First time customer although my friends have been raving about Patsy's for years. Residential area of Paterson, so on the street parking can be a challenge (get there early). Ambiance was old school corner bar, wooded decor, dim lights and large seating area in the back. First we had the calamari in a tasty mild sauce which was excellent. Mozzarella stick were standard bar fare. Now the pizza, very well prepared, generous with the toppings and tasty sauce and Decent crust. The staff was friendly, and remember CASH ONLY. Glad I finally made then scene and look forward to another visit.

Lives up to the hype. We sat at the bar and waited for our table. Forgot his name but our bartender was great. Big personality and let us know what we needed to try. Once we sat out waitress who had and even bigger personal was also fantastic. Pizza was great and the sausage long hot platter hit the spot. If it were a little closer and better area would be regulars.

Found this neighborhood gem during COVID while doing a recommended pizza crawl. At the time there was no indoor dining because of COVID. While we had been twice during COVID this was our first time dining in. Quaint no frills ambience steeped in a lot of history. Don't think much has changed in many years other than the prices. Staff there is warm and inviting. What makes the pizza so good is the crispy flaky crust...yes flaky. So good. Ordered an appetizer of mussels that was so good we dug into it before we could take a good photo. App came with homemade Italian bread which was so yummy. Bring cash or your ATM card as cash is King here...they do have an onsite ATM to withdraw money for dinner. Reservations are a must if coming on a Friday or Saturday night as the place is packed. Parking can be a challenge as this is clearly a neighborhood Tavern and Pizzeria. Highly recommend!!!

Hate that this photo is out of focus but you can still tell it stands straight at attention. Super crust.

Absolutely rock-solid classic bar pie. Been trying to get to this legendary tavern forever and it was worth the wait. It is an absolute institution for a good reason. The crust is super crispy and stands straight out when holding it up which is always a great sign. Very good bake on the bottom. The sauce does not stand out but they avoid the new habit of a lot of places to add sugar. Regardless, it is plenty good. The cheese is very good as well but the crust is definitely the star of the show. A bonus is they actually have seating, unlike several of the other top NJ pizza places that have either none or just a few tables. Great ambiance and very fun old photos on the walls. I have been on a quest to find the absolute best pizza in the northern half of Jersey and this place definitely ranks up there. I have had two slightly better pizzas in my travels but top 3 in the state with the greatest pizza on the planet ain't too shabby. Anyone from another state that claims they have better pizza than NJ is delusional. So, excellent pizza. Top shelf. Can't go wrong.

Came here after a friend recommended it. Was very pleased with the pizza. Its in a very random location. I'd read some reviews about parking being tough, but there seemed to be plenty of spots available when I visited (weekday early dinner). I'm usually not the fan of thin crust pizza, but I really liked this. Crust wasn't super thin. And the pizza, while simple (half sausage, half pep) was delicious. Warning: it does come out super hot. I'd rate this as one of my top thin crust pizza places in NJ along with Star. Cash only

I've been wanting to try this spot for a long time. It's been hard trying to order from them given their working hours, but I'm glad I finally had it. I discovered this spot from Dave Portnoy's review, giving it a very high score. Rugged looking from the outside but the inside is a nice family dinner type of ambiance. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. We ordered a large pie. It was piping hot, thin, saucy and crispy. My favorite part of their pizza is the crust and their sauce. The sauce has a different flavor than what I'm used to. I give this pie an 8.2...and 5 stars on Yelp!

You have to get here, period. It's a classic. The ambiance and the service is top notch. This place is out of a dream if you like hidden holes in the wall that are famous in an age and a time where they don't even fit! I couldn't detect that anything in this place didn't exist when it was first opened. You have a beautiful wooden bar, dining room, and even a phone booth! And now, the pizza. Easily on the NJ Mount Rushmore of pizza. This place is phenomenal. It is hard to add to what has already been said, but if you can make it here, please do. What a trip down memory lane, and what a fantastic pizza. The crust is a perfect thin, the cheese to sauce ratio is wonderful, and the sauce itself is top notch. I don't usually keep eating when I'm full, but I definitely did here.

Yes it does. It's the best pizza ever and even if you heat it up in the oven it's still fabulous!!!

Any chance they have gluten free pizza?

    Sorry no we do not.

I had stopped there one time to try the pizza around lunch time, and was told they only make pizza on Thursdays and Fridays. Is this true? I haven't seen anyone else reference this.

There's just something about them that you can't recreate. Yesterday, my buddies and I were supposed to hit The Belmont Tavern, but they were closed for the week. Rather than scrap the plan, we pivoted to Matthew's Italian Restaurant at the suggestion of one of the guys in the crew. What a great find. We were pleasantly surprised that an old school spot like this had somehow escaped us all these years. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for, the staff was awesome, and most importantly, the food delivered. We came out swinging with Clams Oreganata, Meatballs, Stuffed Mushrooms, Mozzarella Carrozza, and two different types of Ravioli. Needless to say, the table filled up pretty quickly. For dinner, most of the crew went with either the Veal Parm or Chicken Parm. A nice touch is that they'll do the parm with vodka sauce if you want to switch things up. I went with the steak special and had absolutely no regrets. Dessert was on point too, but I'll leave a little something to your imagination. Great food, great service, great old school atmosphere, and exactly the kind of Italian restaurant I'm always looking to discover. Matthew's is officially on our list now. We'll definitely be back soon.

The other kid loves bolognese and was happy with their version. A lovely small and warm restaurant. Limited menu with a handful of specials. It's not cheap. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, with both indoor and outdoor dining, but they were expecting us for our reservation and seated us right away. The front-of-house staff was warm, friendly and even remembered my husband from when he called to make the reservation. The food was the standout. I ordered the short rib, which arrived with quite the presentation, a huge bone topped with incredibly tender, shaved short rib and mixed vegetables. It was delicious and the portion was enormous. I shared some with my husband at dinner, took the rest home, and we still managed to turn the leftovers into an omelet a couple of days later! My husband ordered the double-thick pork chop and loved it. We also shared the fried shrimp and calamari appetizer, and both the marinara and aioli were excellent. One small area for improvement would be helping the younger waitstaff become a little more comfortable guiding guests through the menu. When we asked for recommendations and what dishes the restaurant was especially known for, it took a little prompting before we got to Parmigiano. Our server was perfectly nice. It just would have elevated the experience to have someone confidently say, "This is what we do exceptionally well, and here's what I recommend." Overall, though, we had exactly the kind of evening we needed. We brought a bottle of wine, relaxed, talked, enjoyed the atmosphere and genuinely felt like we had gotten away for a while. Tonno salad with fresh seared tuna was plentiful and packed with flavor. Speaking of flavor the porchetta sandwich was rich and delicious. Really this is closer to a bbq pork than authentic porchetta but still recommended. The star of the show is the chicken parm and eggplant parm. The eggplant was delicate, thinly sliced melt in your mouth. Luckily you get a huge plate. Chicken parm is also excellent and HUGE. While there is $10 plate fee if sharing a main they are fine if you order several items and share all. Very generous with their shaved Parmesan if requested. Prices on the higher side but not all that bad considering the quantity. This feels more like the type of place you come to with a large group than as a couple. Unless of course you are very hungry. The portions were healthy, and the price was comparable to the area. The staff was super attentive and always taking good care of us.
