This is a great grocery store. If you live in Ione. The bakery is great, the deli counter is great. Prices are a little higher but they do a great job of keeping things in stock and removing all expired food. The staff is friendly and helpful. I am so grateful to the emp!oyees of Plaza Market. I am 81 years old & of such limited mobility that I am no longer able to do my own shopping. I have asked the friend who shops for me to thank the checker & other employees she encounters for keeping the store open & stocked with supplies. They are truly heroes of this crisis. Yes, it is a small, rural store; so some prices are higher than a big box store. But that is an inconsequential concern compared to the value I am receiving by having a nearby grocery store open. The negative reviews of this market sounds as if written by someone who hasn't actually gone to the market in years, since it hasn't been owned by those owners for many years. I'm not one to post reviews as a rule, but these negative reviews were so very 'wrong' that I had to offer a more accurate picture of the market. The Ione Market is such a convenience to have here in town that not only carries a good variety of grocery items and fresh flowers, but a great wine and beer section too. I love their awesome gooey cinnamon bread too. Everything in the market appears clean. The fresh produce, while limited, is kept well maintained with no bad or over mature produce left in the bins. As limited as their produce may be, I've come to appreciate being able to buy fresh berries in town without having to go all the way up the hill when I'm in the mood for a berry smoothie.The deli has always been tidy and clean when I've ordered sandwich meats. Staff folks are friendly, helpful, and have always been courteous to me. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the freezer keeps the ice cream too soft, and it's often grainy, and in my world, that's just wrong (laffin). Turn down, or fix, the freezer and I'll be happy to give them 5 stars for a great small town market! As to the uncivil and clueless counter help, I can't fault the store for that given that much of their help are local youth. I've noticed there's a high turnover, so it appears once they realize someone's not working out, they are quick to make changes. I suspect that many local born teens have no idea what a classic Reuben is, and what it should not be. This is a small rural community. Yes, they've not been well trained, but as a rule I tend to be more flexible when expecting the kind of service or product knowledge that I came to expect down in the Bay Area. I think I might have given them a little coaching by stating what I specifically expected in that sandwich, especially if it was a young person. We all have to start somewhere. read more

Third times a charm? Not in this case. Never ever again! I stopped by for some emergency produce and some snacks for my sick kid. I couldn't do the prices. I just couldnt. They're so outrageous, I don't know how they get away with charging $15 for cheddar cheese, $5 for Lay's potato chips and $10 for a side of spinach dip! LMAO! I threw a few things in the cart, and decided to just get some meat and cheese from their deli. ...I don't even know how to explain this bizarre experience. The lady behind the counter ignored me for 5 minutes until the cashier came over and asked her to help me. Then she took another 3 minutes, then walkyd overy to me as slowly as possible with the dirtiest look on her face, leting me know i was NOT WELCOME. Finally, "What do you want?" Haha! Really? I should have walked away right there. I nearly blacked out due to the way she spoke, "Roast beef? Thats it, right?" (Like it better be!!!!) She was PISSED that i ordered 3 items... Gave me the wrong order, but I wasn't going to argue with her- looks like she just got released from prison (she was marked and proud). Scared to eat my roast beef. Seriously! She looked like she wanted to jump over the counter and bite a hole in my cheeck. She was vicious! If looks could kill! I will stay FAR AWAY from this place. I'm not going to over pay for the wrong order, rude service, scared the employees are going to punch me in the face for asking a question and over priced items. Jackson is just 10 minutes away. Safeway is even closer. The customer service was so bad I thought I was on Candid Camera... Still in shock. Bad bad bad business all the way around.
