After seeing so many great reviews I was excited to use this company. I had put in my phone the wrong day for the consult and so when I received a message from a random number I listened to the message and thought- oh no! I called back instantly and apologized told them I had the wrong date and asked if they were still at my apt. They said no and complained about parking and I continued to ask if we could meet another day. After muting me and talking among them-self- clearly angry at me- they snappily told me to email them my availability and they would get back to me. So I said I would do it within the hour and apologized again. I send them my availability and waited ( my header was So Sorry- meet and greet-) I get a email back saying they would come out but this time it would cost me 20 dollars and it would be a quick visit, get keys and paperwork and leave. I emailed back and said the paperwork said nothing about 20 dollar visit and if it had I would pay but since it didn't I didn't think I should pay. I get a email back saying I was being rude and that the girls I talked to on the phone thought the treatment I gave them was uncalled for. The only thing on the phone I did was apologize because I missed the time, I messed up, and I felt bad. So why would I be rude? What really happened is that I was being put down and intimidated into paying a 20 dollar fee because the girls were angry that they couldn't find parking at my apartment . I acknowledged it was my fault and apologized. It was only when I questioned paying 20 dollars for a 2 second visit they decided to throw insults at me. Needless to say after feeling verbally put down and bullied about something I so clearly apologized for I told them I would go with a different company and that I no longer felt comfortable letting them in my home when I wasn't there. I would not recommend them to anyone. I guess as long as everything stays perfect they will stay nice- but we don't live in a perfect world do we.. read more

Jo and her team at Paws, Claws, Wings and Things are AMAZING! I have quite a zoo including 11 birds, several who are disabled and a few that are very aggressive and Jo is wonderful with them. She is the first person I have had that the birds respond to in a calm manner and I completely trust her. I also have two dogs, two cats and a bearded dragon all of which love Jo. My cat is diabetic and needs insulin shots and I I feel completely confident leaving them in Jo's care. I rarely traveled before I discovered this service. Now I actually enjoy myself when I have to go out of town and Jo also texts me after each visit (sometimes even with photos!) so I am much more at ease. She is thorough in her initial visit and really takes the time to get to know you and your animals and provides answers to any questions you could possibly have about her background, the service and your needs. I decided to call here after my husband and I agreed that it was a better option than calling in a favor with friends. I was a little hesitant because my cat is extremely needy, passive aggressive and holds grudges. He's an indoor cat so using a kennel or a sanctuary wasn't an option. Jo came over after our initial email to meet our cat, and so I can feel out how the process works with a stranger in my house. But the second she came inside both my cat and I were drawn to her kind nature. So much so, when my husband and I came back from the trip, our cat barely noticed the days. He was affectionate and not in an excess lonely way, but as a thank you for using Jo :) We used them again 3 weeks later for another trip (because we were just so pleased with the service) this time she was introducing Chelsea, who is an absolute jewel that shines in our apartment. Our cat fell in love with her like the aunt that spoils him with too many treats. The recent time we used their service was over the Thanksgiving holiday, which was last minute and extended due to circumstances. My partner, housemate and I have worked with Jo several times now when we've all been out of town. We initially found out about her because she was advertised as being knowledgeable about rabbits--we have one, and a lot of people don't know anything about them. We were not disappointed; she has seemed very knowledgeable about them, and we are completely comfortable leaving our rabbit (and 3 cats) in her care. The first time we went with her, she came over to meet all the pets and get information on what we wanted, before it was time for our trip. She took very thorough notes and asked smart and thorough questions. Besides the rabbit, we have an elderly cat who takes several medicines, and two other cats. Not only was she unfazed by any of this, she showed me a great trick to get my older cat to take his pills without realizing it--sticking it in some hairball goop. Professional yet personal service is what I looked for in a Petsitting Company, so a week before my departure I called 3 different companies in town. These were not just googled companies, mind you...a couple were referrals from my local gourmet pet store, Tailwaggers. One company had a great website, but several AWFUL reviews. Another company didn't even return my call, even though their website had supposedly dedicated phone support. I hired PCWT through a neighbor in my building. Jo is a truly a hands-on animal care person, and a true animal lover. Sometimes one needs to just let go of one's neuroses (and I'm from NY, so I have a LOT of 'em)--and trust a professional. I have known too many actor/musician/waiter neighbors with good intentions who promise to pet sit but then suddenly take off on an audition, a gig, etc. Or worse, lost my keys somewhere between Starbucks, the supermarket or put them on top of their car and drove away!! One artist friend of mine once called me begging me to come over. The parakeet he was entrusted with had died,apparently overnight and was lying in the corner of its cage. When I finally came over we decided he should at least be preserved till his owner returned from his gig in 3 weeks, so sadly we put his Reynolds Wrapped-carcass in my friend's freezer, while we agonized over when to let the owner know. And how should we tell him (call, email? include a pic,? How morbid!) The point is, hire a pro-- they would have known to keep the bird somewhere it wouldn't suffocate to death. On interview day Mrs Sweet, her daily cat coma regimen suddenly interrupted, languidly came over to Jo, who was friendly and down on the floor ready to greet her. Mrs. Sweet allowed herself to be petted, then sauntered over to the sofa where she climbed up, gracefully perched between me and Jo. In true cat fashion, Mrs. Sweet was ready to begin the interview process-- she sitting up on the sofa, Jo sitting comfortably on the floor taking notes, and me looking like I'm just taking up space. That's when I knew my cat liked her-- if she likes the company, she'll hold court and stick around, looking engaged in stimulating conversation. Having Mrs. Sweet in good hands with a licensed pro was a true relief. I got updates while away and I didnt even have to ask, yet another great sign. I ended up hiring PCWT again for my vacation trip. When I came back, I discovered that my cat can be an awesome lap cat...hmmm wonder where she learned that from? Highly recommended! read more

Ever since I moved out here from NY in 2007, I have felt great anxiety over who to leave my precious pet in the care of when I return to NY or go on a trip. Friends and other pet sitters have let me down, and it makes me nervous giving my key to just anyone. I even passed on an enticing vacation once because it became way too complicated. Well, these worries are forever in the past!!! Lucky for me, I moved into an apartment super close to Jo's from "Paws, Claws, Wings & Things.' She is AMAZING. Some even refer to her as an animal whisperer. I didn't believe it... Until I saw it. My little guy happens to be illegal in this state (ridiculous!), so I won't directly refer to him, but let's just say his cousin was Timon from Lion King and if you glance through Jo's pictures, you might just find my cutie. As you can imagine, there are some specific rules when it comes to taking care of Exotics like him. I usually have to make up a gigantic list of rules. Not with Jo!!! She must have had every type of pet you could imagine growing up.. She immediately gave me some tips I had never heard of (and I have done my research!), recommended me to a great vet, then explained that she had 3 like him growing up. Wow! A dream come true. Next, she came in and met Murph. Again, wow! He is usually such a scaredy-cat with new people, but he went right over and nuzzled her. NUZZLED her!! (This is where I began to notice the animal whispering thing) He NEVER feels comfortable with new people, but I could tell right away he loved her. I also could see that Jo both returned the feeling and was extremely knowledgable about how to best take care of my little guy. She sat on the floor with him & played games that appeared to bring the energetic 2-year old back (he's 6&1/2). I swear I suddenly felt like that mom on the play date who overstayed her welcome. They were having soo much fun with each other. It was clear, Jo was the answer to my travel fear! I have since gone on 3 trips this year, each approximately 1 week long, and I have never felt more comfortable leaving Murph with someone than I have with Jo. She doesn't disappoint. On the contrary, she surpasses expectation. She's always taken care of his essentials like food, water, litter, and play time, but she has also at times groomed him, sent pictures, brought in the mail and made sure that my place was secure and not appearing to have nobody home. An invaluable service at an excellent price! That's Jo. I will never again stress over another vacation... Jo has been walking our two dogs (min pin & boxer) since we moved to LA about a year ago. She comes twice a day, and it's such a huge relief knowing the dogs are in good hands while we're at work. I tried a few others after that, and while they were all adequate, none of them impressed enough to become my regular sitter. Then I met Jo. I knew Jo had a good rapport with animals when my incredibly shy, mama's-boy cat came out to meet her during our initial consultation visit. I have used Jo and her services several times over the last few years to take care of 2 cats. Until recently, all had been 1-2 time visits and things went well. I just took a 17 day trip to Europe and when I returned, my apartment was a mess. The litter box was completely filled with feces as if it had not been cleaned in at least a week. The floor had not been swept once and looked like one of those restaurants with saw dust on the floor, except it was kitty litter, cat feces, cat fur and other dirt/grime. I was supposed to get "several" updates on the status of my pets and got one email the entire trip. The care taker (Claren) proceeded to make up a series of lies to cover her butt when confronted in an email with Jo that I was CC'd on. Claren seemed to not like the prospects of cleaning a litter box during the walkthrough and this proved to be the case. If you don't want to clean a litter box, find a new line of work!! read more

I totally disagree with Frank R's review,which seemed to me to be observations from a far, but not actual use of her services. Could he be an angry and/or revengeful friend or neighbor ? Contrary to his beliefs, dogs bark, birds chirp, cats meow in communication and not always in distress. Jo spent 3 nights with my animal gang 2 weeks ago in August, 2010. She loved, walked, played with, cleaned up after, and spent the night with my beloved dogs, birds, and rabbits. When I returned, all the animals were very happy and contented, and the house was left immaculate. This hasn't been the case with other pet nannies. They did exactly what they said they would do, and I would recommend them without hesitation. It's difficult to leave your home and especially your pet in the care of someone you don't know. I looked through the pet sitting services on Yelp and decided they had a long track record and enough good reviews. They send 2 possible caretakers over (in case one was busy) to meet me, go over the care/feeding instructions, and get the key. I have one shy cat and one very friendly cat. They took great care of them while I was away for 5 days. They sent me texts letting me know what the cats were up to, how much they had eaten, and "litterbox action". The kind of thing you need to know to put your mind at rest when away. I have been very happy with the attention to detail and the follow-through that Jo provides. She cat-sitted (sat?) for me quite a few times this season when I went snowboarding. When she first came to visit and meet my cat, she was very thorough and took careful notes. I was put further at ease by her leaving a copy of her bond and insurance policy for me to review. She works on short notice if she can fit it in, which is great for those last minute trips. She doesn't mind cleaning up when my cat gets all emo when I am gone, which is great cuz cat pee soaking over a weekend is no fun. I have a 13 year old diabetic cat that requires insulin injections in addition to other medications and no one else has been able to get near her unless she was medically boarded at the vet which costs an arm and a leg - and keeps her cooped in small cage. Jo is a cat whisperer - I couldn't believe how easy it was for her to put my cat at ease and to give her the shots twice a day. On top of it, she grabbed mail, checked for rain leaks, moved cars on street cleaning days and changed which lights were on each day so it looked like someone was home for the two weeks we were gone. I met her when she was caring for my neighbors macaw...they were dancing together in the backyard - literally doing shoulder bumps to oldies...I watched for 10minutes from my window. Then I learned she walks dogs. I have a silly little bugger who has to spend a lot of time at home...so Jo comes every weekday to walk her. One day, she didn't have a key to get in, so she scaled the fence, bruising herself but she said, worth it to get to Rosie! I have a 17 year old tabby and had used this service intermittently for about a year when traveling out of town. I will no longer be hiring PCWT. One sitter - Ashely - is great and if you can request her and she's available, you're in good hands...otherwise it's a toss up. For $20/day I expect the agreed upon basics to be taken care of: daily litter clean up, fresh water, food down and a daily update (txt and pic). Not the case. The last time I used them, I had to request an update (as in "it's Christmas and I haven't heard anything...is my cat being fed? Is everything ok?"), and was then overcharged on my invoice. When I got home, the litter box was disgusting and clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. The owner was unapologetic and rude. I've tried to be flexible and understanding but this was the last straw for me. This place can't possibly have 5 stars...do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more
