I recently saw Dr. McAndrews and I was so impressed. His office is warm and inviting and his staff very kind. When he entered the office he sat down and we talked for ten minutes about my concerns. He listened attentively and then began to explain to me what was going on and possible treatments for me to consider. He really broke it down in language that made sense and throughout the discussion he paused to let me ask questions, (and it was a discussion unlike my interactions with some doctors who appear rushed and disinterested). I felt completely at ease discussing this personal and somewhat embarrassing issue as I recognized that I was consulting with a compassionate expert. I had a hair transplant procedure from Dr McAndrews and he really took his time to explain the whole procedure and my personal situation. Took time to answer all my questions. He is very personable besides. During the procedure, he was so meticulous in getting everything right. He and his staff made sure I was comfortable during and after the procedure. If only there was an option for a negative star review on this app because even one star is one too many for this doctor. The woman who took me into the room initially to ask me questions about my medical history and timeline with acne etc. was a hundred times more professional than Dr. McAndrews. I just paid a $35 copay plus $5 for parking to be told that only I know how to prevent my acne and only I can know what products to use to keep my face from getting any worse. After a two year battle with taking strong antibiotics and experimenting with different birth controls and seeing a doctor, an esthetician and even taking the natural approach by trying a plant-based diet for months, nothing helped and on top of the acne, I've developed some form of dermatitis that surfaces on my face, neck, and hands. After this problem I did my research and tried to find the "best" dermatologist in my area who takes my insurance and the doctor with the least amount of bad reviews was Dr. McAndrews. He barely looked at my skin, gave me his whole spiel on how and why acne develops (all which can probably be found on any given Wikipedia page devoted to acne), he told me, of course, that I need to go on accutane. As many who struggle with severe acne might know, accutane is the "holy grail" medication doctors prescribe as a last resort. I genuinely wouldn't be so hesitant to take his advice and begin the medication if it weren't for how aggressive he was during the appointment, leaving me more nervous than excited to start a serious medication such as this one and finally possibly hopefully get clear skin. I could barely get a word in, I brought a big bag full of products and prescribed ointments in hopes of getting advice on what might be okay to use and what isn't so great to use, he didn't want to help me with that at all because "Only you know what you should and shouldn't use. Only you can know what works for you." Well clearly, I'm struggling with figuring that out and I'm seeking the advice of a medical professional. Just felt like his only goal was to come in the room, recite his rehearsed script on acne, give me a pill that will magically "solve" all my problems, take my money, and be out in time to see enough patients in a day to fund his next golf getaway. Milly was the woman who saw me in the beginning of my appointment and I felt comfortable enough to address my concerns to her once the "doctor" left the room. She was way more professional than McAndrews will ever be and she made me feel a lot less overwhelmed by the whole appointment. She advised me to at least try the ointment that McAndrews prescribed me for my dermatitis even if I do not get the antibiotics he prescribed me to take until my "appointment in two weeks" to begin the accutane journey. I will never go back to his office. Back to the drawing board to find a medical professional who can actually take a good look at my skin and assess it and start some plan of action. The only word I can use to sum up my experience with this man is "joke." This was a joke of an experience. Avoid going to him at all costs. Calling him a "doctor" leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. read more

The worst doctor i have ever been to. He took approximately 2 minutes to hear my problem. The nurse confirms that you may only ask one question of the doctor before you see him. I have never heard of such a thing. When you see a dr. you bring your list relating to their specialty. He is burning the insurance companies badly. Not only did he cut me off, he misdiagnosed me. I paid out of pocket for my visit and he told me it was all in my head, that the brown spots on my face were stress. The prescription he gave me made the bumps go down but I had mycosis caused by mold. This guy is a pompous ass and I want my money back. read more

I'm not the sort of person to write yelp reviews. If my experience is good at a certain establishment I go back for more, if it's bad I simply never return. However, my disastrous experience with Dr. McAndrews warrants my first ever yelp review. Hair loss sucks there's no way around that. About 7 years ago I noticed a considerable amount of thinning up top. In order to combat a receding hair line I set out to find a hair transplant doctor. I researched up and down for almost a year...forums, websites, yelp, you name it. After extensive research I decided to go with a hair transplant doctor in Thailand. The reviews were outstanding, it was at a cheaper cost than most american doctors and admittedly I wanted to check out Thailand. So I booked my appointment and set off for my first hair transplant surgery. The doctor spoke limited english and I had to communicate with him through a translator. Regardless there wasn't much talking as he wasn't there to schmooze. Unlike Dr. McAndrews his biggest talent wasn't with his mouth, it was with his hands. He's a brilliant and professional surgeon who delivered the results I wanted. I opted for the FUT surgery, where they take a strip of your hair out from the back and place the follicles where you need them up in front. This can be tricky because you want limited scaring back there. In addition, once you place the follicles, there is no telling if they will stick and continue to grow like natural hair. To my relief, the surgery went off without a hitch. The scar healed so well, that you almost couldn't see it and the best part was that after about 7 months I started to see massive amounts of hair growth in all the right places! It was exciting to watch the hair grow in and in about a year and a half later, I had the results I hoped for. Cut to five years later and I noticed some more thinning right in the middle where he didn't transplant any follicles. At the time there was no need, because my hair was growing in just fine in that spot. So I decided that I needed one last final touch up. I should have gone back to Thailand but I didn't and that will forever be one of the biggest regrets of my life....no joke. I was stupid I'll admit it. I had come into some money and I was acting hastily. Work was tight and I didn't have the time to travel to Thailand. I figured it had been five years since my last surgery and surely hair transplants were becoming more commonplace. Living in Los Angeles, I assumed some of the best doctors were in my backyard so I set out to find one. I settled on the charlatan Dr. McAndrews. He talked up a good game and I fell for it. The day of surgery I woke up towards the end of the procedure and he refused to give me any more pain killers for fear that I was driving myself home. Let me tell you, being awake while someone is inserting hair follicles into your head is not pleasant. After the surgery, I noticed the back of my head was unusually numb. They gave me a list of do's and don'ts which I followed religiously, and assured me that the numbness would eventually go away. IT NEVER DID. The months that followed I grew very concerned because ingrown hairs started to pop up all over my head. It felt like a bunch of big spider/mosquito bites on my head. They eventually went down after a few weeks but the numbness in the back stayed. I was very concerned and went in for followups where the doctor and staff fed me more lies. They kept telling me, that everything I was experiencing was "normal". I knew this to be a lie because I had already had a hair transplant surgery where the numbness was barely noticeable and only lasted a few weeks. I also never got any ingrown hairs the first time around. He arrogantly dismissed my concerns and rescheduled my appointment for a year to the date of my surgery. He said by then, the hair would grow in and the numbness should subside. A year later, only a fraction of the follicles he transplanted survived and I still can't feel the back of my head. Angry, frustrated and beyond disappointed, I went in for my yearly follow-up and was met with such hostile resistance. The staff kept trying to pull up pictures and convince me that there was a lot of growth. I told them that I didn't need pictures I have a mirror at home and I've been watching this nonexistent "growth" for the past year. The true unprofessional colors of the doctor and staff became glowingly apparent as we argued back and forth and I eventually just cut my losses and walked out. I'm not sure if I'll ever feel sensation in the back of my head and it was all for nothing. This man should have been a car salesman not a doctor. I gave him a large sum of money, trusted him with something vitally important to me and he failed miserably, without taking any responsibility. Like I said earlier. I'm not the kind to rant and rave but I feel compelled to share this nightmare. Don't follow my mistake DO YOUR RESEARCH. read more

We recently were looking into the hair transplant procedure to stop my husbands receding hairline. We were recommended to Dr. Mcandrews from a friend so we scheduled a visit. We met with the doctor and he convinced us he could help. We booked the appointment for 2 months out and 6 days before the surgery my husband had been booked for a huge business meeting out of town. We called to cancel/reschedule the appointment and they would gladly do so, but they kept our $3000.00 deposit. They told us they would roll this money over towards the cost of the surgery so we had to put another $3000.00 down to lock up our next appointment. Unexpected business again for my husband, and now we had to cancel on about 3 days notice. No courtesy, no leniency, they kept the both deposits and said they never told us they could be used as credits. We were forced to pay $6000.00 out of pocket of our hard earned, middle class money to a doctor who obviously does well. We paid him to waste our time and set our family back from doing this for months now. We will NEVER schedule with Dr. McAndrews again and I advise you do not either. I went to Dr.McAndrews years ago after a recommendation from a friend of friend. I am writing this review now because I am still experiencing the effects of his horrid recommendation and I had to write something. To start with, I don't think he ever looked up at me once, not even when he was speaking to me. He was rushed and appeared as if I were bothering him just by being there. He put me on Rogaine for men without explaining the side effects and without suggesting any other remedies (which other dermatologists have done since) and years later I have lowered blood pressure, increased heart rate, horrible spots on my face, and high potassium which my doctors couldn't figure out where it came from, until an endocrinologist was able to put the pieces together. My hair loss, honestly, not much of a difference. I got the feeling that he just puts most of his patience on Rogaine and would rather spend his time doing transplants, since that's where most of his money comes from. Not only is he unpleasant to be around he's also a bad doctor. read more

not very helpful. i am a medical professional, and this clinic did very little to investigate my pathology. my first visit (most likely my last) lasted not more than 3 minutes with the doctor and 10 minutes in total. i had booked my appointment to have a cyst removed from my earlobe, and the doctor came in, touched my ear, agreed it was a cyst, and then assumed i would be enthusiastic about booking another appointment to let this guy put a knife near me. i dont understand why we couldnt get the procedure done the same day, or at least take a swab to see if there is an infection of any kind, or an acne perscription, or ANYTHING!!!! my copay was $50 and im convinced i just flushed my money down the toilet. doctors need to realize they are treating people, not doing oil changes. i thought they would at least have a good sense of ethics and concern, but the assistant actually had a very condescending tone when speaking with me, and told me essentially if i dont like the service, to get another appointment at another clinic. thanks for nothing doctor buttface read more
