Stopped here for lunch. The place is in a little strip mall, kind of tucked away, but very glad I decided to try it! I was greeted almost immediately by a friendly waitress who advised me I could sit anywhere I pleased. I grabbed a cozy looking booth and she brought my menu and took my drink order immediately. I decided to go with the chicken Caesar salad (I felt like I wanted something light). The dish was brought out in good time and I was impressed with both the size of the portion and the plating. The chicken had excellent seasoning and good char on it. So often the protein in salads lacks flavor, but not so here! The greens were crisp and fresh, and there was more than just iceberg lettuce in it. I couldn't even finish the entire portion it was so large, but definitely delicious. I'll definitely eat here again and try another dish the next time I'm in the area. read more

Place to eat after hiking Mission Trails? I recommend this place, Patty's Cafe. Haha or I would rather keep it a secret. Adorable cute dining place with the option of American, Mediterranean or Mexican. The dining decor was simplistic but yet slightly elegant for the diner feel. I loved the design of their booths - the blue! Plus their bathrooms were clean as well as the rest of the restaurant. I of course went for breakfast and to my surprise...ate almost everything. I ordered a Denver Omelette which came with my choice of hashbrown and toast. I'm a small eater for those who don't know me. Their hashbrown was delicious along with the omelette. Or my judgement may have been slightly biased as I just finished a 3 hour hike. We enjoyed our time here as it wasn't crowded but also because it was just hidden in plain sight! We had gone to a closer neighborhood brunch place but after being told a 30-45 minute we just called this location and they told us theres no wait. I had sausage biscuits and gravy w/scrambled eggs. The "biscuits and gravy" was actually just a single small biscuit cut in half. Gravy was pretty flavorless and needed salt. Eggs were those sheet pan type of eggs you get in college dorms where they cook them in a huge quantities, no like fluffiness at all. Sausage was fine, just the frozen and reheated stuff. The food was plain and not well made. The waitress brought me a coffee after I asked for water, no biggie. Also forgot my wife's side. Also asked how the meal was 5x. Just an overall bad experience where it felt like they didn't take pride in the food or service. How they have 4.5* on yelp is beyond me. If that's your biscuits and gravy I think you're better served just taking it off the menu. read more

We recently moved to La Mesa and found Patty's on Yelp. Our first visit was for dinner. We had the lamb shank with rice pilaf and the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Both were served with a salad, vegetables and choice of pita or garlic bread. The food was excellent as was the service. It took a long time for our food to come after we had our salad but when it did,?it was freshly cooked and hot. Took some homemade dessert to go which was very good. Ok I really tried not to do this, but. I used to really like this place. A few months ago I noticed all the waitresses that were so nice and efficient were gone. Only one waitress worked. Nice lady but did not know the menu well. Also it seemed like the cooks were also new. I ordered my favorite an omelet. No avocado like the menu showed, only two small pieces of bacon. No.tomatoes and way overcooked. I asked the waitress about the avo. She said if it wasn't on it it doesn't come with it. I showed her the menu. She brought me the who that was to come with it. Waited a few months to go back, thought it was just a bad day there. Tried again this week. Same thing, same waitress, same way overcooked omelet. They did remember the avo. But with a beverage and tip, $20 plus? For awful food? No thanks. Wonder what happened? Change of ownership? Won't be back. Sad, was so good. Now not many customers there. Patty's is one of the hidden gems in La Mesa and I've always had a terrific experience when stopping in to eat or carrying out to go. They have an awesome menu comprised of breakfast, Mexican, American, and Greek food. Breakfast is served all day as well which is really nice. I try to vary what I get, but I always end up getting the gyro platter. The platter comes with an appetizer of a Greek salad, and the entree comes with a large plate of gyro meat, rice pilaf, and pita bread. It is the perfect amount of food to share if you aren't too hungry, and the gyro meat ahead comes out nice and warm. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming as soon as you come in. We are fortunate enough to get a coupon book in the mail that comes with good coupons for patty's, but it is so worth it and I'm never disappointed whenever I stop in. My mom had the club sandwich which was also good and HUGE, my dad had the gyro platter, and my picky two year old ate a grilled cheese. She never eats a grilled cheese! We've been looking for a new breakfast spot since we moved to the area and this is it! Have tried it a few times various days of the week and it has yet to disappoint. The mexican dishes are pretty great (gluten free for years so generally my go-to option) and the chorizo potato skillet I had yesterday was one of the best I've had. Not a big fan of the home made salsa but probably a different region than I'm accustomed to. Fiancee's country fried steak was apparently expletive worthy and the hash browns were great too. The group's favorite was the last one with the grilled ham and cheese sandwich with fries. These are now my new favorite fries - beautifully crispy on the outside, pillowy fluffy on the inside and never got soggy. Decent coffee, clean inside...what more can you ask of your breakfast joint? read more

We came here before they close at 3 pm on a Sunday. They open up for breakfast and lunch only. As we entered, we were greeted Hello by the nice ladies working here. We got seated at a booth. Cool decor inside. We got waters to drink. I decided to go with the ultimate club sandwich with French fries. The ultimate club sandwich had ham, provolone cheese, turkey, lettuce, tomatoes and bacon with mayonnaise in sourdough bread. It was like a three layered sandwich. Yum! The fries were cooked to perfection. Seasoned with salt. Everything was delicious! Service was excellent by our waitress. She refilled our waters and got us ranch for our French fries. Great little diner in the heart of La Mesa. The staff makes you feel welcomed and are very friendly. We were hungry and were seated right away and it was about closing time for them and we were never turned away. I ordered the Ribeye steak medium with fries and a bowl of vegetable soup. I got an ortega omelette with shredded beef served with refried beans and rice. The coffee is really good here. Nice big booths to sit in as well. Daily specials on the whiteboard are worth a try! I've been coming here for years since I live close by. I like that they offer many options: breakfast all day, American, Mexican, Greek. I usually get the lamb shank (good sized) with Greek side salad, steamed vegetables (carrots and broccoli (large quantity)), rice pilaf and pita bread. It's all very healthy and delicious. I have food sensitivities but this meal always agrees with me. The price can't be beat, $17 which is unheard of. I've also ordered 1/2 Lemon Chicken with the same sides. I always can't finish it and take home the leftovers (only $16). Even the decorations are appealing (a bit of a Moroccan flair). Staff is always accommodating and friendly. I could of picked 3 or 4 options.. I decided on Gyros and eggs Greek style which included tomatoes, feta and pita bread instead of potatoes and toast. A first for breakfast! The food came out pretty quickly and exactly as ordered. There was plenty of gyros..so much so I took 1/2 home and had it for dinner later..it was delicious. I would like to try some of there other Greek menu items, Greek lemon chicken ( sounds easy but you don't know how many times I have cooked this and it doesn't come out like I like it..not lemony enough though I double the lemon on the recipe..the Greeks know how to DO it right), moussaka ( time consuming to make, like lasagna but with eggplant, ground lamb and potatoes)..etc etc.. Five stars for what this is; an independent cafe:not a five-star menu of guilted opulence. I'd been to Patty's before, cus this shopping center and an adjacent one offer clothing cheap! This time I took a buddy. He ate the spinach omelette with hash browns and toast. He's a pretty good eater and liked the food-still there was plenty leftover to take out. I had scrambled eggs (a little over cooked so ask your waitress for a quicker cook,) delicious super crispy corned beef hash, sliced tomato instead of potato and a good biscuit. This joint wins for breakfast. It's the classic home cooking American Diner. The staff was pleasant, our waitress was very nice and the food was well made. I can't speak to the other meals but if you're looking for a great traditional breakfast spot this is a fine choice. Keep in mind that this place is what it is. It's a diner. Patty's café is the epitome of a "Ma and Pa" restaurant! Very clean, extremely friendly/welcoming staff, and home like meals. I haven't noticed it being too crowded in the evening, however it's busiest hours would definitely be weekend mornings. I highly recommend trying out their vegetable soup, as it honestly tastes homemade and nowhere near what an "out of the can" soup would taste like. The prices are very reasonable with satisfying portions and thankfully, there are quite a few different vegetarian options on the menu! I really enjoy coming here with family. read more

What a gem!!!! FANTASTIC food and FANTASTIC service. You don't usually see those two together very often these days, but man are we glad we found it today!!! Hangovers = diner food for breakfast. I had the machaca plate and my husband had the gyros and eggs. Both were so delicious! From the homemade salsa, to the piping hot tortillas, to the yummy juicy gyro meat, our breakfast hit the spot this morning. Major bonus that the waitress was SO upbeat and friendly. REALLY made the experience that much better. My husband made a point to tell multiple staff members that the service was fantastic and we will be returning for sure. We were so full but saw a piece of coconut cream pie ready to be devoured so we ordered it last minute as we were paying the check. Literally, the most satisfying piece of pie I've ever consumed. Came here solely based on yelp reviews. It was a good choice. Cute little place that will remind you of diners of the past. I had the Miramar omelet and Deb the country benedict. My omelet had ham, bacon, tomatoes and a couple types of cheese. It was served with hash browns. Both the omelet and hash browns were quite good and just the right amount of food to not stuff me. Debs benedict was a bisquit with a sausage patty and poached egg on top covered with country gravy. The egg was poached perfect not to runny and not hard. The sausage had a good flavor and the gravy was light and very good. No flour taste at all. She had it with tomatoe slices which were a good size and not to hard or soft. All in all a good breakfast.
