my hair after 3 Dr. McAndrews procedures
    Robert C.

After botched hair transplants by Bosley and another provider who is no longer in business, I was forced to wear hairpieces for 25 years to hide the scarring and the obviousness of the transplants. 22 years ago, I consulted with Dr. McAndrews, but opted for a procedure with New Hair Institute because NHI was a lot cheaper. The results were better than my previous transplants, but still disappointing. I figured "that's as good as it gets with hair transplants" and just gave up and continued to wear hairpieces. Not choosing Dr. McAndrews then was a huge mistake. A few years ago, reading nothing but positive reviews of Dr. McAndrews and seeing the widespread respect for him on hair loss forums, I returned to Dr. McAndrews for a transplant. After only one procedure, in which he added density and corrected much of the damage from my previous transplants, I was able to throw my hairpieces away. After two more procedures, my hair looks natural and surprisingly dense. Now I spend only 3 minutes styling my hair after getting out of the shower and can travel and go swimming, all without the hassles and potential embarrassment of a hairpiece. Thank you, Dr. McAndrews!

I was a patient here and underwent a surgical procedure that caused me significant pain immediately afterward. Even after a full year of repeatedly reporting my pain, discomfort, and a terrible aesthetic result--including a visible bulge in my abdomen--I was consistently dismissed. I was told everything was "fine" and that there was nothing wrong. I was the one who had to push for an ultrasound, which ultimately led to a misdiagnosis and the conclusion that nothing could be done. A year and a half later, my suffering had not stopped, so I sought second opinions from other providers. Both of them immediately recognized the diagnosis. It is, unfortunately, a known and relatively common complication of the type of surgery I had. The fact that my original doctor never acknowledged this possibility was deeply concerning. This experience has caused significant psychological stress, ongoing physical pain, missed work, and additional medical procedures. I have now had to take more time off to undergo corrective surgery, I am left with a permanent scar that would never have existed otherwise, and I have spent thousands of dollars out of pocket to repair the damage with a different doctor. What is most upsetting is that I did go back to the original provider, explained the correct diagnosis, and requested a refund based on what happened. I was told that I had received a "beautiful result," despite the clear physical deformity and the painful complication that had been overlooked for over a year. My concerns were dismissed, minimized, and ultimately ignored. At this point, I have no choice but to warn others about how complications may be handled here if something goes wrong with your procedure. I am also now forced to pursue board complaints and legal action, which is something I never wanted to do. I genuinely tried to resolve this directly. No response they leave on this review will change how this situation was handled.

Since then I was very self-conscious about them because they looked awful. I tried creams, tea bags, cold water compresses, etc. and nothing worked so I made a goal to have lower blepharoplasty done before the end of this year. Around August 2025, I was referred to a plastic surgeon by a friend. The doctor was reluctant to perform surgery on me for a couple of different reasons which I won't go into great detail. So without knowing anyone else, I found Dr. Wang and another Asian doctor via the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Since I am Asian, I was specifically looking for Asian doctors who had experience with this surgery on Asian males. I looked at his website, searched for any medical malpractice cases, lawsuits, was he board certified, etc. then scheduled an initial visit. Including Dr. Wang, I purposely visited with three doctor's for this surgery. During the visit with Dr. Wang, I asked about his facilities, the pre-op and post-op steps, aftercare support and follow-ups, shared with him my concerns (stemming from the visit with the first doctor), and a variety of additional questions. In fact, before the actual surgery date, I had two additional visits with him to talk over the initial concerns I had. Incidentally, there was no charge for these visits. Dr. Wang spent plenty of time with me during all three pre-op meetings and saw me pretty quickly meaning, once I stepped into the office for my appointment, I was seen by him in less than fifteen minutes. The surgery went smoothly and I'm very happy with the outcome. I've had four follow-up visits with him with a fifth one scheduled for February 2027. The office staff is terrific and helpful, especially Michelle Y. The facility is very nice, there's plenty of parking, and overall, a positive experience.

One of the team members, Michelle, helped me setting up my appointment in Upland, because she realized that it would be easier for my commute. During the consultation, Dr. Wang was knowledgeable and guided me through the process and the procedure. I strongly recommend Dr. Wang.

The waiting room was full, and other patients had been waiting even longer (over two hours). There was no communication, no timeline, and no attempt to manage expectations. Delays happen, but this was chaotic, and appeared to be systemic overbooking rather than an isolated issue. For a surgical consultation, where attention to detail and patient care should be paramount, this experience was concerning to say the least. I felt I was waiting to be processed, not cared for. I sat there thinking - these are the people that would be responsible for my pre-op care, my surgery, my aftercare, and any complications that may arise during or after my procedure. And they cannot get the most basic function of the operation right. Ultimately, the consultation fee was a small price to avoid a five-figure mistake. Maybe it's ok for filler and Botox. If like me you are making a permanent decision about your body, beware. I won't undergo a scalpel on an assembly line. Hard pass.
