My best friend and I have consistently gone to this location of Peaceful Restaurant for 4 years since the beginning of our degree. This is our comfort restaurant! There is always a lot of seating and we usually choose the booth. Every single time, we order the something with the moo shu pork and it ALWAYS satisfy -- I highly recommend this if you're able to eat meat. The food arrives relatively quickly. We are two small girls and we manage to finish our two orders to share every time. It really is that yummy. We have gone enough times that the workers are familiar with us. We didn't get our meal til 6:30. They value their take out business over their dine in. Next time we will order take out instead. My best friend and I have been coming here for dinner over the last 3yrs as incoming UBC students. It's become a fun tradition of ours, which we enjoy greatly. The food has only ever been delicious and the service fast. Dishes are perfect portions to share, 2-3 dishes for the 2 of us depending on how hungry we are. We have been getting take-out from this restaurant the last 5-6 years. The food was good and service fast. We picked up a meal last night and the food was bad. The hot and sour soup was bland, not very sour. The crispy beef dish was terrible. The batter was stodgy and there was hardly any meat and what there was could not be easily identified. Where do I even begin? I was really looking forward to trying this place since it was featured on Diners, drive-ins, and dives and I used to watch it religiously! With that said, I'm super disappointed by the quality of the food and the service Service was subpar and it wasn't even busy - I had ordered Dan Dan noodles with round noodles instead of thick ones and they brought it out knowing very well that they had my order wrong - if they knew, why not just fix it right? I know this for a fact, because even before putting my noodles down, the server said the cook put in the wrong type of noodles instead and just placed the bowl on the table - didn't even give me a chance to talk. I'm not picky so I just let it go. But I thought the principle was wrong there. As well, the servers kinda stood at one spot and getting their attention was a bit difficult despite the place not being busy Dan Dan noodles - to me, the flavours did not go well together. Yes I tasted the nutty, and the tangy aspects of it but it was separated. As well, the tanginess was overwhelming. It was really salty also Chicken pan fried dumplings - I was told they don't have pork dumplings on the weekends so I went with chicken instead. It was freshly made by the steam coming out of the dumplings and the crispiness of it. The taste, however, was meh - nothing special, nothing stood out to me. Don't let the exterior of the restaurant fools you - it may be easy to glaze over this restaurant if you're walking past, but it's definitely worth a try especially if you like hand shaved noodles and REAL SPICY food! Its easy and quick to seat and their service is fast too. Between the two of us, we got the spicy lamb hand shaved noodles - their noodles had a good chew and you can tell it's not packed shaved noodles, they shave it themselves! Highly recommend this dish! We also got their spicy A-Choy. Day trip to Vancouver and my friend wanted to checked this place out after he saw it on a show. The ratings online weren't great but since Guy Fieri went, we decided to go check it out and form our own opinion. We got 4 different dishes at Peaceful Restaurant and only was impressed by one dish - the Peaceful Beef Rolls. Do not get the Xiao-Long Bao Steamed Buns. It was so disappointing. It didn't have any structure and as soon as you picked it up with chopsticks, the little buns broke. The flavor was bland and not even the ginger vinegar soy sauce could save it. The Seafood Soup Noodles was good, but not great. If you're a noodle person, I'd try it out because the noodle seemed homemade and had a nice texture to it. It came with a variety of greens, prawns and squid. The broth was clean and was a nice palette cleanser of the other heavy dishes. I personally really liked the Pan-Fried Pork Buns. It was so crispy at the bottom and had a nice sesame flavor. I wish we would have gotten 2 orders of this rather than the steamed buns. This was my first time trying anything like this - the Peaceful Beef rolls. The only reason why my friend wanted to check this place out and it did not disappoint. I don't have anything else to compare it to but according to this foodie friend of mine, he said this was the best one he's ever had. Food is not bad. It is on the pricier side for Chinese Shanghainese Dim Sum. But I guess they factored in the location and the advertisement from Guy, they can charge more. But their food is not bad. If I had to compare to their Broadway location (which is the location that Guy visited), the Broadway location definitely taste better. Portion is ok size. Not like big or anything. However like I said I do like their food. We did find it ironic why they gave us the same vinegar and told us its for this and then bought it again and said its for that and told us its different. When its almost all the same except the one for the xiao long bao has ginger in it, the one one for the pork bun has black pepper in it and the one for the gyoza is plain vinegar. We were a bit scratching our heads. The skin on the xiao long bao is not like super thin like how some restaurants in Richmond makes it. The Gyoza are a bit burnt but overall it still taste really good. The bottom is crunchy. Which is quite yummy. We ordered a stir fried noodle and we get to pick the kind of noodles that we want, we got the knife chopped noodles (which we were not exactly sure how it would turn out). So they have options on the noodles but we didn't like the knife chopped noodles. We actually prefer thin noodles. Overall that was quite tastily because the soy sauce is very dense and the noodle absorbed the flavor. We also got a beef soup noodle. I like how the beef is nice and tender. I only had a bit to try because my dad ate the whole thing. He loved it. On top of that we got the wonton in soup. The soup was yummy as if it was like miso soup (that is how my sister described it). Very flavorful soup. It is the same soup as the beef noodle. The pork bun was one of my favorite dish because the botton was crunchy and some how I really like starch. Ok! well anything bread or bun, I liked. Decor is not bad. Its nice and clean. You can see inside the kitchen from the kitchen window. So you know its clean. Its interesting how its a trend these days to have Asian restaurants to have that design. Looks like they've opened up a place in this part of town. Even though the sandwich board advertises Guy Fieri (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives) as being here, technically he was at their original Broadway and Cambie location. Parking is available on the side streets. The interior looked pretty new and clean. Looking at the other reviews, the place must've opened up recently. Seating was comfortable. Staff were friendly. Our food took a while (some 30 minutes) to show up though. When ordering food, they asked how spicy we wanted. Good to know that it's adjustable. Cilantro lamb - beautiful. Spicy but not coated in peppers like some other places. Tender chunks of meat. Special mention. Beef roll - comes in 4 chunks. Not too greasy, which is nice. Sauce is inside, but a bit more would've been nice. Seafood stir-fry - served with large red chili chunks. Not sure if they were meant to be eaten, but they were a bit too big. My friends and I picked them out. Prawns were decent but not super fresh. Again, nice light kick. Stir-fried beef noodles - nice mix, though it is admitted similar to what one would get at a food court. The type of noodle (several styles) can be chosen. No need to get too worked up on choosing though, as it's all the same dough, but in different form. Food is not the cheapest here, but it's of decent quality. Definitely a place where one can bring one's parents. While the experience was nice, it just felt more sterile than the original location. Classier but with less soul. The worst service one could expect. Turned up at 8 PM for Dinner, was told you had to be out of the restaurant by 9 Pm. All dishes served on paper or plastic and customer service below average by the girl at the counter. Food was average but they seem to be taking COVID at another level. You overlook the cheap decor and hit or miss service and go here for phenomenal, authentic Chinese food. Regardless, our servers were friendly and attentive. I'm no expert on Chinese food, but my friends from China and Taiwan are and they love the food here. I'm on the same page- it's the best Chinese food I've ever had in the Americas. We ordered a ton of food- vegan dishes, cumin lamb with hand-cut noodles, beef roll sandwiches, long bao, green onion beef, etc. etc. Everything was amazing. Just came for some dumplings. The soup dumplings are really good. A great flavor, the "soup" is yummy and nice. Also tried the "spicy and sour" dumplings. These were pretty interesting and a bit different than things I've had before, so I love that. Pork dumplings with serviced in a hot vat of dilute vinegar and chili oil. The "sour" and "spicy" part. Tons of toasted sesame seeds are floating on this as well. Make for an interesting and different flavor combination. Worth trying if you need something new and different. read more

There isn't anything peaceful about a restaurant that serves up food made with what seems like the equivalent of pepper spray. Had a hard time figuring out which region the food's from. There are a lot of northern dishes, and even ones I don't normally see in Chinese restaurants (ie. Lamb with cumin) - but Xiao Long Bao... isn't that Shanghainese? And sure, it's more NORTH of Guangzhou, but I wouldn't deem it "northern food". We ordered the sheared Dan Dan Noodles, Lamb with Cumin, Beef Rolls. Went with the sheared noodles - noodles made by hand and cut to look as if your 3-year old got herself a pair of toy scissors and cut up all your clothes with the raggedy edges - as they are something I rarely see. But disappointed by the texture - doughy and not as "Q" - tight and el dente as I'm used to. The peanut sauce was spicy and overall the dish was quite yummy. But not everyone in our group could stand the spiciness. Lamb with Cumin - this was something I'd wanted my friends to try, as Chinese food is rarely made with spices like cumin, unless it's from the Xinjiang province where it's cold, there's a lot of lamb and yogurty things. Again the dish was very good, but not as flavorful as I've had previously, though the meat of the lamb was tender. That was spicy, too. The beef rolls were the best. Tender beef rolled with a hoisin type sauce and surprisingly deep fried. Some pretty good food, but I can't vouch for its authenticity. But as far as good food goes, Peaceful is not bad. In case this review isn't lending the restaurant any legitimacy, that Food Network guy also ate here - not the portly one who eats bugs, the other one with spiky blonde hair. It was not too crowded when we were here, and so managed to keep our reservations despite being late (due to snow and traffic conditions). We were seated fairly quickly and the service was decent. They came round often to refill our tea. The food came much later, probably because they had a lot of take-out/delivery order to fill. I had the beef roll which was a signature. The hoisin sauce and green onions/leeks in it reminded me of a peking duck wrap. It was a bit too greasy for my liking though. I also tried the chicken noodle (we changed to rice vermicelli) soup which was very light tasting but equally good. My friends who are gluten intolerant love this place as they can replace the regular noodles with rice vermicelli, and so have more options available. Good place for those who are gluten intolerant. I love peaceful on Broadway and this one isn't too much different other than it's nowhere near as busy. It's situated at the end of the shopping district area of West 4th with lots of free side-street parking around the area and on nicer days it's just a great place to grab lunch while walking around the area or having a beach day. The staff came off as friendly and the food was very quick. Per usual the Dan Dan noodles and beef rolls are what we enjoy at peaceful and they were almost exactly the same as the Broadway location other than the beef rolls had a slightly different taste but other than that both were enjoyable. I met up with my friend / accountant to go over my taxes before she filed them. We ordered a number of items once we flagged down a waitress....my friend is asian and she did the ordering in Mandarin and to this point everything was fine. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy and there were 3 waitresses on hand. We started receiving our food 1 item at a time and spaced out 7 - 10 minutes apart. After our receiving our 2nd dish we inquired about an item (which is normally an appetizer item) and the waitress said "it's coming"...our 3rd menu item arrived 7-10 minutes later and again we inquired about the appetizer. She informed us "items coming" as well. After our final main dish arrived, we again asked where the appetizer dish was. Again they said "it's coming" We finished our meal without ever receiving the appetizer dish that we ordered and we again asked where it was. They now said "they are just making it". We told them not to bother as you obviously forgot and we want to cancel it. 2 minutes later, a waitress shows up with our appetizer dish, leaves it on our table and walks off. We flag her down and say "we already cancelled this because it took too long to make". She looks at us and asks "what do you want to do? We asked for our bill. She drops off our bill and walks off again. I asked my friend to make sure that item isn't on the bill. Sure enough, it's still on there. We flag her down again and tell her we cancelled this item. Instead of apologizing for the delay or offering to take it off the bill or even giving us the missed dish as compensation. She walks off with it. It amazes me how nonchalant or don't care about the service you provide especially if you work in the service industry. The food is decent but the service isn't worth coming back for. Used to be one of our favourites. We've been going here over 7 years and were always really happy with our meals and service. But the last handful of times it's been really inconsistent. Sometimes great, other times disappointing. Noodles over cooked, sauces oily, spice levels all over the place. Some dishes lacking flavour. So.... I'm a huge fan of the Food Network TV show Triple-D, (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives), granted I haven't been able to get to all of the places Guy Fieri visits in my local area. As luck would have it during our last trip to Vancouver I just happened to see a sign out front with Guy's face on it. I recalled the show he did on this place and just squealed and knew we had to stop. This place is AMAZING!!! Well minus 1 Yelp star for the crappy parking in the general area. And the weird signage of not accepting credit cards, but once they realized we were tourist they said no problem?!?! Whatever....5 stars for the food! We opted for several dishes, I have stopped eating beef and one of the main items Guy tried during his visit was the Peaceful Beef roll, we opted for the Peaceful potato roll instead. The potato was a tad under cooked which made for a crunchy texture in the dish, flavor wise had it not been for the sauce it was just interesting, nothing like Guy's experience with the beef version. Oh well. We also started with the pork pot stickers, now that was a show stopper, and were some of the best I've had in a very long time. Juicy and plump full of pork, to quote Rachel Ray, YUMMERS!!! Our main dishes were Sichuan string beans, Spicy pork with garlic stems, General Tsao's Chicken, Seafood soup noodle with homemade thick noodles, and a beef dish which the name escapes me since I didn't try it. Each dish had unique flavors, were very fresh and tasted delightful, it was so good we didn't have any leftovers to speak of....burrrrp....oh man, I'm craving this place again!! I love the food at Peaceful and have never been disappointed. The reason why I'm only giving them 3 stars is because of the bizarrely speedy service we experienced on Saturday at the West 4th Avenue for lunch. The hostess/server seemed like she was operating on a different speed than the rest of the world. We had barely walked through the door before she grabbed menus and was halfway across the restaurant ready to seat us. We had barely sat down when tea was served. We chuckled when the hostess/server said "you're welcome" and dashed off, before we finished uttering "Thank-you". When it came time to order, she wrote down the items so quickly and rushed off to the kitchen without even asking us what kind of noodle we wanted for one of our dishes. Unfortunately, we realized this too late, which was disappointing as Peaceful is known for their many varieties of handmade noodles, and we would've chosen a different type than the plain ones we were given. We were so taken aback by the abruptness that we totally forgot, but it's the server's job to ask. All in all, it wasn't a terrible experience, but there's something to be said about providing prompt but PLEASANT service. There is such a thing as service that's 'TOO FAST' to the point where it's off-putting. If it was a full restaurant with a line up outside, we could understood the break-neck speed, but there were only 2-3 other tables that were occupied. I've dined at enough casual Asian restaurants to know that culturally, the serving style tends to be a little abrupt and less than warm but this bullet-speed, robotic style was comical!!! Nonetheless we still enjoyed our meal and would go back. A word of advice to the speedy hostess/server: Hey lady, you need to chill. No matter how quickly YOU want to get your job done so you can check off the tasks on your 'to do list', don't forget WHY you're there -- to make the customers' dining experience as pleasant as possible. Was driving along 4th, in a rush (as usual), trying to figure out the most efficient way to complete my growing list of errands, one of which was to pick up some spicy Chinese food for the bf, when as if by destiny the sign for Peaceful Restaurant enters my vision. I had eaten at another location of this chain once ages ago, when it was new to Vancouver, and remembered finding the food discomfortingly salty. But maybe that was a fluke! Maybe the proliferation of Peaceful Restaurants around the city was evidence that the recipes had since been tweaked to perfection. Maybe I was meant to pull over right now and order delicious Chinese food from this Peaceful Restaurant, conveniently located equidistant from the next destination to which I needed to arrive in the next 15 minutes and the next after that to which I needed to arrive within the next 45 minutes bearing delicious Ma Po Tofu, Saliva Chicken, and Hot & Sour Soup. And so I listened to what was surely the universe's way of telling me that Peaceful Restaurant was just the solution I needed. Upon entering the restaurant, I was acknowledged quickly, and with the exception of Saliva Chicken, which wasn't available, managed to place and pay for my order as planned. Decisively added a rice, Tiger Vegetables, and a Garlic Pork for good order, figuring among four dishes and the rice, some delicious dinner would be a likely possibility. But that wasn't the case. The food was salty and, while large in portion size, was not satisfying. In fact, the hot & sour soup was undrinkable (inedible?). Ma Po Tofu was bland. Most of the rest just a bunch of mediocre. Tiger Veggies were the tastiest of the bunch, with a nice spiciness (although also on the very salty side). Look closely at the photos of food from this restaurant on Yelp - the actual food tastes just like the photos look. Take from that what you will. Service was fine. This is definitely a zero-stats review. This location (Kits) was closed by Health Canada, you do the math. My experience at Peaceful on 4th was just terrible. A friend and I, who are both Asian food aficionados, ordered wide noodles in peanut sauce, string beans and a large hot & sour soup. All 3 dishes were as "white-washed" as they come. The restaurant does not have any real hot sauce (really?!?) and the food is overly oil-loaded. Now, to the best part - the soup tasted like boiled garbage. We sent it back, at which point the staff all tasted it (gross) and came up our table to argue with us that's it's fine. Horrible. Never going back. Right down the street there are better options for Chinese, and definitely would just take a drive to Fraser street next time we are in the mood. read more
