Peace Café has been my go-to for years and truly remains one of the best vegan spots on Oʻahu. The variety is incredible -- sandwiches, wraps, noodles, smoothies, plates, soups, and specialty drinks. One of my longtime favorites is their Yuzu Lemonade, but I think the new Aloha Energy Drink may have officially taken the top spot. It has medical-grade beet powder, natural caffeine from guarana, ginseng, and maca -- and you genuinely feel the aloha and the power. Today I ordered the spicy Yakisoba, and the noodles had the perfect bite and mouthfeel. The salad was fresh and crisp, and while I personally could handle quite a bit more spice, I appreciate that they balance the heat so it's enjoyable and approachable for everyone without overpowering the dish. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is always welcoming. The chef is consistently friendly, the staff is kind, and the restaurant is always clean. They have really good food and I like the shop but, their customer service needs improvement. The last couple times I went there they messed up!! Today I went to pick up my online order and then the young cashier lady gave my order to the guy in front of me who was waiting for his order. She didn't check correctly if it was really his order, so he took it and left. When they realized what happened, they rushed to make my order again. She tried to pretend that she didn't know what happened. Hello, I was there watching what happened the whole time!!! No sorry, "just please wait...." I had to wait another 20-30 minutes for my food to be made. I asked them what happened and the owner or manager just said "we made a mistake...." Smh!! They should have given me something for compensation... The other time I went there over a year ago a different cashier lady forgot something in my order and I had to go back and get my missing item... smh!!! The time before that a cashier didn't know how to do basic math and gave me back my change when I gave her change so I could get a dollar bill back...... smh!!!! I got the tofu katsu curry and they gave me extra potato katsu for free since I paid more than $10. The potato katsu tasted like beer, so I wasn't a fan. The rest of my meal was fine, but the katsu wasn't fried enough so it wasn't crispy and everything else was okay. I expected better, especially with such a long walk commute each way. They also use AI artwork for specials (especially sweets), and don't seem to be familiar with allergens. The sweets they do have are frozen, and a lady at the table next to me tried to eat them but they were too frozen to eat. I don't think I'll come back. read more

I came here on a Saturday night. It wasn't too busy. I was able to order my food and find a seat with no issues. Food: I ordered the katsu plate with half tofu katsu and half tempeh katsu. I had not been here before so I wanted to try both. The portion was pretty good.Both katsus were delicious. I don't think I had a preference over either of them! The breading was also pretty good. The katsu sauce was delicious. Service: Service was quick and easy. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. Food didn't take too long to arrive. Mochi brownies displayed alluringly on the counter did look like an awfully attractive lunch option, but the savory dishes are worth holding out for. Before ever setting foot in the shop, I already knew that I wanted the Heart and Seoul entree: Inspired by Korean bibimbap, a power plate of greens, both raw and cooked, bean sprouts, shredded carrots, and either fresh tofu or TVP over a bed of brown rice. Ever indecisive, I stood there hemming and hawing at the counter, until the cashier helpfully broke my strained silence. "I could get you a little bit of both, too- How about that?" she asked sweetly. Yes, please; I felt like I really could have it all in that moment. Both were utterly delightful, but being the tofu-lover that I am, I would spring for a full portion of only that silky-soft bean curd next time. Topped off with a healthy dollop of very mild gochujang to mix and mash at will, the diner has the freedom to mix in as much of that salty paste as their heart desires. I regularly visit Peace Cafe whenever I need to pick up food for my vegan family and friends. Although I had never personally tried the food before, everyone I have ordered for has always been extremely happy with their meals and speaks highly of the quality and flavor. Recently, I stopped by to pick up lunch for a friend who was leaving the island and ordered two half tofu sandwiches--one for my friend and one so I could finally try it myself. I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised. The tofu sandwich was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. We had this vegan cafe bookmarked and were finally able to stop by today for lunch. Got their famous Katsu curry plate and an Avo-veggie sandwich both of which were great. The portions are also huuugeee and totally reflect their prices. Although we did want to try some desserts, we were stuffed from just the two entrees and had to skip it. Finding peace... Love this cute and cozy spot right in Moili'ili as this vegan restaurants supports many specific types and having allergies myself knowing that is comforting and who doesn't want to have a meal without worries. Nothing is healthier than home cooked but when you're tired and just want to be take care of this place does offer many options from vegan, gluten free, soy free and even some sugar free desserts. Located right on South King Street right beside the Old Stadium Park they do have some parking shared with neighbor Chiang Mai though I was lucky enough to find street metered parking right in front. Waling into this cozy spot which is very small yet does provide a decent amount of seating from a large picnic table with a few smaller tables the decor with painted tree is very earthy green is quite crafty and cute which I do love making it unique in it's own way just like their menu items which has a lot going on with pics at the register of inure, mapo katsu. The single staff handling it all was very sweet and helpful as I was indecisive between Yakisoba and Noodle Salad and was told that those were favorite as well...hmmm so it was the salad because I love the various toppings it came with and it sure does! All packed tightly on top of the noodles which is thick and chewy cooked and cooled perfectly I loved it all the hijiki, carrots, red cabbage, moyashi, slice of tomato gave it the rainbow effect. I saw my boss eating something from Peace Cafe at work one day and it looked super good so I had to go try! Honestly, I was very impressed. ***What I ordered ~ **Katsu Curry Tempeh (10/10) ~ This one is a MUST. Loved how crispy the tempeh was and if you dip it with the curry it gave it a nice spice! The rice they provided was this purple rice and it was nice and fluffy! Honestly, this comes pretty close to a Katsu Curry. I would totally get this again. **Moroccan Stew (8/10) ~ The stew kind of reminds me of a sweeter beef stew! Loved that the chick peas absorbs the stew flavor so every bite you get tastes like the stew. I wish I ordered a side of something with it! It's missing a "meat" component to it. This place is awesome! I am pescatarian, but always appreciate vegan food and this one is phenomal. I've ordered the katsu curry and teriyaki tofu as well as the pancake breakfast. The katsu curry protein is a bit tough, but that is my only complaint about my experiences here. Curry sauce is delicious and I'm obsessed with the teriyaki tofu. Fresh veggies on the side complete the dish. The pancakes were a masterful construction, both fluffy and dense, served with syrup and vegan butter. Tofu scramble was better than most standard eggs I eat and I could not believe how similar the vegan spam was to the real deal (coming to Hawai'i and not being able to stuff my face with musubis has been so tough). I picked up one of my orders and the interior is very cute! Will continue ordering every time I find myself in HNL. read more

Outside of the prices for what would be understandably high quality ingredients this place is an easy always stop if you're craving plant based food. They're one of the few places on island that make vegan food fun that isn't at home and continue to refine speed and give heaping portions. I miss when they were sub 20 bucks but understand inflation hit everyone like a bus. My favorites are the katsu plate, the smoothies which change every so often since I left the rock and the lattes like today I had a mulberry that while not as berry flavored as I thought was clean and super refreshing on a day like today. The mini size of the sandwhich was already a generous serving and kept me full. They don't skimp out though and the sandwich is packed with yummy veggies and peanut sauce. This was a cute tiny cafe with friendly workers. Parking was difficult to find though, and there was a drunk homeless man that kept entering the cafe and harassing a man waiting outside for his order. The owners repeatedly had to chase him out. Not oily or greasy, and accompanied by bright, crisp vegetables. The menu has a variety of sweet and savory options. Prices are $16 - $20 after tax, most items are priced competitively. What I didn't like: parking can be tight during peak hours. Their katsu, while delicious, goes heavy on breading unlike a traditional katsu cutlet. What can be improved: my biggest nit-pick is the thick katsu breading. Thinner, crispier breading would take the tofu and tempeh katsu to the next level. What's the competition: few business are in Peace Cafe's niche. Juicy Brew in Kaimuki is roughly similar, but gives smaller portions at a similar price. This was a last minute addition for me to try and good lord I am so happy I swung by. Don't get me wrong, the food culture in Honolulu is amazing but it was exceedingly hard to find much vegetarian or vegan katsu at all so I knew this place was the perfect spot to satisfy my craving. I went by around noon on a weekday and ordered a katsu curry to go -- you can choose between tofu, tempeh, or half and half! I wanted to try both so half and half it was. The food came out piping hot in about 10 minutes with the curry in a separate container to be added; aka no soggy katsu here! Visually stunning, but gosh if I only I could describe the CRUNCH of that first katsu bite. It was so hard for me to choose tempeh vs tofu because both were so good and so crunchy. And the curry was a comforting river of goodness as well. I loved every portion of this place including the salads and greens and the mixed rice which was cooked to perfection. The prices are totally reasonable for the taste, quality, and amount of food you get and I literally want to go back and try every single other item on their menu after this. I was intrigued by the cooler which had some noodles, mochi, ice cream goods so you know I may need to return to try that as well. Parking in the area is street parking but not too hard. I was concerned about hygiene during my visit. While my sandwich was being prepared, I observed the employee scratch both sides of her face with her bare hands. Her facial skin appeared discolored and visibly flaking while she was scratching. She then immediately continued preparing my sandwich without washing her hands. This raised serious food safety concerns and made me uncomfortable. I have been a loyal customer of Peace Cafe for over 25 years and have always appreciated both the food and the service. Recently, however, it seems that staffing challenges have affected the overall experience. Very small and very busy, call ahead if you don't want to wait! The bathroom is located outside: you can also enter through the back. It doesn't have their name so it's the net entrance. I ordered the heart and soul: 1/2 and 1/2 a Korean bibimbap. My absolute favorite dish here! So many veggies and you mix it up! PLEASE READ MY REVIEW and you won't regret it! I'll be very honest, almost felt like we were scammed. What a mood spoiler- don't get swayed about the looks of the restaurant/ the plating. I am not sure how the reviews are good here. The curries or everything was canned or basically ready mixes. The Moroccan chickpea was nothing but tomato sauce(also weirdly sweet) and mostly canned chickpea or just boiled chickpeas. I am not kidding the receptionist said the curry is new everyday and today it has potatoes and tofu, a Japanese style yellow curry- but it was just a premade curry mix. Also, how they serve in paper plates and you've to throw it, you go order stuff at the counter. Then why is the minimum expected tip 15% ? All they do is come serve the 5 min recipe food. We'd also wiped the table ourselves anyway. The mushroom miso soup was pretty salty and tasted better. I guess miso soups are expected to be like that and no complains about the 8 ounce soup. Ok, we decided to go back to Peace Cafe, because we were too early for the 6:30pm free street parking. Ok, go around the block...we got parking in the back of the building. + I was driving. Hahaha. We got there, greeted by a smile from the associate placed our wonderful order,Americano coffee. Was so good. The Katsu is fried Tofu .. crispy, sprouts, cucumber, sauce and katsu sauce on a warm crispy bread. The Peace Plate is a variety of goodness. We have left overs...
