Just picked up my car from Patrick's and might I say they did a great job. Needed new brakes, tires, and an oil change. Alfred who serviced my car was super nice and tried to save my rotors for my brakes but I knew they were far gone. So they replaced those and my brakes, their prices didn't break the bank which I was grateful for. Even though they were less than a mile away, we didn't make it another 50 yards. AAA brought us the rest of the way. My car's engine seized on a freeway due to broken water pump. I had it taken to a mechanic in my neighborhood that I had used for over 10 years but got an estimate that seemed outrageously expensive. I wanted to get a second estimate. My colleague recommended Patrick's auto repair. I called Alfred to get a quote over the phone. He looked for a used engine, got back to me quickly and his estimate to replace the engine was $3,500 compared to over $10,000 (from the first mechanic). Some of the price difference could have been due to used engine vs new engine but still I could tell that Alfred would do a honest and good job. He got the job done in the time frame that he gave me and replaced few other parts WITHOUT charging extra labor. I will definitely be going back to Alfred and will recommend his shop wholeheartedly. read more

I actually came here by accident. It is a "hole in the wall" kind of a mechanic garage that is awesome, honest and provides quality service. There are two shops side by side, make sure it states "Patrick's Auto Repair," don't confuse it for the others. Bottom line, my engine was making weird noises so I pulled in just to be on the safe side. Harry took quite some time to diagnose (1.5 hours) and said it could be fixed for about $875. It was my first time here so I decided to take it to the dealership as my car was only 3 year old (52,000 miles), the dealership took a whole day and said that it would cost me $4,900 to repair as I was no longer covered by the warranty (they also charged me substantially for the diagnostic). Huge gap right?!!! So, I took it to another mechanic highly recommended by friends and family, that guy said he could do it for $2,200. The $895 just sounded so good, so I went back to Harry and showed him the other 2 invoices for $4,900 and $2,200 and asked how the heck in the world he could fix it for $895. Harry popped the hood and explained where the problem was coming from. He shared how many hours of work it takes and the cost of the parts. He also said that despite the time he took to diagnose the problem (which I had gladly paid), he would understand if I chose to go with someone else. Well, his explanation made sense, the other guys kept their explanation short and would avoid answering questions - treating me like a village idiot. I also asked Harry to give me the bad parts once it was done, he had already saved it for me just in case I would want to see it. I asked if he always keeps the parts even if the customers don't request it? He responded that by law they must be prepared to show the part and allow the customer to take it if they wish to do so, although some parts have a "core" cost. My previous mechanics always gave me a hard time about this - it was like pooling tooth? If the part came out of my car and is broken/malfunctioning as they say it is, doesn't it belong to me? Well, Harry is the only guy that thinks I am sane for asking for it, he gladly placed it in a box and and in my trunk. He even showed me where the fault was on the part. Awesome guy, just don't be upset if he doesn't stand around to chat, he can't eat if he doesn't work. So he gets to work so that he could put bread on his table - truly an honest earner! It has been 11 months since Harry has fixed the car, friends and family that recommended me to the guy that quoted me $2,200 now go to Harry. I can't stop talking about him, I am a father myself, but I feel like he is a father figure - my auto pop (lol) P.S. Harry will tell you when it makes sense to replace broken parts with dealership (original), aftermarket, used or refurbished (rebuilt). Some parts just makes no sense to replace with original which can end up costing you 2-4 times the the aftermarket or used. A good mechanic will tell you what makes sense depending on the car, make and year as well as the particular part. read more

No such thing as an honest mechanic? If you still believe this, it's because you haven't met Harry yet! I've been going to Harry for years and let me start by saying that I moved to Redlands about 2 year ago ( which is about 70 miles away from Harry's shop) but I would never go anywhere else and I drive that 70 miles to bring my car to Harry's shop! Why? Because as a single female in my 30's this is the only mechanic shop I have walked into by myself and felt completely comfortable and absolutely sure I wasn't being taken advantage of because I'm a woman. Harry, the owner and head mechanic is extremely professional! He answers all of my (annoying) questions and show's me exactly what he's doing. Yes, I'm one of those people that wants to see what part was replaced and why. Harry always takes the time to talk me through the repair. Harry is also very conscious about saving me money where he can, I know unbelievable right?! If the part is available in both, he always gives me both the dealership price and the aftermarket price and lets me choose. I recently had some transmission problems. So I called Harry and told him what the problem was, after looking at it he wanted me to make sure it wasn't covered under my car's warranty so he didn't touch it until I went to my dealer and made sure that the repair was not covered under the warranty. I'm sure most mechanics would not have advised me to do so first, instead they would've just taken my money and done the work themselves. Of course, when I went to the dealership they gave me some song and dance about how this problem wasn't covered under my warranty (Damn VW dealership!). Anyways, Harry took care of it and even advised me to use the dealership parts instead of the aftermarket since the difference between the two wasn't very big. I have referred all of my friends and family to Harry, and would highly recommend him to anyone! The shop can be a bit hard to find since it's behind another building in a big lot, but once you find him you won't go anywhere else. read more
