First time customer although my friends have been raving about Patsy's for years. Residential area of Paterson, so on the street parking can be a challenge (get there early). Ambiance was old school corner bar, wooded decor, dim lights and large seating area in the back. First we had the calamari in a tasty mild sauce which was excellent. Mozzarella stick were standard bar fare. Now the pizza, very well prepared, generous with the toppings and tasty sauce and Decent crust. The staff was friendly, and remember CASH ONLY. The service was great but really is the only redeeming quality. The restaurant ambiance hasn't been touched in 100 years and has some historic value, but could definitely use some TLC. The salad was ok, but the pizza had the crust of Chuck E. Cheese. Was not greasy and was plain. The penne vodka was good but not great. Finally made it to this legendary spot! We were the first ones there on a Saturday evening as soon as they opened and grabbed seats at the bar. The bartender was super nice and took care of us with no issues and i felt the food came out relatively fast. For food we got a large plain pie, rice balls, and penne vodka.. I LOVED the food. This place is not just legendary for their pizza, the other food holds its own, no question. The rice balls and pasta were both so delicious and i was pleasantly surprised. The pizza without a doubt was unique, crispy, and amazing. I would absolutely come back here, i really really thought it was great. Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that the inside is SO old. I know its part of the experience and there's something great about keeping a place old and original but its not my thing. Totally understand it though. Found this neighborhood gem during COVID while doing a recommended pizza crawl. At the time there was no indoor dining because of COVID. While we had been twice during COVID this was our first time dining in. Quaint no frills ambience steeped in a lot of history. Don't think much has changed in many years other than the prices. Staff there is warm and inviting. What makes the pizza so good is the crispy flaky crust...yes flaky. So good. Ordered an appetizer of mussels that was so good we dug into it before we could take a good photo. App came with homemade Italian bread which was so yummy. Bring cash or your ATM card as cash is King here...they do have an onsite ATM to withdraw money for dinner. Reservations are a must if coming on a Friday or Saturday night as the place is packed. Parking can be a challenge as this is clearly a neighborhood Tavern and Pizzeria. Highly recommend!!! read more

Absolutely rock-solid classic bar pie. Been trying to get to this legendary tavern forever and it was worth the wait. It is an absolute institution for a good reason. The crust is super crispy and stands straight out when holding it up which is always a great sign. Very good bake on the bottom. The sauce does not stand out but they avoid the new habit of a lot of places to add sugar. Regardless, it is plenty good. The cheese is very good as well but the crust is definitely the star of the show. A bonus is they actually have seating, unlike several of the other top NJ pizza places that have either none or just a few tables. Great ambiance and very fun old photos on the walls. I have been on a quest to find the absolute best pizza in the northern half of Jersey and this place definitely ranks up there. I have had two slightly better pizzas in my travels but top 3 in the state with the greatest pizza on the planet ain't too shabby. Came here after a friend recommended it. Was very pleased with the pizza. Its in a very random location. I'd read some reviews about parking being tough, but there seemed to be plenty of spots available when I visited (weekday early dinner). This place is unbelievable it is so amazing. The pizza the salad the mozzarella sticks. Everything is amazing I get it at least once a month for a treat and it never disappoints. I have dined in before and it is just so much better I always go with my grandparents they have been going there for years and it is still amazing and don't even get me started on the meatballs on the pizza probably the best meatball I have ever had. I discovered this spot from Dave Portnoy's review, giving it a very high score. Rugged looking from the outside but the inside is a nice family dinner type of ambiance. Nasty owner. Just nasty. Stay away. The hospitality business is about taking care of people. It's about feeding their stomachs and their souls. Drove my father 35 minutes because he was in the mood for pizza, and this place has great reviews. The owner's wife was so rude and disgusting that I decided to leave and drive home instead of wait or eat in the bar area. Just because you are blessed enough to have loyal customers and a reputation that sustains your business, does not mean that you can be rude. As somebody who has "worked the door" in many, many busy situations, poise and manners are paramount. There is no food worth sacrificing my dignity for. I wish everybody would suddenly stop going, and this teach this lady a lesson. Sucess has made her ungrateful and unappreciative of those coming to eat at her restaurant. The sauce is uneventful, same goes for all their other sauces. Their meatballs were dry and chicken parm was meh. This place is out of a dream if you like hidden holes in the wall that are famous in an age and a time where they don't even fit! I couldn't detect that anything in this place didn't exist when it was first opened. You have a beautiful wooden bar, dining room, and even a phone booth! And now, the pizza. Easily on the NJ Mount Rushmore of pizza. This place is phenomenal. It is hard to add to what has already been said, but if you can make it here, please do. Went on a Thursday at 5:30 (had to make reservations) Place was pretty empty when we arrived but it was still very early. We ordered the broccoli rabe with oil and garlic, garlic bread, and a plain cheese pie. My father and I each had a house wine to go with our meal. The broccoli rabe and garlic bread as an appetizer were delicious. The pizza was also delicious and exactly like it should taste not too much sauce just the right amount of cheese. The atmosphere was definitely old school Italian and I loved our waitress. I don't remember her name but she was delightful. Telling us the specials, asking us if everything was good, did we need anything else and just talking about everything with my husband and my father made us feel like we were at home with a relative on a Sunday (If your Italian you know). Only thing I didn't like was the parking on the street. We parked pretty close but couldn't imagine on a weekend. By the time we left the place was packed. I also ordered to go a Chicken Parmesan Sandwich for my son after he ate it he said it was the best chicken parm he's had in a very long time. I heard about this place after watching Dave Portnoy's pizza review. I've never tried any of the places that Dave rated so I wasn't sure if I could rely on his opinion. I took a chance because I knew from watching his reviews, it sounded like he and I like similar pizza. I decided to get pick up. First bite, not going to lie, it was so fresh out of the oven that I burned the roof of my mouth and thought the pizza wasn't that great. It was good but not great. Sure, the crust was crunchy but I thought it wasn't that great. Disappointed, I took it home (a 20 min ride) and it was still hot! But more surprising than that was the pizza has totally transformed and tasted wayy better than when I first tried it and the crust was still crunchy! The hype is real! It's an amazing pie. Open the door and you step back in time. The place is charming and the service was good. Started off with a dirty martini, it was fair - could've used more olive brine. We ordered mussels which were served with the top shell off, easier for eating but made the portion of 12 look small. The sauce was good, but not great. We enjoyed the appetizer special of long hot peppers with sausage and potatoes. We split a sausage pie and was looking forward to the flaky crust described by others. I am not sure if it was an off night, but the crust while thin was not flaky but instead seemed hard and difficult to chew. When a colleague of mine spoke highly of this place and then Dave Portnoy gave it a 9.1, we HAD to try it. The place has that old-fashioned aura to it. Nestled in a neighborhood that looks like it hasn't been touched since the 1930s in Paterson, Patsy's is another one in a line of legendary Jersey pizzerias that you have to check out. I've eaten a lot of pizza in my life and this one definitely stands out. My wife ordered a well-done plain pizza (she LOVED it) and I selected half sausage and onion and the other half plain. Upon first glance at the pizza, the raised crust is distinctive. The sauce was very tasty with the perfect amount of cheese. The sausage and onion did not overpower the pizza and complemented it well. One bite into a slice and you can see what makes it different. The bottom is very crispy - almost like chewing into a well cooked apple pie. For those who love thin crust, this could be your ideal haven. I'm more of a doughy thick slice pizza person but it was still very good. The waitress was extremely friendly and Jill, one of the co-owners accommodated our reservation perfectly. We also ordered garlic bread and we're glad we chose it as an appetizer. It was very buttery with just the right amount of garlic. Give Patsy's a shot and enjoy your pie! read more

From the outside looks like your typical old school urban tavern. Inside very simple but all the memorabilia gives it character. Owners are so nice & friendly. Although we had reservations for 8pm on a Saturday night we were pretty much told they were done serving at exactly 9. So I had been hearing I about this place for awhile so I decided to make the trip. They opened at 4:30pm the day I wanted to order so I called right as the clock hit 4:30pm. Very nice person answered, took my order and told me it would be ready at 6:30pm. Fast forward to 6:15pm, I arrived a bit early due to the roads being empty and checked in at the back entrance, as instructed when I placed my order. PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY ARE CASH ONLY. I didn't know this was the case but they have an ATM on site. I paid and was told they would bring out the pizza when it was ready, which only took about 10 mins, which isn't bad for a Saturday night. Now to the pizza. The crust has a different taste and texture than other places I have been to. The dough reminded me of pizza dough with a bit of a cracker texture. It's not thin enough that it cracked when you bite into it but it was surprising. And absolutely delicious. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing. Patsy's has been around since 1931; from the looks of it not much has changed since then. I had never heard of Patsy's prior to the day of my visit, but apparently my dad read about them on a list of NJ's best pizza. As many other reviews state, it's not in the best part of Paterson but it doesn't feel unsafe. We were told that it was a 40+ minute wait for a party of 4; a little disheartening, but we were already there. The waiting area doesn't have much in the way of seats. The bar was already full and there was a small table with a random assortment of chairs there. Once those were freed up my family I sat and waited...and waited. Finally we were seated and by that time we'd built up quite an appetite. So to start we ordered a rice ball and antipasto. They were both solid; not the greatest, certainly not the worst. Just plain good. We ordered a garbage pie and a pepperoni/mushroom pie. The pies took another 40ish minutes to come out. The garbage pie had a lot going on, and not in a good way. I wasn't really able to discern all of the toppings, they kind of all just melted together. The pepperoni/mushroom pie was a lot better. This was surprising to me as I typically like pizzas with all the topping. It seemed that the 2 toppings played well with the crust and allowed it to keep a better form; the garbage pie had a lot of spillage. All that said, the pizzas were just okay. They were unique in that they were like a thin crust pizza but the edges were raised. They certainly weren't bad but I don't think I'd wait again. Carry-out might be an option if I lived closer, but alas, I don't. If you're REALLY into thin crust pizza I guess you should give Patsy's a shot. Patsy's isn't bad but it really isn't a 'must-visit' in my opinion. read more
