Im sitting here at jiffy lube on valentines evening because the day after my oil change here my car seized on the freeway, reading on low oil pressure. Expecting a very pricey bill for the fix up, and needing to go to the dealership this weekend to check the engine. Never any had problems with my 2017 rav4, and now... sigh. I'll count my blessings, just glad I was not going any faster when this happened and no one was injured on the road from my stalled car in the middle of the freeway. The front desk man was very nice, but I think the mechanic was a little spacey the morning I was here. I was the only customer at the time in the waiting room. Please be careful. Update: few hundred dollars later jiffy lube and another place will not touch the filter because of liability reasons and for me to see dealer first. So here I am driving around with extra 5 liters of oil on hand to refill as I go. This is too much for a routine oil change lol. My boyfriend said the filter and nozzle are in, but the filter leaks all around, so either they didn't place the filter correctly or the filter is the wrong size Update: at my dealer, needing to get a rental car until Monday. read more

These guys were recommended by a friend. First time going this week and I was very pleased. Moved to Houston a few years ago and have relied on the dealer since I moved ... but never again. Had to have the jeep towed in after losing power on I-45. Wasn't optimistic but within a few hours, they narrowed it down to what they thought was a faulty wheel speed sensor. Had it back by the end of the day and car is running great. Shop was clean. People I dealt with were professional, came across as trustworthy, and they did a great job for a fair price. Do not go here. I've had multiple bad experiences with the manager, which I overlooked because the shuttle service was convenient. But it's just not worth it. He's rude; he has denied me service on multiple occasions for flimsy reasons. You really just shouldn't be supporting his business. Also, they charge you $100 just to look at your car, even if you tell them exactly where the problem is, and that has never sat right with me. Let me tell you about my most recent experience: They open at 7:00, but their first appointment is at 8:00. Now, to any reasonable person, this would imply that people can come in before 8:00 without an appointment. I have to be at work at 7:30, and have specifically been told I should just come in early without an appointment. Today I brought it in for an oil change at that time. I was going to leave it all day while I was at work, so they had plenty of time. Nope. I didn't have an appointment. And I'm a bit surprised by this, because it's just an oil change. And he starts arguing with me, saying I should've set an appointment. And I said, "But you guys don't have appointments this early." And then he directly contradicted what I'd been told previously, and told me I should set an appointment, and just drop it off early. And I told him that's not what I had been told before, which is why I didn't do so this time. And that's when he told me I shouldn't come back. I never said anything untoward to him. All I did was tell him what I had been told, and express surprise that he couldn't get me in for an oil change even if my car's there all day. And he booted me from his business. And that was probably the 3rd or 4th time I've had an "argument" with this guy because I was trying to figure out the policy of the week. I'm pretty sure the guy just doesn't like me, and was trying to get rid of me. Either way, the changing messaging plus being unnecessarily argumentative is bad business. Don't support him. read more

BEWARE! Terrible customer service! Full disclosure, my family has taken their cars here for over a decade and spent approx 6k over the years on ONE car (not to mention thousands on others) which I was scoffed at and was told by customer service clerk, Jason, other clients have spent $100,000! Totally disregarding years of loyalty from my family. Here's the deal. My mother's old car had been diagnosed a few times when servicing other things with a window motor / issue that needed repaired. Finally took it in for the motor they had already told me to replace multiple times, no biggie. Then they send me a quote for over $500 including yet another $99 diagnostic fee. I called Jason, who sent me the invoice, to discuss the fee which I thought was unethical since we already knew and had diagnosed the problem multiple times over the years. I also said the car is only worth about a $1000 so was kind of thrown off by the $500. Expecting maybe a "no prob we can wave the fee since we've known about this and you've been a loyal customer" this guy is the worst, he then rudely counters me and says, "our quotes are only good for 30 days and I don't care how much your car is worth" Of course that upsets me by his time and out of principle I said I'll skip and come get the car. It then gets a lot worse. When I get there to pay $99 diagnostic fee again for something I already knew and previously paid for, Jason then goes on to say basically, you mean nothing to us, I looked up all your records and you've only spent $5800 and we have customers that have spent over $100,000. As I was being hustled for a fee and complaining Jason was IRONICALLY blurting out from behind his desk I was trying to hustle them for not wanting to pay the fee I had already paid multiple times! He was also spewing off things like "we don't work for free" and "you're so unprofessional!" Obviously a pure projection of his behavior and limited abilities to communicate properly. At this time, yes, i raised my voice and told him basically what horrible customer relations he has and I would write the review then guess what happens! He say's "two can play at that game, Mr realtor from LA!" Yes I'm a broker in LA which I guess he googled me to find out Once again showing the level of inappropriate and fraudulent behavior he's capable of since he's never done business with me in Los Angeles. And BTW, I've had a great real estate track record for over 20 years in LA, NY and TX! As I'm walking out he yells "have a nice life". Here's where it get good, as I drive off, I hit the window button, and low and behold the window motor worked and window went up w no problem. So after all that and the $99 fee I was hustled out of, the motor somewhat works again and window is up! Just a side note. I actually have a very nice life and love to help others including my family here in Houston and wonderful clients in LA and NY. So go ahead, Jason, and write your fraudulent review that nobody will ever see since all my business comes from referrals, my own properties and not Yelp reviews! The owners of Payne's should look carefully at this guy and should be fired or put back under the car out of site of customers. So finally, on the 31st of the month, I remembered an automotive place I pass daily on my commute. Payne's Automotive has a substantial, and confidence-inspiring, brick facade, with several bays for car services. Clean lobby, well appointed waiting room, and a couple of personable managers greet the would-be customer. After a brief exchange of information since I was new, the guy I was speaking with took my keys himself instead of just tossing them to the next gearhead or greasemonkey in from the shop. After a quick wait I was out of there with a brand new sticker for my window. With regular specials like 50% off "check engine" lights, quick, friendly service, and convenience to my office, I'll gladly return to Payne's. read more

Careful of this place, took my truck there to investigate a/c not working. They charged me near $100 to tell me I had a leak at service port and wanted another $500 to repair valve. Thinking that was too high I took it to another shop (REAL A/C SHOP) for a quote was not the valve it was the condenser coil gone bad, totally misdiagnosed. They don't know what there doing when it comes to a/c work, ALSO they over charged for ever part they were quoted on repair proposal, so they make their money coming and going. on average $20 extra on each part and I can prove it.........BUYER BEWARE read more

Have been taking by 2002 Explorer regularly to Payne's for the past 4 years. It helps that it's only a mile away from my office but I keep going back because their customer service is second to none. Pricing may be a little higher than hole in the wall shops but is worth it to feel confident in receiving honest service and repairs. With an older car, I'm weary of dumping a bunch of money into it with repairs, always wondering if "it's worth it". With every oil change, my car is looked over and Dennis thoroughly explains any issues or recommendations - in some cases, he has said that the repair is not worth it. Dennis is straight forward and I absolutely trust his judgement. Will continue to give Payne's my business and will continue to recommend them to others. read more

I am new to Houston and I was initially impressed with the overall appearance of the store. They charge a 99.00 diagnostic test, but I was told there was nothing wrong with my 2010 Land Rover. The bottom sounds like it's gonna fall out! I was told that there is a jack in my back seat that was making noise...so I guess I can't tell the difference between a jack on the floor or a thumping beneath the floor...(That has been going on for 6 months) I won't be back, won't refer a SOUL... I feel ripped off. I guess I had a 100.00 I wanted to throw away so, I said, "I know! Let me take my truck to the shop to see if anything is wrong with it...." Waste of money. Waste of time. *WARNING* DO NOT GO TO PAYNE'S AUTOMOTIVE on Bingle. Before I start its seems the person who responds to their reviews seems to think that they can explain away why they did what they did and not be held accountable. A couple of weeks ago we took our truck to Payne's after reading all the stellar reviews because the check engine light was on. They had our truck for less than 7 hours and charged us $200.00 for a diagnostics test that was not applied to the work being done and they didn't even resolve the issue. We walked out paying $1545.72 and the light came back on the next day! When we took it back the next day and were told they did not have time to work on it and we would have to bring it back. When we drove it, it was still having the same problem. When we took it back again they only checked the items they installed to make sure they were installed correctly. Instead keeping and performing a full check that we already paid 200.00 for. During the initial visit they performed a coolant system flush was not agreed upon and was not required and charged us 180.00 dollars and their explanation of the charge was because it was already done. We were charged 500.00 for a distributor part that is only about $100.00. I DO understand that they charge a premium for getting parts but they are totally overpriced. The while the gentleman at the front desk seemed to be very hospitable, they can not explain why work was performed that was explicitly not agreed upon. The only answer they had for not finding another issue was it didn't do that for us. THEN WHY NOT KEEP IT LONGER? I have had other mechanics ask to keep a vehicle another day to see if they can see if they can recreate the problem and diagnose. They are overpriced on top of charging for things you don't need and who knows if they even changed the parts they said they did... DO NOT GO TO PAYNE'S AUTOMOTIVE. read more

I took my car to this great auto repair shop for a really good deal and service! My car has been suffering from a problematic no start condition that had me racking my brains for 4 weeks. I replaced my fuel pump, not it, I replaced my crankshaft sensor not it. After putting in the money to replace my defective parts, I decided its time I take my car to a professional. I did took my car to another shop where the "technician" recommend me to replace my car's engine computer. WHAT?! Are you kidding me, that's just a cheap shot to get me to waste more money and still face the same problem. After getting more advice from experienced technicians they all agree its not the engine computer. So I decided to take my car to Payne's. They diagnose my car much faster than the shop I took it to before where they took 5 days and I have to call them to see what's going on. Payne's diagnosed my car within 4 hours and called me telling me that I need to replaced a damaged wire which caused all the headache problems I've faced. So they gave me a good price and I authorized the work. Had it done and my car was back good as new! Best of all, they offered me 36 months/36,000 mile warranty, NO ONE in Houston's automotive repair business will ever do that for you! I highly recommend Payne's! This business charges dealership prices and puts in AutoZone parts. Warranty is for 1 year and 12,000 miles. If you sell quality parts and stand by your service why not 2 years/24,000 miles or 3 years/36,000 miles like the dealerships honor. Charges you $100 to tell you what they need to fix. Customer service is lacking as well--needs some help in conflict management. If I could leave zero stars I would absolutely worst customer service I have ever encountered My vehicle is an older car but has an extended warranty on it I took it to Paynes to have the battery and watter pump fixed. They called the warranty company and gave them the quote to fix the car. I spoke with the manager at Paynes he said the warranty company refused to pay for the repairs as they were not covered.I called the warranty company they stayed it was covered but that they wouldn't do the work because the car was so old that they didn't think it was worth it. Come to find out pay es lied to me telling me they could fix a volkswagon when their mechanic was not certified to work on them and didn't know what he was doing so they lied to me about it after they had my car for almost 2 weeks.on top of that the owner/manager is totally rude and dishonest and is not to be trusted .Go somewhere els do not use these people. read more

I took my car there to replace brake pads which is an hour or two of work and I even have purchased the brand brake pads myself to be sure that they are going to last but they said they can't provide warranty for customer purchased parts... Fine... - Order parts yourself, I just want them to be original. - Ok, deal. - What's the warranty? - 24 months. - Ok, deal. - What is it going to cost? - About $225 plus $9 inspection fee. Later in the day I receive a call from one of them stating that parts are not going to be original parts and therefore the warranty is 12 months. I said that this is not what we agreed on and I have the original brake pads so I'll just pick up my car and do it somewhere else. This is the interesting part: - What do you mean you don't wanna do that? 99% of our customers are OK with not a brand parts. - Well, I guess I'm that 1% that doesn't want a "one fits all" brake pads on their Lexus. - And btw you have to pay $99 for inspection. - Hold on, I was told it is $9. - No, the guy that told you that is new. - I'm so done talking to you, I'm picking up my car, please send a shuttle to pick me up. - The shuttle is not available. My coworker drove me to pick up my car and not only I wasn't going to pay them a penny I will make sure that nobody from my office will ever go there. I had the smallest ever job that needed to be done and not only they acted unprofessional and rude but the guy I talked had the most arrogant attitude I've ever seen. I bought an Interstate battery from Paynes 22 months ago, and the battery has a 24-month warranty. I have my receipt and confirmed with Interstate that the battery will be replaced at no charge. When I went to Paynes, their service manager Lee told me that I would first have to pay a $57 diagnostic fee. He said this diagnostic fee was necessary beause if the problem was not the battery and they replaced it under warranty, Interstate would inspect it and Payne's would be in trouble if they gave me a replacement not due under warranty. I'm sure that's true. But I left the light on one night, I had to charge it the next day, and ever since it won't start, won't hold a charge when I jump it, and it's dead with the clock reset when I get in it. Duh, the battery is bad. I went to Walmart, they connected the battery to a machine, and in 15 seconds (literally),it diagnosed Replace Battery, but Walmart doesn't carry Interstate. So that's what the $57 covers. I get that this is an independent shop and they can charge whatever they want for whatever they want. But it hardly seems a customer friendly practice to charge $57 for 15 seconds of their time in case it's not the battery. And if it is the battery, you still pay the $57 AND they get paid by Interstate for honoring the warranty. So, that's what you're dealing with here. read more
