Marty and Michelle with PDX Electric are fantastic to deal with. We redid our basement and put in 17 main lights, two pendants, a stair sconce, two smoke detectors and multiple outlets. They came and did clean great work and their work crew were super nice and respectful. We did not hesitate to leave them home while we went to work. Even when I had what I thought we had what was a big issue Marty calmly walked me through solutions and I am confident that had we not gone with a pro company like this we would have ended up regretting our choice. Solid work but I found them overbooked and communicating between owner, electrician and front desk girls was always a challenge. I was referred by a friend who had used them. Having spent around $10K with PDX redoing an old house's electrical, I felt I was in good hands most of the way. Our electrician, Dave was great. But the admin side of it left me confused and frustrated. I booked a follow up visit months later for something small and they accepted the appointment but told me it would be 3 months! A few days before this long awaited date, I received an email telling me all the reasons why I was an undesirable client and how I should find another electrician. I was very surprised at this, and after reading their long description of events I realized there were some huge misunderstandings on both sides. This final interaction left me disappointed at the overall professionalism, communication and follow through of the business side of PDX Electric. There is no doubt they are great at what they do but if you value all phases of hiring an electrical contractor, beware my experience: they charmed me to get the job and did great work but they were incredibly overbooked and communication with the owner and front desk girls was rude, slow and created many misunderstandings. UPDATE: After 7 months, new bank of lights PDX installed in my attic failed. I played with the switch and it blinks on briefly so might be a bad light switch (it was presumably new when installed). I don't have the will to deal with them any further but normally I would call a vendor I had paid hard-earned money to and ask them to please guarantee their work within 1 year. read more

You can even select 'troubleshooting' on the drop down as a reason why to contact you for a free estimate. I'm going to someone else who doesn't rely on deceptive business tactics. I have been very frustrated by PDX Electric's failure to communicate and ultimate, mysterious refusal to do the project they gave us an estimate for. On May 28, Marty came by our house to do an estimate on installing can lights in our kitchen and miscellaneous projects to prepare our house for sale. He was very personable and gave us a reasonable estimate, so my husband called him and left a voicemail asking him to do our project. He never heard back from Marty and proceeded to leave two more voicemails to no avail. On June 24, we finally reached a woman in his office, and my husband chatted with her about the project and some changes we were thinking about the scope of the project. On June 25, however, we received a cryptic email from Marty informing us that "due to unforeseen circumstances," he would not be able to do our project. If he wasn't interested in our project or had personal matters to attend to, he could have told us three weeks ago so we could have moved on with our lives. Instead, we wasted a bunch of time because we thought he was going to do the work for us. I'm sure he's a very good electrician, based on all of the positive reviews, but I think he treated us unprofessionally by failing to return voicemails and blowing off our project. read more

They came out to fix a motion sensor light. The tech called me 1.5 hours before the scheduled appointment window and told me he was at my house. I cut everything short and hurried home after giving him directions on what needed to be done. He left to pick up parts and came back about an hour later. When he was finished he handed me a burned out bulb and told me I needed to pick one up and change it myself. The light still doesn't work. The bill was almost $400. This included a $65 minor permit fee. (Either the government or the company is ripping me off on this one.) I wasn't provided a number for the permit and when I called the office was told that he had "run out" of stickers and one would be sent to me. I need to put it on the electrical panel. The light still isn't working. read more

Electricity generally scares the crap out of me, as I've been shocked enough times to know not to mess with it if I don't know what I'm doing. But I've replaced enough light fixtures myself to feel comfortable putting in this new light fixture that I'd bought from Ikea. However, when I took the old fixture out and got ready to put the new fixture in, I noticed the new fixture had no screw on the bracket for the ground wire. So, I started making some calls and since it was after 6pm, was getting voice mail after voice mail. A web search brought up elocalelectricians.com, which says that you can get a quote from five different companies after you fill out the form. So, I filled out the form and within seconds I get a call from Marty at PDX Electric. I explained to him the problem and what my concern was. He let me know that he wouldn't be able to get out to my house until tomorrow afternoon. And not only that, but even though it was a very small, simple job, he was required to charge their minimum fee for an hour and, in addition, the city has some kind of fee that they tack on to it. So, for this one simple job it was going to cost me $179. He knew it was outrageous, but I'm sure he also knew that he had me over a barrel, since I've got bare wires hanging out of the ceiling, and I can't install the new light, and the old one is falling apart in my hands. I was pretty much stuck. But instead of taking the easy money and making me wait until tomorrow afternoon, he suggested that I take a picture of the situation and text it to him, and maybe he'd be able to walk me through it. Keep in mind, this is after hours, and he's off work. That offer alone, is amazing, but to be willing to take time to do that after he's already closed up shop and is busy with his own life is nothing short of incredible. So, I take the picture, text it to him, and a few seconds later, he calls. He explains to me what I need to do, that it should be no problem. I do what he says, the light is installed. and I haven't spent a dime. And Marty hasn't made one. Yet he took the time and effort to help me out. That's the kind of service you think doesn't exist anymore, but it still does with these guys. I know that if and when I do have a job that needs an electrician, I won't hesitate to call PDX Electric. read more

We had several estimates and PDX electric by far got the work done, quickly, efficiently and was thee most affordable. I waited to get our inspection done before I wrote a review as it was too good to be true. We had installation of many receptacles throughout the house and panel breaker installation. Buyer beware- there are some electric companies out there that will nickle and dime you (more like $50-$150), if you leave a piece of furniture in the way or if you split the job. This is not common. PDX electric did not do any of this. Description Of Work: Replaced circuit breaker, switch, outdoor box, installed GFI, rain cover, found problem for short circuit. Also reparied an indoor GFCI recepticle which was not working properly. When the heavy rain came, we could not turn our outdoor lights on without tripping the circuit breaker. I attempted to troubleshoot the issue myselt, but stopped once I could no longer re-set the breaker. I researched several reputable sources, including Angies list, for electricians and chose PDX Electric. I called on a Thursday, and they set me up with an appointment on Monday morning with an 8-10 am window. A live person answered the phone, and was very professional, friendly, and helpful. On Monday morning the van pulled up to my house at 08:00am sharp. The electrician introduced himself, and was also very professional and friendly. He was mindful to not wear shoes on the carpet. I explained the problem to him, and he immediately assessed the situation. He worked quickly, but carefully. He found a few problems which did not surprise me. The main issue was some buried electrical wire that someone taped off at the ends. This was shorting out. Also, the switch did not seem to be working properly. An electrical box was half buried in the dirt and needed to be replaced. I was so glad that he found the proplems, and fixed them properly. All of this work was completed in a little less than 2 hours. I am very pleased with the work, and would use them in the future. I would highly recommend them. -Chad read more

I had PDX Electric come out for a "small" residential electric project. They did not treat it like a small project. Within a day of my initial phone inquiry, they came out to inspect and estimate the project. They were able to turn around and provide me with an estimate within 48 hrs. While they were at my house for the initial meeting, they made sure to fully inform me of the nature of the work requested, the cost for various options, and the potential risk of sheet rock damage and dust. Best of all, their estimate was very competitive and accurate (no unexpected surprises or extras), and they were confident enough to stand behind their price. When they came out for the project, they were incredibly professional, efficient, and communicative throughout the project. We were very impressed with the results. I moved into a new house and when the washer and dryer delivery guys showed up they informed me they couldn't set up the machines because the electrical source was the wrong type of plug (50 amps versus 30). I called PDX Electric and they were able to fit me in later that day, happily. (I should note here their phone person was extremely helpful and was the one who called me back when they had a same-day opening). Their guy came out, fixed the problem, and also fixed a couple of other minor things (converted our kitchen outlets to GFCI, fixed a double-breaker in our fuse box) -- the price was great considering everything he did and how quickly he finished. As new and first time home owners with a home built in the 1950's we knew there would be some projects that we simply could not do without calling in the professionals. To our dismay, it wasn't so easy to find the professionals or get them to call you back. That was until I found PDX Electric. Marty and his office staff were awesome! When I called in to set up our initial estimate the office was able to schedule a time quickly that fit our schedule. Marty was informative and understood our concerns for keeping cost down and wrote the estimate with options to include dream options and less expensive ones so we were able to build a package that worked for our budget. A family friend who is an electrician (not locally) reviewed the estimate for us and assured us the price was very competitive and even saying he personally would have charged us more. Our project was estimated to take 2 days and the team was early both days and finished in a day and 3 hours the following day. They cleaned up after themselves and were gracious about our yapping little dogs. Next summer we'll be adding some more outdoor lighting in our backyard and I will without a doubt be calling PDX Electric to help us. I had lost power to a few rooms in my upstairs. No breakers were tripped. Called PDX electric and they were able to find someone to come out the same day. Dave showed up within the window of time quoted. Then within minutes, he found a GFCI outlet hidden behind a dresser that had tripped. Since that GFCI wasn't protecting any outlets near water, he gave me some good advice on how to fix the issue and a few other wiring problems in my old house. Very friendly guy! We got quotes from a few well known and recommended (from friends) contractors in the Portland area and they all gave me these really high quotes (with minimal explanation). The other contractors took apart our electrical panel and told us about the type of wiring we had and they seemed really trustworthy and emphasized the work that needed to be done. PDX Electric sent a guy to our house asked what the problem was and took a look. After the PDX representative assessed the situation he clicked the breaker a couple of times and suddenly the light, which had been off for a few days (and been taken apart by and examined by the other "electricians" we had been recommended) turned back on and he stated there was no problem with our current box and we did not need any work done urgently. He explained that our particular box is notorious for having a sticky breaker and people often think they reset it but have not. PDX reassured us that although our box is a bit older it is still a good box and the breakers seem to be functioning within their parameters (you would think that the other contractors would have checked breakers too and not started in on the hard selling and offering quotes). We asked PDX for quotes anyway and they offered us price breakdowns which were not offered to us by the other contractors. Ultimately we decided to get our box replaced with new grounding rods (which is something all the contracting companies contacted agreed on although PDX explained it best) and the guy PDX sent out to do the work fixed our basement light too, everything took about a day. The city inspector came out a few days later and complemented the work done and placed his sticker of approval, no problems or anything. PDX Electric gave us options when the other electrical contractors did not. We will most likely be calling them again if we have more electrical work to be done at our house. read more

These guys made it easy to get an estimate via email, came out for a free on site visit to ensure the job could be done correctly, did the job quickly and in the time planned (and cleaned up after themselves... thanks Dave!), and called in for the inspection which happened as requested, the following afternoon. We needed some work done in the garage which were a bit out of my league and required a professional's touch. We called, emailed, messaged a number of electricians without much luck in getting a reply or a call back - most said they were booked two weeks out and they didn't offer much more. I felt the initial quote was fair so we scheduled the work a few weeks out. To our surprise they called us up and said they had a cancellation so they could fit us in in just a few days. They are now on my contact list for an electrician because they were fast, friendly, and did a great job. I just bought a home that needed some electrical work done before we moved in. I had 4 other electricians out to bid on the job before I called PDX Electric. I found Marty to be punctual, honest and fair on pricing. He took the time to double check on what the other electricians had told me (come to find out, they were mistaken) and he pointed out that I needed to move my meter. I am a little late in writing this review. Also I am a non typer so any mistakes need to be forgiven I had an outdoor outlet that tripped and could not be reset. Jim, from PDX came out and couldn't have been nicer and professional. A friend who is a painting contractor was here during that time and was equally impressed, Jim handled the problem as well as alerted me to other issues that dated back to the homes construction. In no way did he try to create work for himself. He took the time to outline in detail on the receipt what issues were found so that if I did go to the builder an accurate record would be available. Started the day with a sizzling and sparking circuit in my fuse box. NOT FUN! Petrified of hiring a money hungry electrician, so I found these guys on yelp with great reviews. Thought I would give em a try. Customer service was extremely friendly and attentive, making sure the electrician got back with me ASAP considering my situation. Sent the electrician pics of my fuse box and he came out to fix it in a flash!! Quite surprising since he was with another project apparently not in the area. From the pics he seemed to already know what was going on and fixed the situation within 5 minutes!! He was completely aware that my business depended on that darn fuse and made it a point to go clear cross town to help out. I had PDX Electric troubleshoot some vanity outlets that were not working as well as install a new electrical box for a media cabinet. Marty was very professional and responded promptly when I filled out a web inquiry. Even though they mostly work Mon-Fri, they had one of their electricians come over on a Saturday morning. Dave was easy to work with, patient, and took the time to explain what he was doing and answer all of my questions. What was thought to have just been an old faulty GFI turned out to require more extensive troubleshooting. Dave was very methodical in partitioning different parts of the circuit to narrow down the problem. It turns out that when the previous homeowner redid the roofing, they accidentally drove a nail through one of the wires in the attic, causing it to constantly trip the GFI. Half an inch either way, the nail would have missed the wire. Finally, installing a new electrical box on a new circuit went fairly quickly, and Dave also fixed some awkward wiring done by the previous homeowner's bathroom renovation. I needed a new electrical panel because I was having a hot tub delivered. Reviews on Yelp are correct: these guys ROCK! Marty (owner) was super attentive and was out for a bid a few hours after I called. We scheduled work a few days later. Marty was here to meet Pacific Power which required my mast being moved closer to the street. I had 3 guys plus Marty working in my house all day. Permits, of course, were pulled by PDX Electric. Lynn, Cory, Marty were super professional, courteous and even checked in on me (it's a bit stressful hearing all the clanging) as they were here from 7:45-4 PM but got it all done in one day, including filling up my hot tub for me when I had to leave. Completely reasonably priced and super honest. I would hire Marty's company again: 1) because of Marty, 2) because of the amazing craftsmanship working within the areas required, 3) because of his friendly staff both in-house and in the field. It was as small job of switching scones on 2 rooms, he cleaned up after with a vacuum and removed dust/debris on the walls after the switch. Scheduling was great as well. Marty was great with giving options for estimate and recommending ways we could save money on supplies and work (like taking a fan to get a motor fixed rather than getting a new one). Dave and team made sure everything was done right. One GFCI outlet turned out to be bad within a couple weeks and they sent someone back out and replaced it within a couple days. Kiely was fantastic providing information and scheduling all these pieces including the electrical inspection for the County.
