After attending a local church festival in the area, I visited Patron Mexican Grill with a few family members for dinner. I am not local to the Cranberry area, so this was my first time visiting this restaurant. This location of Patron Mexican Grill is right off of 79 and 228, and they have other locations in the greater Pittsburgh area. Since is is off a more major roadway, it is a little tricky to get into if you have never been before. There is not a direct turn from 228 into the parking lot, you have to turn off slightly before the restaurant. However, is it nothing crazy and is manageable to locate with a GPS. There is a large private parking lot for Patron, and also the multiple businesses nearby. You will not have any issue finding parking that is close to the entrance here! There is a lot of seating, and many different options - booths, low tables, bar seating, and even a patio. This restaurant will have no issues accommodating your party of any size. The place is decorated nicely, and it gives an elevated experience when dining inside. Truly, it feels like you stepped into a restaurant right off the street in Mexico and are under the stars and lights! We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday evening in August, and it was not very busy. A few other groups and couples were dining in on this night, but the majority of the restaurant was empty. Thus, we were seated immediately and served complimentary Chips and Salsa. My mom and sister ordered the Frozen Strawberry Margarita. They both opted for the 12-ounce size. The presentation was great, as they come with a sugar rim, lemon wedge, and lime wedge. I also thought that for the price, they were a great value. Once we had munched on the chips for awhile, we decided to order a Queso Dip to have along with the salsa. The Queso came, and it was pretty good. However, it does not come with chips, just FYI! The chips here are not bottomless, as you have to pay for refills. I was disappointed that we had to pay for more chips, even with ordering a more "premium" dip. Since this is rather unusual for a restaurant of this type, I was quite surprised to learn this. From the time we ordered until the time our entrees came, it was about 15 minutes, so very quick. Each of us got our own entree. My mom ordered the Taco Salad. The idea behind this is better than the actual execution. It comes in almost an extra-large taco shell with a deconstructed salad on top. Since it is in the shell, it was hard to combine and get a full bite out of. Also, the tomato was quite literally just an entire slice. This is one of those dishes that is cute for a picture, but unrealistic otherwise. My sister ordered a A-la-carte Beef Hard Shell Taco with Cheese and Lettuce, a A-la-carte Chicken Enchilada, and a side of Mexican Rice. She enjoyed her meal and did not have any issues. I also thought that for the prices of the a-la-carte items, the portions were pretty good. I ordered one of the Patron Especialidades, Carnitas, which came with pork tips, rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, jalapenos, and tortilla on the side. On the menu, this is marked as a Patron Signature Dish. Typically, I will order Carnitas at a new Mexican restaurant to be able to compare it to others I have had before. Unfortunately, this was just not good. The meat was extremely hard to chew and definitely overcooked. You expect this type of meat to be tender and moist, and this was the exact opposite. I am usually someone who can eat just about anything and enjoy it, but this was not good. I am not sure if it has been sitting for too long, or what the issue was, but I would strongly recommend against ordering this from here. The other aspects of the dish were fine, but considering the meat is the main part of the dish, this gets a thumbs down from me. Overall, I thought this place was expensive when compared to other restaurants with similar menus. On top of that, they seem to nickel and dime here, such as not giving refills on the chips. There were some items that were worth the value, but you need to be careful about what you are ordering. Our experience here was less than average. The food seemed to be hit or miss, as we enjoyed the appetizers and drinks, but 2 out of the 3 entrees we ordered were disappointing. I thought it was slightly expensive, but it seems like the portion sizes are generous. Service as a whole was average, could have been better could have been worse. I am not sure if I would choose to eat here again on my next trip to this area, but I am not completely against giving it another try to see if my visit just happened on an off day. read more

Food is average no complaints. Asked waitress about happy hour or specials, she pointed to list including $2 queso so I ordered one plus dinner. Bill didn't reflect happy hour price which was printed at 4:18! Happy hour started at 4. When I pointed out price discrepancies she said oh it's because I Rand your order at 3:51 She never said a word. Indicated lack of training and good customer service. This place has a nice Mexican decor that is spacious enough for a larger gathering with bench/booth style tables by the windows or open seating areas for larger groups. The food is very affordable in pricing range. You get free nachos with salsa that is refillable. The waitress was friendly and food didn't take too long for a Friday night. Lots of on site parking in front in the plaza. My friends got tacos and I opted for their specialty Beef plate which tasted b flavorful and just the right amount to fulfill my hunger.3.6 stars overall, decent place read more

I was just there last week and I go there quite often. The menu is extensive and the food is good. Chris, the bartender makes a great drink and pours a good Mexican draft beer. Parking is never a problem and the prices are moderate with good size portions. The hostess on duty is always friendly and cheerful which sets the tone for your dinner or just to have a few drinks in a typically Mexican surrounding. Give it a try. Came here for a linner on a Saturday. The bar was packed with two large groups so a bit noisy, but I expect that at a bar. The bartender Kris was nice - not pushy and attentive. Ordered a beer and chips and salsa came out quick. He had some green habanero sauce I added to the salsa and it had great flavor and a good kick. Wasn't starving so ordered an a la carte chile relleno. It came out in good time and had great flavor. A little salsa on it and was great. I work long hours and get off late just about every darn day! Most places close at 9 pm and by the time I am ready to eat, my options are very limited and mostly fast food. I recently found out that Patron opened up in Cranberry and open until 10 pm on most days so I gave it a try one night. I believe I now have found my place for enchiladas! I am quite particular about super hot enchiladas and a super hot plate. A Mexican place is not truly Mexican if their plates aren't super hot coming out to your table. Why? Because 1) food is super hot and not just warm or cold and 2) the food STAYS hot for the duration while you eat. I also ask for onions, cilantro and tomatillo sauce also to kick up the spice and flavors. I also think their complimentary chips and salsa is much welcomed as well. I have been coming often but lately have gotten my orders mixed up or wrong and the manager was not willing to adjust the bill. I bit disappointed but I still recommend. 3 stars. read more

I have eaten there now 3 times, and every meal has been satisfying with ample portions. Their margaritas are good. We've had the spicy, mango all on the rocks and they didn't disappoint. They even run daily specials. We had a party of 7 so they added the gratuity to the bill. The service was exceptional so we even added $10. It is decorated cute and even has out door dining, plus wall to wall TV's with every sport on a different wall. I like the chili relleno but their refried beans and rice were pretty good too. Being a big fan of Mexican cuisine, we love the atmosphere of Patron as well as their diverse menu. They have classic Mexican dishes that are absolutely delicious. I'm obsessed with the carne asada street tacos, the carne asada is so flavorful and the corn tortillas they come on compliment them well. Unfortunately, my recent visit to Patron cranberry was marred by a recurring issue that left a sour taste in my mouth, quite literally. On not one, but two occasions, my companions and I found stuff in our beers. Hard queso which was not thoroughly washed and we found out after the glass was half empty. First time we let it go which is literally not okay but we didn't want to create any drama. Then they changed it and there was a pubic looking thick hair on the foam.Not only was this an unsightly and unappetizing sight, but it also raised concerns about the overall cleanliness and hygiene standards of the establishment. While the staff did address the issue promptly by replacing our beers, taking our charge off but their attitude towards us was less than desirable. Instead of acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, they made us feel as if we were intentionally causing trouble. This lack of empathy and understanding only added insult to injury. Thank god we didn't order queso or they would have blamed us! I hope that the management of this restaurant takes this feedback seriously and takes immediate steps to rectify the issues at hand. It is crucial that they reevaluate their sanitation procedures and ensure that incidents like these do not occur in the future. My experience here was good but not great. For an appetizer I ordered the fiesta dip and the texture of the meat threw me completely off so I didn't really enjoy it much. For my entree I ordered two chicken street tacos and one steak, the tacos were huge and the corn tortillas were not to my liking at all but I did enjoy the sauce served with them. My friend tried the steak fajitas and enjoyed them but was disappointed by the portion of meat served. It was literally overloaded with grilled veggies, which i love and didn't mind having a bite of. The place was packed so I figured it was a pretty popular restaurant for this area. The food and service was decent but nothing to rave about. Have always been to the location in Wexford when I lived in Pa. While visiting the area I learned a Patrons was now in Cranberry. I opted to visit the Cranberry location while in town during my visit from Tampa. This location used to be a South of the Border restaurant, which wasn't the best during its time either. The four of us went into this Patrons on a Friday evening around dinner time. (5ish pm). I ordered the supreme burrito, my wife ordered a quesadilla, my sister in law ordered tacos, and my niece ordered a taco as well. My wife's quesadilla came out looking like a giant soft taco. It wasn't pressed or grilled like a quesadilla should be. My burrito wasn't even wrapped. The ends were open and when you lifted it, it wasn't even folded together. My plate was hotter than the burrito and ingredients inside of it. If you're looking for Mexican, look else where. Drive a few more minutes to Max Mex, or hell wait til you're closer to a Taco Bell. read more

Chips were good and salsa was decent. I thought it had a strong cilantro taste and I'm not a huge cilantro fan but it wasn't horrible. We ordered the table side guac. It was really good. Our waitress got sidetracked and it took about 5 minutes to get some chips for the guac but I'll give her a pass because the overall service was decent. I got the steak fajitas. Overall really good. The meat and veggies had good flavor, came out nice and warm and all toppings were nice and fresh. Again I can get way better Mexican food at a few other places so this location won't be a go to place but I wouldn't turn it down in the future if someone wanted to go or if I was in the area and wanted some Mexican. read more

Not the worst Mexican food I've ever had, but not much better. Service is friendly but SLOW. It's super bland, made with obviously low quality ingredients. The guacamole was decent, everything else tasted like it was made by an old white lady trying to guess what Mexican food should taste like from looking at pictures in a 1950's cookbook. Nothing was burned or inedible, the orders come out correct, but nothing "good", certainly not good enough to justify $17 a plate for tacos rice and beans. I came here because I was staying at a Marriott and it was one of the restaurants to go for points and it was actually quite good. I ordered the sampler which was a lot of food for one person.. Id say if you are planning to eat a main course, that's more for 4 people. Especially if you want to get dessert later as they have some excellent unique choices. The fiesta dip was amazing. Quick seating, quick service and very pleasant too. It feels very festive inside and not so much for a romantic setting but great for a Friday or Saturday night to feel like your tough work week is finally over. I later had the street tacos with a tamale. The tamale was good but it was going against a lot of competition as the street tacos were probably the best I've ever had. For dessert I had the flan which was very good, but did make me wish I had ordered a more traditional dessert. Next time :) read more

Very disappointing. Both taco dinners were awe full. I had the fish tacos and daughter the street tacos. My fish tacos basically had a half of a small filet for all three 12.95 - not worth it. The street tacos shells where crumbled when they came and lacking taste. I kinda feel bad for the server having to work here she was nice but has to deal with serving bad over priced food. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant to go to in the Greater Pittsburgh area. I always order the Choripollo which is Chorizo over two chicken breast covered in queso. The dinner comes with a side of beans, rice, and tortillas. It is extremely delicious and filling. You also get the customary chips and salsa as well. A. This new locations is located right in cranberry on 228. The new decor and restaurant set up for Christmas is very nice. The tree in the main lobby is gorgeous. B. We were seated promptly and soon greeted by the waiter. Both my friend and I tried the fiesta Rita! It was delicious not to mention it was a pretty drink. The bar tender did a very good job mixing the drinks to make it look festive. C. We both ordered chicken chimmichanga's. My friend hasn't been to either patrons locations in several years and really enjoyed her meal. I however did think the chicken was a bit dry. My food at the Wexford location is always super yummy. I have never gone to the other location so I can't compare the two but we had a great experience. The vibe in here is laid back and all the decor is pretty cool. My toddler enjoyed pointing out all of the different murals and colors. The lights they have in there will catch your attention. Always a good sign when they bring you out some fresh chips and salsa to start you off. I ordered the lunch fajita salad and was surprised at how big it was when it came to the table. Definitely wasn't able to finish it but it was delicious. My friend got the speedy Gonzalez lunch and was also pleased with the portion size. The previous review complaining about portion size doesn't make sense to me. Wondering if their Wexford location is giving people four plates or what lol. Our waitress was fantastic and very friendly. They have little coloring menus for kids with crayons which can sometimes being a saving grace dining out with a toddler. I was walking my dog on the Cranberry trail, and decided to try Patron which is near the trail. I've never eaten here and decided on the taco salad. I called and placed the order. They had it ready in lightening speed - 10 minutes! The salad was well wrapped in foil to keep it warm with an extra bag of chips and salsa. All for a reasonable price. Decided to stop here because they had an outdoor patio and were looking to get lunch and some margaritas. The menu was pretty standard. We both had a frozen margarita which hit the spot. The queso had a nice cheese flavor and the salsa was delicious. Homemade chips too! For my meal I had the taco & enchilada combo. So filling! My enchilada was huge. The rice was moist and flavorful. The beans were nicely seasoned and cooked well. Overall a great lunch spot where they are taking all of the correct Covid safety precautions! read more

I ordered beef nachos and all that was on them was seasoned bees and some awful cheese. I always thought and got nachos that have cheeses lettuce sour cream and guacamole on them. These were the worst nachos ever! Waitress was rude and asked me if I wanted a side of lettuce! What a joke. Never asked if I wanted a substitute or compensated. Then she asked if she could take them! O no! I have to pay for them I will take them!
