First of all, you really can't get a more affordable service these days. My haircut was $15 plus tip. FYI allow plenty of time, the students need more time. My relatively simple cut took more than 2 hours--they do warn about this in advance. My stylist Alex was super nice & I think the cut came out fine. Exactly what I was looking for at this price. She was very good about getting as far as she could & then finding a supervisor when she needed a little help. I'm taking off a star because I waited in chairs for about 15 minutes after my appointment time. Also at the end they asked if I wanted to get cash back for my stylist & I got confused & the girl at the desk acted pretty impatient. Inexperienced Student, Unhelpful Instructor. Avoid. I came here hoping for a decent color and style based on past good experiences with the Paul Mitchell brand, but this location was a huge letdown. The student was unprepared, and worse, the instructor was unable to help. The entire process was a struggle. My Phase 2 stylist: 1. Needed help mixing a standard hair color. 2. Applied the dye so sloppily that it stained my forehead and neck. 3. Used the wrong size curling iron for my hair type. 4. Couldn't create a curl with a flat iron, instead just crimping my ends. When I finally asked an instructor for help, she also could not demonstrate how to do a simple flat iron curl. It was baffling. How are students supposed to learn if the teachers don't know the basics? The entire experience was frustrating and a waste of time. I will not be going back. read more

I had Hailey cutting and hair and Sol ( I believe was her name.. I'm not sure how to spell it) very wonderful service and people. Super kind and patient. I was getting my long hair turned into a short bob cut with bangs! So I was super super nervous but they were so kind and knowledgeable. Helped me understand what got my face shape most and even taught me how to care and style my hair. Vibes were immaculate, other students were very sweet too and also customers! I went around the evening time, even though I went towards the end of the day they had sooo much energy and expertise. Amazing school! My daughter loves it here. During family week she was able to do my hair and it was such a great experience. Everyone is so nice and professional. They are definitely teaching these students not only how to work in the industry but also how to treat their customers. I loved the location inside as well. I was not as satisfied as I usually am. I went in on Monday 3/3. My appointment was at 10:30, but no one was up front for sign in. So I had to sign in a few minutes late when a person appeared up front . As far as the haircut, the young girl named Jade was impressive since she is a phase 1 student and did lot have to constantly be corrected by her instructor. She did excellent work. But it was her instructor that said that because of my face shape and the density of my hair, he would not go shorter. I wanted it to be shorter because not much length was taken off. So it was the advice of the instructor that I was unhappy with. I just need to start getting my hair cut elsewhere . This place does not seem to care much about their clients anymore . read more

I scheduled an appointment for a blonde balayage. I walked away as a platinum blonde just like I wanted. It is a school so expect services to take a while. My balayage took 6 hours. The salon is clean and the stylists are friendly. It's a loud environment with salon chairs lined up. I'm honestly really disappointed with my experience. If you're not confident in doing a specific haircut, please don't offer it -- it's frustrating to leave the salon feeling worse about your hair. Not only was my haircut poorly done, but my mom's also didn't turn out well. On top of that, basic things like wrapping the towel properly weren't even done right. I went in to get my roots colored and my highlights touched up since they had grown out. I was not happy with my initial results- everything came out super dark and I specifically mentioned that I wanted bright. I wish I could give this beauty school more stars, but I can't. The only reason I am not giving this location two stars is because the student (Lele I believe) was incredibly kind and friendly, she did everything to make me feel at home. I came in wanting a long asymmetrical bob with blunt bangs. My friend had her hair cut at this location and the tier 2 student + instructor she got gave her a beautiful lob and undercut. What I got was a standard bob with a little less body in the back and uneven semi-layered bangs. The reason I am discontent is that the student communicated the hairstyle I wanted to the instructor and she completely disregarded her. She began to snip away at the front of my hair, which I specifically asked to not cut as I wanted the graduation to be as dramatic as I could manage. My glasses were off so I trusted the instructor not to do that, or at least check in with me to make sure she wasn't trimming too much. So imagine my surprise when three inches of my hair were cut off and I got uneven layers all around the middle and back when I put my glasses back on. People have told me to avoid beauty schools for the reason that instructors are much too heavy handed and ignore their students and do not ask the customer what they want. My friend who is a stylist told me later that asymmetrical long bobs are best left to a master stylist, and students (and I guess instructors) are only taught 3 main hairstyles and cut variations. And that would have been fine...if the haircut I requested was too difficult, I should have been told that. Not have my hair chopped and then have to regrow it back and buy extensions to at least make myself feel better. read more

Worse service and staff. I waited for over 30 mins while they were just in the back curling each others hair. The girl who cut my hair was close to graduating. I added for a trim and one length. She could didn't even know how to wash or brush my hair properly. She didn't even section my hair and just cut it. It's all uneven. She was more concerned to bitch about her life and be on her phone. I gathered the courage to return to Paul Mitchell. One poor experience should not justify writing this place off. I just knew there were more good experiences to be had. Made my appointment 2 days in advance, with plenty of time options to choose from. My appointment was with David, and I was immediately impressed with him. As our appointment progressed, it became obvious that David was a little nervous. He expressed being more acclimated to men's cuts. I was not ready to run for the hills, because his educator, Nina, was along side the Entire way. Nina was incredibly patient, well-spoken, and had my full trust. NO CHEMICAL SERVICES FOR ANYONE UNDER 12...WAIT NOW IT'S 16 AND UNDER... ... SORRY... WE MEAN NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 17! I booked an appt for my almost 16 year old daughter to get highlights. After taking her back, an instructor called me up and said they no longer do chemical services on anyone under the age of 17. This is a bazar rule and surprising considering she has gotten highlights at the Aveda School and Ogle in the past few years and we've never been questioned about her age. After leaving, I checked the website and in one section it states "no chemical services for anyone under the age of 12" and in another area it says they "only offer chemical services for people 16 years of age or older"' Which is it? I'm being told 3 different things here! if there is an age requirement for specific services, a birth date should be required to book services so people don't waste their time. My daughter will be 16 in less than 3 months and was refused service. She left in tears because she was looking forward to getting her hair done before an event and now we need to find somewhere else to get it done in the next couple of days. I don't know why she was even questioned about her age! She is a sophomore, has a job, will be driving soon and had her parent there. It seems to us they just didn't want to do the service we scheduled. Huge waste of time! read more

I'm really glad I found out about the option of saving about 500% on hair cuts and services (seriously though I used to pay at least $150-$300 for color & cuts in the past) but thanks to beauty schools I can get more regular trims for less than $20 usually! I wanted to rate this school more but I feel that compared to Aveda the instructors seem a bit less communicative or maybe the students are more shy, less confident or just assume they know what they are doing (or are scissor happy!) but EVERY stylist is different whether in school or a salon. Luckily the supervisor always double checks their work even if they don't and will go in and make actual adjustments as necessary. I recommend for simple services like deep conditioning treatments etc, I would request specific students if you want a specific style etc because some are more "passionate" about certain things than others, so ask ask ask! read more

Well, I tried to give them another chance today. My last visit was confirmed on the phone, but when I got there, they had no appointment booked. I waited for over 30 minutes before I just decided to leave. Today, I got there and waited just a short time before someone came and told me that the level 2 I had an appointment called in and that I could wait or see a level 1. PRETTY SURE THIS PLACE GAVE ME LICE Went in for a haircut on 05/17/22. I used to go to the Paul Michell School in Temecula CA all the time so when I discovered Dallas had one as well I was very excited to live close to one again. I was a little disappointed with my haircut. I asked for layers and 'more movement' which I was given, I just think the layers were a little too long. Not a huge deal, hair grows back. I noticed my head started to get itchy a few hours afterwards, I just figured I was having a reaction to the shampoo they used as I don't use PM products at home. 05/24/22 Still very itchy a whole week later! Washing my hair in the shower, stared finger combing through my hair and I see 2 lice on my hand!!! Super disgusted! I don't have kids nor do I hang children or anyone else who's had lice recently. Worst customer service I've ever received from Michelle who is the supervisor for customer service (from what she told me). Had called her immediately the next day due to a wax job that was not fully done, and wanted to give a chance to Paul Mitchell school to correct it. Had taken pictures of the wax job as well (with the time stamped on the pictures) and emailed it to Michelle as she requested. I don't get a call from her until a couple days later, where I had left the country for work, in which I had stated in my message to her before leaving in taking care of the issue before I leave. I get back into the country and was told she won't do anything. Funny enough she hangs up the phone on me. Was super surprised she was the supervisor of customer service at Paul Mitchell. Had asked for her supervisor in which she said, she was the one. It's funny since I had also emailed her, she never got back to me, and I had to call twice in even reaching her in different weeks. I've been a long time customer at Paul Mitchell at the Austin, TX branch. And my friends and family have been going to PM to help out the students in getting experience. Do not recommend this place whatsoever. I went in with a faded blue tone on my previously highlighted hair. I asked for a color remover and highlights. With the direction of an instructor they covered my entire head, scalp to tip, in bleach. This isn't at all what I asked for. They then did a toner. She had to take me back to the wash bowl because she kept leaving product in my hair. When we began to dry my hair I noticed how yellow it was and commented that I didn't like it. They said it would lighten as we dried it. Once it was dry I mentioned it again. They said to use purple shampoo and it would be fine. They used barely any product and I left with frizzy yellow very unnatural looking hair. It was fried. It's so dry and frizzy now. It feels like hay. I called the next day and complained and asked for a refund. They said they don't offer refunds but would fix it if I came back within 7 days. I started that process and was told a supervisor would be calling me. That was 5 days ago and I have yet to get a call back. For $103 I got fried yellow hair. The girl also never replaced my towel under the cape and after the first wash my back remained soaked. I got home and realized my clothes had been bleached from the towel. read more

I had just moved to the Dallas area when I realized that I needed to get a haircut and wanted a fresh change to my hair color after years of growing it out. After remembering the experience that my friends have had at other Paul Mitchell Schools in New York, I decided to go to Paul Mitchell The School Dallas and was able to book an appointment for the same week. Upon arriving at Paul Mitchell's, I was greeted with a warm welcome and immediate sense of professionalism. There was uplifting music and the students were hard at work with their customers. There was no sense of negativity in the room and I immediately felt at ease despite being afraid I would look like a Beauty School Dropout like Frenchie from Grease. I was introduced to Alice who was my primary stylist for the day. While most salons wave off after seeing an initial inspiration picture, she referred to it throughout the appointment and constantly checked in with Amy, her teacher, who acted as support throughout the process. As someone who knows very little about hair, Alice spent the appointment explaining each step of the lightening process as I went from a honey blonde color to platinum. She answered all of my questions and even brought a book of hair colors down to explain the process of how my color would be shifting from one to the other. She checked in with me, providing me with soda from the vending machine, and kept the conversation light as we spent the next five hours together. Amy, too, would join us and assist when Alice had a question. Their interactions showed the learning environment that Paul Mitchell's fostered and other stylists often stopped by my station, asking questions so that they, too, could learn about my process. Natalie also assisted in the coloring and was excellent at providing feedback at the areas that needed to be touched up. After several hours, my hair transformed from tired and uneven locks to a beautiful hairstyle that encapsulated my dreams to have Game of Thrones inspired hair. When I returned from the rest room, I walked out to the stylists all praising me and making me feel more confident than I had in years. I was blushing as they all praised my hair and the work that Alice had performed. This was the best hair experience of my life. I am looking forward to my visit with Alice at the end of the month for touch ups and I'm excited to continue to support such a great institution. I received a deluxe facial. The facility is nice and clean. The staff was very polite and professional. The facial I received was top-notch. I don't remember what phase the student was in but she did a wonderful job. She analyzed my skin and told me what she was doing and why. I think she made a perfect assessment of my skin issues and I walked away with a glowing complexion. I feel like this facial was just as good as any I've ever received from a high-end spa and at 1/3 the price. Can't beat that. I'll definitely return. read more

While they are students and the result might not be completely perfect, I looked up the price of a regular salon for a balayage, and it was about twice what I paid. Dakota was my stylist, and she was nice and I like the result of my hair. My hair is dark brown and very long, so it took a lot of lightener to get it to the color I requested. I liked that they guided you through the prices and options to make it cheaper. The instructor would pop by every few minutes to make sure it was going smoothly, which I appreciated. My friend is a hair stylist and she said for a phase one or two, Dakota did a great job. My one thing is that some of the top pieces were copper toned do I had to get done purple shampoo to tone it down into a dirty blonde color. Still working on that, but I think overall I'm happy with the result. Tip: If you're coloring your hair lighter, it's more expensive if your hair is longer, so consider doing a balayage. read more
