What a fun place. Yelp check in=free donut! Go early if you can. They were out of a couple things by 12. High quality pastries and donuts. The jelly donut holes were still available, they were SO GOOD! The jelly was typical (I wish it was homemade) but the dough was incredible. Slightly crispy on the outside, even after the powdered sugar, and so soft in the middle, not dry at all. Good ratio of jelly to dough, this is very important! The cinnamon sugar cake donut was delish, granulated sugar in this case, one of my faves. Birthday cake by the slice-oh yeah! Great amount of frosting, yellow cake with white frosting, the sugary frosting, A+. Other things in the case looked great too, I got so much I had no room for the eclairs but based on how they looked I would tell you to get one. Delirious and hard to walk out with only what you went in for... tons of goodies speedy service and usually a line, but worth it.

I came in around noon and got me a dozen mixed donuts. Each and everyone of them were very tasty!! Move over Krispy Kreme, i found me a new spot. Wish this place was closer to where I live, but this is definitely worth the drive to get awesome donuts. $10 a dozen, you can't go wrong with that. You get half a dozen for free later in the evening, I guess it makes sense since they want to get rid of any remaining donuts before closing time. Definitely will be back for more!! read more

Love Paul's Bakery! Fantastic pastries. Dollar for dollar there is no comparison to to chain donut locations around town. The donuts are larger, and actually have filling in them, unlike others in the Fredericksburg Central Park location, and the line is almost always to the door. It's not the most convenient location, but if you want quality donuts that are not frozen and shipped in like some others in town, stop into Paul's. You won't regret it. I try to support local businesses and their products are good. But the current ownership and employees act as if they don't care to stay in businesses. They finally got rid of a very vulgar employee who was simply unpleasant to the customers. Now, they act as if they are taking their customers for granted. The two ladies behind the counter were very friendly and let me know since it was my first time I got a free donut and that they were also giving away pumpkin pie slices. Everything looked so yummy. This place has been around since '73, family-owned and -operated, and besides offering old-fashioned doughnuts, they also have pastries, brownies, custom-order sheet cakes, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, pies, and packaged cookies. They currently have a 'Buy 12, get 1/2 a dozen free,' so, of course, I went out of town. I got: a Glazed Sour Cream, a Maple Sour Cream, a Glazed Devil's Food, a Glazed Ring, a Honeybun, a Maple, a Maple Bacon, a Maple Nut, a Coconut, an Oreo, a Glazed Twist, a Glazed Buttercream, a Glazed Apple, a Glazed Blueberry, a Blueberry, a Glazed Cherry, a Glazed Lemon, and a Glazed Strawberry. These doughnuts were fresh and yummy, and my favorites so far is the Maple Sour Cream (dense and cake-like, with a great maple taste), the Blueberry (slightly cake-y with a heavy blueberry taste!), and the Glazed Ring (soft and yeasty). Maven, who assisted us, was so sweet and offered customer favorites as well as favorites of her own. The only thing I have ever had here would be their cake donuts, because they're so good I can't bear to have anything else! I have had the blueberry cake donut and the Red velvet cake donut - my absolute favorite donut of all time! The only thing that could have made the red velvet cake donut even more perfect would have been a cream cheese icing drizzle on top!
