Like so many of us, the loss of a loved one is devastating, especially when we think we have a few more years of joy left with our friends. We've all found ourselves having to do the unthinkable, and in our minds, do that in the most humane way possible. Sometimes that may mean having to do that in the veterinarian's office, or even more humanely, in our homes. Last week we were given heartbreaking news that our beautiful cat was failing rapidly. Our vet, Dr. Randall of Arrowhead Ranch, referred us to Dr. Monica Brown and Paws At Peace. No business name is more appropriate, nor a more kind and compassionate person suited for the task at hand than Dr. Brown. We were bereft at the decision, and Dr. Randall reassured us it was the right decision. Dr. Brown gave us all the time time we needed to say goodbye, explained thoroughly the process, and so very softly allowed our loved one, Romy, to relax and pass away beautifully and peacefully in our home. I even got to carry her out to Dr. Brown's car to say goodbye one last time before she was taken for cremation. I cannot recommend Dr. Brown, and her company Paws At Peace highly enough. read more

Dr. Brown was amazing. She came over to my house where my boy Ace felt the most comfortable. She explained to me all of the steps and made it easy for me to understand. I never once felt like there was no empathy or compassion, she gave me space and comfort when needed. I got a private cremation for Ace with a beautiful custom urn and necklace. I was having surgery a week later so his ashes were returned in short of that - faster than what she anticipated but also very appreciated because she knew I would be down for awhile! I found Dr. Brown and Paws at Peace during the most difficult time every pet parent faces, end of life care. My 14 year old had battled and beat cancer but was not as lucky with the neurological disease that slowly took away her mobility, and in the end her ability to live and enjoy life. I contacted Dr Brown from her website, I left a message and received a call back within an hour. After discussing the situation and giving her my girls medical details and how she was doing we set up an appointment for the end of the next day. It was a sad but peaceful day. We spent the day loving on and saying good bye to our girl. She was bathed in love surrounded by her human and canine family in the comfort of her own yard and home. Dr Brown arrived within the time she said, she had actually called to say she was running a little late with the previous emergency appt. which was appreciated. After our meeting I can see how this happens because she does not rush. Her empathy and care is clearly demonstrated in her actions and kindness for both her patient, and pet parents. I felt like she would have stayed with us all evening. She made sure we were informed and prepared for the procedure before, then allowed us time to process and deal with the after. She made a paw print plaque, which is not only really nice to have but was a really nice to do. For me it was a nice ritual to watch her making the plaque while we talked and I spent the last few moments with my girl. The actual procedure was peaceful, respectful and as good as saying good bye to someone you love can be. Dr Brown was compassionate, professional and efficient. My girl was comfortable and relaxed, peacefully falling asleep on my lap. Dr Brown's professionalism, compassion and kindness made a difficult time not only bearable but peaceful and exactly what my amazing girl deserved. Dr. Monica Brown is a wonderful person and a compassionate veterinarian. My sweet old dog (13 year old family pet) was in the last stage of her life and it was too painful for her to get up or move. She had stopped eating and drinking and I knew it was her time to go. I called Paws at Peace and a several other in home euthanasia clinics, all of which were very pleasant over the phone. I went with Dr. Brown because of her reasonable pricing and our schedule. I am so glad I did. My sweet girl Oreo was dying and she had wedged herself into an awkward area in the garage. It was too painful too move her as something on her insides was grieving her terribly (she had cancer). Dr. Brown came that afternoon and was very accommodating to Oreo's choice of spots to lay down. It was a peaceful passing and Dr. Brown was so caring and obliging. My mother had come over and we shared the story of how God had brought Oreo into my life and into our family. She later sent my family a sympathy card with a beautiful Rainbow Bridge poem insert which brought so much comfort to myself, my children, and the whole family. I had my best friend put down almost two years ago, and I'm still horrified at how he passed. He was suffering from congestive heart failure, and I decided it would be for the best that I had him euthanized as gently as possible instead of suffering what I read to be a terrible, painful death. I didn't want to worry or stress my baby out, so I decided to have an in-home vet come. Dr. Brown botched the procedure grotesquely. What should have been a 5 minute procedure TOPS took almost 45 minutes, during most of which, my friend was terrified and confused and trying to hide from his executioner. She gave him the wrong dose of the anesthetic--I don't even know that she weighed him first. She was unsympathetic and cold to both of us the whole time, and she never apologized for her honestly disgusting mistakes. I didn't realize just how bad and unprofessional she was until I sat in on my grandmother's cat's euthanasia, which only took ~5 minutes from start to finish and was totally serene. STAY FAR AWAY FROM DR. BROWN. Awful experience that still haunts me to this day. Oh god my poor baby. read more
