolerated by this store employee because we had failed to make an appointment. In fact, we had no knowledge that an appointment would be necessary. We voted with our feet and purchased numerous items at Fjall Raven store close by. Patagonia has lost us as customers and the welcoming, gracious and helpful staff at Fjall Raven now has us as regular customers. Bad treatment at retail stores or elsewhere need not be tolerated. read more

To quote Ani DiFranco, "I am not a purse girl, that is not what I do. I don't care about Louid Vuiton, give me something more substantial to hold on to" Ok, lyrical butchery aside, I don't care about purses. They're usually ugly, it seems you have to get a new one every year or season depending on if you're trendy, and I'm not a fan of prints, large buckles, leather, or things that don't have adequate padding that need to be slung over my shoulder. I walk everywhere, I walk at night, and I have never wanted something that screamed out, "snatch me!" so I've opted for cheapie courier bags found at street vendors in prague or Old Navy (how's that for dramatic contrast?) Problem with those is, while cheap, they don't have great should padding either, and by the end of a day walking, my back hurts. I have a big ass bag that can carry my camera, lenses, laptop, small children, my cat, and a few books. Thing is heavy. But awesome. I decided I wanted something smaller, more compact that I could use for every day. WELL, finding a small courier bag is hard. I didn't want some monstrosity from Timbuk2, and I wanted something I could get in a store, so I could try it on. Patagonia totally rocked it. The staff was amazingly friendly, the store is well lit, well laid out, wheelchair accessible while being 2 floors (a seeming rarity on Newbury St) and they recycle extra fabric into super cute gift bags. They had a decent selection of hiking/courier bags, and I found the perfect one that, like my soul, is inky black. Hooray! read more

This is a redundant review since this place is already 5 stars on Yelp, but here I go anyway. I'm not an outdoors guy normally, but my friend dragged me mountain climbing, and I loved it so I figured I might as well invest in a real hard shell so I don't have to use his smelly gear. 1) The customer service at this store was great as everyone else has pointed out. They're friendly, helpful, and they know what they're talking about. 2) Store layout is compact, clean, and very organized. Bottom floor is for your trendier, non-technical stuff (polos, shorts, pants). Top floor is for your technical gear (jackets, fleeces, baselayers, etc.). If you know what you're looking for then you'll know where to go. 3) Patagonia gear in general is high quality. My friend swears by it. 4) Great warranty guarantee. I don't think it's quite as good "we'll replace it for a lifetime" as someone else said, but they guarantee their products and they'll repair minor stuff for free supposedly. Yes, Patagonia is going to be more expensive than EMS/REI/generic branded gear, but you get what you pay for. read more

Patagonia changed Boston for me. In the chillier months it took this city from a frozen, cruel tundra and turned it into a manageable and even enjoyable winter habitat. I have a range of items that keep me warm and toasty: fleeces, merino long underwear, down jackets and the piece de resistance, my Tres Parka. This is not just a jacket; it is a near impenetrable barrier between you and the elements that I've come to love and respect. A jacket that keeps you happy and not frost bitten is worth its weight in gold, and as someone who commutes to South Boston (and over that dang bridge) I couldn't be happier with my coat. I got it in October and couldn't wait for it to be cold enough to wear it, that's how head over heels I am. Another great thing about Patagonia is its women's clothing section that somehow people don't realize exists. I have at least ten fabulous dresses that I wear all year long and I get at least one compliment each time I go out it one. Crowd favorites are my "Morning Glory" dresses that I have in a burnt orange and black. People literally cannot believe an outerwear company has made such chic women's clothes. They are also created in a stretchy fabric that will shake out with no wrinkles, and as an aspiring lady I do love nice lookin' duds that don't require an iron. The final word on Patagonia is about their staff and company motivations: I'll keep it short and sweet, both are amazing. From the management to employees on the floor you'll find people who are knowledgeable, friendly and will track down a Nano Puff in last season's hot color to the best of their ability. Supporting an eco friendly company will make you feel good, and if you shop at Pata you'll also look pretty fly as well. read more

What crack are the reviewers here smoking? Customer service at this location is brutal. I've visited this location 3x over the past year, and each time, I feel like I did at the end of my first marriage. Yep, that's right... my wife (or the Patagonia sales staff) see me, but choose to walk right by me and pretend like I don't exist. I literally had one saleswoman look at me, and then turn the opposite direction. Asking staff here for help is like pulling teeth, where they do the bare minimum. Clearly management at the Patagonia on Newbury St don't care about customer service because there does not appear to be any pride taken actually doing work at this location. OMG I love their gear. The sticker shock is a bit much, as they didn't really have a 'sales' rack or anything. I love their gear though, and their store felt super outdoorsy. I felt like if I had an unlimited budget, I could be sufficiently outfitted for almost anything. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable. I kind of wish they'd move away from the bubble jacket look for inner layers... but i guess they have to differentiate themselves from north face somehow. I'm a sucker for anything Patagonia (but only when they are on sale). The people in the store are quite helpful and friendly. My only problem is I still have the fleece jackets that I bought eleven years ago... They are so durable that I just keep accumulating newly designed fleece jackets when they come out. I like the fact that they accept old Capilene for recycling. It could well be a totally crass PR token gesture but it's a gesture nevertheless. read more

Patagonia is located in a brownstone building with an old time Boston feel. They have two floors, one for women's and one for men's clothing. Customer experience has always been great, even when the store is super busy. The clothing I've bought from here is of good quality and looks great too. I knocked off one star because in the middle of winter they are usually out of stock on some of their winter gear (especially the popular stuff, which is what I was looking for). read more

The folks at Patagonia Boston just made my day. First of all, I'm a huge Patagonia fan. Love the quality of their products, their business ethics, manufacturing techniques, pro-environment politics...everything. I recently purchased a down jacket from Mountain Hardwear. When I wore the jacket for the first time on a bike ride across town, I was disappointed to find that feathers were leaking from a small spot on the sleeve. MH's warrantee doesn't kick in until 60 days after he purchase date (weird), so I walked into Patagonia's Boston location today hoping they might be able to recommend a repair solution. I spoke with Kurt, who immediately noticed that my jacket was not a Patagonia product, but requested that I take it off so he could attempt a repair. Kurt called over Nick and Sebastian, and the three of them proceeded to perform minor surgery at the checkout counter. Within minutes, they were able to trim the protruding down, pull the remaining feathers back in, and seal the small hole with a tiny piece of special outdoor fabric tape. I was blown away and inquired about payment for the work, but the response I received was a quick one: "No charge, have a great day!" I already own a number of Patagonia products, and I look forward to returning to the Boston store soon for my next purchase. Kurt, Sebastian, and Nick couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful! Nice store and nice staff. Very disappointing experience having the store order one of the fleeces for me however. They didn't have the size I needed and said they would order it online for me and it would come in a few days. It never came, I never got any emails about it, I had to call the store twice at which point they said I needed to call customer service to get the tracking number because they have no way of finding it. The salesperson ended up doing some of the legwork and found the tracking number and I am now able to determine the fleece is coming over a week later than initially expected. This all could have been avoided if I ordered it online myself. I like Patagonia products but this was really unimpressive. read more

Patagonia has such an earthy chill vibe. I love their company philosophy which promotes reusing materials and discourages unnecessary waste. The staff is really helpful, and the products are good quality. Best products, best customer service, hands down. I could cloth a large family with all the fleece and outerwear I own from here. My favorite jacket-- the coveted Tres Parka, the zipper on the pocket ripped off--having just a mild panic attack... I walked into the store and was told to grab a new coat...unfortunately they were sold out in black in my size for the season :( But I was told to come back in August when winter comes out and get a new one or send it out and wait 6 weeks for the repair! This is the first product I have ever had trouble with (apparently it was a recall and mine slipped through the crack) but otherwise their stuff is tough and lasts forever and if it doesn't, they'll fix it!! The customer service is great and their knowledge of the product is amazing! Also a big fan of their company's recycling practices and environmental message! read more

I REALLY like this place. It's a cool store to stop into when I'm in the area to check out their latest wares. All the employees are very helpful and chill, and they never make you feel pressured to buy anything after letting you into the dressing room with a couple hand-and-leg-fulls of clothes even though you end up buying a single shirt (if anything at all). I've bought a few pairs of cords from there that have lasted me a while, as well as some organic cotton shirts, which come in some cool styles (IMHO) and feel extra-good in the summer. My only gripe would be that it's next to impossible to find pants there that have my ideal length, requiring me to pay a visit to the tailor. However, Patagonia will reimburse you for it, which is nice. Also, everything's pretty expensive there, but it's also quality stuff so you get what you pay for. read more

Lately I've been disappointed a lot by various retailers and their customer service. Yeah, it's a bad economy so you can't leave even if you hate it, but would it kill you to smile? Anyway, the Newbury Street Patagonia store was like stepping into an alternate reality of customer service. I came in minutes before they were about to close, yet they still took the time to help me find several options for what I was looking for. When I went to check out I asked if the hat I was purchasing was returnable because it was a little snug. The salesperson (not the one that was helping me at the register, the one standing near by) asked what size it was - I hadn't realized it wasn't just one size fits all - and then found it for me in a large and ran down to the basement to find the medium (perfect fit!). All this despite the fact that they were closing. If I could afford to I would shop at Patagonia all the time - just for the customer service! (And of course for the cute, eco-friendly clothes that make me want to spend every day hiking.) read more

Four stars. The fifth being withheld only because the quality of workmanship and some of the materials, and the breadth of inventory seem less than they were earlier in Patagonia's storied existance. (The curious and/or patient can read the historical perspective below). I occasionally stop in at the Newbury St. store to pick up a new piece of clothing, and as others have already written, the staff are first rate and the lines of clothing forever being reinvented and attractively merchandised. And the return/repair policy is tops. That is one of the best things the company and the store have kept up, all these years. I actually had a zipper replaced in my ancient Guide shell... almost 10 years after I bought it! I could have gone to a tailor close to home, but only Patagonia had the zipper color that would feel "right" on my jacket. They shipped it to the repair place for me and in weeks it came back looking (and zipping) better than new, no charge. As I sit here keyboarding, I am wearing a Capilene fleece mid-layer pullover that is at least 10 years old. I have several more in my dresser, a closet filled with what are now "vintage" Patagonia: Guide shell jackets, fleece vests, H2No rain pullovers and pants, and many lines of outdoor clothing that have been out of production for years. I think my oldest parka/jacket is around 18 years old. I even have several pairs of women's briefs, winter hats, Capilene long johns and socks that have withstood the test of time, wearing like iron for more than a decade.I still have and use their Capilene line of kayaking riverrunner pullovers, backpacks (that have traveled around chunks of Asia, Europe and some of the Americas) and equestrian breeches (does Patagonia even make riding wear anymore??), and lots of other stuff. Yes, I am a dinosaur too, but an outdoorsy one, and I like to think that I have aged as well as the nearly two decades worth of clothes and accessories I've bought both from Patagonia's catalogue (and later its website) and the Newbury St. store..When I was much younger, Patagonia outfitted me for the activities I grew up doing. Now in my dotage, their clothes still keep me warm in New England winters. Back to the brick-and-mortar shop itself: It is fun to browse, clean, well laid out, and again, well staffed. If you're in town and poking around in the stores, this Patagonia is worth a visit. read more

If I were forced to pay full retail price, it would have cost me $360. I don't know if I would ever pay full price as I only get things from North Face only when they have sales. read more
