First time visiting the Pavilion rooftop bar for a drinks and appetizers. Beautiful rooftop views overlooking Charleston water front! They have a nice variety of drink specials and delicious appetizers! We had the shrimp and mango salsa and the flatbread pizza special. Both were very delicious! Service was excellent too! We will be back!

View | Pool | Thai Chili View--The view is the main attraction of the Pavilion Bar. It's on top of a hotel, and you have 270-degree views of Charleston. You can see the water, cruise ships, and all the bridges. Pool - the hotel's pool isn't very large. It is a sitting area for about 12 people by the pool where you can get in up to your waist to get wet. It's right by the bar, which is nice in some ways and inconvenient in some ways. The main issue with the pool sitting area is that it doesn't have a great separation from the bar. Therefore, if you're a bar patron, you're inconveniencing people; if you're at the pool, you feel inconvenienced by people at the bar. Thai Chili--We grabbed drinks and fries in the vegetable spring rolls as an appetizer before dinner at a different location. The fries in the vegetable rolls were good, but the highlight for both was the Thai chili sauce, which was pretty fantastic on both, so we highly recommend that. Pro tip: The spring rolls are fried; therefore, if you think they are a traditional type of spring roll, they are not, so be prepared. Pro tip: There is hardly any parking, so add 10-15 minutes to your travel time. Should you get parking? It's probably better if you walk, especially if you're going anywhere in the downtown area. Pro tip: don't go into the pool the pool had birds all day flying in and out of it playing in it. Therefore it isn't the cleanest place. Why not five stars? - It was solid not amazing. It was pretty standard for rooftop hotel bars. Great view, but the food wasn't spectacular. The drinks were good not spectacular. Therefore, in such a culinary town, it's a place that is nice to go, not a place that you have to go.

Great view and great food! It's a fun vibe for a warm evening. Steak kabob and whipped beet dip.

Solid martini with the best unobstructed rooftop views. We really wanted to see the water and the boats- and this spot had it all. Also their pool area that you sit around is charming. Just a wonderful place to pause and enjoy !! Service from Berk was amazing- he was literally single handedly taking care of 10 tables without skipping a beat. Impressive !!!!

Great views of Charleston on top of the Market Pavilion Hotel. Nice seating with clear dividers. Drink are strong but good. Had a flat bread as a snack while taking in the beautiful views. Service is what made this a 4 star and not a 5.

Pavillion Punch - essentially a hurricane or pirate's punch. Very tasty but over-priced at $15

I had friends visiting from Australia this weekend. They had few requirements when I asked what activities they'd like to do, but among the 'musts' was a visit to a rooftop bar. Market Pavillion Bar has seen several menu changes in the last few years. Covid changed the landscape of offerings, so I get it. I used to enjoy the duck nachos, but the days of fun appetizers and swizzle drinks at this venue are long gone. I took my friends up here for the view. It didn't disappoint. But after four Dirty Bird Martinis and a couple of Pavillion Punches, we were well over $100 without food. I still want to love this place, but I cannot get past the fact that other venues can 'achieve the pour' for less money and still turn out a good drink. What I do know is that if you want to pay for a view, this is the place to check out, even if it's only for one cocktail, before moving on to the next venue.

Have been here a couple times & have had the same experience. Stunning view of Charleston & nice atmosphere. Tonight it took almost 30 mins to get 2 vodka sodas from 1 of 3 servers. It wasn't packed but busy - but only one older bartender who moved at a slow pace unless you were AT the bar. Then we had to chase down the server for our check that took another 30mins. Never checked on us once after he dropped our drinks. Overall just sad their service is so poor. And the bathrooms were filthy & the doorknobs were falling off!

We stopped by for something to eat after walking around town and we are happy we found this place. It is up on the roof with a nice view. The service was very good and really enjoyed everything we ordered. They were all so yummy!

This is a true example of hidden in plain site! I have traveled to Charleston, SC many times in the past 20 years but it wasn't till recently I discovered this roof top bar! The drinks are delicious but the ambiance and views are worth noting. If you're everything walking down East Bay Street trying to find a place during happy hour, hop on the elevator to the roof top bar!

Best roof top views in Charleston! Order the Tuna Tower; don't look at the price. Just get it! It's loaded with fresh ahi tuna and local CHS crab! Then order yourself a Sweet Tea Martini Enjoy the views and impeccable service. We come here every single time we are in Charleston.

In my limited experience as a tourist in beautiful Charleston this maybe the best view of the harbor in town ! It really is something else! That said, going up to the bar isn't very straightforward. It's a little chaotic...there isn't a person taking you to a table...before or after you get into the elevator to the bar. The tables are first come first serve, which is just fine if you don't mind the randomness and it's not yet packed. I came here for the view, and stayed because they had a desert that was interesting to me. Over all, service is not bad, I think they need some help but who doesn't theses days. As a person who loves views, this one overcomes any minor negatives or inconvenience. Wouldn't hesitate to com back!

I know it sounds funny to rave about chicken nuggets, but these were honestly some of the best I've ever had. They reminded me so much of McDonald's chicken nuggets in the best possible way. I stayed for a drink and ended up getting treated to an incredible thunder and lightning show over the city. It wasn't even raining, which made it even cooler to watch from the rooftop. Between the amazing views, the friendly bartender who saved me from going to bed hungry, and unexpectedly fantastic chicken nuggets, this ended up being one of my favorite stops in Charleston. I'll definitely be back for another drink...and another order of chicken nuggets.

The roof top however gives off more of a college/dive bar vibe despite having a great view of the city. When we went on Monday only one bar, the downstairs one was open. Despite there being servers it didn't seem that anyone wanted to take tables so the solution was for guests to order drinks/food at the downstairs bar and bring it up to the deck themselves. While the bartender was nice, fast, and good at her job everyone else around her just didn't seem to care to provide service. The chips on the trio platter were beyond stale and since servers didn't care to serve the top deck tables were left unbussed and dirty. Not sure if this experience was a case of severe understaffing or just negligence on the management. I'd recommend going to literally any other rooftop bar for a more elevated experience where the staff actually wants to serve the guests.

You can tell the bartenders know exactly what they're doing. The surprise star of the night, though, was the grilled cheese. Calling it a grilled cheese almost feels unfair because this thing was next-level. Sometimes the simplest thing on a menu ends up stealing the show. The atmosphere strikes that perfect Charleston balance of classy, cozy, and effortlessly cool. Great service, great drinks, and one of the most memorable grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had. If you're in Charleston and appreciate a serious cocktail program, The Gin Joint is a must-visit. There's artwork and writing all over the ceiling, and the whole place has a very intimate, moody vibe. I would 100% bring a date here. Our bartenders were also phenomenal and really added to the experience. We came to celebrate during my birthday and started with a champagne flight, which was such a fun touch. For food, we ordered the steak and eggs and the Applewood bacon omelette. My girlfriend's steak and eggs were phenomenal. Truly no notes. Everything was cooked well, the pacing was great, and we never felt rushed. I ordered the Applewood bacon omelette, and this was really my only disappointment. There was almost too much bacon, which sounds ridiculous to complain about, but hear me out. The bacon was diced extremely fine, almost to the consistency of bacon bits, while the onions were left sliced. I think it would have worked much better if either the bacon had been cut a little larger or the onions had been diced down to match. The textures just felt mismatched. I could absolutely see the vision, and the flavor was there, but the execution was a little off. I ended up regretting my choice a little and wishing I had ordered the mushroom omelette instead. That is definitely what I'll be trying next time. I also wish there had been an option to substitute the home fries. This is definitely more of a personal preference, but home fries feel so overdone as a brunch side, and I would have loved another option. Those were really my only critiques in an otherwise fantastic experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the bartenders were phenomenal, the pacing was great, and the food overall was delicious. Church and Union is absolutely somewhere I would come back to, whether for another celebration, brunch, or a date night.
