In the last few years Annette has been my hygienist. She is very nice and super gentle. I have receding gums and some sensitivity as a result but Annette is so meticulous, I never feel the cleaning in any of those sensitive spots. The office is relatively newly renovated, so it's comfortable and bright waiting room to sit in before your appointment begins. They're always pretty close to on time. Even in the middle of the day I don't think I've had to wait more than ten or so minutes for my appointment to begin. I always leave with my teeth clean and bright. They're the first to offer me a fluoride treatment for my sensitive teeth/gums despite complaints of the issue for years prior and that's been amazing! They did my full Invisalign program and they were great. My teeth had this issue where when I closed my mouth the top and bottom molars didn't touch. They even offered a treatment that expedited how quickly the teeth move (science!). I see a lot of complaints about billing and pricing. So they do charge you for services. Their services are covered by my dental insurance and I haven't found the out of pocket costs outlandish. Where certain amounts are not covered I receive a bill in the mail after insurance adjustments. Seems pretty standard. While I'm sure they would be able to help a prospective patient determine if their dental insurance was accepted, that is an essential step that you have to take as a patient with any healthcare provider. They are very thorough and I'm sure they charge accordingly. I have been to some shady dentists and the cost reflected that. I agree it's not ideal to have to pay so much for needed healthcare services, but this is less a Newton Dental Associates problem and more a state of American healthcare problem.

During the cleaning, the hygienist was quite rough and I was poked several times, which hurt. The appointment also ran much longer than expected, so my parking expired and I had to leave to move my car, and overall the visit took so long that I missed lunch and was extremely hungry by the end. After I returned, additional imaging was done by another assistant, which again took a long time and was uncomfortable because she took so many tries. While the dentist apologized and explained new patients usually take longer, it overall wasn't very reassuring. The whole experience felt so poorly managed. I left feeling sore, hungry, and stressed, and came home in tears. Because of this experience, I just can't return.

My whole family has been regular patients in this place. Recently, we received a very rude reminder about dental cleaning and a threatening message that if we don't schedule our last cleaning for the fiscal year, our account will be deactivated! What is that supposed to mean? I don't understand what kind of business this place is running if they think these kind of messages are going to bring more clients?! Quite the opposite! It is unheard of hygiene appointments to be required so patients can keep their account active! Usually, dental facilities and private offices send friendly reminders for the patients to take advantage of a covered by insurance dental cleaning since there are only 2 per year. The manager needs to really apologize to all patients who received this kind of unpleasant email or text message as this is really unprofessional and totally unacceptable! After all, there are at least 30 other dental offices in the areas near by Newton Corner, Watertown, Brighton and Waltham. This kind of treatment of the patients would completely drive them away! The only tricky part is sometimes finding parking in the area but you can conveniently take the D line to Newton Center as well. Unfortunately I received notice he had to evacuate this leased space immediately because of property owner lease termination so he no longer works in this office since end of February 2019. It was very unfortunate circumstances when he sent me the email. I never received any follow up anyway of whether he secured a new office space so I changed Dental practices. Shame. He was relatively accommodating for first thing in the morning appointments for me before some medical issues. There were a few times where he emailed me to adjust the time or date of my cleaning/exam. The appointments were also always so fast! Which makes a generally unpleasant experience more bearable. Now that I've gone to another practice that measures my gum line levels, I'm not sure if his were as thorough. Hope that he is doing well and continues to provide patients with dental care.

The front desk ladies are so nice and friendly. Dr. Sofman does all the work himself including the cleaning with his assistant.
