I just walked into one of the restrooms and it smells so bad. Have you ever used a park restroom and it no matter what smells like piss. That's what it smells like. Today was my first time coming here and it was very cute and nostalgic for me. I usually go to whole foods and coming here today made me very nostalgic of being a kid and going on a trip to the market with my mom. They're fully stocks with all the traditional items and brands you grew up with. Not to mention a very cute floral section. I also liked that they carry newer brands and vegan items that I normally buy. The produce section was big and hearty. The whole layout of the store is very sweet , beyond just grocery they have a little bit of everything, office supplies, cards, cleaning , pet , and pharmacy as well. Would definitely return , and recommend. Wasn't too crowded and parking lot is nice and spacious. read more

Usually pretty happy with the Pavilions, but tonight was a big disappointment. Ran down to buy Oreos. Big signs on all fo them, buy one party pack get a 2nd for free, same or lesser value. So I pick up two of them. , go to the self checkout it charges me for both. No attendant there. Only one cashier open but they cannot help, so I just abandon the self checkout go to checkout and same thing, I tell them they have signs saying buy one get second for free, their only comment was sorry, have to pay for both. So I returned one and left, but pretty sure that is completely illegal. And servic ethere tonight was about as bad as it could be. read more

I just love my Pavilions in South Pasadena! It's clean, fully stocked, and what keeps me coming back are the employees. They are the best. Always cordial, helpful and hardworking! Today I want to give a shout out to Monica the bagger. She ALWAYS is so helpful. Always smiling. My cashier was Tonya. She was very efficient. And the other day when I was there Ed was great. The managers Daniel and Gio are great too. If you want a pleasant shopping experience and quality products (deli dept, meat dept) this is the store you want to shop at. I've been shopping here for over 8 years. It's gradually gotten worse and worse. It used to be my #1 grocery store. No longer. I almost never can get all of what's on my list. They don't have self-checkout, so why bother for a few things. Early on in the pandemic, they had one checkout line. Shoppers were called up to available checkers. That was a good idea. A few months back, they stopped that and checkout can become a crowded dangerous hassle. I see a lot of customers--and sometimes employees--either without masks or with maskes on the chin. No enforcement. Omar-cron is coming hard as a MF. They need to step up their protocols. I won't be going back anytime soon. Ralph's on Huntington is much more often better with LOTS of self-checkout stations. read more

This review is strictly for the the Pharmacy: There are a couple nice people here. The young man who works the register is one of them. However the main ladies (blond and brunette) are absolutely unprofessional. They need to take unconscious biased training. That and I need my prescription ready the day they are due. Like the nearly identical Von's across the street, this store is well stocked and is located near a residential neighborhood. If you live in the neighborhood, it serves well as a large convenience store; it probably has what you need and you will be able to park there. It is also pleasant and clean. Other than that, it sucks in every way a grocery store can suck. Meat and dairy items consistently spoil well before their use-by dates. At some point in the chain, they are not refrigerating these these items correctly, and this has been true for all the 25 years I have been occasionally shopping here. In the past, they went big on the common grocery-store scam of charging higher prices at the register than the ones marked on the shelf, so you had to write down every shelf price and put the poor cashier in a difficult position by demanding the prices marked. They don't do this as much today as they did 10 or 20 years ago, but you still should be careful. They still stock produce and other items with no prices on the shelf, which invariably turn out to be absurdly expensive at the register. Checkout lines are very long at peak times. Prices are high, partially because of the real estate values in this neighborhood. Do your main shopping somewhere cheaper, like the Food4Less in El Sereno or the nearby Trader Joes. read more

They have a better selection of food than other stores and their $5 Friday deals are pretty good. It's tough to walk past their bakery section without eyeing the delicious looking desserts. South Pasadena Pavilions has the best butchers and meat selection is amazing. I love the snake river farms products they carry. This Thursday when I took my kids to Pavillion to pick up a few things, I saw a suspicious person wearing very heavy black clothes walking very fast passing me, with a security guard maybe 20 steps behind chasing him. My kids were hanging out not far away behind me when I noticed the person in black. So I immediately asked my kids if the person had run into them. My daughter told me when this person passed her, he bumped over the shopping cart, which got ramped into my daughter. My daughter got really surprised. After I I checked out, I told the manager about it. She apologized and told me next time they saw the thief they would call 911. I am pretty upset this is the first time such a thing happened to my family. I don't think Pavilion is a safe place for family to shop any more. I don't like how the manager showed very little empathy to my family. She cares more about the theft. She doesn't seem to realize not having a safe environment is what customers care about. I went to this store today which is in the midst of a remodel but nonetheless proclaimed it was open. Yet once inside I discovered that it had no dairy products or eggs, no meat, no frozen food, no cheeses, and most of the produce shelves were empty. In addition, there was no bakery and no deli service. Why did they not simply close the store? This was completely disrespectful to their customers and a waste of time. But I didn't I don't appreciate the abuse he gave me because he didn't give me a chance to react or do anything. This store has the most pronounced stocking issues and inconsistencies. About a year ago, people from corporate were doing an evaluation (I could tell because of their Safeway logo dress shirts, and pieces of equipment I didn't recognize), and they even mentioned the stocking inconsistencies. What is most frustrating is that tags on the shelf will still be up for items that are obviously out of stock, and will not be back in-store for a while. I have had to mention to staff about this quite a few times, for different items. I think they are understaffed, in general, and as a result, other aspects suffer. The merger made things worse, not the better. I give it two stars because the employees are genuinely good people, and do there jobs to the best of their abilities. But decisions made at the top are leading to systemic declines. Since the merger, other Pavilions/Vons have started having similar, though less pronounced, stocking inconsistencies. read more

This review is just for the Pharmacy, which my Doctor has on speed dial whenever I need particular medicines. The staff there know me pretty well, and very nice about letting me know when a prescription is in, or whether it's in stock. My insurance pays almost all the costs of these prescriptions, except for one, which is $100/month. Well, I needed to get another pharmacy because it was just too high. It turns out if you use a 90 day mail prescription, costs are much less in most cases. But for the immediate needs, this pharmacy serves me well and has never failed me. I am happy they have competent technicians and pharmacists that know the medicines and effects with other medications. read more

Over and over again, the past few years have really shown how incompetent management can be, here. They can't seem to get certain items (that they already have tags on the shelf for! - yet are out of stock), despite repeated requests to restock that item. It just seems too HARD to get! Went there today (29June), and several half-gallons of milk on the dairy shelf were PAST their 'expiration' date - by several days! (Not even the 99¢ Only store or Big Lots pulls that crap!) They seem to go through a lot of 'baggers', too. Not sure if it's because: - They don't train them properly (I've asked - they say they don't receive any training - and it shows!) - They don't figure they'll stay there long. - They just don't care. The paper bags they use with those cheaply, glued-on handles suck ass, too! Mostly because many of the Untrained baggers tend to overload the bags - causing the handles to fail - resulting in your groceries to spill-out - in the parking lot - inside the car - all over the driveway at home - all over the sidewalk - all over the staircase - all over the kitchen floor (like today! - see photo) Why so incompetent? This is my go-to market when I am home. I honestly dont know why there is a Vons right next to Pavilions because theyre basically the samething but I prefer coming to Pavilions just because getting in and out of Pavillions is much easier than going to Vons. I love this market because their products are so fresh and high quality. I have to admit that it is pricey and much more expensive than other competitive markets nearby but I think you get what you paid for. I love the produce section as well as their wines. Workers here are usually all nice but some are racists. It's pretty obvious when he or she does it because they will never say hi or thank you to you if youre asian. No, seriously? Whatever, if it happens again, I am going to tell the manager. Other than that, everything is cool. read more

Wow, I haven't written a review in a while, but this is bad. Lately, my visits have been less than satisfying to this Pavilions. Last time I went, they had almost no produce left, and the produce and meats they had did not look good. There's been a couple occasions where they left old moldy ham on the shelf past its expiration date, and moldy tortillas. Now, I just bought a dozen roses, and when I get home, two stems are actually cut and fell off. I have a photo included. This is quite disappointing since this was for an anniversary. I'm generally not excited about chain grocery stores, but this Pavilions in South Pas is worth mentioning. It's absolutely the best managed grocery store that I've ever been to. I come here often for a wide variety of fresh flowers that are always on sale. The produce section includes everything from fennel to red walnuts. Everything in this store is fresh. There's always a sale in the meat department as well as generous discounts throughout the store for customers enrolled in the rewards program. The staff are always very helpful. Their friendly demeanor gives it a feel of being in a small neighborhood store. There's a starbucks inside with staff just as cordial as the members throughout the store. It makes grocery shopping less dreadful. read more

One of the great enigmas is why this three square mile city has a Pavillions and Vons right across from each other since they sell the same stuff. It's been this way as long as I can remember. I usually shop at Vons since I'm a "regular person" and Pavilions has branded itself for the richer, upscale classes. =p So why am I giving Pavilions five-stars? Freshly prepared sushi review - 3 1/2 stars. THE AMBIANCE: I come to Pavilions when I am in the mood for fast-food style sushi. I normally make a trip during lunch. There is a small sushi counter towards the far back on the left side of the store. The same sushi chef is always there. THE SUSHI AND ACCESSORIES: You basically have to choose from the selection that the sushi chef made that day. Generally, there are a lot of rolls with spicy tuna and I am not a big fan. Sometimes there is sashimi. The sushi is prepared and placed in a metal display for customers to grab. I guess my 3 1/2 stars is due to the selection. It's a hit or miss. Pros: The hot & cold deli sections. 3 types of chicken-fried, BBQ bake & roasted. The salads variety was pretty good. I've been going to this grocery store since I was a kid. It's down the street from my house which makes it super convenient. The store is always clean and the staff is really helpful. It has it's busy moments so I suggest going during the day when most people are at work. There's a big, private parking lot and parking on the street if needed. They have a coin counting machine inside, but no RedBox. There's a Starbucks inside. They also have a great greeting card selection. read more

Apparently the cake that had been selected for a baby shower this weekend wasn't going to be able to be made the way it was agreed. This place has gone downhill so fast. One of the main reasons why I would go there instead of vons or other nearby grocery stores was the great customer service. This is a review for "Upscale Safeway", aka Pavilions. I usually go to the Ralph's, because I'm under the impression that the prices are lower there. But yesterday, I decided to change things up and go to Pavilions instead. I needed butter lettuce, anchovies, and olives to complete the ingredient list for nicoise salad. I already made a trip to the "normal" grocery store and alas, no luck with finding these items. I found a butter lettuce mix in a bag, which was a whopping $4. So, I asked the guy stocking produce if they had regular butter lettuce. He showed me a fancy packaged lettuce that still had it's root ball. "This is on sale for $1.50". No way!! There was only one on the shelf, but he immediately went to the back and got 2 of them for me. Side note: that was the crispest, freshest tasting lettuce I've EVER had. You think the hydroponic stuff is good? You should try this one with the roots still attached! They had the anchovies for $3.50, which is supposed to be a pretty good deal. I never buy anchovies, so I had no idea. My friend who was helping me put the salad together expected it to cost more. The olives were $10/pound, but they had a good selection of quality imported ones in the deli section. I got enough for the salad and it was only $2.50. They were quite delicious too! Bristol Farms up the street has great olives as well, but they are twice the price. There was no waiting at the checkout stand on a Sunday afternoon. The store is clean and parking is abundant. You probably won't find any ridiculous deals like at the bag-it-yourself places, but you can get great quality food at normal prices. read more

This is a really well kept grocery store. Well lit, yet not blindingly florescent and migraine inducing. Always clean and well stocked. Some of the best staff around. Consistently available, asking if you need help, always saying hello. I just wish stores would stop using our last names at the checkout! For those of us who have difficult last names that constantly get massacred or do not want the crazy-eyed leering guy in back of us to hear our unusual and easy to look up last name, this courtesy needs to be laid to rest. Oh, and the discount card gives great savings, but don't forget to bring it with you or they will ask your phone number and Mr. Scary behind you won't even have to do a google search to call you. read more
