Some days the universe is looking out for you. We had a catastrophic failure of the hitch that attaches my wheelchair trailer, and were literally across the street from Paul's Automotive. We pulled in, not sure what the problem was (other than the trailer was swaying in a way it shouldn't) and the owner, Steven (Paul's his dad) came out, had a look underneath, and while he's still under there, we hear him say, "F*ck. Oh man, you guys are f*cked!" Never a good sign. Turns out the hitch was sheering away from the frame of the car. Like, literally had torn metal away. When he got the trailer off and the car lifted, he found it was even worse than it first looked: the only thing holding the hitch to the car was the electrical wire to the trailer. If we'd gone another quarter mile my $6000 wheelchair and $5000 trailer would have gone sailing into traffic! So bad luck, but also very good luck that we stopped where we did. This gentleman is AWESOME. He goes basically, "This is effed up and I can't let you guys go out of here with it like this, you'll wreck." He got us in as an emergency, hopped us right to the front of the queue, even though they had a full schedule and this is at least a couple hours of work. He's welding on metal to cover the broken parts, and will weld the hitch back to the car, which should make it a lot stronger than it was. And on top of that, he is only charging us a few hundred bucks. Man is a saint. Watched him with his employees, too, and he's just a plain old good guy. He clearly cares about safety and quality, and he's smart, thoughtful, and kind. It'd be a drive for us, since we live in Damascus, but I'd 100% come back to him for service. You should, too.

Paul's was busy on a Wednesday late afternoon, as any good mechanic would be. I came in because my truck had been overheating and the Jiffy Lube tried but did not solved my problem. Paul's diagnosis that I needed a new head gasket and gave me an estimate on the job which I agreed to. They were very good about communicating with me as they found things that needed to be done. In all, they tuned up my truck, replaced the head gasket and had to have the head ground, replaced the water pump and flushed my fluid system. I feel with all the work that they did that it was reasonably priced and they kept the cost within the original estimate. I was also very pleased that they worked overtime on a Friday evening so that I could have my truck for the weekend. Even for the small stuff from now on, they have a new client. I'll be back.

Bought this 86 that had sat and had issues. They fixed it up. They next week I drove it 2,000 miles across the country with 0 issues.

I don't even live in Oregon anymore and still wanted to take the time to review Paul's shop, that's how positive my experience has been every time I've been in. From the front to the back of the house these guys get it done with professionalism, transparency, and courtesy. They've always worked with my schedule, usually same day for routine services. Steven has gone as far as to lend me tools (if you've ever turned a wrench you know what a big deal that is) and stand in the parking lot, working on my truck after the shop was closed so that I could get back on the road. Wouldn't even accept a tip or a six pack of beer for the favor. They're all stand up guys like that, and they do solid work. I've never had a comeback or secondary issue, just gets fixed right the first time with no hassle. If you need a repair in Portland this is the place to go. 10/10

Paul's Automotive is a good place to go with your vehicle or you'll get a fair price for quality service.

They were upfront and honest about what needed to be done, and I never felt like they were trying to upsell me on anything unnecessary. Which is really tough to find in Portland nowadays. Will definitely be bringing my truck back here whenever it needs work. Highly recommend them this shop!

DO NOT trust nor do business with this company. I knew I was buying a salvage vehicle and…read moreunderstood the inherent risks that go with buying one. But, I had an independent mechanic conduct a pre-purchase inspection and also purchased a five year extended warranty. The mechanic found no major issues, so I felt comfortable buying it. I made the trip from Chico California to Portland by Amtrak (14 plus hours) so that I could see and drive it for myself. Unfortunately, in the 20-25 minutes it took the Uber driver to go from Amtrak to their office, upon walking into the lot saw a major dent on the driver side door. The salesperson stayed a parking lot attendant had hit the vehicle causing significant damage to the door and panel to the right of the door. I would have had a body shop give an estimate but it was after 5 pm on a Friday (March 24, 2023) by the time I got to the dealership and the salesperson assured me there was no structural damage. There was no reasonable way to stay Friday, Sat and Sunday to get a quote(s) from at least one or two body shops that Monday. The owner indicated it would only cost them $1000 to fix it and they'd ship it to me. Not wanting to trust their work I requested they agree to pay the cost based on at least three quotes in Chico. They said no and settled on only covering me for $2500. I should've known better but was exhausted and didn't want to take a train back. It was exceedingly bad decision to acquiesce and am now stuck with this problem. I got completely ripped off because the damage to the vehicle that they did, supposedly in the 20 minute ride from Amtrak. For all I know is the damage happened days before I left Chico and they knew if I got there after traveling such a long distance I'd be less likely to walk away. Now I'm looking at least spending another $6000 to repair the damage because of structural damage to the driver side door post, having to replace the driver side door with a new down, and damage further down. I would never recommend this company as they clearly knew this vehicle had more substantial damage than what they indicated. Making it more skeevy was the salesperson telling me they would be fixing it in house & would only cost the owner $1000 to make the repairs. In retrospect, it tells me they're either ignorant, incompetent or outright deceptive. Let my crappy decision serve as a warning that you will likely get ripped off. Do not use this company because the salespeople and owner are unscrupulous. If I could give less than a one star I would.
