We adopted a cat recently for my daughter for her 15th birthday. Filled out the application for a female kitten and I emailed asking to see a cat. I was told it was fostered at Pet Supplies Plus. We went to the pet store excited to adopt a female kitten. We were told she was 5 months and spayed. We took her home and she was covered in dander, nails desperately needed cut and smelled. She also had goopy eyes and sneezing. Took her to the groomer and was told to ask the vet if she was recently spayed. Took her to the vet and she ended up being a male and needing antibiotics. All of our records from the adoption agency were for a female that was spayed and microchip is for a female. Called the vet that performed the surgery and they agreed she was a he and surgery was not done recently. Reached out to the agency and they first blamed me for his poor hygiene and said it was indeed a girl based on their paperwork. I reached out again asking for the correct records for surgery and vaccines and then the agency blamed the vet that did the surgery for the mixup and took zero accountability, no fix in a solution or refund besides returning him. I have a wonderful male cat now with no idea on his age, his medical records, or a proper microchip. The agency was recommended by a relative who also ended up with a male kitten that was told to be female, but he was too young to be fixed. The agency told me they do not adopt out kittens that are not fixed, so yet another lie. Very disappointed in this entire ordeal and do not recommend them at all. read more

They don't respond to inquiries either way. No way to call. I inquired about a dog multiple times that is still available. It was taken off the site for an event then out back up the day after. Unprofessional, unresponsive and it seems to be coon practice. They should be banned from posting elsewhere and looked into in my opinion. read more

Hello, very dear friends of mine have tried, unsuccessfully, to adopt 3 different puppies...all 3 have been turned down and I am surmising the reason why. I believe this could be discriminatory and I'm sure this will get out to the public eventually. I told them to use me and my husband as references due to the fact that I love these two people and also know how much they love their current puppy and previous dogs prior to Louie. I love these guys as if they were my own children! As their reference and good friends, you couldn't find a better home for these homeless adorable puppies. I'm sure they will find a rescue puppy elsewhere from a good organization. read more

Adopted a dog from this facility after two visits with them. He was everything I was looking for. Loved the volunteer and the foster mom he had. They neutered him and made certain all his shots were up to date prior to his adoption. read more

This organization does not abide by their policies and is not interested in the best placement of the pet. You can apply for a pet and be the first person to apply and them skip over you for someone they feel is "more qualified" rather than actually getting to know the home and family the pet is being placed with. My family has volunteered with numerous animal organizations and done fundraisers for local shelters to keep them up and running but this organization denied my family member a pet after they spoke to an assistant at the new vet clinic we started to go to who was unfamiliar with us and our pets. This organization missed a loving home for what appeared to be an adorable dog. Before I went here for a pet, I would look elsewhere to someone who values your time and money. read more

Saying it's not about the money yet they are asking a $100 adoption fee for a 10 year old Blue Point Siamese. So it's not about the "pure bred" right? Because what confuses me is the the grey tabby, in the crate right above the Siamese, who is also spayed and up to date on vaccines only has a $60 adoption fee and she's about 3 years old. A 10 year old cat should be placed in a loving home with minimal fees as no one knows how long she's going to be on this earth. A cat with all 4 declawed was more than a cat same age/gender as a cat with just 2 declawed which was more than a cat not declawed. Now we all know the rescue did not dewclaw these cats! And declawed cats are normally the ones to have behavioral issues. Think twice about any rescue that places based on these parameters. Any animal should be placed based by their personality and temperament into a home. You wouldn't place a sight hound into a home that wants a lazy dog that lays around all day! read more

Put in an application for for a puppy they had. Waited to 2 weeks to never hear from them and looked on their site to see that the puppy was adopted. I also let them know that I would be interested in 2 other puppies they had also to never hear from them. I feel that if you are interested in any of their animals they should at least acknowledge that. They tell you to email them if you have any questions and you never get a response. I see now why people have told me not to go through any rescue sites. I treat my animals like my children but they would never know that because they don't even acknowledge your request. I would not recommend this rescue to anyone. read more

Be VERY wary of this agency. We adopted a dog for my mother from them, who the foster woman told us was "low energy and easy to walk". As my mother is older we thought this sounded like a great fit. However, when she got the dog, he was the complete opposite. On top of that, he had a broken tooth, bad dental infection, and a broken paw which should have been caught on his intake. They never mentioned anything about these issues, not that this would have necessarily deterred us from adopting him. But, it means they either 1) didn't bother to look at the dog upon receiving him and let him be in pain the whole time they had him or 2) knew he was in pain/injured and allowed him to remain as such until they could adopt him. My mother ended up spending ~$1,000 to get thwe dog treated. After few days, she ended up having to return him, as he as very high energy and not at all good at walking (pulled, attacked other dogs he saw) and we became very concerned he would cause my mom to fall and be injured. When we returned him they were completely unapologetic and the foster simply said "well I managed to walk him". I feel that they did not properly treat the dog while it was in their care and knew they were lying about the dog just to get rid of him. It's a shame, he was a good dog overall, and he should have been placed in a home where someone could handle him. I honestly would never consider adopting from them again, and I worry the animals in their care are not being properly assessed health wise and being neglected. read more

After losing my childhood dog we went to Petfinder to find our next rescue. I found a dog named "Bandit" at a rescue in Akron. I suggested my mom go check him out. She took a look at another "Bandit", also at a rescue in Akron. We ended up going to see him at Paws & Prayers and adopted him on the spot! I was a little shocked to meet him, however, as he wasn't the beagle I initially expected. That's when we realized we looked at different dogs. Three years later Bandit continues to bring a lot of joy to our life and we're thrilled Paws & Prayers was available as a rescue organization to save Bandit and bring him into our lives. We continue to joke that we adopted the "wrong" Bandit but he has been the right one in our family for a few years and many years to come. read more

I have 2 dogs adopted from this organization. They are the best dogs and we adopted them the very day we went to see them. I took off one star because after filling out the application for the last dog, no one got back to us (even though they confirmed the app). So after 3 weeks we had to call them again. read more

While looking for a puppy for our home, we found a person who was owner to a dog mothering three puppies. When we asked about taking one of the pups when weened (at that time they were only 2 weeks old), we were asked if we could take the mother dog and her litter as the owner felt the pups were being neglected by the mother dog. This is when we called in the help of a Paws and Prayers volunteer. At first, the volunteer was willing to take the mother dog and the pups, but could not pick them up herself, so I did that for her. Once the dog family was at my home, suddenly the volunteer had no room to care for the dogs, and asked me to hold them for a few days. I agreed, reluctantly, because I already own an adult dog and have no room to care for a new dog family - I was only looking for a puppy, one that wasn't scheduled to arrive for at least another 6 weeks. The few days passed, and the volunteer still couldn't take the dog family although she had promised to do so previously. I had to finally come to a conclusion that I felt was best, and that was to make sure this dog family had proper care via the local Human Society. I told the volunteer that I would have to give the whole dog family over to the H.S., and suddenly the volunteer was at my house to get the dogs. I released them to her, assured I would get the puppy I wanted when dogs were weened. Here we are, 4 weeks later. I have been denied the puppy I wanted because I had to make the choice of giving the dog family to the Humane Society, a proper choice because I could not care for them all at my house. I am being punished for doing all that I could, for rescuing dogs that were originally in potential harm because of their former living situation. The volunteer herself has assumed that because I had no choice, as she left me no choice, I am an unfit dog parent and will not even speak to me to discuss the matter. I have come to find the volunteers of Paws and Prayers are a vigilante sort of group, who will base their standards on the most ridiculous circumstances and their word is law, no matter how in the right you are. Our potential family member was stolen from us by a Paws and Prayers volunteer. I would never recommend them for any sort of support. There are other shelters for animals in need out there, call them first. read more

I applaud what Paws and Prayers is doing but they need to have a better policy in place when re-homing dogs. When I went to look at the dog I wanted to adopt I did not know that the family getting rid of her would be there. The Mom and three year old little girl were the first people I encountered with the dog I ended up adopting. I did not know this would be the case. When the shelter person arrived she let me know these were the people getting rid of the dog. When they were leaving the little girl was screaming that she wanted her dog, while the Mom was telling her the dog was going on vacation. This was a traumatic experience for everyone. read more

I give the animals 5 stars because all animals deserve to be loved and have homes... However, my latest experience has been absolutely terrible and right now I am fuming!! We recently adopted a cat that my 12 year old picked out. She was very shy but we were assured that after a couple weeks, she warms up. Mind you the return time for an animal is two weeks. We had her a month. In that month, she hid the entire time. We put her in my son's room where she could adapt and be away from the other animals and she would hide in his closet, under his bed or on his top bunk. To get her we'd have to pry her out of her hiding spot and then we'd hold her and pet her to try to make her feel safe. We even introduced our other cats hoping she'd see them and want to socialize... Nope! The final straw was when she began pooping and peeing on both his top bunk and his bottom trundle bed. We moved her to the basement where the other cats have their food and litter boxes, cat trees and cat doors to come and go upstairs as they please. She still hid. We had to search the entire house every night to find her so that we could be sure she was eating. When I contacted Paws and prayers they said I could bring her back and look at some of the other cats they had to find one that would work out better for us. We picked two... And instead of doing an even swap and half price for the second, they want us to pay again plus some. How is it our fault that we were mislead on the first cat's demeanor?! We tried everything and there was no improvement!! This isn't the first time I've heard that they lie about their animals behaviors just to get money. The animals should come first and putting an animal in a home that isn't a right fit for their temperament is unhealthy for both the animal and the family looking for their furever friend!! read more

Awesome group with goals, achievements and great team work of the many selfless volunteers. The mission of rescue, rehabilitate and re-home unwanted dogs and cats along with restoring dignity, trust and quality of life for neglected, abused and homeless dogs and cats can be very hard and very rewarding, it's not for everyone but all the volunteers that help Paws and Prayers are special, dedicated and do it for all the lives that are saved. read more
