This review is the sum total of two vastly different experiences. One was a five star review…read moreencounter at this Computer Shop. The other was so bad that I don't think I'll return. The Good: I came by because my computer and my brother's computer weren't working. The employee quickly diagnosed the problems, walked me through his thought process, and had me out and on my way within the 1/2 hour. I left feeling valued and empowered with knowledge. The Ugly: This shop advertises cellphone screen repair. Usually I do this myself; however, one of my tools had broken and I didn't want to wait for the replacement to come in the mail. AVOID PHONE REPAIR. I dropped my iPhone off around noon. I was informed that they would contact me when the crack in my screen was fixed. I know that a screen replacement isn't a time intensive task; so, when I hadn't heard anything after a few hours, I thought I'd call to see where my item was in the queue. As it turns out, the phone had already been examined. They did not have the proper tools to fully replace the screen and I was informed I could pick up the phone. This should have been communicated to me sooner. When I went to pick up the phone I found that in the process of examining it, they had broken the home button. After sticking around to inquire about this, I was told they could not fix this. In addition, they misplaced one of the screws to open the phone. It's not a huge deal, but it's a slight discoloration and it will be noticeable when I bring it in to the Apple store for an actual repair. This error has resulted in extreme inconvenience and increased cost, as the price for a screen and home button replacement is significantly more expensive now that I have to take it to the Apple store. The only saving grace is that I wasn't charged for this ordeal. The employees definitely know what they're talking about when it comes to computer hardware. Don't come here for cellphones. There was no remedy offered for the mistake made. I understand that mistakes happen when it comes to making repairs. A hand slips, a screw gets lost--okay. An apology and some kind of remedy go a long way to ensuring that a customer doesn't feel taken advantage of.

Thus, the long distance relationship my computers have with Chris. Chris updated my MacBook Pro with some more memory and fixed a battery issue it had. I went from feeling angsty whenever I had to use it to literally feeling happy. It runs so well that I feel happy whenever I use it, so whatever magic he did has made my MacBook amazing. It's an older model, but it feels new now. While working on my laptop, Chris communicated every step of the way. He let me know when the parts were ordered, when they arrived, and when he was planning on installing the parts. He also gave me step-by-step progress on the shipping. Once it arrived, he had me boot it up to make sure everything looked good to me. It was clear he set aside some time on the delivery date just in case I needed to troubleshoot anything with him. It had restarted so many times that some security feature was preventing all logins. First, they had to solve the login problem by cracking Windows security. Then they ran diagnostic tests that revealed RAM faults, requiring a new motherboard. In a few days, the new motherboard arrived, and now the computer is back home and working perfectly. This is the same sort of experience I've had before with the Computer Technology Center, so I was not surprised. Their office is open--they don't take your machine to another room. They'll do the diagnosis right in front of you. If the repair is simple, they'll make the repair while you watch. This openness gives one great confidence in their work. The price for the work was very reasonable. I hope I don't have another computer failure soon, but when I do, there's no question where I will go.

I had the unfortunate experience of opening a evite dinner invitation attachment on an email from a known acquaintance which turned out to be a Remote Access Trojan (RAT). I tried several times to clean my hard drive with Nord VPN Threat Malware and Malwarebytes programs which found nothing. A backdoor was established on my laptop and I could see the intruder's mouse pointer navigating throughout my laptop while my mouse pointer was disabled. The only solution to stop it was to sever the internet connection. The issue persisted for several days when I would reconnect the internet. The intruder wasn't always present but I could see when they were. The intruder got into my Google password manager, Quicken account and attempted to make Amazon purchases. I was running out of airspeed and ideas and recognized that I needed professional assistance. I researched locally for an I.T. firm and found Will Get IT Done. I met with Will who examined my 7 year old laptop and he recommended I simply replace it as the cost to wipe it clean/replace the hard drive and reload would be comparable to a replacement. Although working just fine prior to the intrusion, given the age of my laptop I took Will's advice and purchased a new laptop. Will and Nicholas transferred all of my clean files from the old to the new laptop in their lab leaving the RAT in the old hard drive. I am now back in great shape. I contacted the business online and received a text AND voicemail an hour or so later. When I called back and spoke to Steve, he and I had such a great conversation about computers. He gave me his address and I took the laptop to him. Imagine my surprise to receive a video by text only 20 minutes later, telling me his diagnosis! The hard drive was kaput. He said he could install a new one for me and we discussed some options about buying one. As it turned out, I recalled that I had purchased an extended warranty which would cover a replacement. So he thanked me for my business and said I could pick it up anytime.
