This is a really well kept grocery store. Well lit, yet not blindingly florescent and migraine inducing. Always clean and well stocked. Some of the best staff around. Consistently available, asking if you need help, always saying hello. I just wish stores would stop using our last names at the checkout! For those of us who have difficult last names that constantly get massacred or do not want the crazy-eyed leering guy in back of us to hear our unusual and easy to look up last name, this courtesy needs to be laid to rest. Every time I come here, it always seems like the cashiers give preferential treatment when it comes to interacting with guests. When the lady in front of me checked out (older white lady) the cashier was friendly, greeted the guest, and wished her a nice night. When it was my turn, I got no greeting, and the lady handed me my receipt without saying a single word. Discrimination is shameful. read more

This is the worst experience ever, I work as a shopper in this Covid-19 situation, they limit paper products, flours, disinfecting wipes, it said that you can only get one per household, I get it. But when I finally found disinfecting wipes earlier today ( June 18 2020 ) , I got one for my customer, one for me, note this, they usually let you take it since its different household, but when I'm about to pay the wipes that for me, they didn't let me take that, the young Cashier said its only one per person, not per household, bummer! I live around pavilion super market, and I usually come here twice a week .All of the cashiers and supervisors r very nice except for one cashier named Rose. I had two encounters with her that has caused me to write this review. The bad attitude n cockiness that she brings is so negative . Rose does not care a single bit about customer service apparently. I feel upper management should have a serious talk or interview with her because I don't know if I'm the only one that has gotten so offended by her. I am seriously considering not coming back to Pavillion because of Rose. The bad attitude she brings is just not acceptable to anyone. Please have a talk to Rose and at least let her know that she is offending loyal customers like me. I do not want to be in a bad mood when she sees me or when I see her. I went to Trader Joes on Huntington Drive on Saturday and it was a mess. No order, people pushing and hoarding. I left and decided to go to Pavillions in South Pasadena. What a difference. Staff were constantly disinfecting the aisles, gave us hand wipes while we waited in line, had a lot of stock and guess what? People were not hoarding. It looked like folks were just doing their weekly shopping. 1 line that went around the store to pay but all registers were open and a staff member was directing people to the registers as they became available. Everyone very pleasant and although all the chicken was gone, they had some meet products, milk and eggs. No toilet paper but the atmosphere was much different than TJ's, Walmart and Costco. Worth paying extra in these difficult times to reduce the stress. read more

I had the most extraordinary experience at this Pavilions store today--and, unfortunately, it was not a positive one. The plan was simple: my companion and I wanted to buy a nice steak for dinner. Pavilions had a Snake River Farms American Wagyu "bavette" (i.e. flank steak) in the butcher's case with a sign saying it was $19.99 per pound. When I asked to buy one, the guy behind the counter proceeded to ring it up on the nearby terminal, only pause with a confused look on his face. After several minutes had last, he turned to us and said that he couldn't sell us the steak because "it wasn't in the system." He told us we would have to come back tomorrow (!) when the butcher was there. We were fairly astonished to be told that we were not going to be allowed to purchase an item that sitting in a display case and clearly labeled with a price. We walked out of the store, but the whole thing felt off, so I decided to go back and ask to talk to a manager. After a few minutes, a manager named Daniel arrived. I explained the situation to him and he said he would go investigate. After about ten minutes, Daniel returned and told us that the employee was correct: the item wasn't in the "system," so they couldn't sell it to us at the advertised price. He then went on to tell us that we could buy the steak, but only if we were willing to pay $32 per pound instead--a full $12 above the marked price. He was apologetic, but clearly didn't understand how problematic all of this was. We had by this time been in the store for nearly half an hour without being allowed to buy anything. We thanked him for his help and left. At this point, I think it's best to just quote from California Business and Professions Code: DIVISION 5. WEIGHTS AND MEASURES [12001 - 13800] ( Division 5 added by Stats. 1939, Ch. 43. ) CHAPTER 1. General Provisions [12001 - 12027] ( Chapter 1 added by Stats. 1939, Ch. 43. ) 12024.2. Disappointed. The other day, a customer like me was shopping the other day and told a Pavilion's employee, "Just remember where that money came from...it came from a white person." Yes, sadly that was said. Knowing the employee would not be able to defend themselves, I said something to the customer. I was held back by supervisor, and the customer was protected from me. I told the customer she was "disrespectful" and I called her a racist." The customer yelled back, "Stop being black." Still, the supervisor (a minority) chose to protect the customer and said he "could not do anything." I believe and told him, "he could tell her to take her patronage elsewhere." Yes, I yelled out expletives to this woman AFTER she was disrespectful and made disparaging remarks. Pavilion's should NOT tolerate this behavior. Period. I have been a loyal customer for the last 16 years, and am disappointed that they chose to support an ignorant woman. I will be making the choice to take my business to other markets in the surrounding area. PS. I wrote to corporate and crickets. I figure I may have better luck reaching out to more people on Yelp. UPDATE: This incident happened when? In August? I got a response from corporate in late September "looking into the incident." Never heard from again. I am unhappy about two things: 1) O organic brand - bought chicken tenders multiple times and every time the package has half tenders and half sliced breast to look like tenders. I've officially moved into Pasadena. Do I miss ghettro East LA/USC neighborhood? Maybe a little bit. I have to get used to the friendly staff here @ Pavilions. It's kind of eerie actually, to have all the staff look you straight in the eye, smile and ask if you need help with anything. It's also strange that they'd actually help you to you car. I politely declined the offer as this service was very foreign to me. Maybe next time I'll accept. I hate how I keep stumbling into this place every several months only to remember how I swore I'd never come back the last time I was here. I have a number of friends that live in this neck of the woods, and every now and then I'll want to hit a grocery store for some random item before heading back down the 110 to LA. And like Amy K I think, Pavilions will be better than Vons. I haven't been to the Vons across the street but can tell you that this Pavilions is a ghetto Vons in disguise. Back before they redid the place even the labels on the shelves said "Vons" on them. When they remodeled I thought, "oh, it must be like this temporarily until they finish the remodel". Wrong. The place looks a little nicer, but it is still a ghetto Vons masquerading as an upper middle-scale market. Next time I'll just go to Liborio. read more

I've been shopping at this Pavilions for years and it's always been one of my favorites, up until recently. Overall the store is clean, generally well stocked, and most of the employees are helpful and friendly, which is really quite surprising given what I've witnessed on several trips into this store over the last few years. The store manager (I think her name is Nicky if I remember correctly) is friendly and personable enough to customers, as I've interacted with her a few times, but I've also taken notice of how horrible she can be to her employees when she doesn't seem to think anyone is paying attention. On more than a few occasions I've seen her be short, condescending, or just downright cruel to the employees while berating them on the sales floor. I can only imagine what she must be like with them behind closed doors if she has gone to the lengths that she does where customers can see and hear her. Yesterday, I witnessed another incident where she kept yelling at a poor girl that she (the employee) "was trying to go over her head" and "why bother talking now"without letting the poor girl get a word in to defend herself, no matter how nicely she tried. The manager then just stormed off leaving the employee on the sales floor in tears and blatantly confused as to what she had done to offend her mighty highness. I still cannot get the look of shock and utter devastation on this poor girl's face out of my mind. This was just the most recent of many similar incidents I have witnessed involving this woman, and I decided I couldn't be silent about it any longer. Never in my life have I seen a manager speak and treat their employees the way this woman does. No matter how much I enjoy shopping here, I don't think I can continue to support a business that would allow their managers to treat employees this way. I am honestly shocked that they aren't facing a pile of law suits from disgruntled employees because of her and the hostile work environment she seems to have created for them. I had a few extra minutes before an appointment and some nasty reflux, so in search of an Odwalla soy shake or some other high-falutin' non-dairy beverage, I figured Pavilions would be a more likely source than the Vons across the street. I did find a small bottle of chocolate soy milk to drown the demons that live in my esophagus, but I found some other stuff, too, like the inflated prices on everything in the crackers/cookies aisle. Also, the clientele at 5.30 on a Wednesday is unimpressive in what perhaps is their stupidity. Slowly moving, stopping randomly, blocking aisles, taking forever in checkout lines. The parking lot was the same way, with cars and pedestrians aimlessly moving about. Altogether annoying; next time the demons act up, I'll try the Vons. Incidentally, the caps on the small bottles of Silk soy milk don't fit tightly enough, and the lip for drinking practically ensures spilling on yourself. read more

I prefer shopping at Pavilions over Von's because the produce always SEEMS more fresh. I could be imagining things, of course...but the groceries always look better. Maybe it's because less people come here? The hours are later than Von's which is convenient, and there's a Starbucks inside. Express lanes are located north of the checkout lanes and make for speedy purchases if you have 15 items or less. I finally snapped and had to call the manager of the store and voice my displeasure about the constant overcharging of items. It's happened to me numerous times and I'd like to warn everyone shopping there...make sure you always check your receipts. They used to be better, but service has gone downhill for about a year now. I'm not sure what happened. Now they routinely forget to fill parts of my prescriptions (and then I have to go through the trouble of having the doctor re-write the parts that didn't get filled), or claim they never received faxed prescriptions from the doctor. If you use the drive through, prepare to wait forever as they help every single walk in customer before they come to you. The staff has been increasingly rude and impatient. Today I called, was placed on hold for about 20 min only to be disconnected. When I called again, the staff member apologized saying that she was the only one there, but then as I was explaining what I needed, she cut me off saying that she couldn't help me because she had another live customer and a phone call waiting (and I am what??? a telemarketer???). I have used this pharmacy almost exclusively for at least 10 years, but I'm done. If they want to save money and never staff this pharmacy properly or hire rude and (presumably cheaper staff), that's fine, I'll just take my business elsewhere. I'm not coming back. read more

Pavilions has been hitting the mark. I like that I haven't been manhandled outside the entrance for donations lately, but recently their customer service has been off the charts. The bakery frequently runs out of a type of coffee cake I like, so the head bakery woman promises to have some ready for my subsequent visits, and her promise isn't an idle one. She writes down the order(s), the general time of my future visit(s) and each time I showed up, I'm handed a fresh cake; more than once it was still warm. Also, I like how they'll slice a whole loaf of bread or a baguette if you ask, as long as it doesn't have nuts. At this point, why bother with Orowheat or Wonder Bread when there's jalapeno rolls and/or onion rolls for fifty-nine cents each? Plus jalapeno bagels! They have the name brand items I enjoy/use consistently on sale, if I can't find something, a clerk volunteers to lead me to where I can find it, the cashiers have been really nice and they're open late. This place don't care about there customer. I came here to buy my lunch. And the lady of cashier had miss counted the change I gave. But after realizing her mistake and said ah oh. Then look at me and continued to short change me the cash she gave. Even it was only a 6 cents. I would have thought she would say sorry. And try to make efforts to correct her mistake. Which I would just told her to forget it. And went on my way. But she look at me and size me for how I would react and just went on and not admitting her fault of giving less amount to me. I was shopping here today for the first time and it will be the last. Went to the deli section and asked to buy fried chicken. The worker was extremely rude. He said in a very rude tone "Which fried chicken?" He then said he was out of the breast fried chicken so I asked if I could get a thigh instead and he said very unenthusiastically, "I guess." And then he proceeded to get the pieces that were dried out and smaller than the others. I witnessed him picking pieces up, putting them back, and then picking others that were small and drier or burnt. I still thanked him when he gave me the bag but he did not acknowledge me at all. He heard me. I will never go back to this store again. I read the Yelp reviews after my experience and wish I had read them before I decided to shop there. He shouldn't be working at the deli section if he has no idea about how customers should be treated. Extremely rude. Will never go back to this store. After work one day last week. I had to stop to get cat food or else my cats would kill me. Anyway I sttopped in at Pavilions cuz it seemed like it would be quick an easy I walked in I got the cat food I proceeded to the checkstand area as soon as I turned the corner there were only two lanes in operation with about 15 people in each line. It was taking forever so I turned to ask one of the baggers who was blowing up a balloon if they could open another lane and he laughed. and yelled at me and said this is all we've got lady people didn't show up today. So if you can't manage to open a couple more lanes then my days are done at Pavilions wbb won't be back thank you goodbye by the way it took 1/2 an hour to get out of there.
