We visited Storage Master on 3205 Dutton Avenue on Thursday and met with the manager, Suzi. She was…read moreinitially friendly and helpful. She showed us a specific 10x30 unit we liked and quoted us $219 per month, compared with the $199 rate shown online for a generic 10x30. We particularly liked the unit's location and the fact that Suzi lives onsite, which gave us some comfort from a security standpoint. She also told us that, under a new California requirement, storage contracts must disclose the maximum rate a customer could be charged during the first 12 months. We appreciated what appeared to be transparency. Unfortunately, everything unraveled once we tried to reserve the unit. Suzi told us that, to receive the $219 rate for the specific unit she showed us, we would have to make the reservation online because the price would be higher if we rented it in person. The problem was that the website would not allow us to select or reserve that specific unit. My husband therefore made an online reservation for a 10x30 so that we would at least have a reservation in place, and then called to make sure it could be applied to the unit Suzi had shown us. Unfortunately, he was unable to speak with Suzi because she was not "on duty," so he was instead routed through StoragePRO's centralized customer service and an onsite employee named Danielle. Over the weekend, he was bounced between centralized customer service and Danielle. By then, the price for the same unit had already increased from $219 to $249. Danielle initially resisted taking a message for Suzi, insisted she could handle the issue, and then ultimately said there was nothing she could do. My husband called again on Monday. The price for the exact same unit had now increased again, to $279, just days after we had been quoted $219 in person. He again asked for Suzi to call us. She never did. I finally reached Suzi on Wednesday. Her first response was that "corporate" sets the rates and she could do nothing about them. After I explained that we had followed her instructions and tried to reserve the unit online immediately after our visit, but the website did not allow us to select that specific unit, she agreed to email corporate to see if she would be able get us the rate she initially quoted for the unit we wanted. She said she would get back to me early the next day. She didn't. When I had still heard nothing by that afternoon, I left her a message. Again, no response. So, within a few days: * We were told we had to reserve online to receive the quoted $219 rate * The online system would not let us reserve the specific unit we had inspected * The price for that same unit then went from $219 to $249 to $279 * We were repeatedly passed between centralized customer service and onsite staff * Multiple requests for a call back were ignored * A promised follow-up never happened * Even a follow-up message after that missed commitment received no response This was before we had even signed a contract or moved a single item into the facility. That is the biggest red flag of all. Once a storage unit is full, customers have very little practical leverage because moving everything again is expensive and disruptive. If this is how pricing and communication are handled before they have your business, it does not inspire confidence about what happens afterward. We decided to walk away and give our business to a storage company that actually seemed interested in renting us a unit, provided a written quote for the specific space we inspected, and understood that responding to and communicating with prospective customers is part of the job. Storage Master and StoragePRO gave us every reason to believe the pricing problems and communication failures would only get worse once all our belongings were inside and moving elsewhere became difficult and expensive.

From start to finish, the team was exceptional. This was a two-day move, which can easily become chaotic or exhausting, but they handled it with a level of organization and professionalism that honestly made the entire process feel seamless. They were incredibly thorough--every item was handled with care, packed thoughtfully, and placed exactly where it needed to go without cutting corners. What really stood out, though, was their efficiency without ever feeling rushed. They worked steadily, intelligently, and with total competence, anticipating needs before I even had to ask. Not a single moment of confusion or wasted time--just a well-coordinated team that clearly knows what they're doing. On top of that, they were genuinely a pleasure to be around. Polite, respectful, and easygoing, they brought a great energy into what is usually a stressful situation. By the end of the move, it honestly felt like I'd spent two days with people I enjoyed having around--not something you typically say about movers. If you're looking for a team that combines professionalism, efficiency, care, and just great people skills, this is it. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to anyone. They didn't just meet expectations--they completely exceeded them.

Southpoint looks clean from the outside and is super close to my old place. Before renting, I didn't do a thorough read of the lease, but quick skim through of number 10 included that owner and agents are released of liability and not responsible for, among other things, rodent damage. Concerned, I asked Colleen, the woman renting me the unit, if there was any history of rodent problems. She assured me there was not. I started moving in the unit around September 26, when I returned the following day, I heard and saw a rat scurry near the back of the unit. I called to inform the manager, Gina, that I was concerned. She offered to put a trap in the unit and have the maintenance man, Julio, check in the unit daily. I was flying out on October 3, and couldn't get to storage during office hours. Also, I told her I didn't think luring them into my unit or having dead rats in there sounded like a good solution. We discussed detergents. I placed peppermint soaked cotton balls and dryer sheets around the perimeter and through out my unit around my unit, October 2, 2023. I returned to my unit on October 21 hoping to drop off a small load and instead found rat feces and urine throughout my unit. I grabbed a couple of things that were sealed to brake with me. I was to overwhelmed to think straight. The next three days I spent carefully removing and going through the stuff I took from storage. I knew I was going to have to throw a lot of stuff out. On Tuesday, October 24, I called Southpoint to ask if I could use their truck to take my stuff to the dump. The woman on the phone said that they are not responsible for my things. I told her they are responsible for the facility. She told me that they, "do the best they can." I insisted that they should help me get my things out of there and she told me she would have the manager call the next day. Long story short.. when no one called the next day, October 25, I called again, expressing urgency and was told by the same person that she had written a detailed email to the manager. I missed the managers call around 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 26. There was no message. I was overwhelmed with the situation, and the stress grew daily. On Friday, October 27, at 11:30 AM, I had a junk removal service come and throw out all my furniture and most of my personal items. It cost me $700 to have the items removed. As I carefully sorted through what remained to see what I could salvage, I noticed something that looked like grain near one of the walls of the unit. I called Southpoint to come take a look. Julio the maintenance man came and vacuumed it up. Apparently the neighboring unit was storing some sort of seed. While the neighboring unit may have contributed to the issue in my unit, after seeing past yelp reviews, and given the extent of damage in such a short time, the facility clearly has a major rat problem. I never asked for them to pay for my things, as I understood the risk, but they offered no refund for the rent I paid. A couple of days after paying to have my things moved out and left an initial poor yelp review, Gina, the manager came over to tell me that if I needed to use the truck that I could, and that they would throw out anything I didn't want. While that would have been great, letting me know a week after I called and four days after I spent 700 dollars to have my things thrown out wasn't enough. While Gina was trying to be nice, explaining how the ongoing rat problem is difficult to eradicate due to the proximity of the lagoon and the neighboring restaurants, I made clear that I have rented in the Bay Area for years, even right next to the water and never did I have any issue with rodents in my storage. I told her I would update my review because she and Julio weee nice and seemed concerned, but my opinion on the facility remains the same it is a health hazard! Today is November 2 and I am still sorting through my stuff...I went from a full 10x 20 unit to a car load of personal property. But what is the three weeks of stress, cost of moving, and being told it is a risk not knowing who is in the unit next to you....I like you Gina, but that doesn't excuse what you and I both know is an ongoing problem. Please do something major so other people don't have the same problem. Oh, and if someone asks at lease signing if there is any history of rodent damage .... Be honest!!!! I have had time to read the reviews on yelp. I took a read through the contract, I should've never signed it and been more cautious. If I didn't want my things to be securely stored, I wouldn't have paid them to lease a space.
