Recently, I had a great customer experience at the Patelco Credit Union Cherry Ave. branch with Chris and Frank. My issue began with the mobile app where I was unable to deposit a check, resulting in my account balance going negative and receiving a $28 negative balance fee. The call center representatives Brian and Lisa recommended depositing at an ATM, mailing the check, or going to the nearest branch office. Reluctantly, I decided to go to the office even though it was an hour away to avoid any issues with mailing the check. Frank greeted me, reviewed the representatives' notes, and promptly deposited the check, made it available immediately (no holding period), and reversed the negative balance fee. Additionally, Frank suggested opening an Instant Backup account (which covers up to $500 in overdraft coverage) and a Money Market Plus account (currently paying 3%), with the assistance of Chris. Both accounts are offered at no charge as I have a Patelco checking account and auto-deposit at least $500 monthly. The customer service received from Frank and Chris at the Cherry Ave. branch, as well as Brian and Lisa at the call center, was world-class. read more

There was a security breach at my work and my banking information was exposed on the black web. When someone tried to drain my checking account, a manager from the Dublin headquarters immediately called me because - based on my account history - the transaction was out of character for me. She advised me to go to my nearest branch and gave me clear instructions on what to. Never have I received such personalized, 5-star, A-game customer service. She was genuinely concerned about me and my account, as though I was one her family members. I arrived at the Cherry Avenue branch less than a hour before closing. With rapid fire speed, the teller and on-duty manager bent over backwards to help me to get the compromised account closed and a new one opened. This all happened on 8/30/22 - right before I left on a trip for Labor Day weekend. I was so stressed out and was on the verge of tears when I got there but left smiling and calm. I want to emphasize that the Cherry Avenue branch and the manager from the Dublin headquarters treated me like family. Through their meticulous review of my account, concern and kindness, they showed they care about my money as much as I do, if not more. Never has a bank treated me so well. I have been a Patelco member since 1989 and I will never bank anywhere else, especially after my recent interactions with Mary and her team. I am so glad to have Mary on our side! They are very impressive and the customer service is fantastic. Here is the scenario: We recently had a lot of banking needs hit all at once that were all time very time-sensitive. We were in the middle of escrow, one of our vehicles financed through Patelco was totaled, and my credit card got stolen...all in the same week. There were LOTS of moving parts and none of it was straightforward. We had to wire funds for escrow from multiple accounts, we had to pay off the car loan, get gap-insurance involved, buy a new car AND deal with the fraudulent charges on our CC. I walked into the branch just as Mary opened the doors on a Monday and hit her with all of this. :-) She walked us right to her office, rearranged her day, and worked with us for well over an hour. She also gave me her personal cell, the direct number to the branch, introduced me to her team, and stayed in touch via text and call over the course of 2 weeks. To top it all off, she came in on a Saturday to finalize loan docs for the new car coordinating everything with what will be our new local branch in Roseville. Mary is sincerely the best branch manager I have ever dealt with and she has made sure that my interaction with Patelco is highly personalized. I feel like I really have someone on our side. I switched over to Patelco early last year it was the best decision I have made in years. Unlike most banks these ladies are very pleasant ,polite and courteous i am always taken care of in record time. I have excellent service with smiles and a bit of chit chat , cool stuff makes you feel good talking to good people. Never any issues its right down the street from my house it's a breeze to get into the parking lot and get to their door. They get a 10 score from me. Best banking experience ever! I have been a Patelco member for over 23 years and rarely go to the branches as I do most of my banking online. I had to go to this branch recently a couple of times - once to notarize a few documents and second time to start an account for my son. Both the times Jose and other staff members had been extremely accommodating and helpful to explain all the details and go over all the documents we were signing. The decor inside is very pleasant and as the moment you step in, you will feel a welcoming small bank environment. My whole life I have relied on banks for my financial wellbeing; until two years ago when I established my account with Patelco Credit Union and I have always had a great experience with people who reflect sincere caring and treat me not as another number or customer but part of the community. With this empowerment and the classes available online I established my own business and opened a Day Care on 2020. This was a huge change to leave my teaching job and establish something of my very own where I could do a greater change by creating my own curriculum with younger children. Today I had a different experience; as many business owners my livelihood was affected by COVID 19. I was blessed to qualify for a State Grant and a check was awarded to my business. I made an error and deposited the funds to my Patelco savings instead of my Patelco business account. I saw my account go into negative and I worried deeply so I called the branch -but decided to go in person to resolve the matter immediately. I recognized some of the faces in the branch and said hi and informed the staff I wanted to speak to the Manager. I was asked to take a seat and later I was walked to the branch manager's office. I explained my situation to the manger thinking the most experienced person was the right person to ease my worry. What I encountered next left me numb in disbelief; the manger asked me questions like "where did you get this check" "where are the funds" "do you know these people sending you this check" - I knew she was assuming fraud or worst theft. I explained that this check was a State Grant check and the funds were used to pay my Patelco credit card which I use for business expenses but she said she could not see the money and kept asking where it was. The teller had to explain in Bank terms what had happened that the check was used to pay an internal account; so I thought maybe now I could get maybe some empathy. I was wrong; the manager instead told me my funds would be on hold for seven days and she will then return the check and I had to come pick it up and deposit in person. When I asked if it was 7 business days; she held her hands and started counting one by one with her fingers as if I was a child. I said ok thank; as I wanted to end this conversation soon due to the door being open and everyone hearing our conversation of my negative balance. I live in this community and I was deeply embarrassed thinking someone might recognize me. Before I left the manager also told me that I cannot conduct transactions in any other form but in person. I assume she said this because she thought I was committing a crime; why else would she say this? I know we all have bad days; and crime is on the rise with this recession but we should show some empathy to others as we are all suffering some way during these tough times and not all of us are bad people. My credit Union had always been very warm and welcoming but I understand staff changes and new cultures are introduced. read more

I have been a customer of Patelco since 1972 when I was hired with Pac Tel & Tel. I haven't had any major problems with Patelco & appreciate their great service, professionalism & friendliness. The only 'wish' is that they opened a branch again in Santa Cruz but it's doable with being able to take cash out via ATM with sister credit unions & deposit via mobile app. Only a few exceptions to that with large checks. We had a great experience opening my 14 year olds first bank account with Leo and Phuong today. They were very helpful and friendly. This is a new branch and it's very clean and well organized. My son opened his first account there last year and we've had good experiences whenever we've gone in. My only complaint is that Patelco didn't run it's $50 referral program this year due to Covid. read more

I called to refinance my auto loan. I spoke with Yaveth. He was truly amazing! He really worked for me with corporate. He did it all so calmly. He was very friendly and kind. I'm a regular at this location and visited on the 1st of December for my payment. One of the customers was not listening to the young lady(teller) that was telling her to put her mask on, and I didn't see management step in and interfere to ensure that the tellers and other customers are not at risk because of one customer. I usually am satisfied with their service, and Marry is a great manager, but I didn't see that today. I think more should be done when we are in the middle of a pandemic. read more

I have to comment on Mark L. yelp review because I was there while this was happening. I have to say Mark L was acting like a 5 year old and was trying to bully the staff working that day. The Manager simply asked Mark to put on a mask just like everyone else that was in there. He did not want to stating he had some medical condition that would not allow him to but had noting to show the staff from any doctor proving his claims. He threw a temper tantrum and threw his ID and bank card at the teller who had nothing to do with this and was sitting there quietly. The manager was professional in everyway she handled the situation. She simply Told Mark L. If you do not want to put on a mask I can kindly go outside with the bank laptop and cash your check for you. She never raised her voice or was rude. That's when he started saying really stupid comments showing everyone that was in there really how bright he is! Hopefully Mark L. will read this and understand that she did not make the rule that we have to wear a mask. She is simply doing her job to protect customers, her staff and herself. For over a year I have been trying to get reimbursed for a CASHIER'S CHECK that never was cashed by the recipient I sent it too. A CASHIER'S check is supposed to inviolate, sacred, meant to redeem itself for cash without question. On 20 Dec 2022 I spoke to Beatriz Lazaola, Manger at the Cherry Ave Branch. I was impressed by her professionalism and friendliness she wanted to get my money back to me "By Christmas". Jennifer Mink, Manager Member Experience, that my Money Market account has been credited the amount in question. Were it not for Beatriz I would have not gone back to the bank and tried one more time to get my money back. She should be applauded. The question I would ask, (if I were PATELCO), is why wasn't this resolved positively, in my favor 2 1/2 years ago? Did individuals fail, or did the PATELCO system fail? This bank is NOT TO BE TRUSTED. It took them 2 1/2 years to resolve a simple claim. They have kept on to my only proof that the cahier's check existed. They never issued a written apology. AVOID this bank at all costs. If you are a member, FLEE with all your money, NOW! IF you are an employee: FInd better employment. read more

On August 31, 2022, I went to Patelco Bank on Cherry Ave to close my account. To my surprise the teller (with the thick eye makeup) who was rude and dismissive of me, asked me to "Sign here!". I asked her "Why?". She pressured me again to sign. Again, I asked "Why?" She never gave me an explanation. She never talked to me. She was abusive and seemed in a hurry to get rid of me and get to the next customer. I went home sad, surprised, shocked, and angry. I returned with my bank statement. Mike Lam, a member service representative, took me into his office (102) and said, "You have been robbed by Microsoft". My friend then called Microsoft and upon going into my computer confirmed that I had been hacked. There were multiple debits, all on April 1, 2022, showing a series of debits for $21.64, until $400 was exhausted. I was left with 1 penny in one account and one dollar in another account. The teller rudely asked me "Do you want the penny?". Patelco should have offered to start an "Incident" claim to begin an internal investigation. Upon proving the fraud. They need to return my $400. or whatever the Microsoft or the alleged fraudster stole from me. I will begin the process of complaining to all appropriate agencies. read more
