The Cinnabon style bun was completely cooked through, which I appreciate since the actual Cinnabons tend to be doughy inside. These ones are glazed with a bit of icing instead of cream cheese frosting; I enjoyed it, but I would have liked a little more. The chocolate croissant was generously filled with a good, dark chocolate, just the right amount, just loose enough to coat the inside. I didn't taste any orange in the orange poppy muffin and I'm not a fan of strusel topping on a muffin, as I like muffin tops. All in all not bad, I will give it another try if next time I have a weekend day off.

I think sundae construction is an extremely underrated thing that I, admittedly, can be a bit of snob about. They are all masters. Nearly all toppings and elements are homemade, as well as all of their own creamy, while not excessively heavy, ice cream flavors! Even the dairy free options are excellent, and I couldn't even detect a difference. I have been 3 times recently, and most recently had one of the best ice cream experiences of my entire life (if not the best, and all 3 times have been among the top actually). I had a scoop of "Pride" (cake batter with funfetti cake chunks) & a scoop of dairy free blueberry lemon poppyseed in a waffle cone. The extra large homemade cone was crisp and perfection. The Pride flavor was a rare instance of cake batter ice cream not tasting artificial, having an aftertaste, or being overly sweet. The cake chunks were massive. The blueberry lemon poppyseed was utter brilliance. A bright base with all the flavor of the finest lemon poppyseed muffin you could imagine with thick ribbons blueberry , I'll call it a compote (pure fresh saucy blueberry). The other 2 stops I made I ordered sundaes. The first was their May mocha sundae including chocolate cake sandwiched between 2 scoops of espresso chip ice cream with mocha sauce, a biscotti, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. The second was their classic sundae with brownie between 2 scoops of your choice (tiramisu & blueberry), walnuts, hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry. Both were phenomenal and I love the presentation. The assembly, ratio of toppings and honestly every aspect of the sundae is perfect. I go at off times so I love sitting on one of the 2 benches out front. So relaxing. They also sell pints to go. I can't say enough good things. There were a bunch of other flavors though, like a peppermint one and eggnog! Since there's a good number of seasonal flavors, it was hard to figure out which one to try! While they unfortunately don't offer samples, they do offer an ice cream flight with 6 small scoops for $13.50. Tempting, but I unfortunately didn't need 6 scoops so I went with just the two! A cute option nonetheless. They do let you mix and match flavors of the scoops you get, so I got to try two. The flavors were phenomenal, I was so happy to get try them. What a pleasant little surprise in the middle of a cute shopping area!! I certainly recommend it here.

The service was fairly quick considering there was only one person working at the time that we arrived and surprisingly even though it was a weekend there weren't many people around. The shop itself is extremely small and there are two entrances in order to get in however the second entrance to get into the shop is a bit smaller than the first it shouldn't be a problem for most but if you have a large mobility chair it may be difficult to get in. Additionally, the ice cream did make me thankful the walk was longer than I had intended it to be even though I don't really know Hartford pretty much at all. Lo and behold, I DID have Capital Ice Cream before at the Hartford Taste Festival when I went last year and tried their Hartford Dough Down. In fact, it was one of the places I had remarked I most wanted to give an in-earnest visit to when I talked about it in that review. Because of this, I have now gone to a place in-person after first visiting their stand at a festival (I still need to do that for Sandra's Next Generation one fine day since I had their festival food the day before the historic flood of 2024). This time around I got to see a little of what the interior of the place looked like. You can find some interesting fact about Connecticut while you're there. I didn't get to take too many photos of that, but I at least got to snap myself some lore about Hartford. Apparently it's one of this nation's oldest cities, being founded in 1635. Cool stuff! I'd love to come back even if only for the lovely history. They have an outdoor area you can have your ice cream in, and an area where you can go downstairs to eat I believe. It's a bit cramped when trying to order, so something to keep in mind. Thankfully the service is great, quick and efficient. This time I nabbed myself a large key lime pie milkshake, and I HAD to go with The Force! I may not come from a galaxy far, far away, but I needed some Force goddammit! Originally I was going order the Charter Oak until I'd realized there was key lime pie ice cream and I couldn't say no to key lime pie. The Force is a chocolate ice cream with Oreo's mixed in and whipped cream on top as well as confectionery sugar. Overall, it's a definitely a great stop for ice cream lovers who want to do a CT Ice Cream Tour. I'll even go so far as to say it is a great ice cream to have when walking by the State Capitol. While I am more partial to having ice cream at harbors and sea shores (think having the ice cream on a dock while my feet dangle over the water), ice cream by a major government building is still a very beautiful thought. Of the two things I had, I would definitely say I preferred the milkshake over the sundae. I think on summer days key lime pie ice cream is more refreshing overall. But both things were very good. For hot days, this is an outstanding choice! If you're someone who loves to learn some new history, definitely come here. If you like having ice cream walking by a state capitol, this is definitely the place for you. This might not be my number-one place to have ice cream, but I definitely think this was a tasty treat that I'd be more than happy to visit again in Hartford.
