This Paul Mitchell school should be shutdown immediately!!! Completely trash customer service!!!! Absolutely absurd the way they treat their customers and their students!!! I called for an appointment to schedule a student hair cut, and they hung up on me mid sentence. I called back and they said "can't you see I'm busy". Excuse tf out of you but what?!?!?! Should I also mention that the teachers were extremely rough on me when helping the student cutting my hair and how they're assholes and treat their students like garbage?! The student cutting my hair called for help and the first thing the teacher did was sigh and roll her eyes followed by "move. Give me that. I'll fix it". My sister is a student there, and there's not a day where the teachers either yell at her for doing what she's told, 2 teachers telling her conflicting things and then yelling at her for not doing what they said, or are completely out of pocket of with how rude and disrespectful they are. This school needs to be either shutdown or fire and hire completely new staff. The atmosphere in that school is so hostile and disrespectful. The teachers are know it all's and treat all their students and customers like absolute garbage. I'm never going there again and I'm making sure everyone who wants to attend knows how this Paul Mitchell school is ran - like a freaking circus. read more

I started attending Paul Mitchell for the esthetics program in May. I finished out about a week ago. My experience here was nothing like I thought it would be. From the beginning, I had an enjoyable time, but after coring out I began to discover all of the things wrong with this institution. First off, the attendance keeping is a bunch of bullshit, they will completely fuck with your hours. It took me forever to get mine fixed and when I did I was told that they were going to grab the book to make sure I was telling the truth or not. For others in my class they were able to get theirs fixed no questions asked. The girl fixing their hours actually put that they were there on days they weren't just because she didn't feel like checking and seeing if they were actually present or not. So for some people that missed a shit ton of days they were able to graduate with only "one day" missing. Paul Mitchell needs to keep track of attendance way better because the app and the clocking in with the QR code is obviously not working, they are allowing tons of students to cheat their education and are lying for these students. Also, this school loves favoritism. They pick and choose who they want to harass and pick on while they let others get away with those same things. I walked into school one particular day with a zip up jacket with a hood on it and was immediately yelled at to take it off that it was against dress code. I wasn't aware of that and I thought a zip up was fine because I've seen plenty of other people attending wear the same thing. I was forced to change but there were two people literally standing next to me that had the same thing on and it was okay for them to wear it. The discrimination and disrespect is just unbelievable. The cherry on top of it all for me would have to be just a week before my graduation. I was told I had a client by the receptionist last minute, I took the paper and saw that it was an electrical facial that needed to be performed. I AM PREGNANT AND HIGH RISK. I AM NOT ALLOWED TO PERFORM ELECTRICAL FACIALS. I told ANGELES THE RECEPTIONIST that I was pregnant and not able to take the client because of that, she proceeded to snatch the paper out of my hand and tell me I need to sign a paper stating I'm refusing to take a client when I am supposed to. The utter disrespect that I received and the lack of empathy she portrayed was beneath me. No measures were taken for that behavior and she still continues to work there being rude to every single service guest that walks in and putting others down around her when it's not her place. I'm not the first person she has degraded and I guarantee I won't be the last because Paul Mitchell continues to keep these employees and allows them to do whatever they want. I can't believe I spent 10k to come to a school where I had to basically teach myself and endure disrespect and unfairness every single day. While I'm here, I would also like to point out that towards the end of my schooling there was no products to use on the service guests and there was no wax provided for us to practice. I'm sorry but what the hell does every single person that goes here pay for exactly. Most of the machines are broken and out of order as well making it hard for us to learn and do the services they so dearly need us to do to practice. People are constantly getting robbed of their education every single day in this school and I just pray someone reads this that's looking for wether or not to attend here or book a service here. THIS IS YOUR SIGN. DO NOT DO IT. I PROMISE YOU YOU WILL BE BETTER OFF GOING ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE. I went here to get my hair dyed for the first time ever. The front desk ladies were curt and not very friendly but I let it go. My hair stylist was super kind and courteous and right away made sure I was comfortable. As I was seated I noticed right away there were two teachers on a Saturday when all the students had clients. This was definitely not enough. I asked around and apparently most of the teachers called out for that day which students actually get written up for. I waited almost an hour for my hair stylist to get approval by one of the teachers to start. After she got approval the two teachers offered different methods to achieve the results that I requested. My stylist chose one of the options and began the process of a tease balliage as recommended by one of the teachers Amanda. Then the other teacher Cindy came and saw my stylist wasn't using the method SHE recommended. She immediately got in my stylists face demanding she get the supplies Cindy told her to get. My stylist tried to state that the other professor Amanda recommended the process she was starting but was rudely interrupted by Cindy getting an inch from her face and using intimidation tactics to get the student to blindly follow whatever Cindy said. My stylist was clearly upset but followed along to avoid drama in front of a customer. Can you say COVID NOT friendly? Get the hell out of your students face. As a credentialed teacher in California I am appalled by the treatment of students by the teachers here. Students need clear instruction by an instructor who actually takes pleasure in teaching, not just having control over students. Each time I saw a student ask for help the teachers responded with attitude and disrespect. These are students paying for an education by what is supposed to be a highly recommended program and are being mistreated and disrespected in inappropriate and unacceptable ways. I'm absolutely appalled and disappointed by the treatment of the students and how long my appointment took due to teachers squabbling over students using one method over another. These teachers need more training on how to treat students and customers. Highly do not recommend if you are looking for a relaxing day of getting your hair done. Had to give 5 stars. My wife has been going to Paul Mitchell for over a year now and she always comes home SO HAPPY and she looks fantastic. That bodes well for everyone in the house. When things go wrong I'll usually ship the kid off to Nana's, send the cat to a kennel, say "good luck" to the fish and hide in my neighbor's garage till things mellow out. Being a current student here at Paul Mitchell the school in Modesto, made me feel uncomfortable, anxious, and made me rethink my decision to continue my education here. It made me question making my career as an esthetician because of the education I was receiving. The staff didn't seem to care, or listen about any of the students here. They had the same excuse for every situation they were in and that was not okay. I disliked very much having to come to school every day, I dreaded it. At some point in the program I got tired of not being heard, and realized that the problems the school was having were not going to be fixed overnight and at this point I had to deal with it. In addition to all these other problems, one of my biggest issues with this school was that COVID-19 guidelines were not being enforced. Everyday students come in, sit down, and take off their masks. Some would even walk around the classroom to go talk to other students/ teachers without any sort of face covering. No social distancing rules are enforced. Students clutter in the entrance/ exit, teachers would allow it and nothing was ever said to them. Everyday we get our temperature taken and it would be highly inaccurate. Temperatures from 92-100 degrees. It should be replaced immediately but of course they do not seem to care. My first week here, I felt sick one day and threw up in the bathroom. I tried to go home early, when I let a staff member know she told me that I should wait it out and "maybe it will go away". They threatened to write me up if I missed the next day because I had an important test coming up. My situation is just one of many others who were witnessing the same issues stated above. From an outside perspective the admin seemed to overlook everything, and for that I find these actions (or lack thereof...) of the administration very unprofessional and negligent to the safety of their students. Apart from my personal problems I was already dealing with, coming to school just added more on my plate and was not good for my mental health. I am grateful and very appreciative for the few (2) teachers who actually cared about us and our frustrations. As well as the friends I made here but that is all. I hope you all get your shit together and figure this mess you call a "great" school out, as to not let any other future professionals go through this experience. read more

I made an appointment last night, arrived with a lot of customers in the lobby, but I was called for my appointment with a three minute wait time. I rarely get my hair done due to having a lot of thick hair. I'm excited to say that I had a great experience today. Sara did an amazing job at curling my hair and getting me all dolled up for today. I have been attending Paul Mitchell since the beginning of this year and so far I have been loving my experience! Before choosing a school to go to for esthetics, I've visited many other schools before I scheduled a tour at Paul Mitchell. And out of all the schools I have visited, there was something that Paul Mitchell had that many schools lacked; and that was culture. The environment at the school just felt so welcoming and friendly. Going deeper into the esthetics program, if you are interested in coming to Paul Mitchell for esthetics, just know this program requires 600 hours to be completed and it goes by quick! I started this program not wanting to do facials; I just wanted to do makeup and learn more about waxing. But the more I've learned about the skin and have performed treatments in the clinic, I've slowly fell in love with this portion of the program and I am definitely considering it as an option when I graduate. The first half of the program is mainly theory and that's where you learn about the basics of the skin. My core learning leader, Jody, teaches the basics of the skin and will also guide you in perfecting facials and all the electrical modalities, such as high frequency, microdermabrasion, etc. And then there is my adaptive/creative learning leader, Jennifer, who teaches the more advanced treatments/services like chemical peels, makeup specialty, etc. Jen has been my back bone throughout the second half of my program. I know she's always looking out for me and she will set me straight if I needed to be. She is not only a great teacher but she is also a great mentor, and I love her! She is very good at what she does and I'm glad I got to be one of her students and little helper. Overall, my time at Paul Mitchell has been great and I definitely recommend this school for the esthetics program! read more

If I can give this school a 0 star I would , from being taught my lessons from YouTube too them sending another students their contract information with all their personal information as social ,address ect. So many things were not taught to us and we had to self teach ourselves or ask each other instead of being taught by a instructor . I mean some of the girls didn't even know how to do a fill when they graduate cause it wasn't taught too us . They will promote on social media how they love and care about their students and their future but that is the not the truth once I started to realize, they just care about getting as much student in so they get paid . It's a business and that's it .What started as a 6 month program has turned into a year plus of hell . I never got to finish my hrs cause of Covid and then when they opened back up I couldn't return due to work and so after talking to financial aid and getting my options and what to do next after I get off leave they dropped me without consent . When I called to figure out what was going on , they lied and said they told me I could submit paperwork for my work and never did that . So I decided to look past this and just try to enroll so I can finish for the sake of my future , well now they want me to pay $800 to finish my hrs which is only 2 weeks. This school has been such a hassle and headache since I started here and one of the worst decisions I ever made in my life because now I'm stuck with a student loan that they got paid for and I won't be able to get licensed. Plenty of students feel the same way but are scared to speak out because Rosemary (owner)will call and demand the review to be taken as it will hurt her money making business , she threatened to sue a student for her speaking out about her experience with the school . This school is an absolute joke! The worst decision I've ever made. First of all the classes are super dirty. Their teaching methods are a disaster every one iny class was complaining non stop because of how confusing and unorganized everything was. Everything is taught super fast you don't even get a chance to study even my classmates said that would just copy off google and because they didn't have enough time to study. They are so money hungry it's ridiculous! I I dropped out after 4 days and was left with $2.400 debt. They say that the debt is because of the student kit but all I received was a couple of creams a wax kit and an iPad. I didn't even receive the makeup kit eyelash kit and many other things. I went in to try to get an adjustment because of the items I didn't receive but they just paid themselves off $200 with my own FAFSA pell grant. Also at first they said that I could make payments each month and now they are saying that I have to pay everything at once! I kept trying to make an appointment to fix this but they would always come up with an excuse to not make an appointment until I kept calling and texting. This school is such a scam!!!! Unfortunately I cannot recommend this school anymore. The services are great! The prices are not. I am constantly being over charged for various reasons given to me. Today I asked why my bill was 5 dollars higher than last visit which was the exact same service. I was told 3 different reasons. 1, last time they neglected to charge me for an extra bowl of color. Wrong! My receipt proves otherwise. 2, I was charged more because I was on phase 2. Wrong, I'm always in phase 2. 3, I must have used a coupon last time. Wrong again! I guess they did reply weeks after with a vague response. Not sure how calling them back will improve my customer experience. Frankly, if they didn't respond to me privately and be specific about how they wanted to make it up to me it's not worth it to call. They are basically putting the burden on me to fix the problem and then come back to patronize their business again and give them a second chance? Give me a motivation as to why I should. Like... Maybe putting in some effort and saying:come back and we will fix it for free or offer you a discount and get you in with an experienced student, etc. Lame. For sure never going back. I came in for a facial and beard trim. The front desk was very polite and pulled up my reservation quickly, I had a very short wait time. Justin the barber that worked on me was very professional and went out of his way to make me feel like he cared about what he was doing. And Angel, the teacher made sure I was satisfied with my service. My experience with the facial was even better. I was so relaxed I ended up falling asleep. Wow! I went to this place for a haircut & highlights, not expecting too much being that it is a beauty school... but I can't say enough about the services I received there. Allison did an AMAZING job - she took her time & my hair actually turned out better than the last time I had it done by a "professional". The school was very busy on the Saturday that I went, but I was greeted promptly & introduced to my stylist. She took the time do discuss what it was that I wanted, and what she thought would work best with my hair. While it took a little longer than I'm used to to, it was worth it! The color turned out beautiful & the cut was perfect. I will definitely be back! Great service & a great value! ** you will not be able to add a tip to your credit/debit card - so be sure to bring cash! I was very embarrassed to find that out when I paid for my services. So today we were told that we could no longer use the bathrooms in the main entrance area that those are for Cosmo students, we have to use the client's bathroom and another bathroom right next to our break table (yes we smell poop when we are trying to eat our lunch), mind you each one only has 1 toilet to approximately 45-50 students in the other programs that this goes for! Now that there's a new owner to the building next to Paul Mitchell we are extremely limited to parking one wall and 2 rows for customers and 4 rows for students for over enrollment how is that going to work?! They had the nerve to tell us to park at Hobby Lobby with no security and we would have to walk to Paul Mitchell and we are the night class so where is the concern for the safety of their students?? Everyday there is something new here!! OH YEAH FORGOT TO MENTION they limit supplies to all students in a cheaply manner and this is not even an over exaggeration. Hooman where are your standards? Spa room needs to be checked out with the lights on its amazing what the darkness hides, if the clients only knew how dirty it really is, oh and wax room completely disgusting its infection ready to happen so enter at your own risk!!! read more

I joined the Pm class here & you honestly don't learn much they basically review a text book with you and waste a lot of time In the classroom sometimes doing nothing but "homework" if you don't have clients to practice on. Very unorganized with what we actually learn there we got lucky by having a new teacher who does lashes & she taught us the classic set but we barely spent anytime learning lashes, our waxer is was amazing however even she was limited with the supply's we had sometimes we had no wax or sticks or strips & all we'd be constantly told is that they placed an order and it should be coming I feel like if it wasn't for Jennifer that place would be complete disorder she was the only person who knew what they were doing customer service is TRASH and so is financial aid with Danica she's never in office she's always busy never calls back voicemail after voice maileven the two principals were horrible they'd promise stuff and not complete for example giving a call back or handling the Situation and not doing so don't recommend they are so cheap with school products! read more

I came to Paul Mitchell Modesto for a deep conditioning treatment the two students Lo and Jenny who assisted with my hair are fantastic young women a lot of fun yet very professional they told me about product that they were using on my hair and informed me that I had a lot breakage in my hair and gave me great advice on a good product I can use at home... Been here frequently never had a problem until today they couldn't find my appointment. I was called in it took an hour for the first layer to get cut, four or five team leaders later showing pictures of how I wanted the back and the front leaving. I'm leaving disappointed Andi asked them to stop but they kept insisting they needed to now blow-dry my hair to proceed. It was the most hurtful $10 I've spent now I gotta go have it fixed, those are pics I showed and this is what I got, yeah not in the same ballpark only now I have shorter hair. She cut an inch when I agreed to half at the bottom I normally trust students to cut 10-15 inches and do A-lines but this is my last time coming here seriously had I left in tears they would've hit me at the door for their ten dollars. Mylast visit in April was pricey $30 for four braids but the visit was awesome. When it matters they have no customer service skills as a customer service manager I would've approached the client when I noticed her unhappiness at the chair. If you're thinking of going to this school..DONT!. Complete joke and sets you up for failure. All they want is your money. Front desk and learning leaders don't know what's going on half the time and when you ask to speak to someone about hours and/or financial aid you get brushed off because they're 'busy' but in reality they pick and choose who they want to help. I reached out to the school...no response. Was given a letter about coming back within a grace period, no one has gotten back to me about it and of course the grace period is over and I'm sure they'll get back to me to say it's too late. I wanted to further my education for the last few months I had left and pull through the BS to get my certificate but all I've been getting is a ton of letters from them about paying them back all this money but yet I can't get one response back about anything else that can help me out..shady. But if I was liked and favorited by staff I'm sure they would give me the benefit of the doubt and let me back in, they definitely allowed it with many others so why are they ignoring me and not giving me the same treatment?!. I've also been trying to get ahold of my records online to transfer my hours over to a new school and it seems to be they're somehow "misplaced" and no longer shows any of my cengage progress/hours that I have already completed to be able to transfer them over. So when office staff says they "care about you"...wrong...they care about your money!!! Don't let them fool you here, Save yourself and money, pick a different school..I wish I read all these reviews before putting my time and money into this place. Horrible excuse of a "Paul Mitchell beauty school". I wish I was able to get the kind of education I was hoping for from this place but I set my expectations wayyyyy too high for rosemary and her husbands school.
