The first time I went to PAX I signed up immediately for their wine club. The wines they had at the time were so delicious and it was a great deal. However, since their wines change frequently (which is fun and exciting) I feel like if I can't swing by and do a tasting first I don't know what to order as my allotment. One star has been removed because I seem to always have a problem with getting my allotment there but it not counting--it might be me, but I also always get a new server when I go in and I was constantly confused about their wine club. read more

My husband and I love coming here. We loved it so much that we joined the wine club. We came here when it was wind gap but joined back up with Pax because we love the people who work here and the wine. Good music playing all the time. Fresh air flowing thru. I have been trying to go to this winery for almost a year. Ever since they put the sign up in the Barlow that they were opening a tastinsg room. The winery has been in operation since 2006, and as an urban winery in the Barlow since 2013. Tasting room is right off Mackenzie Street. It has a wonderful ambiance. Classy, country, relaxed, down to earth, Sebastopol, reclaimed barn wood, nice leather couch, and some contemporary design with a great view of the Barlow traffic. Richie was my pourer. He took me through all the wines they had available. I was very excited because I knew this winery specialized in Rhones and Burgundy and a few extras. Even though the winery is in Sebastopol (RRV AVA), most of the grapes are sourced from the windy gaps of Petaluma (Sonoma Coast AVA) (hence the name Wind Gap.) The Petaluma wind gap is probably going to be one of the next AVAs named in Sonoma county, as it draws the nice coastal breezed through a funnel to cool the grapes on hot days. What's unique about the wines is that some of the wines are fermented in egg shaped cement fermenters. This gives the wines a unique minerality. The wines I loved the most was the Rhones 2012 Granache, 2012 Syrah, and a smoky 2008 Syrah. Check it out! read more

Wind Gap Wines is a small tasting room located in the center of The Barlow (if you haven't visited the Barlow yet, you need to come here). They have a few couches to give that relaxed feel, tables and stunning interior design. This winery is known for representing a new style of wine that is more natural. Went to Wind Gap pick up party - Open House yesterday. We actually had a pick up for Jolie Laide wines, which is the label of the wine made by Scott Schultz assistant winemaker at Wind Gap. The Jolie Laide wines were terrific, the two whites Melon and Pinot Gris were crisp with citrus and tropical. The rose was fruity, lively and savory while the red Gamay was fruity and very gulpable :). We also tasted through the Wind Gap, Pax and Agharta wines which were also very good with a wide range of grape varieties including Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The open house was held in the winery to accommodate the large crowd and besides all the wine there was plenty of oysters (raw and BBQ), beef or tofu sliders and lots of meats and cheeses. If you are coming to taste wine the tasting room up front is very nice and a friendly knowledgeable staff serving the wine. Walked by this tasting room on a Sunday afternoon. We noticed they had Pinot Noir on their menu and decided to give it a try. The tasting price for their 3 Pinot Noir current releases was a whopping $20 per person! This seemed pretty pricey to me but being the Pinot Noir lover that I am I decided to fork out the big bucks. These wines are fermented with the stems, which for me, gave it a similar taste of too much oak and tannins. While talking to our server, I learned that this tasting room is a new venture for this winemaker. They have been making wines for several years and have quite a following. They do have other wine flights you can try for a lower price than $20 per person, so maybe next time I will go that route. read more

Pax has a nice environment in The Barlow in Sabastopol. They were generous with tasting since one of our friends is in he industry. Overall, the style of their wines just wasn't my taste. Nice little gem inside the Barlow, across from Taylor Maid. Loved the ambiance, the modern industrial feel of metal and wood, and especially the record collection. The gal helping us was sweet and seemed to have a decent grasp on the basics of their wine collection, although she did not offer up anything I couldn't have read on the brochure. The 2014 Chardonnay was not much of a hit. Neither was another of their $14+ glasses, although I am grateful for the sample pours. To be honest, the $7/glass of Trousseau Gris was the best and a special treat. Sweet but also dry, it was a nice way to open the evening as the sun set outside, flooding the street with gorgeous rays. Totally dig the music selection and it seemed like most people were enjoying themselves. I'd go again. read more

I really love the different tasting programmes offered including a draft wine program (bring your growler!) I'm partial to the Trouseau Gris (although the Jolie-Laide label steals my heart even more), but come here for some lovely semi whole cluster Pinot Noir, funky orange Pinot Gris and a fun tasting room atmosphere flanked upon the Thursday afternoon farmers market. Bought a glass at the Barlow for the Halloween night at the Barlow. Syrah 10.00 a pour. Nice location with a lovely west county look and feel. This was complimented by cute blue mason glass jars, though clear instead of blue, would have been better; the unpretentious gesture was nice. The ladies serving on my visit were courteous and welcoming. I can't speak to their wine knowledge as they didn't share much. To the wine itself the Syrah however was flat and not just monochromatic but almost flavorless. Think water strained through pea gravel (but not mineral-ly or salty) chalky almost gritty. If you aerate it in your mouth you get a hint of grape skins. I didn't finish the glass ...maybe I am just spoiled by the competition in the county. read more

Big disappointment! I went to the Balow with some friends and we tasted at Marimar Estate and that was wonderful, then has small plates at the brewery which was also great and fun. While a friend was getting coffee I decided to check out the tasting flight, the "explorer flight" look good so a friend and I shared a tasting. The girl that had only been there for 2 days was great! very nice and still learning. Her "boss" was very rude and a little arrogant. The wines weren't good, low end blends.. Love this place. I make Wind Gap a stop whenever I am in the area (every 2-3 months. It feels a bit more like a clubhouse or living room than most tasting rooms, and it can take a bit to get the hang of how best to order. But the wines are amazing and it's a relaxing time. The 50/50 Syrah/Viognier blend - on tap only - is one of my favorite wines anywhere. read more

We were at the Thursday night market on June 15th, 2017 and were very shocked that this winery dared to serve oxidized, nasty tasting and smelling wine. When confronted they did not offer any refund or other option of decent wine. When in wine country, it does not have to be high brow, but at least drinkable, which this was not. I found it interesting that the woman working the booth was not drinking this wine, but a local beer and gave us some very serious bad attitude when asked if she would be willing to make it right for us. Not a Fan. Enjoyed the selection of LP albums to play. Did not enjoy the overpriced and limited tastings. We had a large group and made a reservation in advance. The first thing we were greeted with was "I don't know anything about a reservation. I'm here all by myself!" We thought she wanted us to leave. Our friends highly recommended this place. The Arinto is really worth a stop and a tasting, it is very uncommon to find it and this one is a very good specimen of what a good Arinto should be. The variety of wines is quite interesting and rich, adding some exciting notes to the regular Chardonnay/Sauvignon/Pinot/Syrah scenario. Come and try!!! read more
