If you are considering coming here as a student, I urge you to reconsider. This school cares about money above all else. While attending this school, all I could do was look forward to getting out of this place. The staff is disrespectful to the students, the equipment desperately needs to be updated, and anything you want to learn you must teach yourself. The financial aid office is nearly impossible to get ahold of and once you do, they still refuse to assist you. The vents are stuffed with dust and never cleaned so if you have allergies be ready to feel awful every time you come into class. The hand dryers in the bathrooms had mold, and the washers and dryers didn't work well so the towels used on clients typically smell like mildew and are covered in stains. The school charges more than any others and if you think you're paying more because it's a better education, you're wrong. The owner gives "business" classes but spends the whole class disrespecting the students and complaining that he's wasting his time all while boasting about how much money he makes and the fancy car he drives. The cosmetology program only has two good teachers, the other teachers openly talk bad about students in front of other students and when you complain to admin about it they tell you they "don't want to hear your gossip". Nadia is the worst, a month before my graduation date Nadia was on the floor with us and I asked her an opinion on the formula I planned to use for my client's color since her usual color was out of stock, rather than telling me if my plan was good, she turned to my client and said "I'm sorry your stylist doesn't know what she's doing" and completely ignored my question, offering no further help. This resulted in my client not trusting me and questioning every single thing I did for the duration of the service (her hair turned out great and she rebooked, no thanks to Nadia). Not to mention Nadia bragging to her students about her "Sancho on the side", wildly inappropriate if you ask me. Parking is very limited and they prioritize guest parking so if there's no student spots you're expected to find somewhere else to park and walk to the school. There's a lot of rules, policies and a dress code but they only enforce them with students they have a problem with, so try your best to become a favorite or you'll have a bad time. Honestly if you enjoy doing hair, be prepared to lose any passion you have for it because this place will strip you of any love or excitement you have for your future career. I attended PMTS Modesto last year. I had some great teachers, but the school as a whole was a mess. We were not taught anything that we were promised we were going to learn. If we did want to practice with our own supplies, we would get in trouble. But now, students can do all these things and it gets posted on the school's social media? I mean it sucks as a former student to see the things we didn't get taught, now being taught. we literally had a list of things we gave to the instructor that we wanted to learn, and we didn't. For me, the only good memories I have of that place are the friends I made, that have become like family, but other than that it sucked paying $11000 to basically teach yourself. I wish I had a better experience at this school, cuz the "culture" sucked. But that's just my opinion on the school read more

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. If you ever thought about coming here, just remember that it's a SCHOOL and nothing more; you WILL sign a release form. I had an appointment to do ombre hair in the evening so I would have my results by closing time. Two girls worked on my hair. They told me that they would use a different hair dyeing product and assured me that I would get the same results. I stupidly had confidence in them and let them do what they thought was right. I started to notice later that my hair looked nothing like I wanted, but they assured me that by the end it will look like what I want. I sat in that chair for hours while they screwed around, adding more and more of the dye. At the end, they washed it and lo and behold... NOT WHAT I WANTED, LOOKED ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I was visibly upset and had nothing to say. One of the girls finally spoke out and had the nerve to say that it would look nicer in the sun. I went several years without having my hair cut, or dyed, because I couldn't find anyone around that was able to do what I requested. The last person I went to hacked my hair and it left me very wary, to say the least. I took a chance and went to Paul Mitchell to see what they could do. My hair has a natural silver to it now and I wanted to keep it that way, in some areas, while covering the rest with a dark vibrant color. I also needed a cut that added texture and '"flip". Taking that chance was the best choice I could have made. Aurora Z was amazing, she listened to what I wanted and did not hesitate to take my opinion into consideration. The teachers, as well as a fellow student here and there, helped her out when needed (I have alot of hair lol). I recently graduated from the esthetics program. I'm writing this to inform people who are contemplating about coming to this school. I was completely blind sided when I signed up to attend Paul Mitchell in Modesto. On my tour of the school before signing up I was told that all the learning leaders are very advanced. That there would be so many guest artist that come to help further our education, and they would all be here to help. This is a complete lie! The learning leaders are so rude and not willing to help at all. Maximillian should not be an instructor she has a nasty attitude with the students. She yells and talks down to her students but also walks out of the clinic while there are clients (which she's not suppose to do.) There is suppose to be a teacher supervising at all times. She will walk out for 30min to an hour and just leave us with no teacher. The dean Yasmin and her husband are the new owners of this school. They were the former accountants for the old owners. The way they run this school you can see they do not care about the upbringing of new beauty professionals. This school is strictly just a profit for them. When problems were addressed to Yasmin about our concerns with the quality of teaching we were receiving she completely ignored our concerns. I've also NEVER seen her in the 5 months I was at that school attend any of the students graduations. She will walk right past a graduation and not come say congratulations to any of the graduating students. This school in general is ruining the name of Paul Mitchell. Yasmin and her husband need to listen to the concerns of their students. With how this school is being currently ran it's a complete S*** Show. I normally have a great experience and my last experience was no exception, but please please please focus more time to teach the students that you can NOT cut layers the same in fine hair as you do coarse hair. I thought I was going to be okay because the girl who did my hair verbally noticed that I have fine hair and I asked for long layers. I had an AMAZING experience here a few weeks ago. I went in for a lip wax and blowout. The school was INCREDIBLY busy on a Saturday- but they immediately got me checked in and sent on my way to do my lip wax despite the esthetics department about to leave for lunch. My blowout was done by Hailey a cosmo and I absolutely loved her! She was so comfortable and confident. I nearly fell asleep while getting my hair washed and she easily gave me a better blowout than most professional salons I've been to. The teachers were wonderful at checking in to make sure I was completely satisfied with my service- and I really appreciated that. This review is based solely on the interaction with your front desk receptionist/csr. Less than a month ago I called to schedule two facials on the same day for two separate people; one basic facial and one microdermabrasion. I asked to have both appointments booked with the same person in the same day at different times; (clearly knowing she couldn't work on both of our faces at the same time). While scheduling our appointments, I spelled our names out at least 3 times...3 times. Day of the appt - being that the receptionist is considered to be the "face"'of the institution/company, you would expect to have someone greet you with a smile; in this case, it would have been nice just to be greeted! But, it's a school, we can't expect complete professionalism now can we? Unfortunately for us, the person behind the desk seemed as though she wished she wasn't there (based on her face-or maybe that's just her face). We stood there waiting until she finally figured out we were waiting to check in; when providing our names she questioned me like I was crazy to have appointments because she couldn't find our "tickets". Spelled our names for her twice and just as I thought she was paying attention to us by, she takes her earphone out her ear and says, "What was that? I had someone talking in my ear." *Noted* Go to our appointments, which by the way we were not schedule for what I booked. But that's fine, that's because of the front desk...time to wrap it up...again, same girl at the front. How did I get so lucky, I thought to myself. Okay, time to talk to "Miss I don't want to be at my job" again! I mention to her that we were not booked for the appointments I scheduled and she tried to blame the student for it. I clearly stopped her right there because it is not the responsibility of the student to schedule our appointments, it is HER job! Fine, wrap it up, what's my total...hold on, why was the "new customer" discount not calculated on this bill, because she didn't offer it to us. Clearly it's right there as we check out. So I had her adjust the bill along with schedule a rebooking. Just as I think that's the last I need to deal with this person, nope, I had to turn around and walk back in because, AGAIN, our names were spelled incorrectly. Either this person does not know how to listen, how to type, or she just does not give a damn! This review is directly for your front desk person named Danica; please remind her and all others in this position - In the customer service industry, your job is to provide superior customer service. You are the front line to the business and if you are being rude and providing horrible customer service it is a direct reflection on the company. During my visit, in observing you with other customers, the students of the institution, as well as our interaction, you should NOT be the frontline of such a reputable company. Keep in mind, YOU submitted the application for this job. If you do not want to provide superior customer service with a smile, I suggest you let someone who wants to be there take over for you as I'm sure they would do a much better job. read more

If i could give zero stars I absolutely would. I was a student here about a year ago, I graduated in December. Myself along with majority of the students that I know, that have gone to Paul Mitchell will tell you it's a complete joke. The school is ran terribly. From the moment I enrolled, it became evident that the school's promises were nothing more than a facade. The educational quality was shockingly poor, tuition fees felt like a scam, especially considering the lack of valuable education and support provided. It was clear that profit was prioritized over student success and genuine learning. Don't get me wrong there were instructors who cared and were quite helpful, but due to the toxic environment most of them quit, leaving the last few competent ones to struggle. Which is absolutely the schools fault considering the lack of new hires, and some of the ones that they did hire were unhelpful and uneducated. From my experience they way they handle certain situations is absurd. For example, if a student is being bullied or even threatened, the school will do nothing about it. I have seen it happen to others and even experienced it first hand. You would think if a student is being bullied and feeling unsafe (especially with proof) the school would take the correct measures to ensure the situation is handled, News Flash they don't care. As I said before they only care about money and making sure the race card doesn't get pulled. Going back to the lack of education, if you don't already have a knack for doing hair, nails, esthetics, whatever you're doing, unfortunately you will most likely drown. In my case I took the endless days of working on a mannequin head and clients to flourish, and thankfully have turned out pretty successful, but sadly that's not the case for everyone. Paul Mitchell the School Modesto cares more about making money than educating students. It promises a lot but doesn't deliver. So I went to Paul Mitchell the School a few weeks back for a cut and dye. The time was extensive (almost three hours) but the results were decent. Yesterday I went back, asked to have the same processes done again. We started almost 30 mins late, and was left sitting for extended times a couple of time with nothing happening. When we were done, the results were nothing like what I asked for. Apparently the previous stylist had not kept good notes or entries in the database, and her supervisor hadn't bothered to oversee and check her work. This caused the person working with me yesterday to do the wrong process (and in my opinion, wrong color). I can't wait to spend the next few days explaining what happened. Oh yes, while part of the experience was comp'd, the front desk insisted on charging me for the color. (How's that for rubbing a bit of salt in the wound?) this school is a joke. Let me point out first any positive review you find , are all from customers and not students. This "school" a term i will use lightly. Focuses more on the business as a whole and putting money in the pockets of the dean and owner. Do know this is a partner school and not an actual Paul Mitchell stand alone school, which means these people can do whatever they want, however and whenever. This also included using product that is not Paul Mitchell brand, and placing it in a Paul Mitchell branded bottle. Students are not the priority, the conditions of the school itself are pitiful and joke. It starts with mold, putting water in soap to save money, being claimed it's a concentrate when the bottle is from the dollar tree. Hand dryers in the bathrooms that are covered in goo and god knows what else. If you expect to receive an education and be somewhat prepared for your boards and professional life this is not the school for you. You will be told "you learn the basics at beauty school" which to an extent i understand. But why would you be proud of only giving us the bare minimum? But let's go down the list. Never once was i taught by an actual nail tech, not one teacher led a class on how to do a full service manicure hands on, a full service full set, and pedicure. You had to either a. Teach yourself and hope for the best. Or b. Hope and pray that every 4 weeks when it's nail week you get the chance to do hands on and it turns out somewhat okay. Same goes for skin, and that in itself is an issue. At one point, We were told no you cannot preform facials because you are not apart of the esthetician program. So really we receive under the bare minimum. These problems go so much deeper than the education, the staff is on an entirely new level when it comes to disrespect and acting cruelly to students. I'll never forget asking to be taught how to work on African American hair, and was told to my face "well I'm sorry i have to teach other students that day because I'm with the barbers." When i brought that same concern to a learning leader, and was stated "well i taught the barbers how to" so you would think i could ask a barber to help me right? Nope. We have to stay separated from the barbers on the clinic floor. so congrats Jason, all you care about is the barbers and the entire schools knows it. Ask anyone. If you have any from of curly hair or textured hair know this school does not take the health of your hair and scalp seriously. Because we are not taught even on a doll head about curly hair. I received all doll heads that had blonde straight hair. Not real life and as an beauty school you should absolutely be ashamed of denying men and woman proper care for their hair because you lack the knowledge yourself as an institution for education. Pathetic.If you want to go to a school that never has product in stock, blame's it students for using too much lightener, I'm looking at your Cindy I'll never forget you coming on the floor and saying "you guys are using too much lightener too fast" when in reality you people are so stingy all you care about is money and not the education "You guys are going through soap like it's water" can you believe being told your using too much soap? In a profession where health and safety is top priority, at this school it is not. I got a cut preforming a hair cut once and there were zero bandaids in the first air kit, but don't worry they give you two in your scissor kit for a year long program.none of the staff is on the same page about anything one teacher will tell you to use a certain formula and another teacher will say to do something else. For example, if Teacher a told me to do it one way and then teacher b says to do it another. If i choose one and not the other the teacher then confronts the student with anger and rudeness like they have hurt feelings. Like your are grown adult teaching. some of these people are 17 and some are 30 it doesn't matter you stay professional because the student has to right? But you as staff can talk to us however you please.At one point during my education we had questions about hours and how clocking out for 10 min breaks would effect the hours we were to get during the day. Instead of hearing us out Rosemary Savafi said "I'm not going to sit here and argue with you guys." In fact she never once made herself available to us, the dean, too busy to hear out her students who she claims she cares deeply about but at the end of the day you only care about the size of our wallets and filtering students in and out. You cannot tell me I'm wrong as now i have come in as a client you have students doubled up on stations. That would NEVER happen in a professional industry.It's sad how much potential these students have, but they all receive the short end of the stick in their education. In every program. The prices are good, but plan on staying for at least 4 hours, they are students and they have to go by the book. I purchased a VIP card last year ( I've heard they're not selling these anymore) which allowed me to get any service for 50% off all year! This was such a good deal. I've had facials, eye bow & under arm waxing, hair cuts, hair coloring, hair blocking, and deep hair conditioning services. Because I'm a VIP, hair coloring is $17.50! Even box hair color will be about the same price and there's the mess to clean after. I love the atmosphere here, it's so alive. Everyone's friendly and full of energy. Oh and take a sweater, it tends to get chilly after you've in there a while. Maybe even pack a snack. I got my nails done here and honestly it was a really bad experience. I understand that they are in school still, but she was distracted the whole time talking to people around her and not paying attention. By the time she would try to drag the acrylic down it was already dry and she kept packing more acrylic to my nail. I had thick duck nails and I told her I didn't want that. After a week or so of having them two of my nails popped off like they were press ons, so I'm guessing she didn't prep them right. On top of that she took 3 hours to do a full set of acrylics and was still not done by the time she had to go, I didn't even get the design I wanted at all. I had to fix them at home. Will definitely not be going to her but I did go back to get them fixed by someone else and she did so amazing Im extremely happy, she did them exactly as I wanted them and she was focused the entire time and made sure i got what I wanted. read more

Not a good school to attend. If you want to join the beauty industry go to another school, any school is better than PM Modesto. Worst experience I have ever had. You learn more on YouTube. Staff and instructors are a revolving door. The so called Dean Rosemary is a nightmare. Greedy, stingy, and cheap. They teach only using PM products but then don't let you actually use anything because they are cheap to the extreme. Corporate should shut this location down and Government funding should cease because they take the money and give you nothing in return. I feel sorry for the instructors, they had some good ones but ultimately couldn't keep them. And I feel even more bad for the students attending this joke of a school. Update 09/17: I was pleasantly surprised with the quick response I got from the school. Called and offered me a free service due to the inconvenience, which I was happy to try again. And i am so glad I did. I went in with faded boxed dye from doing my hair myself this last year and half to a beautiful look. Kenzi my stylist was amazing. Shes gonna be great catch for whomever hires her after she graduates in November. Already booked my next appointment. Thank you again for reaching out and convincing me to give it another shot. 09/13 I called at 930am this morning requesting an appointment for an all over purple dye and light trim. Immediately they got me scheduled for 130pm. At 12pm I called asking if I need to wash my hair before coming in or anything else. They said no. I get there 15 mins early in case they need me to fill out paperwork. 20 minutes pass, I can see the front desk talking about me. The Receptionist come to me says, "I don't know why you scheduled this time. We don't do dye jobs at this time." She offered other times but unfortunately I couldn't make them work. The hair isn't like that from breakage it's from the girls hair cut, and on top of that the hair color is completely off, I should have just stayed with the way I was in the beginning and never gone in. I understand they are students and learning but no instructor came to look at my hair after she was done or was it styled the picture on the right is exactly how they let me walk out. I did not decline to be seen by anyone else. I would have loved to have been serviced by any of the students! However, I was told that there were no nail students present in the building. I asked if a cosmetology student was available, and I was told that no one was available. This happened both times.
