25 years with Patelco, and then things went bad. Problems started when I had to ask them (they never said) that my variable home loan could have a lower interest rate. They said there would be no charge to do this, they lied, costing me hundreds of dollars. Yes, they were quick to raise my load rate when conditions changed. Also, they printed my checking account number on my wife's monthly Account Statement, and her checking account number on my monthly Account Statement. To add insult, they blamed me because we have access to each other's account (no secrets). There's more, but I'm taking my accounts elsewhere. read more

I thought credit unions were supposed to be for the people--unlike the big banks. This credit union operates like a big bank; they just charged me $5.00 for not having $500 in my checking account. I was not overdrawn; I simply didn't have enough sitting in the account for them. So they charged me $5. And I have banked with them for years. Choose a different credit union. Yesterday morning I wanted to withdraw some money from Travis Credit Union, put my ATM card in there, the screen did not move at all and ate up my debit card. Had called Patelco Credit Union's 800 number And they gave me a break, did not charge me the $20 to mail me the ATM card. This is not so much a review for the Willow Pass location but about the, I guess, fraud department. I submitted a payment to be reviewed for fraud last week, this was all done through the app and I wasn't able to give a lot of details to the incident. I got an email from them shortly after saying there was nothing I could do and would not be getting refunded. This is chiefly because the Habit Grill (where the fraudulent charge took place) reported that the physical card was on the premises and the chip was activated. I got in contact with the fraud department and informed them that was impossible because I never lost my card, in fact I had used it that day in the same town as the weird charge, at One Plant Dispensary where I spent $97. The fraudulent charge at the Habit was $108. The habit charge was the only charge on the statement. One Plant hadn't registered. The fraud lady also told me that it's impossible to get your card information and put in on another card by standing next to the cardholder and using some kind of scanner. The internet informs me that it is not only possible but possible in several ways. Also on my end on the statement it reads as The Habit Bar and Grill. On the Patelco end it said I had used an ATM which I certainly had not. So after all that the Patelco lady said there was nothing they could do and could not return my money to me. So I went back to One Plant to talk to the manager so they would know this was happening at there establishment. That's when I was informed that I was the second person to complain about this........ I feel like I've done the fraud department's whole job and I've lost the bandwidth to call them back, make an appointment and argue my case again with the research they should have done. I met with financial advisor, Nick today. He made me feel comfortable, he was respectful, and we accomplished a lot during our first meeting. He was kind enough to tell me what my expected interest would be on my credit card this month which was 280.00 less than I was expecting! I had one of the experiences today from the teller named George that does not make me feel valued as a member of this Patelco Credit Union. I've gone to this branch a lot, and I sometimes ask for newer bills especially when I'm giving a gift. It's graduation season after all! It has never been a problem before. Today, I ask for the same request. He hesitates - I explain that I've always done this. The tellers in the past have always gone out of their way to withdraw more and help pick the newer bills from what the machine spits out. He still says that he can't, because there's others in line that he has to help! Is it because I have less in my balance? What happened to focusing with the member that is currently in front of you? Am I then just a "number" to George? Someone he can have go through the line, so he can do the next task? My husband and I went in without an appointment for a loan and to open an account. First time customers at Patelco. My husband went up to the teller and asked if we needed an appointment, he was told no appointment was needed, we would just have to wait for one of the bankers. Alex was our banker; he was very nice, helpful and made us felt welcomed. We prefer applying for loans in the office, not online. Alex forewarned us the application was going to take a while since we didn't already have accounts with Patelco, we were fine with the application time length. While we were in his office applying then opening an account, there were other employees walking past and checking in to see how much longer we would be. I felt they were rushing him. When I'm bringing my business I want to feel welcomed and feel like my business will be taken care of, Alex did that. The other employees "checking" on him didn't make me feel welcomed nor did they want my business. I truly appreciate Alex and his patience with helping my husband and I. Five stars for Alex not for the other employees who kept rushing him. Another note: His browser was glitching on him, he had to troubleshoot his browser while assisting us. Here we are. Again. On a Sunday. I need to put some cash in my bank account. Both ATMs wont accept cash deposits. Starts to take the money, says it's printing a receipt, then hands it all back. Both ATMs. Tried a few times each. This is ridiculous and unreliable. It's a very very basic and extremely important aspect of banking to be able to use an ATM after hours to handle your money. I have been with Patelco since 1994 and closed my account yesterday. Over the years I've had a few experiences where staff has made a mistake that put me in an uncomfortable position. One example is when someone made a second checking account for me when I got a credit card, and rather than close that account when I asked, she told me I had to keep a balance in both accounts! I wanted to close my account then but I couldn't afford to at the time. Last week I applied for a $1000 "ScoreUp" credit builder loan. I was approved online and didn't hear from anyone for a few days. I called and asked for information and was told my case had been assigned but I hadn't heard anything about a payout. Then I went into the branch and was told the same thing, it was assigned and they couldn't do a payout there. I called again on another day and someone told me the "ScoreUp" loan doesn't actually pay out. It's a savings account you pay 8% interest on to help you build credit, and you can't touch the money in the meantime. I asked if it's like a secured credit card and apparently it's not. All this was in pretty convoluted fine print when I double checked. No one in the branch could explain this to me when I was obviously confused? Or did they just not know? The loan officer assigned to my loan couldn't find the time to reach me? I'm done. I can't afford to get taken advantage of by this "credit union" anymore. This is the most for-profit nonprofit on earth. I opened an account at Pacific Service Credit Union today and they've already streamlined the process of refinancing my auto loan for lower monthly payments and a lower interest rate than Patelco offered. read more

I have been with Patelco for 3 years now and have been a great customer. Never been late with the payments and paid off my Lexus when I refinanced from them. Simply speaking, I have an excellent history with them. I was happy until this RUDE, RACIST and DISRESPECTFUL front receptionist clerk from Concord Location branch, acted as If I was a nobody!!!! He acted as if I was not worth it, and I was a waste of time when I came in the bank!!! I didn't get his name; I hope I did. Patelco kept sending emails about a pre-qualified / pre-approved $amount auto loan. Now, I was thinking of buying a new car and thought about this offer from Patelco. I decided to come visit the bank to hopefully talk to a nice and professional agent regarding my auto loan. There were only 20 minutes left before they closed. The guy said that he won't be able to complete my application in 20 minutes. If I come back tomorrow, he can do it, otherwise I can do it online. He said it'll be the same thing. I did the online application and got denied because I asked for more than what I was pre-approved/pre-qualified. I felt that if I did the application in the bank with the assistance of a banker, they would be able to do something about it or would give a suggestion on how to make it work. The online application doesn't have any option. Two days later, I decided to go to the bank and met this DISRECTPECTFUL guy that gave me a negative vibe right away when I stepped in. He didn't believe that I was pre-qualified or even pre-approved. He said they don't have this kind of offer. I did not argue with him. I just sat there and waited for a financial adviser. There was another guy that came out and listened to our conversation and later just walked away. I showed the front clerk guy proof that I received an email about the offer! He made me feel that I was LYING and wanted to take advantage. The guy that walked away, called my attention, and said that he can help me out. I went to his office and asked for my IDs and if I am a member. I asked why my auto loan was denied, and he said he'll check it out for me but in the meantime, he wanted and prepared a NEW AUTO LOAN APPLICATION. I refused the second auto loan application because I don't see the sense of doing it again since my first application was declined for some reason. I asked him simply before I left. If they can reinstate the first application where I can just get a lower amount and I'll pay the rest of the amount myself. He told me that he'll call personally. I didn't receive any call, message, or text. AS EXPECTED, which I felt when I left. I felt that I was mistreated and discriminated every time I went there. I didn't feel like I was a member. I am a very simple person. I don't wear fancy clothes. It seemed like I was judged by the way I dressed and looked!!!! My auto loan approval though got denied was something that didn't make me disappointed because I understood BUT NOT THE WAY THESE EMPLOYEES MADE ME FEEL. In my mind, I wanted to build an excellent credit history, but I was very disappointed. I don't usually write a review and just move on due to my hectic schedule but this time, I cannot just let it go. I went there many times and not a single time I felt that someone was willing to help. I just recently bought another Lexus and is financed through them. I will fully pay this car at the end of this year. After all these humiliating experiences, I will close my account and will never be proud that I was a member for a very short period. To the managers and owners, please take the time to read this review. Hopefully, someone will take this matter seriously in the future. I was a patron of Petelco for a few years. About 3 years ago I went on a medical leave which caused my bills and expenses to be high and my account became overdraft. They shut down my account but I came in to pay the balance. They told me to wait and I should be able to reinstate my account. I have made several attempts over the past few years because I truly loved this bank. But I kept getting the run around! Then I was told there was fraud done by me on the account. I'm like how... then no clear answer until today when I tried again! I was told because I applied many times and my husband applied an there were too many attempts they deemed it as fraud! Okay but no one sent me a letter stating that maybe someone was trying to open an account or verify if it was me or nothing! Never again will I apply to this credit union. I will invest my money in another credit union. This establishment has gone down since I was a patron last, most of the reviews say so. Good luck! read more

8/25/2019 between 9:30 and 10pm I attempted to deposit $200 into my account. I went to the ATM, put in my card, entered my pin, hit the deposit button, and followed the steps to deposit the $200 cash into my checking account. After I put the money in the slot and watched my two crisp $100 bills go in, I stood there for a long time waiting for the deposit to complete. The longer it took the more nervous I got. Finally an ERROR message came on the screen stating the ATM didn't detect any bills deposited. Edit: 11/21/22 I don't remember how this issue was resolved, but I'm no longer a customer with them so probably not well. read more

I've come to this location a couple times when I've had to make changes to my account or to make deposits. Staff here is friendly, the office is clean/organized, and in the late morning there wasn't too much of a wait. There are hand sanitizers located around room which is nice. All my needs were taken care of. My only gripe is that they don't accept checks made out to "cash" and I had a few of those given as gifts from family. You then have to ask them to write your name on the check for Patelco to deposit it. It is a bit of a hassle but it is their protocol. All in all, this establishment takes care of everything I need! read more

Becareful when depositing any money into this credit union, today I went in to cash two cashier checks from my customer who is a Patelco Credit Union customer and they refused to cash them unless I were to open an account with them??? The institution doesn't have enough money on hand to cash my two checks for 14,899. also they require a thumb print to get just a portion of the money, this is very very disturbing! I've been with Patelco Credit Union for 30 years. I worked at the telephone company and my co-workers told me about them. We have all of our accounts with Patelco. The helpful staff has always given good advice. Our mortgage is cheap, the interest paid on our savings and CD's is much better than any bank. I'm not sure what has happened to Patelco credit Union, once upon a time it was a really good credit union you always got a smile and you were treated as though you were a friend that they looked forward to spending time with. Now they seem to have a lot of turnover with employees you're made to feel that you're not important and you're bothering them taking their time, you're always having to wait and it's very frustrating when it's the employees talking to each other more than helping customers. When you try to call in it's nearly impossible to get through, and when you go to the branch and expect a phone call back the next day because you're told you'll receive that call and you don't, it it's very frustrating. I am a current member with Patelco Credit Union with two different accounts. I went in recently with my wife to open a college savings account for our newborn daughter. After waiting 30 mins to speak to someone, we were finally help by Raven (I believe that was her name). She did not attempt to build any rapport with us, just asked what we wanted. I asked what she recommend for college savings and she said that Patelco did not have such accounts. I told her that I read online about Patelco's Coverdell savings plan. She quickly looked it up not knowing anything about it. I ask her if she could give me some further details and she just read some random notes from the website which weren't even correct. Then she abruptly walked away to talk to a colleague and came back after about 5 mins. Immediately she asked if we wanted to open that account, after giving us ZERO information about what it entails. My wife and I just decided to leave, and go else where to find a savings account for our daughter. read more

Usually Patelco has been helpful, but lately something has been off. I have been a customer of Patelco for over 10 years. Recently I got a check in the mail for 2550 dollars, and figured it was person that I gave 5000 dollars to paying me back. I deposited it with my phone and after a few days it went through, so I used the new balance to pay down credit card debt with Patelco. A few days go by, and I couldn't buy milk for some reason. I check my account, and checking is in the negative for the amount of the check. The check bounced. So, I figure that I'll just transfer back from the credit card balance to checking even though It'd charge a 2.5% cash advance fee but I couldn't do anything with my account. So, I message support and they tell me to call a number. I call the number, and they say that to re-enable my disabled account I have to bring the bad check to a branch. So, I drive to the Concord branch and after a short bit (maybe 10 minutes) I'm talking with a banker in her office. She talks to somebody on the phone, makes a scan of the check, then tries to reach somebody in the "backoffice" but says that nobody is at their desk. A good amount of minutes go by, and I'm getting frustrated because I've been there about 30 minutes, and I want to get my account working again so that I can pay bills and actually have access to my money. The strange thing, is the banker really didn't treat me that nicely, she kinda acted like I was an alien or something. It was so weird, because I'm used to nice service from the Novato branch of Patelco. It's hard to describe how I was treated, but it's like she was bothered that she was helping me and acted like there was something wrong with me. It's like how people act who don't like and really don't want to deal with homeless people that have to deal with someone homeless coming into their business, though I'm not homeless and I'm their customer! She said that she couldn't get a hold of anyone in the "backoffice" and said that probably none of them are at their desks. She said that she'll call me when she gets a response, but my account working is important, so I say that I'm fine waiting, and she talks in a low voice like an adult scolding a child that isn't theirs, and says that I can't wait in her office and that I'll need to wait in the lobby. So, I'm waiting in the lobby, and I can still see her in her office. I really doubt she's trying to help me, but I wait. After maybe 20 minutes I decide to see how the progress is going, so I walk into her office and sit down, and ask if there is any update, and she acts extremely offended and says no. So, I go back to waiting in the lobby. Shortly after, she leaves her office, then leaves the building. I feel like I'm not getting helped, so I decide to call Patelco on my cell phone. I get somebody, and this person seems to really be trying to help me. After maybe 15 minutes on the phone, she gets in touch with another banker there who after 10 more minutes invites me into her office and starts to help me. So, new banker and somebody shadowing her, and they are also strangely serious. The feeling in the room is intense, and I just want to get my account working like any normal bank account. The strange thing is, this new banker is treating me like a foreigner also. The room is very serious and 95% of the time is spent in the office in silence while she looks at the computer. Long story short, I spent over an hour and 30 minutes in the branch and even though the man on the phone said that my account would be reactivated when I dropped off the check, they didn't reactivate it. She was also rude to me, like when I said it wasn't my fault, she condescendingly said "Well you are the one that deposited the fraudulent check." So, my account still doesn't work, even though I did everything they said. I asked how long until it worked, and she said "hopefully by early next week (it was friday)". The worst part is, when somebody treats me a certain way I tend to believe I am how they treat me. Them acting like I'm an "undesirable" and not giving me any clear answers just made me feel really bad. It's Sunday and I still haven't recovered. I don't know, maybe it was my hair, or my clothes, but I'm clean and smell nice so none of that should matter. Maybe it was something written on my account that made them feel bad for me, but it was just wrong how they treated me. It really makes me feel like my account and my money isn't my own and that I can't ever feel like my funds are mine again. No longer will I think, "Oh, that's so and so price, I have funds, I'll just purchase it" because I will always know that my account and the money on it doesn't belong to me, it belongs to Patelco, and if they block me from being able to use it, that they will treat me as an undesirable and a burden for trying to get it back. I trusted Patelco (my only bank) with all of my money; I still don't have access and have no idea when/if I will. read more
