I was waiting to post a review to give the owner time to respond to my phone calls and emails-- they have yet to respond at all. As you can see from the photos below, my goldendoodle received a horrible haircut and sustained injury at the Paw Spa. I had scheduled my goldendoodle to get groomed this past week with the owner. However, they switched to a different groomer during the service without my approval. I explained exactly what I expected especially with the cut of the front legs (looks like a smaller blade was used and resulted in a deeper uneven groom on the back of front legs). I was assured by owner that it would not happen. I received my dog back with the exact issue I was told wouldn't happen. Further, other issues also arose from the groom. My dog's back legs are not groomed all the way down and her dewclaws were not cut at all. In addition, it looks like my dog sustained injury to her paw as the clippers were used on her paw pad and shaved it off partially. I have sent emails including the pictures I took below so that the owner can see the grooming service I received which is not up to par and potentially dangerous. I also called Paw Spa the following morning and spoke with the groomer (assistant manager "T") that cut my dog because owner was unable to speak with me during this time. I was rudely talked down to and was not given any solutions by the groomer/assistant manager but was told that it was the genetics of my dog and the blade that was at fault.Please note, my dog has been groomed with the same size blade here and at different groomers and it has never turned out like this. Then she proceeded to cut me off and tell me I am incorrect because she had 11 years of experience grooming dogs. However, it is clear from the images below that further groomer training is needed. If they cannot properly groom mixed breed dogs (I.e. goldendoodles) then this should be advertised on their website. Later that same day I called back and I spoke with a groomer (Jamal) who took down my information and said that the owner would call in a few hours. I have not been contacted via phone call or email. Additionally, I met with my vet about the deeply shaved paw pad and the vet said that the clippers were too close and shaved it off. There has been no accountability and I have not received any resolution from the Paw Spa to solve this issue. I would like a full refund to rectify this issue because I paid for a service that I did not receive. Also, my dog had to suffer an injury. Please see photos below. This is a tough review to write because I've been a small business supporter as long as I can remember, before it was a cognizant trend. The reason I must write is because NO PUP should have to suffer like this. I requested a vet recommended hygiene area hair trim, puppy bangs trim, nail file and ear cleaning. I was told the groom would take 3 or so hours. I got a call in 75 minutes saying she was ready. I was also casually informed during this call that Sansa "had developed a limp". The groomer (Cari) wasn't sure why/how/when that had happened but insisted that I should take her to her vet if it didn't subside by the morning. She suggested that some pups get traumatized and limp around for a few hours. When I picked her up I noted that Sansa smelled clean and had been washed and blow dried but only her bangs had been trimmed, not her nether parts as was requested (and paid for). The next day, I took her to the emergency vet center. They took x-rays and found that Sansa's tibia had been broken and her patella in the same leg was displaced. They recommended immediate surgery without which Sansa will not have a normal growth pattern and might always be hopping on three legs. My 5-month-old puppy now has several months of hard recovery ahead of her. She's in a cast and won't be able to play or even walk outside for another 4 weeks. Gabrielle, the owner of the Salon was initially very empathetic after she read my earlier review on Yelp. She called the surgery center and footed the bill for Sansa's surgery, $4730. She also said that she would install cameras in every room to prevent further injury. That being said, she still claims that her employees did nothing wrong, and that "sometimes flukes really do happen." Sansa's surgeon believes that she either fell from a tall height, or had her leg tugged roughly. Even if that were a "fluke," the right thing to do would have been for them to immediately take Sansa to the vet, or, at the very least, tell me how she'd been injured. It's surprising that a trained groomer didn't recognize a severe injury, and instead dismissed it as just a "limp." Even after we told Gabrielle what the vet said, she said that she was "giving [the employee] the benefit of the doubt." In other words, she's perfectly fine employing a groomer who broke a puppy's leg and didn't tell anyone about it. So, even though Gabrielle has expressed sympathy and helped us pay for Sansa's injuries, I cannot recommend this business. Their standards for groomers are dangerously low, and their practices have caused my puppy a long-term, potentially permanent injury. read more

$100 for a medium bath, zero trim, is absolutely INSANE. Didn't even give a bandana which you think for that much they could afford, and how many dogs they cram into the place every day. She looks like she was literally given a bath and then put in one of their crates without water to air dry. Total frizzy hair. We came here for Diamond who was so sweet to our very anxious dog but they apparently they cannot keep any of the same staff. This time they were eating lunch while the dogs just sat tied up shaking. Paw Spa does a good job in keeping my fur baby groomed. The problem I have with their services is pricing. I have a six month old 48lb golden doodle who receives basic grooming services. In two months the cost for service went from $136 to $200 because the staff classified him as a extra large dog. So a dog that weighs more than 50 lbs or 100lbs is an extra extra large dog? I paid for the service to avoid confrontation but I won't be using this company again. Please do better with pricing for our fur babies. read more

I absolutely adore this place. My Winston (an 8.5 lb Yorkie, now 11-year-old) is everything to me. Right before the pandemic, I had a horrifying experience at his previous groomer and I couldn't return there. One of my first activities in those early days was taking him here in June 2020. They were so safe - masks, wiped down, distancing. Yet they did a terrific job - and they gave him a bow and then put him in their play area by the window. Also - it was his best grooming appointment ever. He looked so cute! I went again and again until this past summer when I moved away. Huge praise for Keona and Gabriella, his favored groomers. While Winston has never been a fan of groomers, he was as well behaved as possible for him here. He also loved the praise! I've promised that we'll return when we are in the area. read more

The quick was cut/exposed on all 20 of my dog's nails. Cutting the quick is extremely painful for dogs given it is living tissue. An exposed quick can also lead to severe bone infections. When I picked up my dog, the male groomer told me that my dog was yelping and shaking during the grooming of his feet. I contacted my veterinarian and she advised to check the dogs paws for cuts and the nails for exposed quicks. Sure enough, all of his nails were cut extremely short. I called the owner, and provided her with photos via text. She was receptive to my concerns, but defended the male groomer and did not offer an apology. If you plan to take your dog here, consider explicitly asking for no nail trimming. I asked for a bathing and hair cut for my dog and to my surprise his nails were all cut when I arrived to pick him up. read more

Had the best experience at Paw Spa today! My long haired cat hadn't been groomed in months so I needed a lion cut done ASAP and Carrie (apologize if I'm misspelling) did an amazing job! My cat has been scratched by clippers in the past so I was worried about going to a new groomer but there isn't a single uneven spot on him now that he's returned home. I was also updated regularly on his progress and received a text 30 minutes before he was ready for pickup which was extremely helpful for planning out my day. Absolutely the worst! Gave me an estimate of 3 hours when I dropped my puppy off, I emphasized that it was his first time and I didn't want him to stay long. They were dismissive saying that I could take him back if I wasn't comfortable.....so much for me bringing him back the second time (the first time I did take him back, coz I made an error while booking his appointment online). They said they would call once he was ready. I promptly showed up after 3 hours and mentioned that I did not get call/text, they charged my credit card and went back to get my puppy. I should have known then that they are not compassionate or considerate folks. They were definitely not apologetic. Kept my puppy for over 5 hours eventhough we made an appointment in person. As I left the place the owner calls me and said that I brought bad energy coz I was upset and slammed the door (for which I apologized)...I wonder why? What about ruining your customer's energy? TERRIBLE service. I took my 1 year old golden-doodle for a bath and haircut last week, and upon arrival, I informed the technician that my dog has crate anxiety and he can't be placed in it. The person told me that he is in good hands, and will call me once done. Paw Spa called me within 2 hours; informed me that they put my dog in a crate because they are a small grooming salon and that's the only option post the bath while other dogs are waiting. I explained that I informed you that my dog has crate anxiety and you totally ignored it. They asked me to pick up my dog, and that he only got a bath, and not a cut. I was charged $125 for a shitty bath, and awful customer service. BTW, they asked me to drug my dog next time he comes to the spa, so it's easier for them to handle him. UNACCEPTABLE. I don't recommend this place to anyone who is a pet owner. read more

We have had three grooms with Diamond and she has done a consistently wonderful job with our wheaten terrier. She comes home smelling fresh and looking cute and doesn't act traumatized the way she sometimes does with other groomers. The front desk communicates well, giving me an estimated time for pick up, and following up with a text when the service is finished. Their online scheduling system has so far been glitch-free and makes things super convenient. Gabriella did an excellent job grooming our little Cocoa! We are so delighted with how well his cut turned out. The salon was welcoming and beautifully decorated, and the price for a full grooming service was extremely fair. Most importantly, I can't say enough about how great Gabriella and Molly (I believe that was her name - I'm sorry!) were with our puppy. This is only his second time being groomed and the first time we've dropped him off somewhere (rather than in-home grooming). I was worried about how he'd react being away from us, but when I went to pick him up he was his usual bundle of excitement and seemed so happy to hang out with everyone. I have been taking my mini goldendoodle Gulliver here for almost a year (since his first puppy cut) and they always do a wonderful job! For new clients, please note that cat nail trims must be provided to existing clients and you need to do a bath (which includes nail trim) per Gabrielle's policy. This is to ensure the groomer can gauge the cat's comfort level and that enough time is allotted. Still, I think I am just going to take her to the vet. Namely, because she's a bit difficult lol and a bath might be too stressful for her the first go round. Figure I'll save the staff the experience of dodging kitty paws because she is quick with the smiggety paps. --------------- Didn't have the (seemingly) unfortunate experience to take my kitten here based on all the reviews listing maltreatment of their pet. Just wanted a nail trim as a new client. I usually try to do something simple to gauge work done. On their website, it asks for a lot of information including credit card details to book which I provided. The appointment was declined, for reasons that one has to make the effort to call to find out. If you have clients fill out a bunch of information and/or provide credit card details up front, it should be on the salon to provide a reason as to why an appointment is declined when they decline the appointment. Not make the client do even more work after completing a profile, scanning vaccination things, etc. Anyway, after coming here and reading the reviews of all those that have had a bad experience -- and not just with customer service but the amount of serious injuries to pets -- I think I dodged a bullet. Horrible experience - what a rip off! I called yesterday to make an appointment for my dog - this is our first time at Paw Spa. Was told it would take 3-4 hours so today when I dropped him off, I wanted to verify it would take no more than 4 hours. They refused to commit to that and sent out a person I assume is the manager. She immediately copped attitude with me saying "we're not robots" and "we're very busy because it's the holidays". I said I don't think you're robots but I was told 3-4 hours and I need to pick him up in no more than 4 hours. She said I could either leave him and take my chances or take him so I said I would take him. At this point she said they would be charging me a 50% cancellation fee. I asked how they could charge this when they told me 3-4 hours and can't live up to that. She repeated "we're not robots" and then asked if I was going to leave him. I said no because I don't like they way you are talking to me. And they just charged me a cancellation fee that is actually more than 50% of what I was quoted for his haircut and bath! Update- so it was the owner who spoke to me that way! Good luck if you bring your pet here and have any kind of problem. My dog weighs 45 pounds and that is a medium according to your own website! And why would I leave him there when you were speaking so aggressively to me. What I don't get is how I'm the one paying the price when you're the one who couldn't live up to the quote given. read more

As a small business owner myself in Alexandria, it takes a lot for me to write a negative review for another business. The issue is with their customer service, lack of client appreciation, and failure to clearly notify clients of miscellaneous fees that may occur. I also feel their pricing is on the high end. I was working when they texted that our 6 lb dog was ready for pick up and didn't see the text until 1.5 hours after they texted. When I replied I was on my way, I received a text stating that I now incurred a $40 day care fee on top of the grooming and matting fee, which is in the "terms of agreement" when booking (i.e. the fine print). The "$40 day care fee for late pick up" warning was NOT in their confirmation email, text reminder, nor did the front desk staff notify me of this potential fee or remind me of the pickup window. As a second-visit client, I texted the owner the next day and explained that I wasn't aware of this fee and asked if the fee could be waived as a one-time courtesy, to which she replied firmly NO and that the fee was listed "IN BOLD." She then continued a rude back and forth exchange, in which she told me to do a better job checking my text messages in a timely manner, showing a clear lack of concern for client retention or appreciation. We paid $178 total for grooming, alleged matting, plus a day care fee that we had no idea about for a 6 lb dog. read more

Took my dogs in for just a nail trim (first time coming here & definitely the last) and the groomer literally dragged both my Dane mix and my pit mix across the salon. I'm sorry but that's not how you treat any dog regardless of them being in a new place and not wanting to follow a stranger. Neither of my dogs were fans of this place and stressed more during the nails trims than anything. The groomer was definitely not experienced cause if she was, she would've tried something different during the nail trims to calm both of them. $50 was definitely over priced for two dogs to get nail trims even with the fact I declined having their paw pads shaved down. And when I was paying, the groomer was staring over my shoulder to see if she got a tip. Update: 6/8/2022 Owner never contacted me. I didn't assist the piss poor groomer who DRAGGED BOTH MY DOGS! Don't waste your money at this dump of a "grooming salon" and go to a real groomer. They saw a REAL groomer for years prior to coming to this place as it was getting hard for me to do their nails while my fiancé was out of town and I'm pregnant. It didn't feel chaotic like many grooming facilities - everything was organized and orderly. The owner's (Gabriella) attitude is disappointing, she needs to check herself; if you don't know how to talk to people then I would advise you to not run a business. I was not happy with the service, mainly because she cut my golden doodle's fur down to the bone. Yes, I understand that my dog had matting and there was no choice but to shave him low, but not extremely low to the point he is exposed and showing redness. My dog was not matted everywhere, I truly believe she could of kept some fur on my 1 year old dood. I will be making note about this situation as much possible because that was uncalled for. Anyway, it took close to 5 hours for her to finish my dog; I will take into consideration that she was backed up, but that is still excessive. Once I was contacted to pick up my dog, I was given a price that was not discussed. I ended up paying the price because I was irritated at that point, but once i paid it, I realized that I needed to speak on that because the intial price was discussed as $160, but yet I paid $253!!! Gabriella states that it was a mistake and that she'll refund me the $253 and charge me the $160. I truly believe that wasn't a mistake and she KNEW what she was trying to do. So, after the service was completed, the shop sends an automatic text about how was the service on the scale of 1-5, I responded back with "0". Gabriella then turns back around and says "LOL praying for (insert my dog's name). After that, I said "since you have so much to laugh about, how about you give me a call", and so she did. With a conversation like that, that already showed me that her attitude is piss poor and she needs help. But nonetheless, my dog will not be going back anymore due to the OWNER's attitude. This was my dog's second time getting a haircut. My dog is only 1 years old; I am still learning when it comes to grooming etiquette; having an experience like that makes me nervous to get his haircut in the future; his fur is too low and he keeps scratching at himself. It's unfortunate and I will be making note of this and I wouldn't recommend for doodle parents. Of course the owner will try to save face and say that I "cussed" her out to make herself look good. I don't even use profanity. It's unfortunate that Gabriella(owner ) has to lie to save herself, especially when she made a comment on the phone to me about not "bucking" and "acting lady like". sounds like she is the one that needs to act lady like. She asked what I wanted and I explained that I wanted a normal schnauzer skirt and face (schnauzers are known for their bushy eyebrows and beard) and that I did not want her to cut my dogs eye lashes. I was told that it would be about 3 hours. Roughly 4.5 hours later I received a text stating that they were running late and would be another 30-45 minutes (not a problem, I get it). Thirty minutes later I received another text saying that she's ready. I went to pick her up but when I got there they said they needed another 30 minutes. I get dinner down the block assuming I would get another text when they were done ... not this time. After not hearing anything for 45 minutes I go back (at this point they've had my dog for 6 hours). Through the window I can see that they have cut my dogs beard and eye brows off completely. The groomer asked me how I like it, and I replied "absolutely not". She gave me some excuse that she couldn't in good conscience allow my dog to leave with a stained beard (she licks her bad toe and will always have a stained beard). Her previous groomer would call us before having to do something drastic or even trim her shorter than we wanted. I have no clue as to why they shaved off her eye brows. My only two guesses are someone made a slip up with the clippers and had to even it out or they didn't know what a schnauzer looks like. My dog has NEVER had her eyebrows shaved and has only had her beard cut off one time- after a month long camping trip. If they didn't know what a schnauzer cut was, or have the people capable, they should have said so when we made the booking or when I dropped her off. Pricing was very expensive so I assumed the service and knowledge was there. Schnauzer cuts are basic styling and can not believe that a groomer would make a drastic decision, that directly goes against what was asked for. and not even notify the owners. If I could leave less than 1 star I would. When I picked up my dog his back paw was bloody from how badly they cut down to the quick of the nail. Other than that upon first appearance he looked like he had an adequate bath. Upon getting my dog in the car I noticed how excessively he was shedding. He does shed after a bath but if he is brushed after, the shedding is minimal. After I got my dog home, I spent an hour cleaning his bloody paw and brushing him. I was able to get an entire puppy's worth of hair off of him which tells me that there was no brushing that happened as advertised as part of the bath service. Not only the one paw was bloody but TWO nails were cut so short it caused my dog to bleed and he only has 3 paws!!! After getting the bleeding to finally stop my dogs quality of life was affected because he had to be locked in the bathroom so he wouldn't bleed on the white carpet. Unfortunately after leaving him there for 5 hours his paw began to bleed again uncontrollably when I took him outside for a quick walk to relieve himself. I will now have to take a day off of work to take him on walks and control his bleeding after. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. The establishment had pet hair all over the floor and I'm now concerned about infection to my dogs two wounds he received here because of the lack of cleanliness. The cherry on the top is that the price is double than what I've ever paid for a top notch bath for my dog that doesn't even need his hair to be trimmed. $150 for a basic bath, no brushing as advertised, two wounds, and a missed day of work misses the mark for me. I brought my boy here for his first time and I was so nervous to leave him cause I knew he's still in his puppy habits like biting and anxiety of a new place but jordyn reassured me that everything was going to be fine and that it'll take time to get use to the groomers and in the end result man was it amazing!!! My boy came out looking so handsome! I got the full service and He looked so happy and smelled so clean! Jordyn gave me a step by step process of what they do and how my boy reacted to each step that it calmed me down knowing he was a good boy with a bit of accidents but he told me it's normal!
