Not a fan. Had my car sourced to this shop from a body shop and everything that was done by Paul's had to be redone. Let's see...vacuum leak causing car to stutter, stall, and break down. Some days the universe is looking out for you. We had a catastrophic failure of the hitch that attaches my wheelchair trailer, and were literally across the street from Paul's Automotive. We pulled in, not sure what the problem was (other than the trailer was swaying in a way it shouldn't) and the owner, Steven (Paul's his dad) came out, had a look underneath, and while he's still under there, we hear him say, "F*ck. Oh man, you guys are f*cked!" Never a good sign. Turns out the hitch was sheering away from the frame of the car. Like, literally had torn metal away. When he got the trailer off and the car lifted, he found it was even worse than it first looked: the only thing holding the hitch to the car was the electrical wire to the trailer. If we'd gone another quarter mile my $6000 wheelchair and $5000 trailer would have gone sailing into traffic! So bad luck, but also very good luck that we stopped where we did. This gentleman is AWESOME. He goes basically, "This is effed up and I can't let you guys go out of here with it like this, you'll wreck." He got us in as an emergency, hopped us right to the front of the queue, even though they had a full schedule and this is at least a couple hours of work. He's welding on metal to cover the broken parts, and will weld the hitch back to the car, which should make it a lot stronger than it was. And on top of that, he is only charging us a few hundred bucks. Man is a saint. Watched him with his employees, too, and he's just a plain old good guy. He clearly cares about safety and quality, and he's smart, thoughtful, and kind. It'd be a drive for us, since we live in Damascus, but I'd 100% come back to him for service. Simple front suspension check, never gave me a price. Faulty strut that's a warranty issue but way overcharged. Could have just taken it to the dealer and payed less. Have taken my cars to these guys for years, now new employees at ripoff prices. Tesla charges $77.50, all I asked was to check the front shocks, $150 and told it took two mechanics. read more

Paul's was busy on a Wednesday late afternoon, as any good mechanic would be. I came in because my truck had been overheating and the Jiffy Lube tried but did not solved my problem. Paul's diagnosis that I needed a new head gasket and gave me an estimate on the job which I agreed to. They were very good about communicating with me as they found things that needed to be done. In all, they tuned up my truck, replaced the head gasket and had to have the head ground, replaced the water pump and flushed my fluid system. I feel with all the work that they did that it was reasonably priced and they kept the cost within the original estimate. I was also very pleased that they worked overtime on a Friday evening so that I could have my truck for the weekend. Even for the small stuff from now on, they have a new client. I don't even live in Oregon anymore and still wanted to take the time to review Paul's shop, that's how positive my experience has been every time I've been in. From the front to the back of the house these guys get it done with professionalism, transparency, and courtesy. They've always worked with my schedule, usually same day for routine services. Steven has gone as far as to lend me tools (if you've ever turned a wrench you know what a big deal that is) and stand in the parking lot, working on my truck after the shop was closed so that I could get back on the road. Wouldn't even accept a tip or a six pack of beer for the favor. They're all stand up guys like that, and they do solid work. I've never had a comeback or secondary issue, just gets fixed right the first time with no hassle. If you need a repair in Portland this is the place to go. 10/10 read more

Full disclosure: These are my neighbors. I can walk there in two or three minutes. I've been going here since moving to Portland, and have not had one criticism. All of the staff are excellent, and I feel so lucky to have them as neighbors. I use them for oil changes and tune ups. I use them for dead batteries (they can walk to my place, and charge the battery so I can drive to their place for battery testing). They help when I have loosed something from the undercarriage. Even when I have told them that cash flow is tough, they have adjusted their service and accommodated me. I can't emphasize how much I appreciate everyone at Paul's. Steven is the MAN! read more

They put a new clutch set in a 89 Ford F-150 for my co-worker and now can't put the transmission into gear. The bill was way higher then they 1st quoted also. Anyway, he's having it towed to anther shop to fix it right. They would most likely fix it "but" the shop i'm having him send it to would of been half of what they charged anyway. So he might as well go to someone who does NOT charge what dealerships charge. If you don't mind paying what dealerships charge, i'm sure their fine. read more

I had a $1500 radiator repair replacement on a diesel 6.7L f350 done 2 weeks ago at Paul's automotive on SE Foster and 122nd Ave. I checked the coolant recovery tank today since I will be pulling a large travel trailer tomorrow and it was below the minimum level. I stopped by Paul's today at 3pm and asked them to top it off. The man at the counter named Eric said they were to busy to help me. I reminded him I just paid him $1500 for the repair and it should be full. He said "I could look at it but I won't". I said, "I know you can so it is a problem that you won't". Recently took my truck into Paul's Automotive. Everything was great at first. Spent a ton of money there. First day getting my truck back it dies on me, have it towed back.. They then figured out what the real issue was after I'd payed over 500 dollars already. I made the mistake of letting them continue to work on it for another 250 , long story short. I Get my truck back and it began overheating first day(no fluid in radiator). It pisses me off when u pay all this money and they don't even check your basic fluids. I took my car to Pauls Automotive for a repair. They worked on my exaust manifolds. When I got the car back many things did not work: a dash mounted tailgate window switch was broken, my recently repaired AC Compressor was damaged, and my heator core was leaking fluid. Steven Kolias the owner flat out denied responsibility, saying he had no reason to touch the damaged items. But I know for a fact their tech was the last to roll my tailgate window down. Needless to say, I refused to let them do repairs on things I felt they damaged so I took it to another shop. There it was confirmed that tool marks were left on my compressor that showed it had been tampered with. Pauls Automotive has given me nothing but grief and cost me a lot of money. The owner will not even return my calls. I will never go there again. read more

It is so refreshing to find a qualified honest auto shop! I took in my audi to get a quote on getting my timing belt changed. manuall said 60k. Any way quote was $1100! Not excited about the price but way cheaper than the dealership. I gave the greenlight to proceed. Just received a voicemail from Paul's letting me know that my model had a timing chain as apposed to the typical belt. No change requird! Thanks for being honest! Paul's automotive fixed my clutch in my 98' Tacoma back in October of 2015 and did a fine job. A little pricy compared to other quotes but it was near my home and they did a quick job. After the starter went out on my mom's 97' Dodge Dakota, I helped her start it with a little banging of a the starter and 100 key turns(no exaggeration.) After the truck was started I called Paul's automotive and asked for a price quote. The gentleman who answered the phone said he couldn't quote a price because the lady who does price quotes wasn't in and would call back with a quote later. I asked the gentleman if I could store the vehicle at the shop in the meantime as it took so much effort to get the car running, he assured that would be fine which I was happy with. Long story short, they quoted my mother $365 to replace the starter, which she agreed to without my consultation. I would not have taken it there if we would have known it costed that much. Although if you want you vehicle fixed and running in two hours, it is very pricy to do so. Pauls explained to my mother the costs were so high as it took 1.5 hours to fix at $90 an hour plus testing time(seems like starting the vehicle should be a pretty quick test.) Other shops quoted a range from $235-$270 after calling around later that afternoon. If you want your car fixed quick and right, take it here but you will be spending more money than taking it elsewhere. read more

I don't have anything to compare the service to, because this was my first mechanic experience (I've always had family do it for me). Given the make of my car, this problem needed some more expert attention. I was extremely nervous, was expecting a huge bill, and big surprises. The only surprise I got was the constant clear communication and the fact that my bill was about half as much as I was expecting, AND I was able to pick my car up the same day I dropped it off! We brought our family vehicle to Paul's Automotive to get our heater core fixed. After the vehicle was fixed supposedly we pick the vehicle up and had to return it shortly because the heater core went "foul". They told us we would need to wait weeks to get it back in???? Well i paid 1000+ shouldn't i be put ahead of your new jobs? So we wait. Once we take the car back and get a pick up date, when that day comes we get the run around for two three more days. Once the car is "fixed" again we pick it up it is the beginning of summer everything okay with A/C winter comes back and what do you kno! The heater core blowing water and steam up my windshield almost killing my girlfriend and kids who couldnt see on the freeway! So i call today and say hello this is the fella with the heater core issue do you remember who i am, yes of course she "Carly" replied. Well the heater core is doing the same thing it was doing the first two times i brought it to get serviced from you guys. And she replies that I won't be able to bring the car in until next week??? I am flabbergasted that they would even consider not putting my over 6 months ago job that they never did correct to the side for another week's worth of their income! Actually I'm outraged I wouldn't spend another dollar or wouldn't advise anyone else too they said call him back in 1 hour so that's what I'll do they also said I can call one of there insurance companies that they set up through O'Reilly and they can direct me elsewhere to get it fixed....
