The Shrimp Noodle Soup was HUGE, even when split! And VERY good! The Pad See Ew with Fish sauce versus Oyster sauce made it GF. Their noodles are the widest I've seen and BOY were they delish!!! Pattaya Thai is a cozy neighborhood spot located in the heart of Mount Pleasant. We've been coming here for at least 15 years for authentic Thai dishes, served up in a comfortable, low key setting. Located at the south end of the Aldi-anchored shopping center on Johnnie Dodds Blvd, there's always plenty of free parking. The menu is large with lots of options for sharing. There's a full bar, but hub always goes for the Sapporo. We started with yummy Spring rolls wrapped in clear rice paper stuffed with sprouts, lettuce, rice noodles, shrimp and pork. We both enjoyed the creamy peanut dipping sauce. Our stir fry dishes ... his, with beef and mine, with pork, were fabulous. The huge portions, loaded with lots of protein, tender celery, bell peppers, snow peas, basil leaves, mushrooms and scallions were gently kissed with fish and oyster sauces and arrived at our table, quickly. The meal came with a more than ample side of brown rice. Preparation can be from no added spice to five star Thai spice. I'm at a two ... hub, a four. At this visit, eggplant was a special so of course, I did not hesitate to add my favorite vegetable to the dish. Prices are fair. Kind, hard working staff but food was just okay. Was hard to find this restaurant since their sign was not lit up at night. It is on the corner next to Project Lean Nation. Once we got inside, the interior was cute; has a nice, family style feeling to it. There were only two workers running the full floor and they were definitely putting their steps in. Unfortunately the food was pretty so-so. The Pad Thai was very sweet and didn't have the most pleasant taste in my opinion. The green curry had a hard abrasive spice that overpowered any other flavor. I'm not sure if it's possible to get it in a lower spice level. I came across this place last minute and I was pleasantly surprised. They offered a small happy hour menu but I did not indulge in any alcohol that day lol! My server came over right away and I told her I was in a rush so she took my order quickly. Fresh spring rolls - 4/5 I did enjoy these, I may be critical but I just wish the sauce had more of a peanut flavor and not just hoisin. And the pieces of pork I got was very lean and a bit dry. But when I ate it with the sauce everything tasted good together. The pad Thai I got level 3 spice. I thought this spice was moderate and I actually added a bit more of their house chili flakes and sriracha for an extra kick but I think anyone who likes a bit of spice would enjoy that level. It was a massive portion and I thought the flavors were on point! I had mine with extra bean sprouts bc I love the crunchy texture, the eggs and beef were so good. Since it was close to the restaurant's closing, we chose to get takeout. While we didn't dine in, the customer service we experienced while ordering our food and waiting for it to be prepared was phenomenal. I ordered the chicken Vietnamese noodle salad. Only a short drive from downtown and with plenty of parking and options it is very convenient for a casual last minute dinner or pick up. The portions are excellent and In always leave with leftovers , all for a competitive price . Very tasty Thai food! As someone who has lived in SE Asia and has visit Thailand multiple times, they make some yummy dishes. The chicken/shrimp fried rice had great flavor and was cooked well. The pad Thai was different than most pad Thai I have had. It was a bit too sour, but still had a unique flavor. I've tried every Thai restaurant in Charleston and the Tom Yum and Tom Ka soups at Pattaya Thai are the best I've had in the area. There are 2 sizes of soups you can order and I recommend the larger size because it's only like $5 more so it's better value, the larger size is good to share. These soups are packed with flavor, full of veggies and meat of choice (I prefer the shrimp or seafood). In my quest to find a local restaurant to satisfy my pho craving, I came across Pattaya on Yelp. It was a semi-late lunch, so the place wasn't super crowded. My server was friendly and prompt. I ordered my usual duo - fresh spring rolls and chicken pho (called chicken soup with rice noodles here). There's one spring roll per order here, which I appreciated because I usually feel like I just *have* to devour the entire order of spring rolls (usually 2-3 at other places I've gone too). So this smaller order kept me from stuffing my face. The spring roll's ingredients were fresh. The pho was just okay. I've had better, but I've also had worse. Pretty decent and unassuming Thai food off 17 in a quiet corner of a shopping center. I have done both takeout and dine-in. An extra point for being one of the only Thai restaurants open for lunch in Mount Pleasant. Staple dishes like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew and yellow curry are satisfying, but not spectacular. Pattaya Thai is just like the other reviews state: a hidden gem. I lived in Mount Pleasant from 1992 - 2014 and only recently tried this place out. My only reasonable explanation for that could be related to not necessarily noticing it after driving past it so many times throughout my life along with a combination of only in recent years (i.e., early adulthood) developing a taste for Thai food, specifically. That said, once I realized this place was there, I went and tried it out. The first time I went several years ago with a friend, I was so pleasantly surprised. We ordered fried vegetarian spring rolls and some type of noodles (I think pad see-iw), along with an exceptionally delicious dessert that was on special, coconut ice cream with fried bananas. Literally divine. So good that I ordered some to-go to bring home for my parents to try. After trying this place several years ago, I've recommended it to other locals who now order from there often. I've never heard anyone say something negative about this place in any regard. Since I do not live in Mt. Pleasant currently, I do not get to visit here as much as I would like. When visiting earlier this month, I took my dad here. He ordered cashew chicken, and I ordered Panang Curry chicken. Both meals were served promptly and were delicious to us both. The portions were large and made for great leftovers the following day. Others dining in the restaurant had soup orders that appeared especially inviting, so I would like to try in the future. The prices are reasonable and I seriously want anyone reading this review to try this restaurant immediately. Bring your friends. Bring your family. We live in an area known for good Thai restaurants so kind of snobbishly did not expect it to exceed our expectations. But it did!!! Service was perfect and portions were more than adequate. I ordered mine a precautionary spicy, although I may crank it up next time, it's probably not necessary. Horrible. Wanted to change it up for once since I usually order from Basil; it was a huge mistake. If you're looking for good Thai food this isn't it. No flavor to the food and it wasn't fresh. Not pictured but we ordered the "fresh" spring rolls, chicken pad Thai, Tom Yom Soup, and Chicken and Broccoli.
