We went in for the first time very recently. It was our first time in. I wasn't sure how much tea would be needed to make the flavor of iced tea that used to be served by my favorite restaurant that's subsequently out of business. I am a daily gallon iced tea drinker so trust me when I say, you definitely want to recruit me as a customer. I just needed help getting there. I mean honestly when you've used teabags most of your life for iced tea perhaps you've never weighed the teabag to see how much it takes... I mean it's pretty basic... When you want to build recurrent customers, you want to help people feel successful so that they also become lovers of whatever it is you're selling... It's not rocket science. There were two employees working. One was really unhelpful but fortunately, the second person at least got some products in my hands. Neither really weren't helpful in the way that you want as a new customer. When I think of it from the business owners perspective, when a new customer has walked in the door and they're not sure how to use your product, it's definitely an opportunity. Especially when it's something that holds potential for recurrent purchases. I was unsure how much tea would be needed to make a pitcher of tea and the response I got was very unhelpful "well I can't answer that because I don't know the vessel you're going to put your tea in". I could describe my "vessel" if asked- a 1 gallon glass tea pitcher. In my business, I am most successful when I ask the right questions instead of expecting people to be specialists in something that perhaps they've never gone through, purchased or done before. Instead of being curious with the customer in order to help me achieve my goal and be successful right off the top, I was on my own. The female employee didn't seem like she wanted to be bothered at all. I was frustrated but not quite enough to walk out bc being empty-handed would not help. The male employee stepped in and was able to help a bit more. It definitely wasn't perfect because I got the comment about the "vessel", but at least I was able to figure it out enough to make a purchase. If they would've worked with me at least a little bit, I would've happily spent twice as much and wouldn't have to go back a week later! The tea itself is delicious. The ambience is wonderful... The problem was the people... Fortunately, not enough of a problem that will impede me from going back today but certainly enough for me to take time out of a busy day today to write a review. I hope somebody actually reads this to make things better for the next person! All we needed was a but of kindness and perhaps a bit of teaching about techniques & products. You know once somebody gets interested in something then you might have a customer for life. These days in this economy, no one should be taking customers for granted... Just saying. Path of Tea is one of the longest running purveyors of artisanal organic and herbal tea in Houston. I have known of this tea spot's existence for years and frequently pass by while driving along West Alabama. To be perfectly honest, I am really more of a Tea Sip kind of person and still lament the closure of that Heights institution. For me, 19th Street isn't the same without it. Path of Tea is a totally different kind of operation, however. As for ambience, although I did enjoy looking at some of the decor (hanging fixtures, wall art, etc.), the overall design of the interior felt a bit dated and I would classify the lighting as dim. When we walked in, the guy who works the counter was actually seated and seemed to blend in with the clientele. So, initially, it wasn't clear who's minding the store, so to speak. I thought the guy's communication was on the dry side, but was really more interested in the offerings to focus much on that. The tea I ordered was just OK (peach and apricot blend, as I recall). My guest enjoyed their tea and cookie, but for myself, my heart is still with Tea Sip and it will probably take a long time for me to find a shop of that caliber. Parking, as I recall, was fairly easy as it is towards the end of a strip center. Overall, I would rate this business a 3/5. read more

We got to choose our cups from a shelf near the register and were poured our first cup. I'd recommend allocating at least 45 minutes to unwind, sip, and chat. When you arrive, there is a counter with samples of over 100 teas that you can smell to determine which you'd like to try! The tea room has a wonderful subtle blend of aromas from all the brewed teas! The staff are all really friendly and helpful in helping you decide which tea to get. Echoing other reviews, they let you smell the leaves and provide as much information about the tea as possible before you decide. The teas are reasonably priced for a large pot. And you get to choose your tea cup from an eclectic array on the shelf. When I went it was a little busy, and therefore noisy, but nothing that can't be tuned out with earbuds. Cute little tea shop. It's not a shop where you pick out your own tea, FYI. All the tea is behind the counter and you choose from the menu. Then, they bag it for you. If you want to smell something, you can ask. I recommend looking at their menu in advance so you more or less know what you want. Personally, I think I prefer being able to walk around and choose my teas. They have a fantastic selection of teas (see menu photo). Also, their teas are all organic which is a plus. I tried two types of Rooibos -- Chai & Georgia Peach. Both are pretty good but not blends I'd return to. I would love to try some of their other teas though. Path of Tea is a cozy shop that I must have driven by many times before and somehow never noticed. I found the shop through Yelp and was very excited to try it out! I came by with a small group on a weekday morning to sample some teas. I wouldn't consider myself a tea connoisseur (I am more of a coffee kind of gal), but I do have an appreciation for it. The gentleman that was helping us arrived a bit late to open up the shop and I think it threw off his routine. He was rushing to set up and I definitely think he mixed up the types of tea we asked for when brewing them. He did encourage us to sample sniff many cans of tea leaves, but I was kind of underwhelmed by the flavor of the leaves once brewed. We also tried the matcha cookies, which were savory and surprisingly filling. Disappointed I didn't love this place more because I really wanted to find a great place to have a pot of hot tea + people watch! read more

So I recently came back from New York and I've been dying to find a cute place that specializes in tea and I finally had the honor of finding this gem. Where do I start? Their selection is amazing! So many different teas to try, you could come every day for 100 days and still have a different tea to try everyday. I loved how many options they have and how the menu was lined out. They have great service, everyone is very sweet and helpful. My favorite (so far) is the organic peach rooibos tea (101 I think) it is delicious!!! No sugar or honey needed! This place has the best tea and it's loose leaf which is so rare these days. I also had the matcha cookie and it was delicious! This has easily become one of my favorite places to just sit back and relax with a nice cup of tea. This place has really gone downhill. If you're trying to make a blend of tea on your own, you're required to buy a full 2 oz portion of every ingredient even if you need less for certain ingredients. So, you end up spending $15+ more on tea you don't need. They also used to mix the blend for you. Now? Nope - you have to take home six individuals bags and reweigh everything on your own because, remember, you only needed a certain amount of each tea but now you have exactly 2 oz of every kind. They also make the teas correctly, temperature and time wise. They are certainly masters in the art of tea, and I wouldn't know of any place that does it better. They also hold Gong shows and other events here that are well worth paying to see. The gong performer is a great man, with a unique history in Bhuddism. You'll feel the vibrations. A quiet oasis in the hustle and bustle of the city. It is the perfect place to relax and get some work done or have a nice conversation. It is one of my favorite places to study. There are about 10 tables in the shop. It is on the smaller side. They have this big rack with about 136 containers of different teas that you can smell. There is also a menu that has the name and number that corresponds to each tea. My favorite tea is the ORGANIC MONK'S SACRED BLEND. It's a flavored black tea. It's very full-bodied. I've also had the ORGANIC EARL GREY WITH LAVENDER. I always stay for a couple hours with a small pot of tea and get some work done. I think it's adorable that you get to pick your own teacup. I also tried their OATMEAL CRANBERRY RAISIN COOKIE and HAZELNUT TOWER. Big fan of the hazelnut tower. It has a strong nutty flavor, sugar glaze on top, and a chocolate covered bottom. Definitely try it. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the FROZEN MATCHA TEA. It didn't have a strong matcha flavor for me. read more

Surprised I haven't reviewed this place before. I have been here quite a few times and I really do enjoy it. This place is like a full body massage in one drink. The set up: 1. Come in and pick your tea. You have nearly one hundred to choose from, green teas, black teas, oolongs etc. you can smell them as well which helps sometimes I guess... smelling teas like smelling wine is just relaxing for some strange reason. Some teas are fruity others or brazen and woody. 2. Pick your size, small or large, they come in these cool floating decanters. 3. Pick your cup, but don't touch! The cups are sterilized so you have to pick with your eyes. Please don't find this out the hard way because you will be reprimanded. The cups are very unique and beautiful... artistic and one of a kind. This is one of the hardest steps. 4. Choose a table and wait for 5-10 minutes for you tea! The ambiance is something to write home about, literally. It is relaxing. Also, you can peruse through the unique offering of teapots and bowls all Asian descent. If you are a tea lover like me, you will find it hard to leave the place with just tea. I always pick up something cute for myself or a friend, because sharing is caring. I come here to relax and catch up on reading. There is always some folks here doing the same, but it's never full or hectic. I do suggest you give it a try for yourself. A zen quaint place to spend a few hours taking in smells and subtle and bold flavors. I got introduced to this place through a tea tasting. It was very informative and enjoyable. Every time I've been here it's been a good time. Everyone is very pleasant and helpful. You go to a counter full of small numbered jars that match a menu separately the categories of teas. You can open and smell them. Once you make your selection you can buy your pot. A small one cup you get 3 cups or so depending on size of cup on how you fill it. Don't fill to the top since it's hot and hard to hold. The large pot is maybe double that. Then you to to the wall next to the register to pick out your own Japanese cup! They're all sanitized so once you touch one you have to use it so be sure before you touch. The pastries are good especially the little bundt cake with a chocolate bottom.
