In 1999 this place was run Mafia -style. My car was hit by a stolen car (Somerville a bit more dicey in that era) and was towed here. Within 24 hours this place or their henchmen had lifted/stolen the trunk stereo system from the car. Car was a total loss and so was the stereo system after it got towed here. Somerville is obviously getting paid off or in some kind of corrupt relationship with this company to still be using them. Shame on Somerville City government and shame on this place. read more

Pat's towing is the company the city of Somerville uses for its towing needs. My car was towed during a snow emergency in 2022, so I called Pat's to pick it up. While unexpected towing is never a great thing, I do think Pat's warrants a low rating from me based on my following experience: -the pricing is not transparent. On the city of Somerville's website, it states that towing for a snow emergency is 106, plus 36 a day for storage. However, when I got to pats, I also had an extra $50 charge added to my vehicle because they had further transported it to a different facility after they had towed it. I didn't ask them to do this? The car was in their possession from Friday AM to Sunday AM, and there was less than 24 hours from when the snow emergency ended (Saturday) to when I picked it up on Sunday. I can understand needing to move cars if they're stored long term, but two days and less than 24 hrs past the end of a snow emergency is not long term. This price is not available on their website or the city of Somerville's, and when I called Pats over the weekend, no one mentioned this relocation fee. -Car damage: Prior to my car being towed by Pat's, it was in great condition--it's a 2018 with less than 65k miles on it. When I picked the car up from Pat's, my battery was COMPLETELY dead. My windshield wipers had been raised upright by the company--I don't know if this is necessary when you tow a car or not? My battery was so dead that multiple jumps were needed, and a few days later the battery died again. Additionally, the touchscreen and entertainment system inside my car will not start anymore, despite being reset. This damage 100% is a result of my car being towed. -the only reason for a 2 star review vs 1 star is that the gentlemen who helped me at Pat's once I was there were very nice and professional. I was polite and professional to them and this was reciprocated. As having your car towed is a stressful situation, I appreciated that their personnel were nice, polite, and professional--not adding more stress to an already messed up situation. Overall: I understand that Somerville needs to tow cars during a snow emergency and I'm not disputing that. However, the non transparent pricing, plus the fact that my car's wipers were messed with, my previously pristine car is now damaged, and my car will at a minimum need a new battery and possibly a new electrical system or touchscreen/stereo/navigation unit--is highly messed up and not acceptable for a towing company. read more

Since the business owner responded, I'd like to update my comment further and give anyone else unfortunate enough to run into these men more details. Background: - Car belonged to my mother (later sold for 25k) - My mother unexpectedly and suddenly passed away a week and a half before the car was towed and unfortunately the title to the car was only in her name (relevant later) Events the night of: 1. (8PM) After I get home from work I realize around 8pm that my mother's car is missing. I call the police department and they tell me that Pat's probably has it. 2. (8PM - 12AM) I call Pat's many, many, MANY times from around 8pm-12am with no answer. I then call the police department again and they tell me I should probably just head over and knock on their door. 3. (12AM) I get all the materials together--mother's license, my license, mother's death certificate (informal version provided by hospital since official copy hadn't been printed by city yet), title, registration, etc. 4. (12AM - 12:30AM) I Uber to Pat's and knock on their front door but no one is at the front desk and I can't be let in. I call again; I can hear the phone ringing in the front desk just beyond the locked front door. 5. (12:30AM) I call the police department again and ask what I can do. The officer told me that he will try to contact Pat's/send someone over/etc. and that I should keep posted in the area until he gives me a call back. 6. (2AM) The officer calls me back and says that he couldn't get a hold of Pat's and I should come back tomorrow. Moral so far: Pat's is not a 24/7 company. 7. (2AM) By this time I had been there for hours walking around the premises and hoping to catch the employees on a smoke break or something. After I lost hope, I returned home and woke up early the next day to start calling again. 8. (8AM) I call Pat's and finally someone answers the phone. I explain the situation and they tell me that they won't return the car to me since the title is not in my name. Fine. Makes sense to me. I tell them I'm listed in my mother's trust/will that I will inherit the car, and offer to provide them the "Certification of Trust," "Proof of Trustees," and all required documents to verify everything I've claimed over the phone. Not only does the man over the phone not understand what I'm saying, he keeps repeating "if the title isn't in your name, there's nothing I can do." While extremely frustrating, I can understand his stance and that he's not paid enough to care. It is in this phone conversation where the man at Pat's Towing says to me something to the effect of: "Listen man, I get your mom just died, but I can't give you her car. You're going to have to go to court and the RMV to get the title and car transferred over to you. It's honestly going to take a couple of months. The car is going to accumulate thousands of dollars in fees and you're probably going to waste your time. If you ask me, I would suggest you just... you know, hand it over to us. If you do that, we'll forgive whatever fees it would have racked up. I think you shouldn't have to worry about this anymore. I wouldn't want this headache." I don't think I've ever been so disgusted talking to someone. I was sitting on the phone with someone who was trying to trick a kid (24) who just lost his mother and had to assume guardianship over his surviving little sister (15) to hand over their family's car because "the longer we keep it, the more money we're going to charge you. And soon, it'll be thousands of dollars in fees." 9. (8AM - 5PM) ABSOLUTELY LIVID, I call every department in the City of Somerville (City Hall, Curtatone, Probate, City Clerk, Police, Parking, Traffic, etc.) that will listen to my case to tell them what Pat's Towing in Medford is doing. After an entire day, and after receiving so much help from Phil in Probate and Commander of the Traffic Bureau James Polito, I finally call Pat's back. I tell them I have an order from the City of Somerville's Police Department to give me the car back (the "yellow paper" is what they called it) and that I'll be coming over to get the car back. 10. (5PM) I arrive and am finally able to walk through the front door. The guy who greets me is extremely unpleasant to talk to, and I'm eager to finally put this ordeal behind me. There's minimal interaction--I don't talk much, he grunts more than he speaks; I hand him the paperwork, ~$150, and sign the release form. I didn't need Pat's to make my life so difficult that day. I was dealing with the death of my mother, settling her estate, legal proceedings, and becoming my sister's guardian. If I could give this company a negative star rating, ideally, that would be an accurate representation of the deplorable customer service and overall business operations within Pat's Towing. After attempting to speak to an owner or manager for (5) consecutive days, I was continuously informed by the "dispatcher" that neither were available (despite being informed of their personal "weekly working hours"). Despite my numerous attempts to address a variety of questions regarding their invoices, consumer violation's, and an update of the damages incrued to my car during towing & storage, the employee proceeded to hang up twice while I was still speaking. Not only was I treated with unprofessionalism, disdaine, and bullying comments (comparing me to a broken record, small child, and an individual with no consumer rights), the employee refused to share his first name. Stating he would only share this basic information with a member of law enforcement. As a result, I plan on voicing my concerns to multiple online institutions (BBB, Dept. of Consumer Affairs, & other agencies specializing in these types of situations). TL;DR. Staff was mostly fine. Don't know what I did to get towed. Still don't know how to appeal the charge. Bit of a rough experience. Not sure why my car was towed as I didn't exceed the time limit or leave the premises, though, to be fair, all stores were closed by the time I went to leave. The gentlemen attending the desk couldn't let me know why I was towed either for whatever reason. He was curt, but not mean. Probably just got all kinda folks in there and he probably wasn't in the mood to answer my questions. He let me know I could appeal by talking to a manager after I paid. They did at least save me a walk to the impound lot and made sure my car was operational before I left. I understand that it was my fault that my car was towed, fine, whatever. But when I called they told me that my car didn't have any plates on it?? Went on a wild goose chase only to find out 2 1/2 hours later that the plates were STILL ON THE GD CAR. How on earth do you get that wrong?? I called them twice confirming it. I missed a bunch of work trying to sort this out. MUCH easier and quicker at other places. While in the office things were fine, but I ended up waiting over an hour in the lot to get my car and get out. For example: they watch the parking outside of our apartment and tow any car that is a minute over the "limit". They're supposed to check with staff inside prior to doing so, but they don't. When I trudged four blocks down to thier office from the wrong address that they gave me, and my car wasn't there, they seemed not to care at all that they gave me wrong information. They actHalley had the gall to act annoyed that I called them out for lying / giving wrong information IN A SNOWSTORM. Either liars or incompetant, either way terrible business people. In general, the employees at Pat's Towing are incredibly aggressive and horrible to converse with. After requesting proof of viable towing, ie pictures etc, I was attacked over the phone and told "I dare you to write a bad review or bring us to court." I'm usually not one for writing Yelp reviews but felt it was necessary to share after that statement. I would highly reconsider hiring Pat's Towing for any need as they are completely unprofessional. Given that response, the man who works the front desk most times is very helpful and calm. Even in the face of frustrated customers, he is fair and pleasant. Crooks. Obviously no one is expecting stellar service at a tow company, but when you put my life in danger and interfere with my job, it's another story. I am a special ed teacher. Honest. Hardworking. I woke up this morning at 6 am to see my car getting hitched onto a tow truck. Somerville called a snow ban at 10:00 last night. Guess what... I was in bed resting after a very stressful day. Not to mention the fact that it hadn't even started to snow yet...didn't even see a plow for another 5 hours. I would have had my car out of there in a matter of minutes, but that wouldn't have allowed this company to steal my hard earned money. When I called the company to find my car, I was greeted by a snarky woman who preceded to put me on hold for 15 minutes. I finally gave up and took the bus to the McGrath Highway location. Nearly killed myself on the unshovelled side walk. Waited OUTSIDE in the snow for another 20 minutes only to discover that my car was actually across town at a different lot. Good Job. More unnecessary time on the road when I could be safely inside my classroom....making an HONEST living. I understand the need to clear the roads to let the the maintenance crew do their job, but these people are creating more harm by forcing people to unnecessarily run all over town during storms. If Yelp has the ability to rate negative stars, it would be Pat's Tow Services for me. My incident was not a ticket or snow emergency related. I was riding my Ural (motorcycle with a sidecar) to my dealership for maintenance. Unfortunately the clutch system gave out while traveling on Memorial Drive by Mt. Auburn Hospital. I managed to get to safety during semi-heavy traffic. I called American Express Roadside Service, gave them my vehicle details, and they recommended Pat's Tow Service. The Amex agent spoke to the Pat's Tow representative and received a quote for $180 from Cambridge to Boxborough and they are 30 minutes out from my location. 10 minutes into the wait time, a representative called me back from Pat's Tow and said they made a mistake in pricing. It is now $200 for the tow because they didn't realize my bike was 3 wheels instead of 2 wheels. They require more money because it required more equipment and a special way to strap it down. (Hm... odd. This was the first thing I informed AMEX and they specifically found me a company who can tow specialty vehicles... Well for $20 more I'm not going to argue.) I agreed to the increase and was informed the driver should be here shortly. 20 minutes into the waiting period, another representative called me back and said oops, her manager just realized the vehicle is a 3 wheel motorcycle and that the charge is now $275. I can either accept the tow and the driver is 10 minutes away or I can decline it. At first I was like seriously?!?! I remained calm and tried to negotiate. I expressed my frustration with an apology to the representative because I do not believe it's her fault. I also stated that I feel I am being strong armed into paying more due to the predicament I am in. I even asked to speak with her manager. Unfortunately the conversation did not go anywhere and the manager appears to have left. I am told again, pay or decline and I can find another way. Wow... I was seriously shocked by the lack of customer service, professionalism and empathy. I informed the representative that I am accepting the tow at the $275 rate and that I will photo document and present it to Amex. 5 minutes after we hung up, I received another call who appears to be a manager. She informed me they are declining the tow request due to the conversation I had with the representative. She than hung up the phone. Wow! Crazy. December 2nd 2018, 19:46pm, I parked my car in Twin City Plaza in Somerville and went into Marshall's to pick up some holiday gifts. I saw towing truck sat in the lot but I was there for shopping. Little did I know he was there waiting for people to leave their car so he could collect their car, and all he had to do is lie ----"saw owner left the property". Like all the other reviewers have said, my car was promptly towed away from the plaza in Somerville to Medford as soon as I went into the store. I called them saying they've made a mistake guy said nope didn't. Begged him to check video footage and guy said doesn't matter $145 cash only release the car then hang up on me. There I was, at 22:00 pm at night stood in the cold in the empty lot, with a dead phone. And house key, license, wallet,. everything in my car, and trying to figure out how to get a Uber over to pat's. They then verbally bullied me around in the office. Steel hard Alibi and proof wouldn't work. Guy demanding $145 cash or GTFO. I paid $145 for crime I didn't commit, for my own vehicle which was stolen by pat's from me. Guy changed his condescending attitude soon as payment received. And I have to been through all those they put me through in the middle of night in December. I was terrified and I just wanted to go home. These people fed on your helpless and innocent because they know there is nothing you can do and you can't even call the police. read more

Don't believe them. After shelling out several hundred dollars for my unpaid parking tickets (my own fault, obviously), I called this company to have them come and remove the boot from my car. Keep in mind my car is less than 2 miles from their lot. I was quoted less than an hour for someone to show up to remove the boot. That's great, even if it took them the whole hour to arrive I could still make it to work without being too late. After an hour and a half passed with no one showing up I called back and they had "forgotten" to send someone out to me and quoted me another half an hour. When I called my job back to inform them I was going to be even later because of this, I was told to not bother coming in. There is another $300 out of my pocket due to missed work because I was mis-quoted the time by this company. AND I still have to shell out $98 to have them remove the boot. When the tow guy finally arrived to remove the boot he told me that he had just gotten the call only 10 minutes prior, and thats supposed to make me feel better? He told me if I have a problem to file a complaint. What a joke. I will be filing a complaint and I will be VERY surprised if I get a response. Wow, there's a lot of animosity here over a lot of things that aren't even the company's fault. The laws/ordinances that say you need to move your car on snow emergency days, or street cleaning days, or just in general are posted for no stopping like fire lane tow zone and fire hydrants, etc.? Those are made by the municipality (or the state in some cases). The people that actually have the tow company come down and tow your car? Those are the municipal employees too (who are usually just doing their job as intended). The people that ignore those laws/ordinances and get towed? Well, that'd be you folks complaining about getting towed. Yea the costs are high, but that's what your punishment is for being scoff laws- sorry, but it's the truth. I've lived in Cambridge my whole life and never been towed once, I don't know what's so difficult. And to the people who complain about things like waiting 15 minutes on a phone during a snow emergency for one of the main tow companies for Cambridge and Somerville: you aren't alone in getting towed on those days, I can guarantee you. I know people have their individual needs, but the chances are their switchboards lit up like the 4th of July in the dead-o-winter with half the city calling about their cars being towed. My experience with Pat's is as an mechanic and they are usually quite helpful. They are a little expensive, but they certainly do a good job and they don't make shit up about what's wrong with your car the best I can tell (though, I'm no mechanic...that's why we go to places like this, isn't it?). The truth of the matter is, between my g/f, myself, and my family we don't come here that often (maybe twice over the last 5 years between us), but when this popped up as a new review today and I read the comments I felt like I had to post something almost in response to what seemed like a lot of sour grapes over things that Pat's has no control over. read more

I got my car towed due to street cleaning. Obviously my fault. Called the Boston tow line to locate my car and they gave me the number for Pat's. It wasn't in the system yet but the lady on the phone tracked it down; it was just arriving at the lot (of course I had just missed my car). She was helpful and told me how much it would be and how I could pay before I arrived. I checked and these prices were congruent with what the City of Boston said I should be paying online. When I got to Pat's (my only complaint is the location, kind of a long walk from the T, so I ended up cabbing it), there was one person in front of me. He hadn't called the Boston tow line and his car wasn't at Pat's. However the lady at the front was super nice and tracked it down for him. She gave him the phone number and address for the place. She was also super nice to me and made conversation, well aware that no one is having a particularly great day when they show up to Pat's. I paid, and she showed my where I could find my car, which was in perfect condition (towed by flat bed, thank goodness) safely in the back of the lot. If I ever make this mistake again (hopefully not), I'll cross my fingers for Pat's. I'm going to be that person and give Pat's a good review. My car was towed during a snow emergency, 100% my fault for parking on the even numbered side of the street. I called Pat's as soon as I realized it was towed at 9pm on a Friday night. The woman who answered was very polite, told me they had my car, and told me exactly where to get it, and how much it would cost. She said that I could pick up the car 24-hrs a day and even told me that the price goes up at midnight so that I could save some money if I picked up the car ASAP. I headed to Dilboy Field, where they had stored my car. The guy at the lot was extremely friendly and polite, even though he had been up since 5am the day before. He even warned me to look for the City of Somerville ticket that would likely be on my car. There was a cop in the lot making sure everything went smoothly. My car was not damaged, just covered in snow and ready for me to pick up. These people are just doing their job, it's not their fault we park on the wrong side of the street and ignore warnings! read more

I would imagine being a tow truck driver in the profession of towing is parallel to being a lawyer, a cop, or a evil villain: People always assume you're a mean heartless bastard who likes a) swindling money, b) profiling people, or c) always doing bad things to mess with good super heroes. People hate you, regardless of whether you do your job well or not. That being said, my visit to the tow yard was as pleasant as it could possibly be. So it was my fault that I didn't pay attention to the street cleaning signs. I should've known there was a reason for finding a spot immediately in front of my apartment, but Nooooo. I had to be all cocky and snag the spot, THEN brag to my husband about how the parking gods favor me over him. Well, I awoke to a loudspeaker blaring about cars being ticketed and towed, and ran out in my pj's to move my car.... But it was gone. Called the city, they referred me to Pat's. Had to walk over there, but that was fine. I've been needing to get 10,000 steps in. Once I got there, and walked down the scary access road that runs alongside the McGrath highway, I went into a sketchy office with two men sitting behind a glass partition. I can only imagine how many super pissed people come and try to start smack with them -- I'd be behind the glass too! I asked if there was a frequent tower punch card, like if you get one free after five, and they both laughed. Pretty chill guys for having to charge $70 a pop. Alas, my car does have another little scratch on it, but I honestly don't know if that came from parking in general, or from the act of being towed. The best part of the whole ordeal? On 08/20/2015 my bestfriend and I along with my infant daughter parked in a parking lot (which was filled with other vehicles) and had no clear signage posted. We assumed it would be okay to park there for 2 hours max. Turns out we were right because the tow man said it was a 2 hour max. An hour and a half after we parked I see that they (Pat's towing company) are going to tow the car so I approached them and said that I am there to move the car and apologized for any inconvenience. At the point that I approached him, he had only backed up to our vehicle... He did not attach any hooks to it or anything, he simply just backed up as he was in the very beginning process of towing the car. At this point I assumed he would just pull forward so that we could leave but instead he demanded a $90 drop fee (even though the vehicle was not lifted or attached to anything). We respectfully declined and asked that he just pull forward so that we can move the car. He then became belligerent and called the cops. The cops arrived and at first asked the tow man to let us go but the tow man really wanted his $90. The police officers said that there was nothing they could do and threatened to arrest us if we did not exit the vehicle. It was at this point that I began recording video. In the video you hear the officer say "drop the car" after we forked over the $90. We are currently seeking the proper channels in order to get our refund plus more for damages. Pat's tow is not only unprofessional but they think because they do contract with the SPD they can get away with how they treat people. My car was booted and inside the car we had a drawer with rolls of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. It was for parking tickets. So I went outside seen the boot, I went into the vehicle to grab some items and seen the pats tow drivers license in my car. Check the drawer money was gone. He illegally unlocked my car door stole all my change, and also my cd's were gone. I called the police they did nothing. Told me to prove it. I said his license was in my car how else would I get it.This is one of many horror stories with them. I moved and well I have a sticker to confirm I am a resident with the privilege to park in the lot. Well Pats came in and towed my car. They refused to release my car. Even though they illegally towed it. I had to call the police and management office. They eventually released it after dealing with all these idiots over there. It took an officer to have them return my vehicle. The officer had to walk over and check the sticker. This company is a disgrace. Their customer service sucks and more half of their employees are the worse kind of drivers I have ever seen. I do not recommend them to anyone. Your better off calling a different company. Pats are known for illegally towing cars. read more

Whatever, it's a tow company. After my car got towed yesterday morning outside of my work due to street sweeping (for the second time since I moved here, sucks harder the second time, trust me - I now have the sweeping days for both home and work districts all over my calendar), I tracked my car down to this place. I'm posting to clear up an earlier comment - they are not cash only! They do take credit cards. And as commented by someone else, yes, the guy inside just waved at the parking lot and said your car is out there. Thanks! The lot is HUGE. Thankfully, a guy in the parking lot pointed me in the right direction. Take home message: unless you enjoy setting $120 on fire, don't forget about Cambridge street sweeping days. I couldn't move my car for street cleaning because the battery had died, so I knew that it was going to be towed. I called ahead and they told me that they'd be able to jump my car for me when I came to pick it up, which was really great because it saved me a call to AAA. Sure enough, they helped me to start my car. Unfortunately, my car actually needed a new battery and thus I was unable to drive it away but the owner was very accommodating and understanding. I didn't give 5 stars because the employees were very slow moving. It felt like no one was in a hurry to get things done, which bothered me a bit because my friend was waiting for me in her car. Also, I would be careful following Google Maps for directions to this place. It had me go on Rt. 28 to get there but while Rt. 28 goes by the location, and you can't actually get off of the highway there. It's best to not get on Rt. 28 at all and to just drive down Somerville Ave. In fact, the needle on the Yelp map is not accurate. The business is located on the continuation of Somerville Ave, which is an unnamed street. It's right past Medford Street (toward 28). On the map, it's the road that runs alongside Rt. 28 on highway's south side. read more

Just an update . Tom did EXACTLY as he said he would. I took my receipt down to Pats Towing and he reviewed it and was able to give me a refund!! He was professional about the entire process & I am happy with the outcome. Although they may have a few bad apples in the bunch ....Tom really helped me out!! Pats Towing is Trash. My car was parked with a sticker on it and I still don't know why my car got towed. I called them and the guy answered the phone unprofessional and was very rude. I got to the tow lot and the guy started getting rude and started calling me All types of cunts and stuff and swearing that the police had to come. I don't ever recommend this place for towing or anything. I will be reporting the manager for being ignorant. Matthew started calling me all types of names and was very discriminating towards me because I am a female. He was using all type of cunt words. They don't answer their phone. If the police tell you Pat's has your car, you can also use Pat's online system to look up your vehicle by license plate and verify that they do have it before you waste a trip, and then just go down there. It's not clear from their website, but they have someone onsite 24/7, so just go and get your car asap, whether or not they answer your call or return your messages. If you do it same day you only pay the tow fee, currently $90, which is a lot of money, yes, but fairly reasonable as far as these things go. Another review has very detailed directions on how to get there, which I found quite helpful. It is a short walk from Inman - just cut through on the side streets East of Windsor until you get to Medford St., which will take you under the tracks, and then when you are across from the CW Price/ Target shopping center, turn a hard right down the little access-road-like street (called Somerville Ave ext. in Google Maps) that is off to the side of the McGrath S on-ramp, keep walking past the glass place and you'll see the lot and the sign for Pat's, and finally the entrance to the office. The lone attendant was polite and apologized for not being able to get to the phone or return my messages. I could see that he was answering calls frantically while I was there - he said that some police officers had been there for a period of time and I guess that disrupted his workflow substantially. Anyway, you don't need to call them if you can verify in the online system that they have your car. They DO take credit cards. That seems to be a change from prior reviews. And in defense of myself for getting towed - I street park my car near my son's daycare and take public transportation from there early in the morning before the weird little warning car comes by. It's the 2nd week of July and we just came out of a holiday weekend. I'm in a mad rush because the little dude's diaper leaked overnight and he needed a morning bath. How the fuck am I supposed to remember that the Monday of the 2nd week of July actually happens to be the 1st Monday of the month? So that evening I'm carrying my son down the street, wondering where my car is, with the stroller and the diaper bag in the trunk. Yes, my mistake, but god I fucking hate them! read more
