After finding Diana's business online for mail trimming for our two long haired cats, I am really confused and disappointed in our former groomers at the salon in PetSmart. They continually claimed that they could not trim our girl Suki's nails because she was too aggressive. Instead, we had to wait until she was having procedures done at Banfield, their pet hospital, and they would cut her nails while she was under anesthesia. We took Suki and her brother Sasha to Diana and she did them both with no problem. She handled Suki easily with either my or my husband's assistance in getting her out of the carrier, and she even commented, "this is the difficult one??" We've been back many times now and each time we're in and out in minutes. Very reasonable cost too. I don't know about any of her other services (I wish she did dry hair cuts) but for regular nail trimmings, we now go every 5 weeks or so to prevent them from scratching our new hardwood floors and furniture, and we couldn't be happier. read more

Horrible experience!! We have two long-haired cats, and we left them for 2 hours. In that time she only did ONE cat! And not even well! Meanwhile, she traumatized the other cat so bad he pooped himself in the crate!! He snapped at me (which he has NEVER done!) when we went to go get him. I don't know what she did to my baby. Both the cats do not have front paws, so they should have been easy to handle. The cat they did groom was BARELY done. It's clear the just ran a comb through his hair and called it a day. Literal tuffs were clinging to him and I had to go over him a second time at home. I pulled off so much more hair that you'd never guess he just came from the groomer. WHAT DID THEY DO FOR THOSE 2 HOURS?! Also DOGS. DOGS EVERYWHERE. Dogs checking in ahead of us, dogs running around the big room while cats are crated up being terrorized. No wonder my sweet boy pooped himself!! DON'T DO IT. read more

As the other reviewer mentioned, I also cannot speak to her grooming skills because we didn't get that far and am so glad! I called to see about making an appt for my two fur babies because from the reviews, it sounded like she really cared for cats and that was important to me but when she finally called me back, she was horrid! When I explained what I was looking for and that one of my kitties was quite bushy and gets shaved (with summer coming, he's much more comfortable), she said absolutely not. And when I asked why she did not shave cats (thinking it might be harmful to them), she said, "I don't do ugly!" I was so shocked by her response, all I could say was, I don't think this would be a good fit and she rudely said, you're damn right! Wow - stay far away! read more

I can't tell you all about the actual grooming services because I did not set up an appointment. I was called by Diana after I left a voicemail inquiring about pricing. She was extremely rude. I greeted her with a "hi, how are you?" And she responded "what do you need" Is this how you speak to prospective clients? I I wanted to know about pricing on grooming for my kitten and her response was "well they don't need grooming" She did not bother to explain pricing, she did not bother to explain what she offered. Diana was terrific! I have an 18-year-old cat that had a terrible mat of hair, which I couldn't take care of, so I took him to Paw & Claw for the first time. Since Diana was booked like 10 weeks in advance, I was put on a waiting list, and she called me when there was a cancellation. She worked on my cat for about 30 minutes and completely combed it out. She didn't finish the nAils cause my cat who is the nicest and gentlest cat in the world freaked the fuck out at her clumsiness in handling him. Obviously never going back. My cat is an a**hole. He is lovable and sweet in the comforts of his home...but take him outside of it and he turns into a hissing, growling b*tch. He is also fat..and gets matted pretty easily. I have had groomers turn him away. I was about to give up until I saw a business card for Paw and Claw Cat Grooming at my Vet's office and the card said we specialize with hard to handle cats. I dropped off my cat expecting to get a phone call about a half hour later asking for him to be picked back up. Not the case :) I showed up a bit early to pick up my kitty and as I opened the door I heard his familiar screams and yowls. What I also heard which made me giggle was the groomer talking to him a soft soothing voice asking him if his sister picks on him at home and that is why he is being so difficult. Needless to say, my cat came back looking handsome. His fur was soft with no mats. It was about another six months before I had to make another appointment. I again dropped him off in the morning looking a bit disheveled and picked up a beautiful cat. Paw and Claw is about 15 miles from my house, so it is a bit of a trek for a groomer but Paw and Claw is definately worth it if you have hard to handle cat. She's trying to teach the customer about what their own cats probably need, especially when I've had my cats for 6+ years she's telling me what my cats do or don't need, and trust me at this point I know. Diana is the "Cat momma"! She's been doing this for over 35 years! She knows how to handle your Fur Baby! She doesnt shave cats, but she cuts the nails, combs out the mats bathes and drys them. All in All this takes about 2 hours. If you need an appointment, you need to call ASAP because she is booked at least two weeks ahead. For just nails you can come on in anytime from 4:00pm till close. I've been going to her for over 8 years. I wouldnt take my baby anywhere else! read more

I have a very old cat with associated health issues. Because he's such an old guy (19 years), he can't groom himself like a young cat would and his matted coat was causing him discomfort. Visited Diane at Paw & Claw and two hours later, my old buddy looked like he dropped ten years. His coat is soft, clean and mat free and I can tell he feels so much better. Diane clearly loves cats and she has a way with them. She understands the issues older cats face and I felt very comfortable leaving my best buddy in her care. She's a unique individual and runs her business on her terms (cash or check for payment and limited hours of operation). But she knows her stuff and does a superlative job for her clients. My cat was aging, unable to keep herself groomed as she always had. Her fur got matted despite my best efforts, and she was uncomfortable. I took her to Paw and Claw, left her for a few hours, and when I picked her up, she was immaculate, purring and very happy. Over the next several months, I took her back about three times, and she always seemed grateful. She would actually go and sit by the cat carrier, something she had always avoided before. This alone is enough to recommend Paw and Claw -- it was obvious to me that my cat looked forward to her visits there. The folks at Paw and Claw (Diana is my groomer) know cats, love cats and take excellent care of cats. I highly recommend their services to everyone whose cat needs a little assistance with their grooming. The place isn't fancy, no uniforms, no spa music -- but the care cannot be beat. NEVER AGAIN. Brought my cat in to get rid of some matting she had in her long hair. This lady literally just YANKED OUT the hair with a comb. I've never heard my cat scream so loud! The woman also weirdly JUMPED down our throats when we inquired about shaving. Ok lady, I get you're passionate about it, but we were just asking! Bringing my cat here taught me the lowest standard in caring and treatment there is out there for my baby to be groomed. On Wednesday I brought my Maine Coon cat in for another grooming. The owner is still quirky. They still accept checks and cash - no credit cards. But I have to give the owner a special credit, because my cat is a total asshole. When I went to pick him up, I saw her go to take him out of the cage. He tried his damndest to scratch and bite her. It took about 4 tries, but she was finally able to get past his defences and bundle him into the carrier. And, when I got him home, he was totally gorgeous. His coat was like the finest silk. And he had a little bow tie decoration on the top of his head, which lasted for about 5 minutes at home. But it was a cute five minutes. He is a very challenging customer, and she did a great job on him. I'm just grateful that she's not charging me combat pay. And, one very unusual thing; I saw a dog being groomed when I picked up my cat. So they have apparently branched out from the feline kingdom to the canine kingdom. Don't know if I like that so much. I prefer taking the monster cat to places where they are no dogs. read more

Diane is amaaaazing! My cat, Nala, has long hair and neither of us have gotten quite used to brushing. Needless to say, she gets a lot of matting after a few months. Unfortunately, Nala is litterally a scaredy cat and screams so loudly when I take her out that I swear people stare from a half block away. So I started coming to Diane based on a recommendation from my friend, who also had a pesky kitty with long hair that doesn't like to get brushed. I live on the border of Lakeview and Lincoln Park which is a bit of a drive, but trust me, it really is worth it. Nala always returns looking beautiful! It's supposedly just for cats, but I've heard a dog both times I've gone. Though, not a big deal. Anyway, last Saturday, Nala had her second appointment. For some reason, it took me a really long time to get Nala into her cat carrier. In the end, it took two people and a dismantled cat carrier. Once outside, however, my car broke down. Thank god my parents were visiting that weekend and had their car. At this point, as you can imagine, I was late. I called Diane to tell her I was having trouble and she told me I could still come. On the way there I got into traffic and all in all, I finally made it to Paw and Claw about 1.5 hours after my scheduled appointment. And Diane *still* took Nala! What a sweet, sweet lady! :) She always gives me great advice and the price isn't that unreasonable. Plus, Nala looks great and feels like a princess! So happy! read more

Normally, I would not be the kind of person to take my cat to the groomer, but one of ours is grouchy (to say the least) about being brushed on her belly and gets numerous mats when shedding season starts...and when she comes home, she struts about like a queen with her new coif. My elderly cat and the owner had a "disagreement". This caused the owner to chase my cat around and scare her so bad she peed. This is what the owner tells me. I had to come in to get a cone around her head. I felt like a jerk for leaving her behind but she was mid-groom and it just needed to be done. This was my first time ever taking any cat to any groomer, but Diane came highly recommended by my vet and the other reviews here convinced me. I've had my DLH cat Thisbe for 8 years and she's always looked like Oscar the Grouch on a bad hair day (was rescued from a hoarder situation and I figured that's just how she was). She's cranky and easily stressed and I've tried to keep her brushed but after admitting defeat to some huge mats on her tummy and butt, I nervously dropped her off for an afternoon appointment. I thought my cat was going to have a stroke when I handed her over, but Diane was cheerful and unfazed and assured me over the yowling that Thisbe would be fine. When we got home and I got her out of her carrier I was SHOCKED...this is like a totally different cat! Her coat is smooth and silky and beautiful. She looks like a cat people actually want to pet. She seems much happier too and has been more social this week. I've been converted into a cat grooming believer. Also...I was SURE the mats would have to be shaved but somehow Diane got them out by clipping and degreasing and brushing and since my cat wants me to pet her more than ever, I know that means it was done without yanking or hurting her...a miraculous mystery if you ask me. Before my Kitty-Cats where groomed and cleaned by Paw and Claw; I have two short hair cats. Their Cat hair was every where and stuck to my hands every time I petted them. The wash and brush out was definitely worth the price to have them cleaned and groomed; they both no longer shed all over the furniture and my hands. Panda came here with knots so deep in his fur and his butt area needing a good bath. I was nervous since this was his first time at a groomer and he's 11 years old. He came home so clean and happy. I took my cat here for the first time for dematting and a nail trim. I am so happy with my experience. The appointment was super quick (not even 10 minutes), and I paid just under $20! Diana is great with cats and she seems to have a lot of knowledge about them. My cat wasn't scared at all; he was extremely calm in her arms while she worked on him. Love this place! There are very few cat groomers in Chicago and I am thankful for Paw & Claw. It is a hike for me to get to but worth it bc the owner really knows what she is doing and she is great to chat with. By way of caveat, my 10-year-old cat tends to be on the cranky side when she's in a new environment. However, the woman who groomed my cat (kind as she was) didn't help things by hoisting her onto her shoulder and spanking her hindside as if she was a toddler while my cat hissed. When I picked her up (4.5 hours later, at their request), my cat was still hissing, and didn't stop until I put her carrier on the floor and out of sight from the woman who had groomed her. In fact, the groomer noted she had never calmed down, and bemoaned all "the troublemakers" she had had to put up with that day. I'm sure they bathed her, but her fur didn't seem any cleaner than before. However, I'm leaving two stars because admittedly, the groomer did an excellent job rounding out her nails and brushing out her fur. Both my cat and I left stressed out, with me wondering what exactly had gone on that day. I really wanted this place to work out (cat only groomers are a rare find). Needless to say, it just didn't. read more

We have two cats- one that just freezes and lets you do anything to him and the other bites you if you look at her wrong. We love them both equally. Anyway, the more beautiful, but angrier cat doesn't let us brush her and she's a full lady so she gets some mats on her back. We now take both of our cats to get groomed about 4 times a year now and it's really the best money we've ever spent. We found Paw & Claw because they specialize in hard to handle cats. Diane puts a little harness and e-collar on the angry beauty and works her magic. Granted, we do pay extra is "pesty" fees, but for how beautiful she comes back it's definitely worth it. I think if we brought them anywhere commercial like a Petsmart they would call us to pick up our difficult cat and then shame us- but Diane can handle anything and doesn't make us feel bad about it. She just gets cats. Definitely worth every dime & the extra trek to the northside. read more

Wow, what a first impression! My vet highly recommended Paw & Claw. We have a long hair mix who's undercoat mats up severely every winter, no matter how hard we try to keep her groomed. I called to make an appointment and when I said we'd like to have her hair cut, the woman immediately got a horrific attitude and practically yelled at me saying she DOES NOT shave cats because it's ugly--call me crazy, but that was totally unnecessary. I tried to explain that my cat is severely matted and she rudely said she'd try to demat it but went on again to state that she WOULD NOT shave a cat, blah, blah, blah...... I don't like a shaved cat either, but I'd rather have her look goofy for a little while than to be in pain while some old freak yanks and pulls on her. Needless to say, we're going back to Bark Bark Club. They did a great job last year. read more
