That said, the atmosphere was great, and with plenty of TVs throughout the restaurant, it was a perfect place to watch the World Cup. We started off wanting to order the chicharron with guacamole - they were out of guacamole - cant blame them really - avocados are difficult to keep good. So sure let's give that a pass. Then we ordered the wings - on the menu states 12 or 8 piece. We asked for 12 to be told they changed the quantity of order its now 10 or 6. All while the price is the same or maybe even higher. After we wanted to order a caldo de albondigas for our 1 year old - they were out of the caldo section. Which meant the birria too. We also attempted to order the birria tacos. I really wanted to enjoy a drink. And that is why we ended up here. Unfortunately their drinks were the most disappointing. They seem to use syrups for flavoring. It did not give them a good taste. We ended up getting a huarache de asada which was good. The salsa verde really made it. The papa nacho appetizer was good. As well as the wings. We got a kids asada quesadilla. Large parking lot, in a strip mall, so no issues there. Once inside, we did have a reservation, we were seated immediately. The restaurant is loud. We started with guacamole. The guacamole was underwhelming. It lacked acid, salt and fresh earthiness from cilantro. The albondigas soup was 95% broth with I half slice of celery, a sliver of onion and a meatball. For entrees I had a chili rellaño with rice and beans. The pepper was a fresh pepper and a decent flavor. The beans were good but the rice was under seasoned. Patron's is turning out to be one of my favorite neighborhood spots for food. The food is good and stays consistent in quality. Service is also above par. They greet you and the door with a friendly welcome and seat you promptly. Servers are always pleasant too. I have gotten the tacos, which are great. Plenty of chicken and toppings in the crunchy tacos. The chili relleno is also very good. Nice big green chili. I wouldn't mind if they switched to a more spicy chili though. The enchiladas are also very good. Plenty of rice and beans on the side to complete the plates. I love that they give you complimentary chips and salsa. Can't believe some places charge upwards of $5 for chips. Here they get your appetite going for more food. Drinks have always come out great too. We usually come in for lunch and dinner, but this last time we earlier and noticed the amazing breakfast menu. There is really a lot to offer for breakfast here. We got some french toast to split at the table for fun. I will definitely come back in strictly for the breakfast sometime soon. They have a cool decor with a relaxed vibe. Plenty of TVs around to keep an eye on the sports of the day, but not in your face so I doesn't feel like a sports bar. But there is always a full bar available to socialize too. We came here on a Friday night with no reservations. We were party of 18 and they quickly sat us down. The service was great despite it being a full house and the food was good. The food came out quickly and our orders were correct. The entrees came with your choice of soup or salad. I got the albondigas soup with taquitos. The portions were on the larger side. Right away we got greeted with our waiter and they brought out chips and salsa. I ordered the Jamaica drink that came in giant glass, it had really good flavor. Enjoyed a delicious plate of Peruvian "lomo saltado" at Patron's in Santa Clarita. The taste was delicious. The beef was tender and cooked to perfection. The green aoli sauce that comes with it was on point. The only downfall were the frozen fries within the plate. They just don't soak up the delicious sauce like a fresh potatoe wedge does. We ended the meal with a fantastic churro and Peruvian ice cream we're delicious. Lastly, our server, Angel, did a wonderful job taking care of us. We will definitely return and order the same dish. First off, our server from Mario was Excellent. I feel that when I visit Mexican restaurants, they have mastered the art of service. They are wonderful people! Our fiesta Platter was inhaled like no other. We didn't even come too hungry. So when our dishes arrived, we were stuffed! The Fiesta Platter was delicious, it was the star! My husband was not crazy about the Breakfast Burrito. It lacked salsa, sour cream, all the flavorings that should have been inside the burrito. It was dry. I mean, you can add it, but first bites normally the first impression. My Chile Colorado plate was good. The beef was so savory, perfect with the rice. I am so full from the Fiesta Platter, so use caution when ordering another full plate for yourself. The Menudo bowl was good. We are novices on what to do with the Menudo, so when it was served with the flour tortillas and its onion, cilantro, spices side...you get to figure it out. Overall, great atmosphere! My wife and I had a gift certificate so we thought we'd finally try it. The restaurant is nicely decorated and was quite busy with Mother's Day dinners. We were promptly seated by Beto our server came right over with chips and salsa and took our order. We ordered guacamole, shrimp cocktail, shrimp ceviche and (3) street tacos (Chicken, steak and carnitas). The food was delicious, some of the best shrimp ceviche I've had. It was served with a couple of tostada shells and sliced avocado. Shrimp cocktail was large and had lots of good sized shrimp with chopped onion, cucumber and tomato juice. Let me set the scene and my mission: seeking excellent meatless meals in Santa Clarita to avoid long drives over the holidays. Since I love all kinds of ethnic foods, Mexican high on the list, when I spied Patron's where the decent New Moon used to be, I pounced on it for this past weekend. Results? Mixed and oh-so-close-to-success. And what is so right about Patron's may also be what is less so about it too. Let me explain ... What was great: *The decor, it's gorgeous, look at the attention to detail, beautiful one of a kind ceramics, hand painted vivid murals that capture the imagination, pretty purple booths, stunning neon signs (neon is so rare and costly now), and elevated, elegant light fixtures * The size of the space, so many places to sit, different vibes in each of the large rooms, one to the left of reception and one to the right. Booths, tables, high tops, counter -- something for everyone, including large parties *Entertainment, Sundays feature a mariachi group, there are giant screens in every direction, including Spanish language broadcasts *Location in Gateway Village near two other favorites that I reviewed recently. A pretty, treed setting and lots of roomy parking *The menu, vast, creative with old standbys and some unique items that I love, like tamales and mole sauce and a full range of bar options *The prices -- very reasonable considering the setting and the quality of the food What was less than great: *The greeter seemed completely indifferent and did not smile one time when we came in or when we left, thanking her warmly; when seating us she took us to the most remote, darkest spot in the place. Ordinarily, I would ask to be seated somewhere I preferred, but decided this location at least gave me a great deal of perspective for viewing the operations of the restaurant and the clientele *Our server was saddled with too many tables and so delivery was slow and a little bit distracted, even though he smiled, expressed appreciation and was assisted by a few helpers; when I asked if the lamp hanging over our table could be lit, my request went unheeded, either because there is a master switch or he forgot -- in any case, some response to me was in order. As a result, next time I visit, I will choose my own table carefully. What was good: *The food. We had a range of dishes and everything was good, solid, Mexican fare, Americano style (since I have eaten in Mexico repeatedly, I can say, this is a MexiCal place). I love the little touches like endless salsa (seemed homemade and chips), delicious guacamole, a huge Margarita (so strong only a few sips were tolerable -- braver souls would love it), shirred sour cream festively decorating the dishes, and generous portions. *Our server, he was a nice representative, if a bit distracted by having too much on his plate, literally and the helpers, all friendly and attentive. I think some of this laconicness may have been due to the off day and hour I always choose. So, I expect everyone is sharper on a Friday and Saturday night. Next time, I will ask to sit on the bar side, with light, maybe on a high top that I always like. I will come earlier on a weekend day to have brunch, the items for which looked very interesting. Whoever came up with the concept, decor, menu, and overall vibe, showed touches of class and genius. The execution needs fine tuning. We will give Patron's some time to work out newbie kinks and then I will be back to re-evaluate this review. read more

This review and rating are solely about the restaurant's happy hour policy, not the food or service. We came here as a family of four--two adults, two kids--on a weekday. The restaurant was mostly empty. When we walked in, I asked about happy hour, and we were told it only applies if you sit at the bar or in one specific area (which I've already forgotten). With kids, sitting at the bar wasn't an option, so we were seated elsewhere. Same restaurant, same time, same menu--but because we were in the "wrong" spot, we paid full price. I literally took two steps from our table to a barstool after we finished, and suddenly, the same drinks are discounted. That makes no sense. Nothing on their website explains this restriction, and when you're already asking about happy hour at the door, you expect some clarity. Instead, you get an arbitrary policy that punishes you for not sitting in the "right" chair. It's not about the few bucks--it's about the lack of transparency and how it makes guests feel. If a place is nearly empty, maybe don't make people jump through hoops for a deal you're advertising but not really offering. read more

Our second time here tonight. We were seated quickly, and asked for our drink order. Then within about 3 to 4 minutes we were asked for our food order. We told the waitress that we weren't ready yet. She did come back after several minutes and took our order. They brought our salads and within 4 or five minutes our food arrived. The server needed to move the yet to be finished salads to make room for the entrees. We felt very rushed. After a little while, still eating our entrees, we were asked for our dessert order. The food is very good, the service is also good, the prices are reasonable, but we didn't have a very relaxing meal. read more

I went there for the first time on New Years Eve, and was surprised that they didn't have a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Most places provide it, especially when you are buying drinks all night. I didn't care for the margaritas, and won't be returning to try the food. Eat here a lot and they always have great food and exceptional service by their wait staff. We were running late for dinner and decided to order to go. I will never do that again. The front person took my order and I had to repeat my order. We ordered 2 meals and only got one salad. I called and was told to-go meals do not come with salads (I guess I should be happy getting the one I got) This was never explained to me when ordering. I know of no other restaurant that gives you less food for to-go (and it is not clear in the menu). I will get my to go Mexican food somewhere else that provides salads with orders!!! read more

A personal pet peeve: why is their carne asada plate a New York steak when it's traditionally a flank steak? I recently celebrated my dad's birthday at Patron's Mexican Bar and Grill, and their new Peruvian menu is a delightful surprise! As someone with a deep appreciation for Peruvian cuisine--thanks to my mother's heritage--I often critique restaurant offerings, but Patron's exceeded my expectations. We had ceviche that was incredibly fresh, along with lomo saltado, tallarin saltado, and yucca - oh my goodness, it was all delicious! The portions were huge and truly shareable, making it an incredible value. The attentive staff made our experience even more enjoyable. I managed to snap a couple of pictures, but honestly, we dug into the food before we even realized we needed them! I encourage all my SCV community members to support this restaurant, especially if you enjoy Peruvian cuisine. While I've always loved their Mexican menu, I can't wait to see how they expand their Peruvian offerings.
