The people at this location are incredibly kind and knowledgeable. I went in for a quick task and had ended up having anxiety attack (no fault of Patelco, I'm just going through some stuff). The teller who helped me was patient and compassionate, being very reassuring and helpful that everything was okay. I have been a fan and user of credit unions for decades. I like it that they focus on members instead of making as much profit as possible. Living in Oakland, if I have to deal with cash at my credit union (Patelco), I don't feel safe carrying money to or from Patelco in downtown Oakland. I feel much safer dealing with cash at the Lafayette branch. I also find the branch in Lafayette with much less foot traffic than the Oakland branches. Like today, no one was in line besides me. There were people using the ATM outside of the building. It only takes me about an extra 5 or 10 more minutes driving to the branch over the hill from Oakland. The only thing I have to watch out for is rush hour traffic, and make sure that I don't get stuck in it. I like to plan on going between 11 and 2. Also, I do whatever banking I can do on my phone. I find that tellers are more friendly and helpful when they aren't dealing with long lines of customers. I like that is true for the tellers at the Lafayette branch. read more

Today I got an email from Patelco threatening to GIVE MY MONEY TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA because I hadn't contacted them in 3 years. I have made at least five good-faith attempts to contact Patelco by phone in the last year. I'm told have to go into a branch to reactivate online access. In the email, I was asked to type my birth year and digits from my SSN onto a webpage in order to reactivate access. I did so, and was repeatedly told the information was wrong. I cannot relate how good it's going to feel to dump this horrible company. read more

She even remembers prior conversations which blows me away considering the large volume of customers they have. Someone must have used my cc online because I got a text notification and within one minute I got an email for suspicious activity and all I had to do was confirm that I did not authorize the transaction, which instantly blocked my card, then I got a phone call from Patelco. I couldn't stay on hold, so The next day, the Lafayette branch assisted to reissue my card to the address on file and they were amazing! Pedro, and the other associate that works behind the counter, should be recognized for their outstanding customer service. My family has been long-time loyal Bank of America (BofA) and Wells Fargo (WF) customers (checking, savings, credit cards, mortgages, etc.) By chance, we stopped by the Patelco Lafayette branch, several months ago as we were shopping for a new car loan. Pedro and this other gentleman made the loan process extremely smooth and easy. Additionally, the rate offered (3%) by Patelco was significantly better than WF and BofA. We decided to become members and take the loan from Patelco. Since that first visit, and each and every time we come into the branch, these gentlemen address us by name. I didn't even want to give them a star. Ridiculous bank especially this branch. Someone I know has a sick dad. They needed to access some funds so there able to take care of the dad that's sick. But the bank denied them and locked the dads account. Of course they just want to hoard all the money. Well I'm giving this branch 4 stars because every person there is awesome. If I could rate the web site, I would give it about 1/2 of a star. Since they changed their online platform it really sucks. I hate it. There is nothing intuitive, loading recent transactions on any account is very time consuming and hard to follow. I wish they had kept the old site. Recently went into another Patelco branch, but felt rushed given that I came in before the branch closed. I really wanted to take advantage of the refi promotion they have before it ends so I went on yelp and looked up other Patelco branches and saw that Lafayette had the best reviews. Called the Lafayette branch and spoke to Tricia. I couldn't really come on the weekdays so she advised me to come first thing on Saturday because it gets busy. So we did, we sat down with Lynnea minutes after we arrived and their assistant manager, Sar was next to her. They really took their time into explaining the process of refinancing the loan from my current lender to Patelco. I came in for an auto refi and walked out a Patelco loyal with my new free checking and money market where I could start building my savings up. I have worked with Sar singh to get one of my auto loans in the past. After the great experience with him I refinanced all my cars here and received much better rates than I had before. In addition I have purchased a home and called Sar to help get a mortgage. He was able to direct me to one of his coworkers who would be able to help with the Mortgage. I ended up being forwarded to Brandon Blalcok who helped me with my mortgage. He answered every single question which I had a lot. I would receive responses right away or within the hour at the latest. I received very competitive rates from patel co and actually received better rates on my auto loans that other banks were offering me. Whenever I would call or email either Sar or Brandon I would hear back right away or within the hour at the latest. I am extremely satisfied with the service I received here along with the rates I got. That is why I now have all my loans(auto and mortgage) done through Patel Co. Gee, I get an email we are approved for a joint account and only need to provide proof of my address. Are we approved OR NOT? So we visit the branch and get questionable looks (inter-racial twosome). Anyway, seems they need even more evidence we aren't scam artists so I email them the document. Then they have the audacity to question our different addresses and want to know why! So lets see...... to get an account at Patelco, you have to be the same race, have the same address, and not be unusual. Real friendly place to do business! read more

Only thing i am annoyed with is Patelco charges $10 to issue a lost debit card. Guess, I need to be more aware of where I put my cards. I was referred by Alysha to open a new account at Patelco. I went to the Lafayette branch to open checking and savings accounts. I was helped by Martin who is the manager there. He was very helpful and attentive. This was my first time opening an account at a credit union so Martin took the time to explain how they differ from the more traditional banks. He explained the different accounts in detail and asked questions to make sure that I was opening the right account for my needs. This is the best place to bank I've ever used in my life. People are great, informed, helpful and friendly. But Patelco actually feels like they are on my side, always trying to make things work for me, unlike the big banks where friendly people try to overcome policies that make it work first for the bank. I ask Patelco for something and the answer is 'sure'. I ask Wells Fargo and they either quote me a policy that says no or they dash off an email to somewhere to see if they can get permission. WF and BofA, have fees, often cleverly hidden, for things that Patelco does for free. They make things work, like my home equity loan, car loan, and make it cheaper than big banks. i have no reason for saying this other than I tell people about it all the time. And i am hard to please. There is no sense of 'now what' in dealing with them, unlike others, (including other credit unions) I have dealt with. Very open communication. i kind of look forward to dropping in to see what they might have for me next. Strange but true. read more
