We visited Mayfair on Thursday for the Damien Center's 32nd Annual Dine Out for Life. It was only our second time in but I'm so glad we came. Mayfair is a quaint space that definitely feels at home on the East side. The decor is as eclectic as the clientele, but you'll feel warm and welcome no matter who you are. This is a nice neighborhood restaurant located on the east side of Indianapolis not far from Spades Park. It has that friendly local vibe to it. They have a special of the day along with other food options on their menu. Service was helpful and friendly and the patty melt was delicious!! Try the sweet potato fries with ranch. Two thumbs up warm and crispy. Yum!! The wraps looked good as well. Well, lots of other things looked good on the menu. I only saw the wraps and will have to try one of those! This is such an underrated gem. Mayfair Taproom has a cozy, homey vibe. You can stop in to grab a hearty dinner or some good beer. Have driven my this place several times and finally made the choice to have a girls night dinner. There is plenty of street parking around and it's free which is a bonus. You order and pay at the bar. There isn't a huge menu but you can find something to eat without issue for sure. We sat outside and ate since it was nice out. The patio is very nice. They are kid friendly outside not sure about in the inside. Also dog friendly which is nice. The food overall was fine. Nothing overly exciting but not terrible just fine. The bartender was also just fine, he wasn't overly friendly but also didn't make us feel overly welcomed, however, the other patrons there were very friendly and we had some great conversations with the other guests. read more

We happen to come by during trivia on Sunday! They have a nice patio with dog bowls and high chairs. Street parking. Seating on patio but order at the bar. There is seating inside too. The charm that you see on the outside of Mayfair Taproom is exactly how you would picture it on the inside. It gives you the vibe of being in a different time zone, which is the point, I think. The service is great. You can either come in and grab a seat at the bar or sit indoors or outside the bar seating, divided by a long wooden barrier that holds the cushion benching. The owner, Alec, occasionally works behind the bar, and he and his wife own the taproom. The food is great--I got the chicken bites and a side of fries, and both were perfectly crispy. They have a nice selection of beers, both on draft and canned, including delicious canned sours (I had Teak). Prices are reasonable, averaging $7 for a beer, and the food is standard pricing. Kids are welcome, too! All in all, Mayfair Taproom is a great place to become a regular. read more

This is such a fun bar/restaurant! The atmosphere is a local pub/dive bar with a VHS decor spin. Right up my alley. Their menu is very much traditional bar foods but a ton of vegetarian and vegan options! Which is sooooo refreshing to see. I am always open to trying vegetarian options so I can also learn what I could make at home. I think they are known for their vegan gravy, they sell it in pints! We tried it and it was really good. I enjoyed that they do not have table service, BUT they do have a dedicated spot on the bar for table patrons to place food and drink orders. We had a fun time and great food at Mayfair. We stopped in for an early dinner and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted by one of the nice bartenders as soon as we sat down. She got us waters, and the other bartender poured our beers. They came and took our order and our food came real quick! It's a cool spot with awesome tile on the floor and a big bar. We had been out and about on the east side of Indy last night and were just looking for a place that was open. The first two places were closed, and when we resolved to just head back home we happened upon Mayfair. Parking was very easy at that time and when I stepped out of the car and I was just taken with all the lovely old homes that flanked the exterior of Mayfair. We went inside the very clean and subtly decorated dining and bar area. Most patrons, ( ok all of them) were younger than us, quite possibly locals, were on the other side of the wall that divided the dining room from the bar. So we ventured over and joined those in the bar area and got a two topper. We were greeted almost immediately by a very friendly bartender who handed us menus. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine while we glanced over the menu. Honestly, we weren't expecting much at that time of night but we ordered the fish and chips to share. It arrived within minutes. It was two small pieces with fries. We were slightly disappointed but not enough to not eat. WOW!!! It was perfectly cooked deliciousness! My husband and I scarfed that crunchy fish with that delicate, moist interior. It left us wanting more!! I will never share with my husband the next time. Now, if that was some box fish ordered from from some Costcoish establishment--well, it was damn good. I'm a bit jealous of those folks who get to have that pub within walking distance. The very eclectic combo of European, vintage, Yule, western, and probably about four other vibes smashed together for a rather fun and basic bar. No waiters, order at the bar and card is held, fantastic tap list, I sampled quite a bit and enjoyed the craft variety. Found two glorious brews at opposite ends, a sparkly sour and a bitter nitro right for my dinner and trivia. Amazing pineapple tart and glorious Old Rasputin nitro imperial stout, both too right. Trivia was random and awful, way too niche and difficult while also trying to be fun and friendly. I suppose the rotating hosts give that spectrum but I'd rather know what it'll be like over a clueless mash of impossible questions on limited topics. Food was a win! Most well priced, my burger was tasty though simple. Some additional pickled something would reach the extra mile. Chicken poppers were way too easy to eat. Mayfair is a fantastic neighborhood bar. If you're lucky it can be your neighborhood bar as well. Come to the near east side and hang out. The beer list goes on for days. All varieties of various local brews. They also have a full bar and can fix you up whatever you would like. The food is solid bar fare. The fish and chips are always on point. They also have a large variety of vegetarian options - I strongly recommend the cauliflower wings. The best thing about the folks at Mayfair is the folks at Mayfair. The service is awesome. The staff is always as friendly and attentive as can be. If you have a pup bring that good boy or girl on out to the patio and they will bring 'em water to stay hydrated. Pro tip. The beer menu is extensive with many local options, and Mayfair has a full bar as well. The food menu has a variety of options, with several vegetarian choices. The falafel burger was moist on the inside with crispy edges, and was dressed with feta cheese, tzatziki, pickled red onions, carrots, and arugula. So good! My good friend recommended this place to me and I was able to check it out last night with a group of friends. I was very impressed with the Mayfair Taproom ambiance and the bar itself. It definitely had a neighborhood bar type feeling to it, and it looked like a great place to hang out with friends to have a beer or a cocktail. The bar itself was very decorative and unique in style. The display of taps was very impressive and attractive looking. The bartender was professional and took care of our group, but he appeared to be discouraged and upset with me because we were leaving and I only had one beer. I was not aware at the time that we were not sticking around and going somewhere else, but it is what it is. He did appear to be a nice guy, and I'm sure he is great to talk to, so the next time I come to Mayfair Taproom, I'll be sure to hang out at the bar and get to know him better. They do serve food, but I did not get a chance to order anything or see the menu. From what I did see online, the food does look very good!! Overall, I can definitely see myself coming back to Mayfair Taproom on a regular basis to hang out with friends. It is very "homey" and laid back! read more

Par for the course I have heard of this place but never had the chance to go until recently. I needed a snack before a barter school class and didn't want fast food, so decided Mayfair was going to be my stop. Love the set up, it's on a corner so it has easy access and a back patio that I cannot wait for it to get consistently warmer so beers can be enjoyed outside. The inside is bright but not fluorescent, with a hogpadge of decorations! Huge beer list, lots of local beer which is never a bad thing, good selection on tap, and it bottles and cans. Selections of cocktails and wine as well for those who don't beer. Impressive food menu! I'll be back to try more of what I saw, good sandwiches. I love scotch eggs, so whenever I see them on a menu I have to try! I'm glad I had these, they were very tasty and you have the option of ranch (because middle america) or spicy mustard which is what I went with. This place.. everyone should know about it. One of my favorite go-to for either a pickup order or fun dinner with a friend. It's a great vibe inside - one of my favorite local places. Everyone is nice. Menu is small but doesn't matter because everything is so good. I usually opt for the burger or chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Must get the sweet potato fries. Grab one of your favorite brews on tap and order the cauliflower wings for an app. You will not be disappointed. I've been watching this location for a while and decided to take advantage of their new lunch time hours to stop by. So glad I did! After pulling into their small parking lot at the back of the building next to their back patio (they have street parking nearby too), I passed the bike racks along the sidewalk and stepped into the cozy dining room of Mayfair. I was immediately greeted by one of the owners who wished me a Happy Halloween. I decided to step to the left (west) half of the room which is the 21+ bar area and grabbed a seat at the stylish bar. The other owner brought me a beverage menu and a food menu to look over after greeting me. Talk about personality, Hilary was running the bar while co-owner Eric was taking care of a lot of the behind the scenes tasks. I felt welcome right away and found the setting to be quite comfortable. The lighting was warm and bright enough to read the menu. I decided to try one of their many drafts, most of which are local craft beers. I also chose the Turkey Melt with a side of Sweet Potato Fries (they also have a shareable appetizer with a sweet potato fry base, but I got the smaller 'stand alone' fries as a side.) The food and beer were served promptly and I was very pleased. The Turkey Melt comes with both American and Swiss cheese and they top it with their own house made Russian dressing. (Eric's friend runs the kitchen and developed the flavor combo for the sandwich.) The sandwich was sliced diagonally and was lightly toasted (grilled) to give a little crunch texture to the bite. Excellent flavor with just a hint of heat in the dressing. The fries were large and done just right...soft inside but no signs of grease or sogginess. Hilary took time to tell me the history of the building which is over 100 years old and has housed many businesses dating back to the jazz era in Indy. Fortunately, the new Mayfair Taproom owners were able to salvage the building (some work is still happening by the back door) and turn it into a beautiful local pub. The old Mayfair Tavern had a really long run at this location. I wish the new owners just as much success! Note: They have gender neutral restrooms with assistance rails and changing tables inside. Fish &Chips, Sheppard's Pie with a longneck of Lone Star and hummus and veggies for a starter. Everything was delicious and served at the right temperature. A comfy neighborhood feel to this place, the tile in the bar, the window booths and oh the beer selection. Even craft soda in many flavors. I wish I lived close enough to make this a weekly stop. Our Server, Elizabeth was able to share the buildings history and even asked for us about the spices in the Meat pie. It was that good. (Best wishes on the new job, Elizabeth). It's great to see this place finally open on E 10st Street after the community tried several attempts to activate this old building over the years. The owners, children of the owners of long time Indy restauranteurs, have put some nice touches in the place and maintained elements of the historic character. The beer selection, especially the draft selection was great. The food is reasonably priced and what I've had, has all been quality and tasty. I think the menu could be a bit longer, but overall they have good options. As we wrapped up dinner on a Monday, we found out trivia was about to start at which they give gift card prizes- so keep that in mind trivia people!
