First time here. This hidden gem is a vibe, especially for a date night or hanging out with friends. We did not have a reservation, but the staff was very accommodating and found seats for all four of us at the bar. The place stays busy, and the bar area is constantly moving with drinks and food coming out. The restaurant is clean, stylish, and has a great atmosphere. The prices reflect the neighborhood it's located in, but the portions are generous. We ended up boxing up leftovers to take home. I highly recommend the Pad Thai. It comes topped with crab, shrimp, and grilled prawns, and it was absolutely delicious. I'd definitely come back. Next time I'd like to try some of the cocktails. The drinks I saw on other tables looked pretty impressive. Tips: Make a reservation if you're planning a date night. I would not recommend sitting at the bar for a date since it can get pretty busy and noisy. Cleanliness: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Flavors: 8/10 Portion: 10/10 Coming back? Yes

Wow, what a find! Once again, Yelp came to our rescue when we needed to find somewhere to eat immediately and didn't know of any decent places in the neighborhood. Once we had decided on Thai food, we went to Payakk. We ordered two main dishes and one appetizer. Looking at the trendy décor and other guests, I was expecting small portions and unusual flavor combinations. Boy, was I wrong! Even the two of us (two adults with a medium appetite and one ravenous six year old) had to take home leftovers. The pork jawls with fried rice stood out to me. My daughter devoured almost all of the meat and most of the rice. That's as good as it gets! The place itself is really interesting and cool. I definitely want to come back for a date night to enjoy the food, music and cocktails.

First time visiting this restaurant and it did not disappoint. It's a cute little building on the outside. We walked in and was greeted by the host. He asked if we had a reservations and we did not, however was still accommodating and sat us at the bar. Sitting at the bar was probably one of my favorite spots to sit. We were able to see our drinks be made, and was immersed in the vinyl and Great music. The food did not disappoint. We got the fish which I definitely recommend with the side of sticky rice and a steak with the prawn fried rice! The food was amazing and we are super excited to visit again!

Came to celebrate vday!!! We originally had a 7pm reservation but swapped to 5 since we were not doing the prix fixe menu. When we arrived, there was already a few tables sat and by 6pm, the tiny restaurant was filled. Payakk is such a cute, neighborhood spot that is tucked in the Oakland hills. The ambiance is eccentric with it's pop of color walls and decor -- I loved it! Since it was our first time here, we opted for the pad thai, rib eye, mushroom puffs, and coconut rice with fish. Rib eye: delicious, cooked perfectly, and paired wonderfully with the sauce on the side Pad thai: not your normal pad thai, comes with head-on shrimp and crab meat. Yummy, but wished it was a tad bit more flavorful Mushroom puff: the star of the show! The filling is flavored perfectly with a flaky crust. The sauce on the side also complimented it so well with it's touch of sourness Coconut rich with fish: tasted great when you had it with the fish. Nothing special. Service was good, very friendly! Perfect spot for a date night or girl's night

Awesome Thai place with a twist both from flavor palette & unique esthetics inside the restaurant. We enjoyed our dinner & Chef visited each table to thank guests. Nice touch! Servers were friendly. Must try in Oakland!

Food here was delicious, although priced for the neighborhood for sure. Really enjoyed the pork jowl fried rice, Pad Thai, and Nam Tok in particular. Great vibe inside with some really cool art on the walls, and love the circular windows on the side of the building as well. Would have been 5 stars but we were very abruptly told we essentially had 5 minutes to wrap up our meal, pay, and leave the table less than 1.5 hours after our reservation time, for another party's upcoming reservation. For a table of 6 with 2 small kids that we were managing throughout the meal, this was quite unexpected and we didn't even get a chance to try dessert, which we'd been excited for. The reservation confirmation specifically mentions that the table is reserved for 2.5 hours for parties of 6, and we weren't told of the upcoming reservation when we arrived, so this was a really unpleasant end to what was otherwise a great meal.

Exceptional food, great service, uniquely charming ambiance. I'd go as far as having a special date here, great with friends, family, but definitely charming all around. Food is great to share, dessert is fantastic. Overall an insanely slept on restaurant. It's a hidden gem in Oakland tucked away in the hills. The chef is incredible. Best Thai food I've had in the US.

A charming neighborhood restaurant with a cozy, home-style ambiance and a full bar that perfectly complements the experience. The food was absolutely outstanding--its creativity and bold flavors truly set it apart from other Thai restaurants. Each dish was beautifully presented, with a level of detail that felt worthy of Michelin recognition. Every plate had a unique and distinctive flavor that left us genuinely impressed. Chef Tobb did an incredible job, and you can clearly taste the passion and care put into every dish. The presentation alone was stunning, but the flavors elevated the experience even further. To top it all off, the service was excellent. Our servers were warm, attentive, friendly and consistently checked in to make sure everything was perfect. I'll definitely be coming back with friends and family to explore more of the menu--especially since they offer new specials every month. Highly recommended for delicious food and a wonderful experience!!!

The ambience and decor of the space was so hip, I felt severely underdressed. It's a cozy spot with ~10 two-tops, a couple of four-tops and one large table in the back that sits 8. It was empty when we showed up for our 5pm reservation. Food came out super fast. By the time we left at 5:45, only one other table was dining. As all reservations for the rest of the night was gone, I assume it's going to be hopping by 6pm. The beef stew curry was tasty. The meat was tender and flavourful. But be warned, it has a bit of a kick. So if your kiddo is not ready for spicy yet, order something else. The pad Thai was not your typical noodle dish. This was super fancy!! Topped with a soft shell crab, there were crab meat and shrimp. They plated it with a drizzle of coconut milk on the plate's edge. Was super tasty and flavourful.

We've been to this chic, modern Thai restaurant more than once, and it's usually a wonderful experience. The decor is gorgeous--lots of plants and a fresh, stylish vibe. Our first visit was great; the food was delicious and well-prepared. We came back for Valentine's Day, but unfortunately, that night was a bit off. Some dishes, especially the meat, were too chewy, and I actually had some GI discomfort after the meal, which is unusual for me with Thai food. I suspect it might have been the Valentine's Day rush or the preset menu stretching the kitchen. Still, I know they can do better, given our prior visit. I'd return on a regular night to enjoy that lovely atmosphere again

My husband, friends and I LOVED it here. Great ambiance, and they had a very tasty menu. It was all so delicious and the branzino was bonkers. We ate it so fast because it was amazing! We also really loved the service, our waiter was really kind and even brought out a baby safe plate for our friend's baby. We hope to become regulars!

I was excited to see a new restaurant opening up in the sleepier side of Montclair. I went there for a Thursday night dinner. I was impressed with the decor. It has hipster retro vibes - indoor plants, retro posters, turntable and LPs. The menu was interesting for a Thai restaurant. Items not usually seen at other Thai places. The prices were typical for higher end Thai cuisine. $$ is about right. It's not as expensive as Daughter Thai in the Village. We ordered 2 apps and a main. From the menu description I was expecting decent portions. My gripe was the size of the apps. The food was good but I wish there was more. The main Picanha dish was decent sized at $45 but I wish the accompanying rice was not super spicy. A menu warning would be good. Overall I would try the restaurant again when they get their liquor license and try other dishes.

    Whole branzino - delicious!

We all split all the specialty cocktails and I got the Khao Pad Kang Kiew (rice with eggplant and chicken topped with a fried egg). Dishes are $20-23 ish each. We were seated at the 6 person table in the back of the restaurant near the bathroom. My favorite drinks were their take on a hard thai iced tea, the lavender mojito, a take on an espresso martini. There was also this spicy drink that had thai chilis in it that is VERY spicy lol. Pros: - the rice dish was DELICIOUS and also huge haha. Came with cucumbers to cut the peppery flavor if needed. - All the cocktails were pretty different and it was fun to try all of them. They were all beautiful to look at and tasty (lots of coconut and Thai inspiration). - Service was pretty good - Has "typical" thai dishes like pad thai and pad see ew, and also more rare ones that are hard to find - Close to many bars and other establishments, so perfect if you want to eat here as a first, second, or third location of your outing haha Cons: - The air flow in the back wasn't amazing so I did feel like it got stuffy/hot - Parking can be tough in this area so I recommend BARTing Another reason to love Oakland!

Unfortunately it was too spicy for my liking and some of the white rice was burnt from the being at the bottom of the pot. There was only 8 eggplant pieces in the entire dish and surprisingly a lot more chicken. So depending on your preference this may be a good thing! I was really craving the sweet, earthy flavor of eggplant so while lots of protein was greatly appreciated I did wish there was more eggplant in the dish. Either way it was a good portion of food so they don't skimp here for sure! The service was friendly and super attentive the moment you walk in. I'd be willing to try another non spicy dish here.

Some personal standouts are the kor moo yang (grilled pork jowl), grilled beef short rib, mok pa (steamed catfish), and the Lao-style papaya salad -- which is perfectly spicy and packed with flavor. Portions are generous and incredibly filling, and everything is so flavorful and delicious. Even when ordered for delivery, the food arrives fresh and holds up beautifully. But it was not full throughout the time we were at the restaurants. Experience: Food came out pretty fast and it was hot(!). Overall, service was good and they checked in on us a few times to make sure all is good. Food: - Nam Khao was fantastic. Crispy rice, the mixed minced vegetables, and the cooked sausage. Together with the lime that you can squeeze to preference, it was delicious! Haven't had Nam Khao this delicious in a while! - Pad See Ew with pork was alright. It was cooked well and a little on the sweeter side rather than savory, but missing the smoky flavor "wok hei" that would take this to the next level that I love. - Fried Sweet Fish was alright too. Fish is fried with a very thin batter but it had black pepper which my kids doesn't want as they're sensitive to anything spicy. The fish had a light fishy taste to it (fresh water fish) which would be better if they even use a little ginger to cut the fishy taste for a better taste. - Guay Tiew is very similar to Pad See Ew with the exception that it had a fried egg on the top and had seafood (shrimp and squid). - Vientiane Crispy Roll is different from regular egg rolls. Made with rice paper roll so it was crispy but also chewy, which is different and may not be what everyone is used to. Will return to try out other dishes.

I missed photos of the main entrees enjoying our time and honestly not sure what we ordered as we paid with a kiosk and didn't get a printed receipt even thought I typed in my email.. so that's frustrating with technology. If you want a receipt have it printed before you leave. My friend had a spicy eggplant dish and I had a tofu dish with rice and no fish sauce. Wish I could be more descriptive but can't say without an itemized receipt.. doesn't matter though, was all amazing flavors for both my friend (who travels and has worldly palette, and my self with a broad pallet only within the US) Flavors were amazing and service was on par. I did have an issue at first with the first server saying Pad Thai could be done with tofu and no fish sauce so I was excited, but then the next server said it was already mixed and not able to accommodate, but did find me an alternative I found flavorful with veggies, though missed having the peanuts in my dish. I had Pad See You instead without meat or fish sauce. Service overall was wonderful, attentive and didn't have to wait for anything. They did close and allowed us to stay on the patio visiting long after. Would be happy to return again.. I didn't ask about validating my parking and then they closed, so that was a bummer but my bad.. do check when you arrive and see if they can validate to help with a hefty parking cost $20 for us but hung out longer than most..

Between our group, we got Sakoo, Nam Khao, Fried Clear Rice Roll Wraps, Sai Oua (Lao Sausages), Crispy Pork Belly, Pad Kee Mao, and a large side of Sticky Rice. There were so many layers of flavors and textures from the fish sauce, the peanuts, and the fermented sour pork. If there's one dish you must order when you stop by here, it's this one. Another dish I really enjoyed was the Sai Oua; I get this dish whenever I see it at restaurants. Although I've had Lao sausages which were very heavy in lemongrass flavor, the ones here did not have the same flavor profile. Instead, the ones here leaned more towards the spicy side. The crispy pork belly was another standout dish for me. If you enjoy Filipino lechon or Cantonese siu yuk, this is another must-order dish. The pork is well seasoned and has the perfect ratio of lean to fatty parts. Overall, I had wonderfully delicious meal. I would certainly recommend coming as a large group so you're able to order a wide variety of dishes. If you're looking for something to really excite your taste buds, head over to Bhan Mae Vane.

This is our go-to Restaurant, this year for Thanksgiving & Christmas both. Friends who joined us were impressed with the food & were very interested to know the name & location of this restaurant. Now my In-Laws like to order Take Out more often, and they always want to order Thai food! It used to be they wanted Indian food, which we love but truly had not found satisfactory in the past. I'm so glad because Thai Taste Kitchen doesn't disappoint! They have been impeccable about marking the containers & even packaging meat vs vegetarian items in separate bags, and they allow specifics like "no shrimp paste" or whatever, more of "this" or none of "that". White Rice included free with entrees thst are not noodle or rice based, and if you prefer individual instead of family style, you can add an appetizer to each entree individually for about $5-$6, which is about the same as splitting an appetizer order in half, but sometimes people prefer a different appetizer. I like to avoid fried foods, for example, but others love egg rolls or fried chicken (was that an appetizer or an entree?) Thai Iced Tea comes in one size only, and it's small, but consider the calories. This is probably best in small size & I was thoroughly satisfied, I had not indulged for many, many years and it was so delicious. If possible, get it with no ice so it doesn't melt on the way to your destination, you can add your own ice once you get there. Tbh, I started drinking it immediately & finished it in about 10 min, since my husband was driving. Treat yourselves & I think you'll be really glad you found this place. One caveat, they are short staffed so keep that in mind if you eat in the restaurant, I believe only one person is serving tables and may also handle the register, so it may require patience. The beauty of Take Out is we can set out a buffet, everyone grabs a plate & chooses ehat they like, and we can reheat warm items in the microwave in about a minute, and it tastes it's best hot.
