My Dell XPS laptop hard drive was bricked because of BitLocker (well, I couldn't find the BL passkey). Was fearing that I would need a new SSD hard drive. Took it down to Eman @ PCTECH on Van Nuys Blvd. Eman communicated very clearly and quite clinically about the prognosis: 80% chance it's THIS, 20% chance it's THAT. I very much appreciated him telling me my options first off--no surprises. I knew that he could do his best to decrypt the drive and save me $$$. Two hours later I picked up the laptop. He was able to decrypt the drive and a new SSD was not needed. You can really tell that Eman loves his work. He took pictures of the innards of my laptop (battery, fan, motherboard). Eman showed me that my laptop battery is swelling and needs to be replaced before the motherboard is impacted. On the laptop, he placed 3 different webpages for me to order a replacement battery. WOW! I didn't have to look up the battery number to get the proper version. Also, he knew I could change it myself and didn't try to upsell me. Straight-up gentleman, Eman is! I don't wish for any more computer issues, but if I do, I know Eman is my #1 guy. You can trust him and his prices are more than fair (as I have repaired my own computers in the past). My Story: Let me start by saying that I originally took my MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro to Geek Squad at Best Buy for an issue, but after wasting 100 bucks they made my Laptop worse, as it did not turn on anymore. Found this amazing repair shop that helped me with repairing not only the power issue, but they also fixed the USB issue I was having with my device. My Experience: This shop is situated on Van Nuys Boulevard, and Kalifa on the corner. The entrance is on Van Nuys Boulevard, do not park in the rear, as that is private parking for the other businesses. As soon as I walked in, the PC Technician at the front, Eman S, was already working with a client, but kindly greeted me as I walked in and that he would be with me shortly. As he finished with his first client, he asked me what my issue was, and after a short story, he had a clear idea of what the issue could be, and advised me that it sounds like it could be a hardware issue, which Geek Squad told me was a software issue was completely wrong. He told me the price for the diagnostic and if he could get it repaired what the estimated final cost could be, he also asked me how soon I needed it back, and I told him anytime withing 7 days was fine. Eman called me two days later (great time-frame), to inform me that he successfully repaired my laptop and for me to come pick up my device. As I got there, he insisted that I test all the aspects of my laptop to make sure that the service was completed. To my surprise during the test, I saw that my USB ports were working again, as it did not work before. Prices: $35.00 - Diagnostics $195.00 - Repair (If successfully completed he would deduct the diagnostic price) ------------------------- $160.00 - Final Price for completely fixing my laptop Lastly, thank you to Eman for completely fixing my laptop, I was worried that my $1400 device would have gone down the trash after just two short years, but now it works like new. You never realize how much you can change someone's life by how you treat them/how well you do your job. Let's just say, the reason why I got into UCLA was because Eman was able to recover my essays and other admissions materials I had been working on for months from my fried computer. I brought my failing Dell laptop in because it was running incredibly slow. I use it for worship service displays and it crashed right in the middle of the service ... not good! I would think a business wanting a repeat customer would just apply the extra $45 to the original $175 repair since this wasn't a big fix but oh well. Plus a very high pressure salesman. I had a serious problem with a computer (IBUYPOWER) and after the company told me that the only solution was to buy a new computer because they no longer made parts or even kept records on the one I had paid a couple of thousand dollars for five years ago I started hunting through YELP and came across PCTECH. I was amazed at how many customers thought Eman and his team were computer gods. Somewhat dubious, I called Eman. His place kind of looked like a hole in the wall but it was only a few miles away. The one thing that all the tech support people at IBUYPOWER told me was that my motherboard had a damaged sound card. IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. There was a thin chance that if I went to the right place and got lucky - someone who knew a great deal about computers (Think Bill Gates) "might" find the right sound card and a workaround could result. I was on the phone with them for about two hours. Anyway, I took the computer to Eman and he asked me several questions and said - "your Windows needs to be reinstalled." "And then can you find a sound card for me?" Eman said that fixing Windows would cure the motherboard. At that point he had not turned on the computer or opened it up. I figured he might be mentally unbalanced but he seemed quite sure of himself. He quoted me $120 and said he would have my computer ready in 12 hours. "And, if it doesn't work and I have to buy a sound card, how much will you charge me?" I asked. "$35 and you'll have Windows reinstalled and your computer will run about five times as fast as it does now. This computer should be good for another ten years if you keep it clean and do regular maintenance on it. It does not need a sound card." "Got yourself a deal," I said. Now to be honest, I figured that since I had to buy a new computer anyway, if Eman told me he couldn't fix it and charged me $35 I would just run out the door and he could keep the stupid thing. I came back the next day and the sound worked perfectly. The computer ran better than the day I got it and I saved about $2,000. I am in a state of shock. read more

My power dc jack on my netbook broke and needed to be replaced. Fortunately I am experienced in computer repair so after ordering and receiving a replacement power jack, I set to fix it but somehow the precision screwdrivers I had weren't cutting it and I needed five more screws out to get to the motherboard. In need of some assistance, I picked this place out trusting my fellow yelpers. Boy, was I in for a surprise. I called this place and after explaining that I just needed a few screws out, I was told, "No problem, just come by." Excited to hear they would help me out, I picked up my netbook at home and went straight to this repair shop to finally get those darn last screws removed. After waiting a minute or two (there was one person in front of me) I let them know when it was my turn what I was there for. As soon as I told them, one of their guys quickly grabbed a couple of their screwdrivers and went straight to work. It took only 10 seconds to take them out, and at first I was really happy and thankful that they helped me out. What kind people, my fellow yelpers were right! Oops, WRONG. Next thing I know, the guy asks me for payment. "What payment? All you did was remove a few tiny screws," I said. Them: "No, we did work for you, so you must pay us." Me: "Really? I thought you were just helping me out, it was only five screws. Plus, you never said anything about a charge." Them: "No, we spent time helping you, so you owe us money." Me: "Those few seconds, really? Why didn't you warn me before?" I couldn't believe it. He never warned me about the cost of removing five screws, which I wouldn't had agreed to because I could've just gone to a store and bought another set. Nonetheless, he insisted on immediate payment and after telling him I refused to pay because of his miscommunication, he actually threatened to call the police. REALLY?! We argued more and more until I finally gave him $6, the only cash I had. Unbelieveable. This place is run by the rudest guy on the planet, and I will NEVER go to this place again. read more
